Brought my daughter for lunch. We had lunch specials. She had burritos and I had flautas. Food came out fast, my daughter ate all her burritos so I assumed she liked them. My flautas we're mediocre at best. But what really threw me off was the rice. It was hard and undercooked. The waitress was really nice and I told her I'm not trying to be a bother but the rice was undercooked. She offered to bring me another side of rice, I said I was fine with that if it's cooked. But unfortunately she brought me the same rice. I even told her you need to let someone know this is undercooked. I still tipped her 20 percent because she was a good waitress and none of it was her fault. I grew up in this neighborhood and even used to work at this establishment 22 years ago. Ever since covid, prices have gone up but quality has not improved, not even stayed the same. I'm positive the cooks in that kitchen, even the owners for that matter, would not eat the rice I was served. So why serve it to your customers

Best Margaritas in town! We visited for a chips and salsa date and everything tasted amazing! I’ve been visiting this restaurant since I was a kid with my parents and they have managed to keep the same great taste! We ordered the Super Burrito dinner and Meat and cheese burritos with cheese on top dinner.

We had great expectations when we went in. However the food was not as good as we had hoped for. The food was hot and fresh as well as tasty. We had sampled some street tacos and other Mexican food at nearby taco trucks that were better

Ohhhh Xochi's ..... This restaurant has always been one of " Mexican towns go to restaurants " as far back as I can remember! The food 10 years ago used to be top-notch along with the service and everything else associated with a fine dining experience... Unfortunately the last two times me and my family have gone there we have not had the best service nor the best food 😳 I'm not saying avoid this place completely, but I am hoping the next time I go there the experience will be a much more memorable and positive one ✌️

So one of the original Mexican restaurants in downtown Detroit! Several people working here have been here for years. I've noticed and a friend of mine said the person at the front that greets you has been there over 25 years or so. Now the food. It's one of my favorite Mexican restaurants I have ever been to and I've been to a lot. Everything from their chips and salsa to tacos, burritos and fajitas are spectacular. If you're reading this review, wondering if you should go here it's a definite yes.

Due to having staffing issues, there was a 30 minute wait to be seated; my group liked the food but to me it doesn't live up to the reviews on Maps. They have drinks but the bar area was deplorable; the bar was filled with all the dirty drink glasses from customers which creates flies and they were still making drinks for customers. I feel that if you don't have enough staff to properly run a restaurant, you should do carry-outs only.

I used to enjoy coming here to dine with friends and relatives alike. But times have changed. Had a bad experience recently with one of the waitresses with a ill temper and she threw plates and everything at our table. She never once apologized and had a sour look on her face. I will no longer return here any more. I'll be going to other places that have professional waiting staff and not having to deal with a long waiting period too. Too bad..this place was solely my source for Mexican food and good times, but it's history now.

Xochi’s has been my favorite restaurant in Mexicantown for as long as I can remember. Service was great on a Saturday afternoon and food always comes out fast. Had the single chimichanga meal with chicken and husband had the bean, meat & cheese burritos. Great place to eat if you’re downtown and craving Mexican food.

We came out to eat with a party of 14 on a Sunday. They do not reserve seating, but they were awesome enough to set us up in a space where we could all be together. It took about a half hour to wait for the tables to empty, but that wait was entertaining. There was a lot to do in the immediate surrounding area, such as watching a live band, looking at murals and street art, visiting the shops, and walking over the pedestrian bridge. Once we were inside we sat down and had chips and salsa waiting for us, our server was outstanding and completely on top of everything. Super grateful for Jose. Our party got a variety of different foods and drinks. I got the chicken tacos, my husband got the beef burritos, and my step-daughter got the beef quesadillas. I won't list all 14 orders . We all loved our food. The rice and beans are the show stoppers really. I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this place. It wasn't bright (I hate bright restaurants.) It was mid light which was perfect and the building was old and beautiful. The servers and kitchen staff and chefs did such an amazing job yesterday. Thanks so much for the experience.

The staff are super friendly and fast. The food was decent, good prices, but I was sad to find out it was not an authentic "Mexican" restaurant. I was hoping to eat super good after being way from a Hispanic community for a month, and I did, but they didn't have spicy salsas, no sesame seeds for the mole en pollo. Other than that a good 7/10 experience.

Cozy, inexpensive and tasty Tex-Mex food. Monica (waitress) was very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. She was patient and explained all the dishes along with Mexican history.

Seating could’ve been better but it’s Saturday night and they were busy so ok. Me and my husband went for my birthday, the not so great - the waitress barely spoke to us. Our food didn’t come out at the same time and my husbands glass of water was so hot it melted the ice. The great - I had the combo fajitas. He had the #3, both were very large portions. Their hot salsa is pretty good.

One of the best Mexican food restaurants in Detroit! Portions are big, staff is friendly and pricing is reasonable. The lighting is a little dark for my taste. Gives a very "adults only" vibe when in fact it is a family friendly restaurant. I was surprised to learn that they serve their eggs with chorizo, all day!

When I first walked in, I couldn't get over the scent of ammonia in the air. This was kinda skewing my perception of the place, but the smell faded. We were seated very fast. The server was extremely kind and professional and continued checking on us. We ordered the botana to split at the table. It was beautifully prepared but kinda difficult to eat. The tacos were crunchy and had a nice flavor profile. Overall, it was a pleasant lunch experience.

Stable in the southwest area. Some of the items are Tex-mex, but they have traditional Mexican items too. So best of both world. I also like their mural at the parking lot.

Xochimilco has been a staple in my life for many years. I have many fond memories of coming here. As far as dishes go, I recommend traditional choices, such as Menudo or Carne a La Tampiqueña. For all those predictable people out there who don’t like to deviate 😂 I still recommend either a combination, or just about anything from the middle section of the menu. Whatever your decision…..¡Buen Provecho!

The food here was really amazing. I was saddened to find there was no Carne Gisada or Barbacoa. However, the waitress recommended getting the steak fajitas. She wasn't wrong. The steak was cooked perfectly. Typically, what I get at other establishments is hard and overcooked steak, but this steak was tender, and I didn't have to sharpen my teeth to chew it. Great tasting food with a good presentation.

I heard of the place before and this was my 1st visit there. The staff was friendly and the food didn't take forever! I had a pleasant dining experience and the food was great! They gave us so much food that I was not able to eat 1/3 of the portions my carryout wS sooo full. So needless to say I have breakfast and lunch for today!

I went there today at 3:33 pm for lunch. I've eaten there a million times (I'm real old!) and it's always a great experience. A lot of people go eat there by themselves. The staff is attentive as the people at the Four Seasons Hotel (I've stayed there a lot, too). The food is stunning. The portions are crazy big and the prices are super duper cheap. This place is a Detroit gem. Watch out! Gets really busy during prime hours.

Waitress was nice. Not recommend Plates were too small the rice was falling off the sides. I added lettuce and tomatoes to my order, it was on a second plate too small to combine. The chicken enchiladas were warm, not hot. Sauce lacked spicy flavor, not tasty, cheese was melted but not hot in temp? I left most of my plate, I probably should have sent it back to the kitchen to be warmed like 2 others did at our table, They ordered the burrito luncheon plates and they said they were not hot. We believe it's Over Rated! Lunch specials seemed resonable,, however don't add on or you end up with a double priced meal! Ouch! When we left we all agreed the food was flat! We had a party of 9 and the restaurant was empty we still had to sit at 2 separate tables

Warm chips with excellent salsa. Best hard shell chicken taco I've ever had. Been over a hundred Mexican restaurants, definitely five stars

Food was decent at best. The salsa is like 2/3 water, especially for take out. The ingredients in the flaming cheese are barely chopped up. Tomatoes are cut in half and just put in. Same for the onion and that is also super runny. You can’t even scoop the salsa it just runs off fajitas are dry and skimpy on the amount of tortillas. I’ll be going to 3 Hermanos from here on out.

Great margaritas and food. Lots of options on the menu. Margaritas were about $6.50 and had the option of blue, red, and traditional. Two options of salsa, hot and mild. Rice tastes good and tacos were phenomenal.

If you want real authentic Mexican, l'd come here, great food, great service, they have been doing it the right way for decades now. The food tastes just like it did the first time. I always have to come back here and enjoy the Super Burrito or Fajitas.

Michigan is a strange place, with all these microcosms, Mexican town for example, it's like this is what they think Mexican food is. It wasn't bad, just not quite right, but we left full and with leftovers. Also the ambiance was very dim, almost like they don't quite want you to see what you're eating.

Stopped in over the weekend with my husband for dinner. We shared the combo fajita and some strawberry margaritas. Linda was our server and she was awesome! She was very attentive, she made sure to check on us. She was an amazing server thank you Linda for making our date night great!

We were seated almost instantly. Our server was so friendly. We immediately got fresh chips and salsa with water. The lighting is a little too dim. I could barely read my menu. Our food didn't take long to come out and everything tasted great. The biggest thing that was off-putting was where we sat. It was in the dining room directly on the other side of the wall where customers come in. The people waiting were looking over the wall and talking loud. The manager stood right in the doorway of the room we ate in. So he was basically over my left shoulder and watching the whole time. And I could see and hear all the wait staff in the server aisle. So, it was pretty loud and distracting plus I felt on display. Luckily, I had great company to keep me entertained and good food to enjoy.

One of the few restaurants in Detroit’s Mexican town. Open in Labor Day. Food was good but service was mediocre, with long waits for a table and for getting food even when the place was not at full capacity. I would like to visit again in a regular day to compare.

The best Steak & Cheese Fajitas hands down! My perfect order is and has always been Steak Fajitas w/Cheese, Double Rice, No Beans, extra tortillas (for leftovers *there's always leftovers) extra chips, hot & mild salsa. I haven't swayed from my order since I started going there in the mid 80's. Love Love 💘Love it!

It's been years since I had been there. The service was good, but the food was pretty boring. It wasn't bad, but there are so many other good Mexican restaurants that are closer to me. Probably won't be back on purpose.

  • 4/5 Marc M. 2 years ago on Google
Pros: friendly staff, great food, and an excellent family environment. I enjoyed my time here. And even though my friends and I got a lot of food. The bill was still very affordable. I was surprised between the 4 of us and how much food we ordered; it was only $60. Cons: sadly, the place is small, but I don’t blame the business itself. Lots of restaurants are small in Detroit. Just the wait time might belong. So if you don’t want to wait 10-30 minutes, this might not be the place for you.

I have been going here since I was a baby!! The food is consistently authentic and delicious. Portions are huge and speed of service is very prompt. At times the rice can be hit or miss (undercooked taste) but everything else is amazing! Well worth the wait, if you have one
