Made reservations and had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Very long wait time in-between dishes, was there in total 2.5 hours. Our server was very nice and tried to be as attentive as she could. Table size was small for 4 people, we did find out we could extend the table ourselves, so that's what we did. Calamari was delicious. Alfredo serving size was small and lacked flavor. The shrimp scampi was okay.

Haven't been here in over 8 years (it used to be our family's mainstay) and wow the only regret is that we overate! 2 appetizers (meatballs and pizza margherita), soups, salad course, and family style main courses, and a dessert to share. Service was fantastic. The decor is updated since we last visited, and the crew accommodated our special requests with ease and grace. Will be back soon!!!!

Last night we went to Giovanni’s - hungry for some delicious Italian food — Giovanni’s did not disappoint. Reservations were a little behind - about 20 mins - before we got our table. (We were on time.) We split the Cannelloni di Carne (to die for!) and a salad. FOOD = EXCELLENT SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT ! Lemon cake and ice cream puff covered in chocolate was served with coffee. DESSERT = EXCELLENT ! A NOTE about the service: Erin was our server. She was a consummate professional. All servers say “I’m here to take care of you”. Most of the time the words ring hollow. Erin knew the menu inside and out. She was able to guide and offer opinions as to what each menu item would deliver to our palates. From the beginning, she paced the delivery of food to coincide with our desire to have a relaxed (but not RUSHED), enjoyable dinner. She was the perfect hostess as our server. THANK YOU ERIN ! The only distraction for the evening, was the wait staff that filled our water glasses. After about two or three sips, he was rushing to fill up the water glass. It was almost as if it were a race to the finish. It was very annoying, especially when you’re having a conversation, and an arm is thrust in front of your face trying to find the water glass. Finally I said to him - “how about I ask you for water when I need more?” And that was the end of that… As far as the atmosphere, we found the noise level in the resturant was super loud - enough of a distraction that you had to raise your voice to be heard during conversation. Go back again ?? ABSOLUTELY FOOD - EXCELLENT SERVICE (Erin) - EXCELLENT Thank you Giovanni’s !!

Our family showed up dressed completely inappropriately on our way to greenfield village for a Halloween event. I wanted my wife to experience this magic for her birthday so I couldn't give it away being what a wonderful oasis it is given the area. The staff was amazing and treated us very well. Having been to Italy multiple times the culinary experience was as close as you can get to the old country, even better in many ways. Absolutely love this place and is well worth a couple hour drive. Thank you for all the love carried over the many years!

Simply the best Italian food in Detroit! The lasagna is the best I’ve ever had. The Alfredo is dynamite. The calamari is a must! The service is impeccable.

If you want to dine in a restaurant that serves fine Italian food in a warm ambiance only historic Detroit can deliver, this beautiful spot is for you. Our servers were incredibly kind and everyone who works here was a pleasure to meet and be around. Food was delicious, thoughtfully prepared and we couldn’t get enough. They don’t make restaurant’s like this anymore and Giovanni’s is a taste of Detroit’s little Italy you can’t miss.

A favorite for date night. The food is always very fresh, well made, well seasoned....good balance of rustic and rich. Good wine list. Love to finish the evening off with the dessert tray and espresso. I also am always so into the dimly lit, romantic, old world vibe. It's great to dress up mid week and hit up Giovanni's for a dinner and bottle of wine that always hits the spot.

My husband and I have been going to Giovanni's Ristorante for about 35 years and have always had a wonderful experience with excellent food and service. Well, not so much for our recent Christmas carry-out. I never thought I'd be writing a bad review for this venue, but here goes. I decided to do something special for Christmas Eve dinner, so I ordered two small trays of meat lasagna to serve to my guests. For $30 each, the trays are pretty small, which doesn't bother me because I figured I was getting an exceptional product. Not this time. When I served the lasagna, upon close examination, we discovered 6 layers of lasagna noodles with a super thin layer of cheese in between and absolutely NO MEAT in the dish at all. It did have a healthy layer of cheese on top, however I did not order cheese lasagna, I ordered meat lasagna, and that's what I expected to get. Talk about embarrassed. My guests were expecting meat lasagna from the famous Giovanni's, but they did not get it. We were all extremely disappointed. While I will continue to frequent this restaurant in person (which will afford me the opportunity to carry out quality control on the spot), I will never, ever order carry out from Giovanni's again.

First time here as it has been on my Detroit destination list for the longest time. So glad to arrive. The valet was extremely welcoming! However, the hostess? while preoccupied with her cellphone seemed like she just didn’t want to be in work mode today (there was a different person there on the way out who greeted me and thanked me for coming and to come again). Debbie, my wonderful waitress however was one of the best I’ve ever had. I made her aware it was my very first time & I took her up on the suggestions she offered. Calamari was delicious and I enjoyed their homemade soup. Filet beef tips in their homemade mushroom sauce on top of their homemade house fettuccine. All desserts are homemade with the exception of the local sanders hot fudge crepe puff of course which they add a flavorful twist to that. I took home the homemade orange creamsicle cheesecake which is a seasonal offering. They have a delightful dessert tray to select from. GREAT coffee, so flavorful as I drink it black. Detroit tradition, always and forever!!

Truly fabulous food accompanied with impeccable, familiar service. The staff are friendly and professional. My family has made Giovanni's our first choice for special occasions and celebrations of all kinds along with business events for twenty years and we've always been thrilled with the way we've been treated and delighted with the delicious food and drinks. In my travels around the world I've never found anyone that tops Giovanni's and very few that come close to equalling it.. The numerous tableside visits I've had from Fran over the years were delightful icing on the cake. Dave Reid

Good food. Excellent service from David. The spinach gnocchi with meat sauce was excellent. The chicken picatta was good but not great. Not what I remember it being like. Had to add almost 1/2 lemon of juice to perk up the lemon flavor. Still a good meal and a good experience.

Let me just say this was THE best food my mom and I have ever eaten! Crystal/Chris was our server and gave amazing service too! She was very knowledgeable about the food and the place. We split the shrimp risotto, artichoke special, mushroom gnocchi and seafood wrapped pasta which were HOLY!! Definitely will be coming back.

Great restaurant and ambiance. Came here with a group of friends to enjoy a nice meal and good wine. Everything was full of flavor and tasty. Recommend the lemon chicken. Our service was also fantastic, especially considering that they are currently short staffed. Reservations are highly recommended.

The Godfather room is the way to go for a semi private special setting. We hosted our 84 year old great grandfather and two new babies celebration. They flooded us with steps of service like their own family. We will be back.

We absolutely loved this authentic Italian restaurant. We had the most down to earth server whom we chatted with for a while. Food was amazing. Experience was wonderful. Very intimate and dim lighting. We spent 2.5 hrs dining. This is not a place to get a quick meal. If your like us and like to dine for a long time this is the spot. Overall great dinner date spot.

The food is amazing! We couldn’t stop eating. You can taste the freshness and everything is homemade. Pricing is very fair. First time there. Definitely not our last.

Eggplant lasagna special for an appetizer was great. I am not a big fan of eggplant. Overall, it is a classic fine Italian restaurant. Located in the middle of an industrial area, but inside is a walk back in time.

A first time try for me, overall the place is very good and the environment of it makes you feel like your back decades ago. The wait time for pretty much 3 dishes was definitely a bit on the lengthy side. I ordered a shrimp Alfredo pasta shrimp which was amazing, however I do believe $42.50 for a medium portion sized dish is definitely on the pricey side, so if your looking to spend some money this could be a place. Service, food, and environment however were absolutely amazing that's no doubt.

Everything was really good. The gnocchi were delicious and the dessert was amazing. I really recommend the dessert, you need to try the profiterole.

The totes hooked my cousin and the family up. For that they get some mad props. Noodles, great. I ordered the fish special. Not the best salmon I've had, My advice would be to stick to the classics.

We came here for our anniversary and we were very impressed. It's fancy but not pretentious at all. We had calamari, soup, a salad, and the lasagna. All of the items we ordered were great and we felt like we got a good portion. Our server Angie was really great. The staff seemed very attentive as well. If you're looking for a great Italian restaurant, this would be the first place I would recommend. We'll definitely return.

Great restaurant with some history and charming character. Valet is great and wait staff very trained. Cozy inside with nice set up through out. Bust the food is what makes this establishment good as it is. Server explains the specials and helps with menu choices. Everything on menu is cooked perfect and is so delicious. Never been disappointed in all the times I have visited.

The food is exceptional and the service from the entire staff is even better, if that's possible. It is very expressive but well worth the money for the unforgettable dining experience.

To say this was in my top two Italian restaurants I have ever been to would an absolute understatement. From the Calamari to the Caesar Salad to the main. The main was a panko crusted halibut filets with shrimp, spinach, cherry tomatoes, over a pasta. Then comes dessert. My absolute favorite, Tiramisu. Best for last! The service was second to none. If you are ever in the Detroit area this place is a must. Outstanding.

Best filet mignon I've ever had. Period. Hard to get a medium well steak just right, but they did. Bartender was helpful and friendly. Don't be put off by the industrial wasteland setting. Totally worth it.

I called to seek a reservation for 2. They said they were all booked up but the bar is open seating. We arrived, and the hostess said there are no tables available. So I asked about the bar as it was open seating. She said there are two seats available but those were reserved for people coming in the next hour. I continued to inquire about their policy. I stated I called less than an hour ago and was told the bar was first come, first served, no reservations. I asked to confirm that policy and they did but I was informed they were able to reserve it for somebody else. Another hostess stated well this is what it is and yes you can reserve, after she said it was first come first served. I fell this was unfair and even discriminatory. Kim, the manager, said she understood the problem and hope we come back. We were excited to try this place from others and now will never come back. Would never recommend ANYONE coming to this place.

Great Ristorante! What ambiance! The food was delicious. The service was outstanding! We had Erin as our server. She was so personable and very professional! The entire staff was great. You can tell that this place puts a lot of pride into what they do. We had arancini, shrimp and sausage and peppers for an appetizer. We had steak, lasagna, chicken and pasta for dinner. Everything was so delicious! Ended the evening with a hot fudge cream puff! I will be coming back!!!!!

The calamari was the best I have ever had! The gnocchi was so delicious! You can definitely taste that they were handmade! And the Halibut was cooked to perfection. Our server was on point every step of the dinner, including the birthday surprise for my husband! Thank you!

Best Italian restaurant in Dearborn area that I've tried so far. Lasagne, chicken noodles and chocolate cake were really tasty! Actually the lasagne was officially ranked #3 in my personal ranking just after an authentic lasagne in Milan, Italy and the one my mother prepares. Amazing environment and excellent service! 100% recommended!

What a fabulous place in a very unlikely part of town. First time there. Food, service, ambiance all on point. History and pics very interesting. Kerri our server was knowledgeable, professional and personable. Would go back in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work. The restaurant business is hard and you guys make it look easy. Cheers!

First time visiting for a birthday celebration but it won’t be our last! Everything was a delicious! We loved the Shrimp Giovanni for appetizer and my Veal Piccata didn’t even need a knife. Service was excellent. Everyone from the valet to to the hostess and our wonderful waitress Kimmy was friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend!

We ordered a whole variety of food. Practically anything vegetarian and there were quite a few items. Our waitress (Rochelle?) was exceptional. For the dishes we were sharing, she plated them for us — very special touch. She was able to order the side dishes from this meat entrees for us too. Wow! Everything was delicious. Great place for a special occasion as it was pricey.
