Small, but unique. I had always wanted to stop in. They take donations. I was only there for about 30 minutes. Worth it to check out.

I think this museum is perfect in size, layout, and location. Big enough to house a small number of installations with an intimate feel. Its not too exhaustive so you can enjoy all art even if you visit to see one artist.

What an amazing addition to the artistic scene in Detroit. Nothing stuffy or formal... just enough to pique your interest, without overtaxing the senses. Best of all the entrance fee is whatever you can afford to donate! The MoCaD is a must see!

Neat space but a lot of blasphemous "art".

I found out about this place on instagram Detroit bucket list page. I was really excited about taking my son to this place and we enjoyed really glad we went. The artwork really inspired my son in ways I just didn’t expect so that was awesome. They Detroit bucket list pads on IG did show a bookstore that we were looking forward to seeing but there was no bookstore only the gift shop with a few books but the bartender was great and the drink options were and mix between trendy and old fashioned. This place is donation based so please donate what you can because it’s worth it.

Love the space. Love the atmosphere. Good location. Last night was the most crowded show we’ve been to here. Almost felt like too many tickets were sold? Appreciate the water dispenser up at the bar but it was really hard to get to it through the crowd. Sad that no coffee was available this time. (Yeah, we are old.) Overall a good experience but not sure why we had to wait in line for so long after the start time of 8pm to get inside, though... The older I get the more I wish shows would start on time.

Couldn't get into parking lot. Parking machine charged our credit card at least 2 times; yet, the arm never raised. We parked on the and couldn't find the entrance. What we did it was closed for a private showing.

Was shocked at this place, didn't honestly expect much just because it is a smaller building but they've managed to get a lot in there, also a nice touch with a lot of emphasizing on what Michigan did for different war efforts.

Small and cozy with an amazing collection of WW2 military equipment. Took a couple scouts to work on Military Heritage badge. They walked away after talking to a retired soldier the importance of making peace and seeking peaceful solutions. They say no knows or understand why to avoid war more than an old soldier. Great lesson for a couple of teenage boys. Take your kids to this place, well worth it.

Great experience! Free, monitored parking on site. $5 donation suggested upon entry. Screening required upon entry; your choice of self screening on your phone or staff assisted screening. Large, industrial themed open spaces feature a variety of contemporary, rotating exhibits in a building that was (many years ago) a car dealership. Quaint museum shop offers apparel and gifts you will actually use. The cafe features amazing coffee and snacks to add to the enjoyment of your visit.

Perfect end to a brunch date. Went to the MoCAD on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded so we got to enjoy all of the exhibits to ourselves. They work off donations so give what you can do they can stay open! They also have a bar and refreshments for purchase during your visit.

Take a virtual tour of this fabulous Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art. Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the Institute showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Don't miss the General Motors Center for African American Art, a part of the DIA which showcases 400 pieces, in various media, by African American artists.

Newest addition to Detroit museum scene with open, minimalist space(s) and lots of great art shows and speakers. A personal favorite aspect is a permanent installation behind the building that is a full scale replica of the artist’s childhood home that visitors can walk through and hang out in.

We really enjoyed walking through the space during Noel Night. Staff was friendly, exhibits interesting, and there was plenty of space to maneuver even on a very crowded night as when we went. The steel drum band was fun and entertaining. Would happily return again.

So much history here. I little known gem in the area. I will be visiting again. Was there for RRiveter film what great 1 1/2 hour. Need to sell tickets many think donation means free. If not supported locally it wont be around long. At least pay entrance fee other museums have them. Well worth visiting to see what they have and remember donations of all types appreciated.

This Museum is a great gem in southeastern Michigan. It tells the great story of the Arsenal of Democracy in Detroit. Chris shows us the best of the Wars and you wouldn't be disappointed. Alysa and I have visited this museum many times, and there is always something new to learn and discover. Today we visited for a Labor Day ringing of bells for the Rosies. There were seven original Rosies in attendance, and a chapter is now run out of the museum. Anyone interested in learning about the military in Michigan, Eastpointe's NASA astronaut Jerry Linenger, or observing artifacts from many different wars, will enjoy this museum. It's a great destination in Eastpointe and I'm happy they are a part of the community.

This is a nice little museum where you will learn about how Michigan contributed to the fight for freedom in the 20th to 21st century (WW1 to Iraq/Afghan conflicts)

  • 5/5 Carrie F. 4 years ago on Google
My Pastor held a memorial day service there to remember all the vets . It was short but phenomenal. Very heartfelt. The facility was awesome. I had no idea this place existed. Phenomenal displays, and it really makes you more grateful for the Veterans that served our Country. It is not huge, but it has a great deal of history there. Definitely worth seeing. It is civilian ran and no public dollars. They have done an amazing job.

Incredibly disappointed to see the anti-Israel exhibit summer 2021. This sort of politics, including talk of "settler colonialism" (describing people who are actually native to the region??) and "institutionalized violence," without any context for what is an incredibly complex situation, should have no place in an art museum.

  • 5/5 Jay E. 3 years ago on Google
Well worth a visit. Great space, somehow both small & large. Free to enter (donations accepted/encouraged) and free parking.

It was a thought provoking and eclectic collection of pieces, especially the current showing of collaborative projects, however the video presentation left me feeling slightly perplexed. Over all, a very positive experience.

Great museum. Its free and there's even a coffee shop, so you can enjoy a cup after seeing some authentic modern art. It a very wide open setting with no walls and plenty of room to enjoy yourself. There wasn't a lot of people when I went, but you could tell that many have been here. It isn't huge, but there is a nice variety.

Had a great time. Went to see the Terracotta Warriors, and saw some other displays. Ragnar Kjartansson was a great experience. A group of people in an old home in NY, various different rooms all start playing a song. You see each of the musicians playing on different screens around the room.

Large uninviting space. Nothing personal about the experience. What I find remarkable is that in a city with 84% people of color, I did not see one brown face among the staff or vendors. They have to do better than that. Neat, clean and seems to be well run.

Well I went here with no knowledge really what to expect so I don’t know if I had my expectations hi or if it just wasn’t my idea of what I think artist. It’s very contemporary there is five exhibit so look at all to be seen within about two minutes. Need to check out but I don’t think I’ll be back. It’s not my forte.
