I took a chance tonight and after searching online for a new place to eat out, I came across Auburn Cafe in Ecorse. My wife seemed nervous as I did not let her know what I had chose, just that we had not been there before. What a hidden Gem - I would highly recommend you give this place a try. As it was Friday, we were looking for Seafood. (Bonus 1/2 off second Seafood Entre with purchase of another on Friday Evenings). I had the Salmon, My Wife enjoyed the Orange Roughy. Both were cooked to perfection, we didn't leave any to waste and the portions were generous. We also shared a Greek Salad, and Lemon Potatoes. Impressed with everything. I almost hate to make this recommendation in fear that too many people will find out about this great restaurant in the Ecorse, MI area. A++++ in my book. P.S. Our waitress Audrie exceeded our expectations with some of the best hospitality I've experienced - even brought us a surprise dessert. Thank you all again for the great dining experience. Adding on to my review... my wife & I made it back for the highly recommended Lamb Chops... If I could add on another star, I would. The service was again spot on and the food exceeded our expectations, keep up the great work - we will most certainly be back! (Bonus of Buy 1 Lamb Chop Dinner / Get Second at 1/2 price on Monday & Tuesday after 5... We had left overs which were still delicious the next day).

The Brown Sauce !! Almost every restaurant I visit has its unique dish or accoutrement that makes it memorable. On this visit to Downtown Ecorse, I stopped into a well-known local Greek Eatery, the Auburn Cafe. I was in the mood for something simple and fast since I was famished. The interior brings you back a few decades, but don't let the lack of a modern touch fool you, they make great food here. Once I was seated, my server recommended something that I haven't had in years, a traditional Greek Soup called Avgolemono, which is a Lemon Rice Soup. If you have travelled or dined on the cuisines such as Greek, Arab, Sephardic Jewish, Turkish, Balkan and Jewish-Italian then you that Avgolemono is a family of sauces and soups made with egg yolk and lemon juice mixed with broth, heated until they thicken. The Auburn does a great take on this dish. Next was an old favourite, Pork Souvlaki or Pork Kabob. The grilled, marinated and tender pork was very good. My server before my meal came out told me that I should the 'Brown Sauce'. She was right as it did add some complexity and flavour to my meal. I honestly didn't know what to expect when trying Greek Cuisine in the Detroit area, but I can say that Auburn Cafe keeps it real. if you're looking for a great greek meal and experience, give them a shot.

The Lambchops were suggested and I ordered them. The Chops were cooked perfectly and tasted awesome, but for $35, the cost of the Chops, you get nothing else with it other then a slice of onion, some cucumbers, a few tomato slices and a hunk of feta cheese and a few strips of Pita bread. No vegetable, no salad, nothing to make it an actual dinner. I wouldn't order it again, not worth the money. When I spend $35 dollars for a meal I damn well better leave stuffed.

I've been coming here for over 25 years! Excellent food and service everytime. We like to start off with some flaming cheese, a Greek salad, and pita bread followed by the chicken dinner! Make sure to ask for extra brown sauce! To cap off a perfect meal, I highly recommend the custard desserts!!!

Ordered a steak salad…17$… asked for extra steak. They added a $14 charge for that and only gave me a half portion extra. Talk about a rip off. This place is over priced and the food is no where near worth what they’re charging. Everyone in there has an attitude problem to boot, save your hard earned money, go elsewhere

Don’t be like me and take years to give this place a try because it’s incredible. Some of the best Tatziki (get some on the side for the lemon potatoes)i I’ve ever had and the spicy feta dip is amazing too. Not only was the food amazing but the service was stunning. Make sure you ask for Shelia if you go.

I can't love this place any more than I already do. Excellent staff, service, owners, and most importantly the food! Great hidden gem in metro Detroit. Highly recommend.

We came in while they were serving a very large party on top of the regular busy Saturday rush and they did a great job of communicating the wait, then finding us a table. The food was delicious as always and the service was fast and friendly.

First of all, the service was excellent! Had the shrimp pita combo. Sandwich was delicious! But, the lemon potatoes I've heard people rave about were nothing but skin-on sliced potatoes that had been fried, maybe baked, with lemon juice sprinkled on them. Something that can easily be made at home. Lacked seasoning, too. Also, all sides for dinner entrees were al a carte.

Good food, incredibly overpriced. Wife and I ordered the chicken breast lunch and the Caesar salad (also with chicken). I was shocked when the total came to $31, and even more flabbergasted when I saw just exactly what that $31 bought me. The chicken breast lunch is exactly one chicken breast, one pita bread, not even a full tomato and about 40% of a cucumber diced. No sides. The salad was just that - another breast, greens, dressing. So that’s $31 for two slices of chicken breast, two small pieces of bread, and some salad greens. I would highly recommend spending the money on other local restaurants downriver that offer better value for the price.

Delightful stop for an early dinner. Great menu with emphasis on Greek fare. Excellent staff and pleasant environment. Entries were generous portions, fresh & hot. Prices are very reasonable. A must stop for those downriver looking to experience long standing restaurant that gets better every time I visit. Flaming cheese & pita bread are perfect starters... lemon rice soup, superb..... stop in

They still got it. I was born and raised in the area, always been a fan. but since college have lived a life elsewhere.. been about 10 years since my last visit. Recently brought a group of clients there due to business in the area, and it was well received! Juicy chicken, fresh vegetables in the salads, I was very happy i suggested the Auburn and my group was happy. ONLY complaint is the gyro meat slices are like burnt cardboard. Other than that, I am happy you guys are still making great food!

I've never had a bad meal here. And despite of this place selling high-end Greek food in a place like Ecorse, they do a h*ll of a business. Another attribute to The Auburn is the ambience. It's such a nice setting when dining in this place. It kind of reminds me of walking into a place in Greektown. As far as the food, it's all pretty good, like I said. Even the gyro is one of a kind and that's a type of food that sort of always tastes the same everywhere. Overall this place gets a thumbs up from me. 👍

We recently celebrated my mother's 60th birthday at Auburn Cafe, and I cannot express enough how fantastic our experience was. From the moment we contacted them for a party of 35, the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. The level of customer service we received was unparalleled, making it the best dining experience we've had in a long time. As a large family, dining out can be challenging, but Auburn Cafe made us feel not only welcome but also completely at ease. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, from the reservation process to the actual celebration. The ambiance was perfect, the service impeccable, and the food absolutely delicious. We truly had a wonderful evening, and our family is grateful for the exceptional hospitality provided by Auburn Cafe. If you're looking for a place with not just great food but also exceptional service, Auburn Cafe is the perfect choice. Thank you so very much for making my mother's birthday celebration so special!

Stopped in tonight was seated right away. I ordered a large order of the stuffed Grape Leaves. They were served with a wonderful lemon sauce and a side basket of fresh bread. My dinner was delicious and I saved some for the next day because they get better the second day after sitting in the sauce. Very high quality and a good value. I will definitely be coming back to try other menu items

Has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the world. They just do everything right. I've been to 5 star restaurants all over the world including Detroits Joe Muers and when it comes to great food, the Auburn Cafe is second to none. If you like salmon, try the Greek salad with salmon. You will never get a better piece of salmon. Just amazing.

Waiter was very nice young man, on top of it. Waitress was very good but she rushed what you were trying to say and cutting you offering to guess what your were going to saying. (A bit annoying) But she was attentive and on top of it. We dined in and got carry out. Potatoes ships kabob were good as well

I been going to Auburn when Sam was alive. First time we ever got bad service. Been going there over 40 years or more. My husband went in there when it was coffee shop. My family from Rouge and my husband Leo Natt from Ecorse. Then we got married and we live in Ecorse. We still be going but not the lady we had tonight. With tip and all 80.00. We tip good for good service but not tonight just what we have too. They wasn’t that busy. Unhappy very. Karen (Dupuie) Natt

We have gone here for over 30 years. It has always been the same, great food, friendly service and lots of murals of Greece painted upon the walls. Just go, because if you don't you are missing one of the greatest meals you will ever have.

Been dining here for many years. I always order the lamb chop dinner. It’s worth every penny of the $35.00 cost. Glad it’s not located in the Wyandotte/Southgate Area. It would be crowded, and hard to get a table. No complaints only compliments.

This was my first time at this establishment and I did not know which door to enter until I saw someone come and opened the door. I walked in to place an order and did not really know where to place it. This guy was ahead of me for a pick up order so I stood in that area which was at the end of the bar. Then they served someone else, who came in after me, before assisting me. Besides all that, I ordered two Greek chicken salads and it was good. I just wish they have me more flat bread.

Everything was great except for the fact that I couldn't have any french fries not rice. My chicken kebab was very tasty. The service was outstanding.

Okay, very unassuming place. In a very unassuming location, but once inside you are greeted by a very friendly host and sat according to your needs. Yeah a little older inside than some people may like, but once you are greeted by the waitstaff and shown great customer service you know you are in for a treat. The food was fantastic. Me and my wife got the couples dinner, and they accommodated us because we do not drink with a substitution of another appetizer. So I got the lamb chops and she got the salmon. Salads(greek), soups(lemon rice), garlic sauce and the saganaki was excellent. The Greek dressing had to be home made and the feta cheese was fresh and not overwhelming. Potatoes was good also. Please come and see for yourself, I do not think you will be disappointed.

For YEARS I had heard how delicious and amazing the Greek chicken salad was here. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing! First of all, one of the most expensive salads I've had. I ordered two large salads, the total came to $40! Second, it didn't have much flavor. We won't be going back.

I'm all about the Customer Service Experience and I promise you Josie nor Audrey will disappoint, they are incredible. I enjoy coming to the establishment with my husband or mother and it never disappoints. Thanks for cooking when I want to relax at the end of my day.

We went there a little while ago and the service was not what I have had previously. We all felt rushed by our waitress even though we didn’t dine in at an abnormal time, and it wasn’t a packed restaurant that night, but the waitress made us feel like we were trying to get rushed out. We had some of their hot feta to take home and we had a steak dinner which we wanted to box, it was eaten entirely but we have a German Sheppard at home who loves the steak bones, but she ran by and took both without saying a word to us. The next thing we saw she had grabbed her own box and boxed up our steak bone that she picked out of the plates bin! The young man was kind enough to give us a take home container full of the hot feta which we appreciated but we knew there was nothing he could do about anything else. Then at the end she stopped by for longer than earlier in the light and asked if everything was good, which maybe we shouldn’t have just said everything was good, because then she pointed out the owner for us to say a good word for her I assume. The food was good, the new steak was really good truth be told, but we definitely did not enjoy the service feel when we’ve come to experience much better service in years back

It has been a long time since I been here, And boy has it gone downhill over the years next time I will just go on downtown to Greek town. The gyro meat is like lunch meat. They're lemon potatoes are like fresh Cut potato chips nothing like the traditional lemon potato. all we had to eat was 2 gyros a Saganaki And 2 glasses of ice water. And that cost us $40... Please don't spend your money here just a waste of money.

  • 3/5 CJWADE 1 year ago on Google
Ordered a lamb gyro, just the sandwich. Asked for everything thing on it. No lettuce, no sauce.. it tasted good and was ready fast but not worth $11.34.

  • 2/5 Craig M. 2 years ago on Google
The only reason they got 2 two stars is because the waitress was so nice...I asked for a traditional Greek gyro w/potatoes my guest asked for a cornbeef gyro...the waitress came back and her told they no longer have cornbeef. She asked for a steak gyro w/Swiss instead...when the food came she had a chunk-o-meat on a pita swimming in juice from the steak? meat. I got lunch meat lamb? on a pita with room temp potatoes...I've had a better Greek meal from Arbys

Wow! You don’t have to go downtown to get great Greek food. I really liked the eggplant appetizer, lemon potatoes and grape leaves. It gets really busy here at lunchtime so come when it opens if you can or a little bit after noon. I couldn’t get a parking spot and had to park on the street. It wasn’t a big problem but if you can avoid it, I’d recommend it.

First note: to find the door of this place, it’s the door closest to the parking lot on the south side. Food was really flavorful and so good! Waitress was sweet and this place is worth coming back.

Did a Google search and found this place for lunch. You wouldn't know it from the outside, but the inside is cozy and elegant. The staff is friendly and attentive. I had the fried eggplant and a vegetarian sandwich combo, both of which were absolutely delicious. The prices are reasonable and they have a full bar. Very happy to have tried Auburn Cafe.

This place have the best Greek food!! In small community right out side of southwest Detroit. There famous salad dressing is the bomb. Tzatziki sauce super good. I mix with my Greek salad. Everything is good here. It's pricey but worth every bite. Check them out
