This is the kind of place every town should have. We travel a lot, and we like to go where the locals go. Chain restaurants don't interest us. Russell Street Deli is a true gem; an institution. Everyone is welcomed and there are no reservations. In fact, all tables are communal, so take the inside seats and you'll be joined by the next party. People talk to each other, and with others. The food is all done in house, and is to a high standard. The soups are legendary, and available in Whole Foods. The model is farm to table, and it works. Unfortunately a new building owner is forcing out established businesses with egregious lease increases or other predatory demands. The deli will be closing in late September. Take advantage while you can.

Russell's street deli. Reuben sandwich yummy, is what you expect. The steak and egg scrambler nice idea. The taste of Detroit style New England clam chowder, I didnt not like, it was heavy on Fresh Dill, spicy finish and a feel of home made soup. I'll need to go back and sample the New York style again. Only slight criticism little over priced. I will go back..

Russell Street Deli is a terrific deli in the heart of Detroit's Eastern Market, the biggest and best farmers market in the region. Their soups, salads, sandwiches, omelettes and scramblers are made with the freshest ingredients and meats. Everything I've ever had here (and I've had a lot) has been wonderful. There's another reason I enjoy eating here. That's because of the owner's employment practices. All employees are paid a living wage, earn sick and vacation time and go out of their way to treat customers nicely. I love Russell Street Deli and I think you will too.

Excellent location! I never been there before but got to photograph their food for Hour Detroit Magazine and it was fantastic! Their food is delicious and the friendly staff will make anybody feel welcomed.

The quality here is always spot on. All fresh, local ingredients. Amazing soups. My favorite is their reuben sandwich, with soft, fresh corned beef and grilled buttery rye bread. Great variety of specials each day. On market days (Saturdays) expect a wait, but it's worth it! You'll also share a table if you have less than 6 people, which is a great way to meet new people.

Great vegan menu. Also very good non-vegan sandwiches. Soup was excellent.

Had the red beans and rice and Tuna Melt for lunch. They have some of the best soup around. Homemade from scratch. Real Deli style sandwiches. And this place is in what I think is 1 of the coolest parts of town, Eastern Market!

It's a cozy place, I always have the veg avocado melt and it's the best sandwich ever! During summer they have an amazing mint tea and all their soups are really good. They have a huge variety or daily special soups! The service is very nice.
