This factory tour is about 2 hours long and is very well worth it. We first took their bus from the Museum Visitor Center to the factory complex, which is humongous. We first watched a film about the history of Ford Motor Company and how Henry Ford set up production lines to mass produce the Model T. Then we went to another station with multiple screens, two robot arms and a model F150 pickup truck. It’s kind of like a Disneyland presentation. They said they spent several millions to have this company, which indeed makes production for theme parks, to make the show for them. Then we went into the actual factory and looked down onto the production floor. The line will move 1 vehicle every 53 seconds. We saw the workers putting on various parts on the slowly moving vehicles, and robot arms putting on windshields. Pretty cool. But too bad there’s no cellphone or camera allowed. While we wondered what if the workers need to go to the restroom, the line stopped and they got to take a 10-minute break. We could take our leisure to look at the various areas of the production line. And then at the end there is a classic car display.

I took the factory tour on July 3rd, and it was worth every penny! Make sure you get here with some time to spare beforehand (I would recommend 20min before the shuttle departure), as there can be some distance from the parking area to the shuttle bus station, depending on where you park. I miscalculated and missed my initial bus; although the staff was kind enough to exchange my ticket for the next one, it is not guaranteed. The tour is very well organized. It goes like this: Bus to factory – standard theatre (history of Ford and the factory) – immersive theatre (super cool) – observation deck (you can stay for longer after the initial explanation to read the panels and ask questions) – actual factory visit (self-guided walk-around with staff members/volunteers posted at key points) – ground floor exhibit, gift shop and Living Lab tour. The overall experience was very novel and exciting, especially as someone with an interest in transportation but not from a STEM background. It was a pity that the factory workers were on a scheduled weeklong break during my visit, so I couldn’t see the factory production in action, but good for the workers! Nevertheless, it was cool to walk around the factory and see all the still machinery. I wish there were more signs along the walking route to explain what we were seeing. I found that some staff knew more than the others, so perhaps more training would be nice. I would recommend asking for the Living Lab tour at the end. The tour was not proactively offered; I only knew about it from the website. Upon asking for it, the staff team did find a young, cheerful guide, who gave my group a private tour to show us the gardens, the factory’s environmental and sustainability initiatives, and even the failed solar panels. It was really cool to see the successes and failures and the implications of the factory and the initiatives on the environment. In all, we spent about 3 hours from boarding the bus to getting off the bus back at the Henry Ford, and perhaps 3.5 hours in total when taking into account the time for parking, gift shop, waiting for the bus, etc. It’s a huge and fascinating place so budget enough time to fully take in the experience. Note that photography is not allowed in the actual factory, so don’t expect to take cool shots of the production!

Just ok for me. We went on a Mystery Tour with a group... we had no idea where we were going. I was disappointed when we came to this place...I don't really have an interest in cars or how they're made. Although, I did enjoy the video presentations. There were 3; the last one was extremely loud. We got to walk above the area where they were assembling F-150 Ford trucks. Then we went to the top level and saw the "green" area they grow in the roof. If you're interested in the environment, you might enjoy this. It was just ok for me. Cameras were not allowed in the theaters or production are. The photos posted are from the lobby area.

Awesome tour of the Ford F-150 truck plant. Had a great time learning all about the process for the current trim and the future of the electric lightning trucks. Definitely have to give it a try if you are planning on seeing the Henry Ford museum, such a great combo to do both activities. I would recommend that you do one of the morning tours to avoid big crowds. I will be coming back with my friends and family who haven't been able to make it out yet.

Had a great Tour of the Ford factory. Well executed effort on Ford's part for a fun, interactive, and educational tour. They have a well oiled process that gets you easily to and through the experience. Learned a lot about F150 production. You start at the museum, and a bus takes you to and from the factory. It took us 1 1/2 hours for our experience, and we were the last of the day. We could have used a bit more time, but we saw all there was. The 8 story observation tower gives you a great view of the complex.

This was definitely the highlight of my visit to the greater Detroit area. We booked the factory tour online 2 weeks ahead of time and parking was included as an additional cost. When we arrived, we found a spot pretty close to the Welcome Center and made our way to the bus pickup location. If you arrive ahead of your time, they will try to get you included on an earlier tour. The ride to the factory seemed long but it was worth it. No pictures were allowed but the tour was amazing and well thought out. The video at the beginning was informative and kept everyone’s attention. Production was halted for the day but we were still allowed to walk and see the production lines. It was really cool, so I can only imagine how much more we wouldn’t have enjoyed it if we had seen some real action. I’d love to go again and highly recommend!

It was very cool!!! We took our 5 year old and 3 year old and they actually enjoyed the tour also!!! It was cool to be able to tell them that their grandfather and great grandfather worked there!!!! Also they got to see how Papa's truck was made!!! The theaters are very informative and innovative!!! All the employees were wearing masks and we were told to wear masks on the bus to the factory...which made me feel safe because our daughters cannot get vaccinated yet.... I would definately recommend this tour if you're in the area and have time to check it out!!!!

This was one of the most fascinating and coolest places I have had the chance to explore. It was so neat to be able to watch the automotive assembly line at work. It's a two hour tour that takes through the whole factory. After touring the actual factory they have you go into a small movie theater and you get to watch a movie about Henry Ford and how he made is dream of making an automobile come true, the history of the automotive industry and the history of the historic River Rouge Factory. At the end of the tour they take you up to an observation deck where you can see the span of the entire factory and it's huge!

If I visit Detroit again I’ll definitely visit the factory. It’s amazing to learn about the history of the company and be able to see how the F-150 is made. The videos are engaging, easy to understand and very dynamic. A great experience if you like industrial engineering, like cars and want to learn more about it. A must see in Detroit!

A very interesting and entertaining experience about Ford's F150 production. Other than the terrible shuttle bus ride over and back where both (two different ones) roof's leaked and caused the passengers to have to open our umbrellas inside the bus or get soaked. Otherwise, the tour starts off guided with a few fun stops, one of which is this high tech multimedia show in an immersive theater. Then a view of the plant from a high perspective where the whole process is explained. From that point, it becomes a self guided tour of the assembly line from a mezzanine that surrounds much of the body assembly and ends with the body and chassis assembled and going thru final quality control checks. Takes about 2 to 2-1/2hrs from bus ride to bus ride if you take your time on the self guided part. I understand why but it is unfortunate that you can't take photos of any of the assembly line or intro show. Overall a fun and very worthwhile experience.

Wow! This was an extraordinary experience for me and the whole family. The 3D movie, history movie and factory tour were amazing, staff explained very nicely and we're so friendly. Bus ride was right on time. We tried going to the museum and the village after the factory tour, it was a bit too much for one day. I recommend choosing 2 out of the 3 if you are traveling with little ones Tour was fully accessible with the baby stroller.

An interesting tour that started with two short movies then eventually went into the assembly area. Personally I would have liked to spend more time in the assembly area watching the F150’s get built.

Great museum. I didn't do outside as it was raining, but the normal and limited museum exhibitions are always worthy of a visit. The things to do and see are fairly varied, from cars to art.

A nice experience. Very interesting to see how the F-150 is made. You can't take pictures until you get to the viewing deck where you'll get an interesting presentation on how Ford 8s making the plant environmentally friendly.

The tour was GREAT! Very informative, educational and well designed. The staff from start to finish were friendly and professional. The assembly line was amazing to see!

Tickets for the tour can be bought from Ford Museum/Greenfield Village entrance, but be aware: it takes at least two hours to finnish the tour (although you can leave when you want), so if you arrive late at the site you won't be able to do all three of them. The tickets are valid for several days, so you can visit one at a time. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the factory by bus, which leaves from the front of the Ford Museum. The tour is comprised of 5 stations: history of Ford Factory movie, car production presentation, overview of the factory from up above, the actual factory tour (you get to walk through some corridors above the factory lines) and a hall in which some symbol-cars of the company are exhibited. You can't take pictures anywhere except for the overview deck.

Good tour for the price. Only F-150’s being made. No photos allowed in the factory and first two parts of the tour.

Awesome Tour. This is our first time visiting an assembly plant. You get to see how F150 is built, in front of your eyes. Photos are not allowed inside the plant. No time limit, you can watch the assembly line for the whole day if you like. 10 mins bus ride from main visitor centre.

Great experience, I wish we would’ve had more time to spend there but we had a flight later in the day so we were limited

10/10 experience because of Jackie on the factory tour side. She was so helpful, sweet and kind. Also appreciated Lindsey Wallace at ticket sales. She's in training and she did amazing. Great staff.

Informative, engaging and one of a kind tour of the Ford plant where they make F-150s. Two movies, sky deck, factory walk and small museum. Doable in a few hours and with young kids. We did have a baby with us and the second movie was quite loud with strobe lights- just a heads up! But overall really cool to see a true assembly line and vehicles being built- gives a whole new perspective on what we drive around in every day. We were there on a holiday when the line wasn’t operating but you almost get everything frozen in time for easier observation.

I booked the tour while staying at the Dearborn Inn. What is great is that you get on a bus at Henry Ford and they take you to the factory and back. The tour is amazing. There were a few cars on display but you came to see the factory. It is a modern assembly plant and very impressive. Part of the tour you get to view actual assembly. I saw the F150 line.

Went with the whole family. Everyone enjoyed the experience. We had bad timing. The assembly line stopped for a break shortly after we went into the factory. We only got about 5 minutes of watching them assemble f150s. Would be 5 stars had we got to see the whole line working. Maybe let guests know when the line is going on break so we can plan our visit better? I would still recommend checking it out

I thoroughly enjoyed the Rouge factory tour. I’m an assembly worker for ford in KC and I loved the second video that shows exactly how the assembly line works step by step- I felt it made it easy for anyone to understand and also helped show just how innovative ford is. I would also suggest making sure the plant is running the day that you go for a tour (they have days listed when there’s no production on the info for visiting). The tour takes about 1.5-2 hours, and it’s definitely worth the stop to see the assembly line in action!

  • 5/5 Maria A. 1 year ago on Google
The tour was both interesting and educational. Part of the tour is guided before you enter the factory. Once in the factory, it is a self-guided tour where you go at your own pace. Both children and adults will enjoy the tour. No pictures are allowed in the factory. But after exiting the tour there are some displays with cars and trucks where you can take photos.

  • 5/5 Hendri B. 1 year ago on Google
Loved the tour, seeing final assembly of the F150 and some great big screen animations. Different then most European car factory tours, but certainly very iconic to see the plant and its operations!

  • 5/5 Aaron N. 1 year ago on Google
Great value for the money. This is cheaper than the Ford museum tour and just as educational. I would highly recommend it to anyone that is planning to be in the area. You will be picked up by bus from the main entrance to the museum and taken to the factory. The 3d lightshow during the intro video was amazing

  • 3/5 Arina G. 1 year ago on Google
Its okay tour, however, too much time wasted figuring out where shuttle bus, then waiting and riding. Would be nice if you could just get near where actual tour is starts and save time for other activities. Also museum preview at least could be included in tour price. Overall is just okay. Museum is more interesting

Great tour but requires significant time investment to properly see and enjoy the whole tour. No photos allowed inside the building during the tour.

Loveeeedd the tour!! Both the theatre shows are sooo good! Best time to visit would be in the morning or between 11 to 1 pm! Be sure to check if the production is going on, it is fun when you see F150 in making live😍
