This restaurant used to be my favorite place for ramen, but we had to avoid it in the past year+ because the food just wasn't the same anymore. I saw the maps update from the owner inviting people to give Urban Ramen another try and got really excited, so we placed an order. Unfortunately, we couldn't eat, both of our broths (paitan, tonkotsu) were a dark brown color and tasted very bitter, something went very wrong in the kitchen, it was kind of bizarre. I tried calling back the restaurant to try and get a refund or have them re-make the order another time, but they turned their phone off, so here we are, stuck with two bowl of unknown brew. Giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 because I really hope it can recover and do better, as I said before, I used to love this restaurant, but something very strange is going on even after the supposed management fix.

Urban Ramen used to be my favorite Ramen place and I would even wait 45 mins outdoor in the freezing weather for the best ramen in town before covid hit. However, my last visit during the weekend was disappointing ..... tonkatsu ramen came with oily broth and 3 pieces of think cut bacon ( it literally feels like I was chewing rubber); the Japanese fried chicken was bad as well (it used to be really authentic with small chunks, but now it’s the size of Chicken tenders). Idk if they had an ownership change or what so ever.. I will never go back

The place is nice but the broth is too rich and salty. Ramen cooked right too but the broth is just kind of too salty and oily for me. Fried chicken is like regular fried chicken, not authentic

Awesome experience of food and service. Right when you walk in (if it isn’t busy), you place your order before you’re seated and food is at your table in under 10 minutes. Super tasty broth and crispy fried chicken. Their noodles are homemade and thinner than your traditional ramen, but still awesome. There’s parking out front, but if it’s not busy you only need the hour because you’re in and out in less than 25 mins.

I've had the privilege to eat at both locations in LA and Detroit. They are very different experiences but there are three things that are the same between the two: 1) The staff greets you the same, friendly way. 2) The food is excellent. 3) They have the same name. The pork ramen with medium favor was my choice. The broth is very flavorful, porky, and rich. The pork belly was tender and almost melted in my mouth. The molten ego was proper and not hard boiled. And the noodles had a great taste and texture. Be prepared for a wait. There are only 20-22 seats. The server will also take your order before you are seated. I'll be back for sure!

I hate to write bad reviews, especially on a fellow Japanese folks, but....This restaurant is skidding downhill...fast! The place had "Closed" sign on the door, so I had to call to make sure they were open. When I walked in, I was not greeted at the door, nor anywhere in this small restaurant (I remember when they used to greet customers in Japanese). The recent price increase was NOT reflected on the menu, so I got an unpleasant surprise when I got the bill. The DEFAULT ramen noodles are now $14 + tax. The soup had no taste (just a whole a lot of fat), and was not hot. The noodles were overcooked (I know what I'm talking about, because I am from Japan, and I work at a Japanese restaurant). The seat we sat at was by the bathroom, so every time someone goes in/out, you can smell the nice aroma. Great!! To top things off, they did not have rice (what?!) so we could not order any small dishes they had on the menu. All that was happening during the dinner time on Saturday. No wonder there was no line... The only reason I gave two stars is because the noodles came out quickly . Somebody needs to address these issues ASAP, or this place will not survive for much longer.

We ordered two Chicken Paitan Ramen for pickup from here a week ago. Food was fast, but not as hot as we’d expect since we were only a couple of blocks away. We had to reheat our broth. The ramen was good, one of the better ramens I’ve had. The broth was slightly on the saltier side, but outside of that, it was delectable. We got it spicy, but learned to make sure we stir well before pouring or all the spice falls to the bottom of the broth.

This place is DEFINITELY my new go-to spot for ramen. The broth was very flavorful, the pork belly and chicken were moist and delicious. Urban Ramen takes pride in their dishes and it clearly shows with the ingredients they use. Once seated, food was received quickly. Staff is very accommodating. I cannot wait for them to continue to expand.

We are a big family of 5 ramen heads and unanimously love this place. I'll keep this review short and sweet: PROS - Friendly staff. They really help us feel like home. - Best ramen in the Detroit metro area, hands down. I've visited many different ramen places around and left disappointed, never to return. - It is great that you can select your broth thickness and the spice on the side. - The noodles made in house DO make a noticeable difference. Trust me on this one. CONS - Very long wait... when hungry... not a good idea. Go ahead and expand to the place next door guys, you'll be full all day long anyway! - Marinated egg sometimes is on point, sometimes overcooked. - It'd be beneficial to ensure the temperature of the pork and egg are even with the broth before serving. Maybe it's a small detail but I've noticed they're slightly colder than the rest of the dish.

Very straight forward, simple menu. I loved it! Got my tonkotsu ramen with medium broth (richness). Tasted great! Very good, professional service. They don't have a lot of seats available so if you come in a big group be prepare to wait.

Trolley stops right at this location. Finding parking can be hard. Allow 20-30 means at least before being seated (no sms so you need to stick around or walk nearby). It is a very small restaurant (used to be Falafill) with a capacity of around 20 seats. They try to be as efficient as possible so they take the order at the door when your turn is up and before you are seated. There is a quick turnover of tables. The food quality Is outstanding and the prices are moderates. You have options of traditional Japanese fare like edamame and sushi. The menu has both noodles with broth and pork belly or chicken. There are also rice bowls. The staff is very friendly and hard working. I will be going back.

The place is small but tall 🤣 at the moment I went there was only there items on the menu available to order. I'm super glad what I wanted was one of them. I got the tonkatsu ramen I got it extra thick and spicy. It is home made noodles also! It was super rich and delicious 🤤 the staff was friendly. I would come back and I recommend coming here

For 14.5 a bowl of ramen, you would not expect tables with food scraps, broth with minimal/none flavor, and noodles to be still stuck together in a block and barely two mouthful of chicken. Staff was friendly but it was def not worth the price.

Place is small but vibe is nice. Not a problem but the food… broth had no flavor whatsoever. Asked for it to be spicy but was nowhere near spicy asked for extra spice 3 times just for it give it a little flavor rather than the spice. Did not seem authentic at all. Chicken was very overcooked very dry also considering it being chicken thigh and it was in broken small chunks rather in the menu and photos at the place, it shows it to be slices. House salad was just 3/4th just old cabbage with a little bit of corn and the house sauce tasted old and wrong. The only thing i did enjoy was the japanese friend chicken. Overall experience was disappointing. Wouldn’t go there. If you want actually amazing ramen i would save time and go to City Ramen in Royal Oak or eda ramen

Not what we expected and way overpriced for what you get. We have eaten at many East Asian restaurants and the food here was the worst we've had. The pork pieces were tender, but no marinated flavor. There was not enough meat for the price and they were burnt; my mother had the same dish, but her pork was completely different (a different cut of meat, which we thought was strange). All broth thicknesses were the same and were EXTREMELY greasy; the liquid sits in the throat and stomach. It tastes like the water from boiled chicken and we had to add our own flavorings at home, but to no avail; we couldn't finish the dish. The noodles were stuck in a clump and broke into short pieces when I tried to mix it. We also ordered a mini salad; it was overpriced as well and I figured out what was in it just by looking. I could tell it was from a can with a basic mayo sauce; I could make it at home for free. For that quality, it should have been $2 or less, not $4. Overall we were highly disappointed, couldn't finish the broth, and do not recommend this restaurant. It's a shame; we drove 45 minutes because it looked popular :(

A reliable spot for a hot bowl of ramen, rich in umami. Can’t go wrong with either the chicken paitan or tonkotsu ramen. Small dining room means there might be a wait, but worth it on a chilly Detroit evening. Free street parking on E Willis.

Super cozy Ramen place downtown. They only have 3 options (chicken, pork, and vegan) so don't expect a huge menu. We got 1 chicken and 1 vegan, and they were AMAZING. Best ramen ive ever had. 10/10 will be returning here. Restaurant is not super big, so seating is limited (i think there was maybe 5-6 tables total). However, this was not an issue as it seems that most of their business is to-go and not dine in. We were able to get seating immediately at 6/7pm on a friday night. Staff was super nice. I also like that they had actual music playing and not the boring elevator music played in most restaurants.

Haven’t been here since 2020 and I Walked in as the opened for the afternoon. Liana, Salia, and Chris were super friendly, fast and hooked my food up. I tried something new on the menu, and loved it. Even if they are short staffed they still bring that amazing quality

I tried the most popular ramen. The chicken one with pork and chicken breast at the side. ¿? The picture of the menu was not like the one received. There were missing ingredients and when I claimed, the waiters said they were run out of. Sorry. But never explained that. Not coming back. Service was bad. The ramen was not wow. There are better ramen experience in the area.

First time visitor. The food was great. Highly recommend. I'm definitely stopping by again. It was easy to order since there is a photo board close by and the staff was friendly. I explained that I was a first time visitor and he walked me through everything and even provided recommendations. If you're concerned about indoor dining then request carry out, the indoors is pretty small. Also be prepared to pay for street parking, $1.00 is an hour of parking, not bad.
