Best darn Thanksgiving Day gift was for those employees to be open after the parade. Loved the muffins. The decor reminded me a lot of Roos Roast in Ann Arbor.

Keep in mind that this Avalon Bakery on Canfield has a smaller menu compared to the Downtown Detroit location. So there are not as many options. But the overall vibe and atmosphere is very nice and having outside seating options is very nice. The food is also really good. My friend and I got the Fried egg, bacon, and avocado sandwich($14.50) and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. For Wayne State Students, on Wednesdays it’s 20% off.

Great quality and nice staff!! Always a good time. Carrot cake is legendary. (if you guys made a vegan version of the salted chocolate chip cookies I would literally love you forever)

Coffee here is decent and consistent and staff is always very friendly. The $10 breakfast sandwich is absolutely ridiculous. To spend that much on a tiny little sandwich with only two strips of bacon just wasnt worth it. Nothing special about the sandwich, it was just a standard (small bacon egg n cheese). They’re also charging $15 for the same exact sandwich but a slice of avocado added. Who is paying these prices??

The coffee is good, the bakery is great! Free parking and seating out front. The ladies working behind the counter are the most pleasant people you will meet. Highly recommend this place!

The combination of Avalon Bakery seems off until you walk in the door. Then it makes a ton of sense. Avalon still has their great baked goods and coffee, but the seating is much more abundant, including some outdoor tables and chairs.

Absolutely love the original Avalon Bakery. It is everything I could ask for in a local patisserie and more. Pastries are always fresh, high quality, and absolutely delicious. Espresso bar is a huge plus, and I adore the additional pantry and kitchen items they sell. Bonus points for the lovely chalkboard menu art and seasonal decor within the bake shop. They’re really great with catering orders, and it’s a perfect destination for tourists and out-of-town friends. Never change, Avalon!

The workers are impatient and the breakfast sandwiches have no flavor but an unnecessary sweetness to them. And $10 for a tiny sandwich? This place done lost its mind 😩 The location downtown is soooo much better than the one in midtown.. i wish The foods were the same

Been coming here for almost 10 years and I'm never ever disappointed. Brought my little sister with me today and got this beautiful and delicious avocado toast to go. Their tea and coffee is also amazing! Very respectful and reputable place to visit.

This review concerns the bread only. The service has been terrific. I came to Avalon, which specializes in making bread, to purchase a loaf of bread. It really wasn’t all that. I mean, it tasted like pre-packaged, shelf stable grocery store bread. It was not at all what I thought Avalon would be, given it’s marketing and presence in the city. I will either have to go to Whole Foods or mosey over somewhere out of town for good bread. Still missing Ochre.

I ordered a speciality latte in the morning. They normally use regular milk, but because it hadn’t been made yet, the barista made it with oat milk for me. I super appreciated that! The latte was delicious. I look forward to trying some of the food items next!

Pretty good bakery, a tad overpriced. When ordering food, you get a number to carry to your seat and the meal is delivered straight to you. Breakfast sandwich had floppy bacon, not preferable, but alright. Shares its space with the Jolly Pumpkin, so there is more than enough seating for couples and groups. Enjoyed the playlist quite a bit while dining in.

I went to the new Avalon bakery today (Monday, May 22) that's now inside the jolly pumpkin restaurant. I always enjoyed their breads when they were on Willy's and I wanted to support the new business location. I returned home to make lunch and the first bite I could tell right away this was old bread. Upon, checking the package, the stickerd date was "05 16 23", six days old! It's a shame because the old bakery was really awesome and now they resorted to selling week old bread. I will not return and spend my money at this bakery again. I highly recommend going to Whole Foods, the bread is made daily and you know what you're buying when you go there. You never have to worry about Whole Foods selling you 6 day old bread.

Quality and overall experience has gone downhill significantly since they moved to the new location inside of jolly pumpkin. Waited over 35 mins to get a toasted biscuit and chicken sausage sandwich. Both of which came out Luke warm and very dry. One silver lining is the is coffee still consistent, but beyond that just a better use of your time and money to go to an actual sit down breakfast place in the area.

We were in town for the Thanksgiving Day football game (Go Bills) and stumbled upon Avalon on Woodward. The breakfast pizza, chicken sausage egg sandwich and drinks were so good, we were still talking about the food a few hours later. Super friendly service too! Highly recommend!

Stopped in while on a tour to pickup some salted chocolate chip cookies. I also ordered a cappuccino. The coffee drink was amazing, one of the best cappuccinos I have had in a long time. If you think the big boys do it right, try Avalon and you will become a believer. And don't forget the cookies, it's a treat you will talk about for a long time.

Great bakery & good taste in the mid town Detroit. We had a lemon blueberry scone, an everything croissant, a cinnamon croissant, a latte & a chia. However the store need a Apple Pay type machine!

Avalon has delicious pastries (chocolate croissant is divine), good coffee and savory treats (get the avocado toast!) for breakfast. Also enjoyed their simple but well-made Turkey sandwich for lunch. The savory focaccia was big enough to share! The bread is top notch and the customer service is too! Grab a cookie on your way out - they’re the best!

Seriously one of the best bakeries in MI. Plenty of vegan options. Friendly staff. Delicious food! I recommend a lavander latte with a blueberry muffin, my classis order.

Our go-to place for breakfast (and sometimes lunch). Everyone is so pleasant and sweet here. We always buy our bread at Avalon - Motown Multigrain and Farnsworth ftw. Unfortunately, this time, we received a bad loaf. We don’t even know how this could’ve happened? Had to throw the whole bread away which we didn’t even touch. /:

Wow - I didn't know what to expect when coming here. From the outside, it looks like an old school bakery. From the inside, it's a hip cafe/restaurant with funky decor. It was packed on a Sunday at brunch time. Unfortunately, we weren't very hungry, but we ordered some fancy lattes. I ordered one that was themed for St. Patrick's Day. It looks like a cool spot, and it's been in the neighborhood for a while. Just don't let the outside fool you.

They do have signs up about being short staffed, and the staff was nice, but discovered we got the wrong order when we got home. Sticky bun was so burnt on the bottom we had to scrape around it. Will try again in better times

A nice, quaint Cafe to get a breakfast sandwich and/or pastries. I had the ALT (avocado, lettuce, tomato) sandwich with ham and it was very delicious! I also had the hot chai tea latte and it was very, very good. I definitely recommend this place.

The Willis location in midtown is a favorite morning stop for me. The coffee is always good and the quiche is to DIE for! There are clips secured to the outside of the building to clip a leash to so I don’t have to worry about my dog while I go inside to order, and to top it all off the staff is super friendly! Definitely recommend this place.

Wonderful 100% organic breads and other baked goods. They also have excellent coffee and teas. They work hard to offer foods that promote good health. I gave them four stars because the parking is terrible at both locations.

The bacon egg and cheese biscuit was excellent. Good coffee, too. Fast friendly service and a dozen outdoor tables for those who are covid averse.
