OMG, a Literal Gem, a great place filled with Energy and History and so much art. And the way art is, Open to Interpretation, makes everything you see here valuable in that aspect alone. All I can say is Enjoy. I posted a few pics but everything you see is better when in front of your own two eyes!

It's important to note that the museum is also an incredible art installation. Not just incredible, but a stunning display of the resourceful and outspoken creativity that no city can do to the same way Detroit can and does. The museum itself is a highly niche and curated space of artifacts of Africa and its diaspora. Having spent a few years on the continent, its remarkable to be able to find such a rich part of its culture, and so much of it as well. But the art is really the thing to come and see. It's impossible to summarize without photos: blocks of murals, paintings, and statues, which repurpose what might otherwise be considered waste into mosaics, pictures, and scenes of community, and beauty, and pain. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it. It's free to visit and it's really, really impactful. (Support it.)

Loved looking at the amazing variety of beads and decorative pieces here!! Especially enjoyed my conversation with Davos(sp?) - hope I got that right - who told us the histories of his offerings, and sold us some very nice pieces at a very reasonable fare... Every square inch inside and out a great labor of love and preservation of History, I heartily recommend finding and discovering his beautiful wares and the stories behind them all, for yourself!! Next time we're in Michigan we WILL be back!

I love how everything is art to this man. I love the green house he created, and all the art space for people to enjoy, that is always changing.

Love to check out the outside space a few times each year. Seeing the changes being made over time is exciting to me. The store itself is a lot of fun to roam around in too, I've been able to meet the owner/artist which I always appreciate. The other staff was very friendly and welcoming as well, just a great stop for something not mainstream.

We loved it. Took teenage daughter there for Detroit education fun. She spent an hour picking out beads special to her. The associate (former teacher) was very informative & remade a few things to her taste. Reasonable price, history and just plain cool. Met owner Dabls who is iconic and grateful to share. Thank you! Will return!

This is one of my favorite places. I love the art work and the friendly, healing atmosphere. There are loads of pictures and videos on the Internet as Dabls has been making the art at this site for about 25 years. And there are lots of beads available to see and purchase.

Unique museum find. Also, if you are into jewelry and artwork made from semi precious stones it's worth a visit.

Very cool place, so much art to see both indoors and outdoors, and a wide selection of beads and other items for sale. Will definitely be back as there was far too much for me to properly take in with the limted time I had.

The buildings are a work of art. Then you go inside to the museum/ gallery. Be prepared to be blown away, it's that cool

Fascinating! So much to look at over a few acres of land, and beads from around the world inside. The installation is not for the faint of heart though. There's no landscaping, which could bring more class to the exhibition of Mr. Dabls work.

I think you just have to experience this place for yourself. It feels like a story that you slightly remember, that happened to someone else that used to be you... I loved the shop and the art installation. Go. Leave some money in the box, buy some beads. But definitely visit here. It's beautiful, happy, sad, haunting and hopeful.

Went today with two of my best friends and had such an amazing experience! After looking around you can make your own bracelet which is what we did. Dabl told me his bead museum has been open for 23 years and the entire place is extraordinary with the best vibes. Will for sure be going back soon!
