I find it difficult to write this review because I wanted my experience to be so much more but then I realized that businesses cannot improve without people being honest. I loved the idea of a girls getaway with my daughters and staying in a castle but when it comes right down to it I’m wishing I had booked a stay somewhere else. Most of the lights in our room were missing light bulbs, both in and out of the bathroom. We were told we could explore the castle by one person and when we asked for directions we were told that we had to stick to the main floor. I realize that the castle is old but our room was very much in need of general maintenance; such as the mirrors being cleaned, the furniture was very dusty, and the floors looked like they had not been swept in months. The towels given to use were hard and not pleasant to even dry our hands with. We never took a shower because the bathroom in our room was dirty and poorly lit from only having 1 light bulb. We expected old beds but not old worn down mattresses. Due to the condition of the rest of the room we slept on top of the covers. The heat in the room was set to what felt like 80 degrees and we could not adjust it resulting in it being very uncomfortable to try to sleep. We were told breakfast was 8am-9:30am and when we went to the private dining hall at 8:20am where there was limited seating for more than 2 people, no food was available. Although I paid for breakfast as part of our cost, in the end we did not eat anything at the castle. I really was hoping that it would be a great experience that we would not forget ended up being a horrible experience that we won’t forget.

BED BUG WARNING! We had the most horrific experience at this castle. We made reservations only to get there and wait over an hour for our room to be ready. They kept telling us they were putting the bedding on. It was all odd from the minute we arrived. The bartender apologized for the wait and said he would comp our drinks. Later I realized he only took care of my husband’s beer but not my drink. Our room was very unique and we loved the setting but after about an hour we realized they had a very bad BED BUG infestation. I just laid across the bed and in no time there were little bugs crawling all over me. The lights and television were on and it didn’t matter, they were everywhere. No one wanted to acknowledge the issue and acted as if we were crazy. I took pictures and videos because I had never seen anything like it. There is no way they didn’t know there were bed bugs. We believe the long wait for our room was to try and hide it. It took two weeks and countless unanswered calls and emails, a trip to the doctor and a chat with a lawyer friend to get a refund. I had a severe reaction to the bites that took almost three weeks to get over. The idea that we could’ve taken them to our own home still freaks me out. It’s a really neat place but all this was extremely disappointing so just be aware. Hopefully they’ve addressed the problem.

We were very excited at the thought of dining and spending the night. We regret now not reading the reviews online. This experience was the absolute worst! Had reservations for eight people for 6:30 on a Saturday. When we were seated, the restaurant was almost empty. Our waitress started out great with drinks. We ordered a seafood tower as an appetizer for the table. It took over 1 1/2 hours before we got any food. Our soup and salad were ok, but it took a long time to get it to the table. When I say a long time, we got our main course at 10:00! 3 1/2 hours after we were seated. Smaller groups who came in after us had completed their dining and had gone before we got the main course. For the food, the pork chop was RAW. Not undercooked, raw. My wife ordered the scallops and received four of the smallest scallops we had ever seen and they were over cooked. Three of our party ordered the fillet. All ordered either medium or medium rare. These steaks were the rarest we had ever seen. And chewy. They could eat a fillet because it was difficult to cut with a knife and chewy. When we were asked how our meal was, we were honest. I had already sent the pork chop back. We were then assured he would take care of it and adjust our bills. 20 minutes later he returned and our bills showed we were being charged for our entire meals!!!! After further discussion, he adjusted the bills appropriately. It was now more than four hours since we were seated. Do yourself a favor and find a restaurant that knows how to cook and serve patrons.

We have stayed here twice. I will say the castle itself is beautiful and brings you to a peaceful simpler time. With that said the management and maintenance could use work. We stayed for my birthday and were told we would get a free drink, we waited for a half hour for the bartender, asked the front desk staff and they didn't know where he was and never got that birthday drink. The first time we stayed we set a breakfast but no staff were there in the morning. The rooms also have crumbling plaster and need some work. If the owner reads this: your beautiful business has so much potential. Use some of your profits for maintenence instead of things like the new hot tub. I'm sorry for the poor review but I would give the castle another try. The Patterson Inn castle in Denver is similar but the execution is perfect, you could try to connect with that owner for a strong network and advise. Best Regards

We had a great time staying at this historic landmark. Henderson Castle felt like a museum that you could stay at. Each room had a theme that looks like a display that you can enjoy. There is a lot of details worth checking out. If you get there early enough, you can explore the history. The employees were very helpful when we arrived and they were very understanding for any concerns that me or my friends had while staying there. The hot tub on the roof was easy to use and exciting for the winter time. We are considering coming back again either in the fall or some time next year. Thank you for a memorable experience.

Take our experiences as a warning—worst ever stay at a B&B. We left a day early because the accommodations were so awflul. Don’t believe what appears on the Inn’s website to be true. Although the Inn itself is impressive from the outside, the inside is another story: dirty, poorly maintained. Our room—unlike its description on the Inn’s website—was very tiny with a shower and air conditioner that didn’t work properly. Our shower sprayed directly on the floor and when finished left a 1/4” of water on the floor throughout the day. Our air conditioner was very, very noisy and lacked an off button to quiet it. Adjusting its temperature and fan settings had no effect. When asked, staff told me to unplug the air conditioner which we didn’t on a July night with high temperatures. After a sleepless first night, we decided to leave and forfeit $253 which management said was not refundable. To complete our “worst ever” experience, we discovered that we had left two articles of clothing in our room. Staff were able to locate those 2 articles and asked for our credit card number to return them. After almost a month, with multiple messages left with no replies, we were able to reach someone on registration who told us the articles had disappeared. To repeat: take our experiences as a warning.

I want to start off with, true hospitality is STILL alive! We found nothing but that during our stay at the Historic Henderson Castle. The staff went above & beyond to make sure our stay was memorable. When you stay here, you are walking back in time & enjoying the history in which the staff/ owner are caring enough to help preserve. With that in mind, the reviews from those who are not familiar with preserving & caring for living history definitely reflect! If you want a mainstream hotel space & amenities then don’t take the time to come here, because this beautiful place does not deserve the harsh reviews that are reflected due to their mainstream hotel perspective! If you want a TRUE living history experience, please come share in what we were able to experience! The Queens Tower was our favorite room we were able to see(we had the pleasure of seeing ALL of them on the tour because there were no stay overs the day we checked in!) & we had the pleasure of staying in this one too! We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast by room service on our beautiful in room balcony(incredible view!) . Take the time to schedule the wine & history tour as well! So worth it!! Thank you to all the Henderson Castle staff that went above & beyond during our stay! True piece of History you are preserving !

I really wanted to like this place. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds are beautiful. However, the food isn’t that great. The soup is very salty and my crabcakes came out burnt. They also didn’t have hardly any crab, and it was mostly breading. The picture on the menu on the website looks completely different. When I told the server I didn’t like them he said he would see what he could do but no promises. They ended up comping my one glass of wine and the up charge for the soup. However, I wasn’t offered to order something else.

Poorly managed business. I should have read reviews before booking. I do not like to give bad reviews; however, I am following in the footsteps of many who feel that this review may help others from losing money and hopefully encourage this establishment to change their business practice. The Henderson Castle offered a “Kids Cooking Class” that sounded perfect for myself and my grandson. I repeatedly tried calling for more information, but no one ever answered the phone. There was no voicemail option. I opted to book online anyway, in hopes that an itinerary would be provided with the class receipt. This was not the case. The receipt was only for the credit card submitted. No further class information was provided. The day prior to the class, I tried calling the Henderson Castle to assure our reservation. This time a woman answered the phone but relayed that she “had no clue about a cooking class.” She promised to call me back. She never did. The following day, my grandson and I showed up for the reserved cooking class. Staff milled about but no one greeted us. The front desk us unattended. It was a very awkward feeling. I finally interjected that we were there for the cooking class. Another guest piped in and said that there was another mother and daughter in the bar waiting for the cooking class. I approached this mother and asked her if she knew what was happening, regarding the cooking class. She stated that staff was asking management. We were then approached by a man who abruptly stated that the cooking class was canceled. The mother relayed to the man that she was extremely disappointed because the previously month’s cooking class had also been canceled. She continued to advise that she called the previous day to be sure the class was proceeding. No one answered her call. We asked for a refund and the man said that we would have to call the manager. I called repeatedly and no one answered the phone. I subsequently emailed the manager and did not get a reply. All attempts at getting a fair and equitable resolve to this incident has failed. My review is like many: this establishment does not commit themselves to fair, ethical and high-quality business practices.

I can not say enough wonderful things about my most recent stay at the Henderson Castle. From the moment we had any contact with the staff, every moment was luxurious. Julie greeted us warmly at the door and escorted us up to our wonderful room, the "Italian Suite." The room was beautifully decorated with champagne, roses, rose peddles and chocolate covered strawberries. Later that evening we sat in the spirits lounge under the direction of Shawna the most fantastic bar tender I have ever met. She truly knows how to make the best chocolate Martini. Not only can she make the best drinks but she is also quite the conversationalist engaging all the guests in conversation and truly getting to know them and make them feel right at home. Jaquar, the hotel manager was also amazing in making sure our stay was wonderful. I can not say enough wonderful things about my stay at this beautiful Historic Inn. I hope to be back to visit there very soon. This staff and castle Rocks!!!

if you want a little getaway come to The Henderson castle! Stayed in the Dutch room such a beautiful room with a king size bed. Hot tub on the roof time so cool and an amazing view of the city of Kalamazoo. We did have to wait for the last spa to be over cause the staircase is in the same room. But when the last spa appointment is over then the door is open to go up to the hot tub. Opened for a few hours for guests to use so thats fine because we still enjoyed it! It was not the workers fault. We had a few drinks at the bar with an amazing ceiling so beautiful and unique. So glad we got a little history at the front desk because she is the tour guide so she knew a lot about the castle! Cant wait to come here again! I hope my review helps you guys to stay here!!

For starters, it was very difficult to get anyone to answer the phone to even book my stay let alone to answer any questions. When I finally talked to someone the woman was rude and not able to answer my question. Despite this, booked three rooms for 6 of us for a weekend. The castle is pretty cool but old (that was expected). The beds were uncomfortable in all three rooms though. It was not very clean. We booked the Haunted History Dinner which was horrible. We expected ghost stories that happened in the castle along with a history on the people who built it and lived there. Instead it was pretty much a three hour commercial for the guy's paranormal you tube channel. Not to mention my 18 year old being singled out as a "non believer" by one of the presenter's assistants. It made my 18 year old very uncomfortable causing her to leave before the end. The food at the dinner was terrible. The chicken was dry and the proportions were totally uneven between plates. Where the dinner was held is surrounded by rooms and the spa. My daughter and niece stayed in a room off the dinner space which would have been awkward if we hadn't been in the dinner. A couple did come out of the spa in robes in the middle of our dinner. They looked mortified and embarrassed! The bar drinks were decent but very expensive for Kirkland Vodka! The second night, my mom and sister's room had a ceiling leak. The staff couldn't get a hold of the owner and apparently had no authorization to do anything. Finally another staff person was called in from home and booked them a room in a nearby hotel. Rather than refunding their room, the owner refunded the brunch for the six of us, which was weird since we didn't all move to a hotel. I would not recommend staying here. We did catch the end of a drag show after the boring dinner which was fun! I would say if you want to visit the castle go to the drag show! Also, Lou was the best staff person there. He is awesome!

I got married at this venue in August. If you are looking for a small ceremony and photo opts with your own photographer I highly recommend the castle. However, this venue promised many things in a package my husband and I paid for that were not followed through with. The package we chose was supposed to make the experience less stressful but ended up being more stressful. There was a huge lack of communication after we signed our contract. After asking for the vendors names or businesses multiple times, we were always told that they would get a hold of us. We had 61 people for dinner, the food was raw for multiple tables. This took us by suprise as our tasting was phenomenal and everything was cooked to perfection. Our "photographer" was an amateur in a professional setting. She was very sweet and seemed very professional but our photos look like anyone with a digital camera could've taken them; we are so glad we payed for an additional photographer after we still hadn't heard from the venue's photographer 6 months prior to the wedding. The castle was beautiful, and the bakery they used did an amazing job. The DJ service provided was phenomenal. The servers were amazing and handled themselves very professionally, even when the food errors were mentioned. There were many good things as well as some negative. If Henderson Castle is a venue you would like to use, I recommend getting a list of vendors before signing your contract.

My kids and I had a wonderful day and night there. We stayed in the Victorian suite and did a tour of the castle. I love old history and ghost for which we experienced some activities. Well definitely be staying here again. The breakfast and atmosphere was wonderful and the staff. I couldn't be happier.

My friend and I stayed in the castle for the weekend. We were very disappointed in the condition of our room and the castle in general. The room was dirty, cups and glasses dirty in the dining room (we had to try 4 cups before finding a clean one). The light fixtures were dirty and missing light bulbs. The high tea consisted of appetizers you would get at Costco. Nothing made by a chef. The bathtub did not have a shower spray and we were unable to get our heads under the faucet to wash our hair. And the sink was coming off the pedestal. The grounds and castle could be lovely, but it is all in disrepair. We did have a good time at the murder mystery event but we can't recommend the castle.

Our stay was comically horrible. Three employees total in the space, working their butts off in the kitchen, at the front desk, and in the restaurant/waiting tables. Staff was very friendly but there simply were not enough of them. Our room was misrepresented online (walked through bath to get to the bed, tub had no stopper or handrails with steeply angled sides (didn't feel safe getting in), no shower, no stopper in the sink, room barely had space for us to roll our suitcase in (only one person could be standing/moving about at a time). Centerpieces on restaurant tables were rotting and smelly. Dinner was good but very overpriced; breakfast was not even passable (fruit well past ripeness, egg raw, and breakfast was ordered night prior and scheduled for a specific time (their requirement) but it came 30 mins late). Grounds were overgrown in a creepy movie sort of way. Guests sign contract upon checkin that they were responsible for locking the front door to the entire castle after 10pm. Also, no food or beverages allowed in to the castle (ie, takeout) - the same front door contract included a list of hefty fines if this rule was breached. Facility was interesting but dusty and tired looking. We had hoped for a romantic getaway, but we did come home with a great story.

We had a great experience for my birthday! They made us feel right at home from the tour, wine tasting, hot tub, and amazing dinner. We were hesitant because of the other reviews on here but our time with Henderson castle was great! We would and will definitely be back.

My boyfriend and I decided to stop in for a wine tasting and ended up staying for dinner. Megan.L was amazing. She hosted our wine tasting as well as served us at dinner. Megan was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Staff truly went above and beyond to enhance our experience there. It just so happened to be my birthday and I was happy to spend the evening at the historic Henderson Castle. The building is absolutely beautiful and full of character.

This review is mainly for the wine tasting. Matt is amazing & we throughly enjoyed our time with him. He was funny & entertaining- I would go again just to visit him. The tour was mediocre at best - rooms were dingy & our tour guide was lost.

Absolute SCAM, do not stay here! They don't care about their guests at all! My wife and I booked a room for one night to get away for our anniversary. We drove 3 hours and were very excited to explore Kalamazoo and stay at this historic location. We arrived around 5pm and were greeted at the main lobby. The two hosts told us about breakfast and that we needed to make our selection before we went to our room. We elected for the basic breakfast which was yogurt, granola, fruit and a croissant. They took us to our room and gave us our keys and said have a nice stay. Said Nothing about the hotel, when we were to checkout, nothing about the area. NOTHING! Not a great start but we kind of laughed it off. Upon entering the room all the lights were on and the TV was playing loudly. Slightly odd, but again laughed it off. The bathroom was poorly lit and multiple bulbs were missing in several light fixtures. The shower barely worked and was almost dark inside. These things were minor compared to what happened later that night. We went out to dinner and came back to our room around 1130pm. We got ready for bed and noticed the person staying above us being rather loud stomping and moving around. At first this didn't bother us until it continued LATE into the night. 1am we woke up to noise, 2am again woke up. Thought hopefully they'll go to bed. THEY DID NOT. This continued until 5am when my wife and I had enough and tried to call to complain, no answer. Went to try to find someone to ask these people above us to keep the noise down, no one to be found. We were so exhausted and frustrated we left at 5am to drive 3 hours home so we could sleep. We both took time off of work and found a babysitter to watch our kids so we could have a night away. This was the worst experience ive had in a long time. I've tried to contact the hotel 3 different times to ask for some sort of compensation. No one has got back to me. Please listen to all these bad reviews and don't stay here.

The architecture is beautiful and Intriguing! Especially at night being lit up from the inside. It was like stepping back in time with a very elegant and spooky feel to it. My very first time visiting and I can't wait to go back for more experiences!

Loved staying here. Went for my birthday. The staff brought our food to our room…up 2-3 sets of stairs and that was very awesome of her. Husband loved the hot tub on the roof even though it was the middle of January. Recommend to all for a night or more 😀

The castle and grounds are beautiful. They did a good job on the wine tasting. The dinner was a little slow to be served but good quality and breakfast was underwellming in portion size but the croissant was tasty. There is room for improvement but they were all very friendly.

Everything was amazing! Staff was so friendly and attentive, food was AMAZING, drinks were great, and the stories were awesome too! We stayed in Cabin B (Carriage house) which has the 2 person whirlpool tub- added bonus, it has a backdoor to a little garden! The other rooms inside of the mansion were beautiful! Next time we will definitely stay in one of the other rooms. It is exactly what it is- a very old mansion with all of the quirks and beautifully decorated. Owners- feel free to contact me for photos of the rooms we were able to see. I have almost all of them.

Showed up at 400pm as we are passing through from the Chicago area to Anne Arbor. What a fantastic, historic, amazing building. We were allowed to walk all three floors and admire the incredible woodwork and architecture. Front desk service was friendly, polite, and welcoming. The Italian room was clean with marble floors and vintage decorations. we quickly reserved a dinner time unpacked and visited the bar the service was wonderful, and full of hospitality. Stay tuned for more,,,,,

My boyfriend whisked me away for my 41st birthday and we pulled up to this lovely mansion on a hill. He just told me to pack an overnight bag. We stayed in the French room and it was charming and welcoming. Staff super courteous. We placed our breakfast order when we checked in. Sadly the spa was booked but we toured the castle and relaxed until dinner. We then had a lovely French dinner comparable to a meal I actually had in Paris! After dinner we enjoyed the roof top hot tub in January. It was one of those perfect moments we will cherish our whole lives! The next morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in our room. I highly recommend this place! I hope to return soon!

Terrible place all the negative reviews are spot on. My stake tasted cold and was not cooked properly also could tell it had been frozen. The hosts responded its not frozen and he had just picked it up yesterday but the menu said aged for 45 days so that's a lie too. Even the soda was flat no bubbles. The only positive was we were not charged as we did not eat anything gee thanks.

I have loved the Henderson Castle since 1986 when I was able to tour for the first time. I have since had the opportunity to go there for a haunted tour. So much fun! They have done such a wonderful job upgrading the home, but keeping the feel of a home built in the 1800's. The staff are wonderful and make you feel very welcome.

I took my daughters and my mother-in-law for the High Tea. We loved the atmosphere, so beautiful inside and out. The tea options were great and the menu was very tasty. I was grateful for how easily it lent itself to those with dietary restrictions (gluten-free in our case). The service was impeccable. We will be back at some point for an overnight stay!

We had a wonderful dinner here. The service was excellent and the tour was amazing. Next time, I hope we get to stay the night! The location is just a few miles from downtown Kalamazoo and we saw some sketchy behavior before walking up to the castle, but the castle and grounds itself felt safe and inviting. Can’t wait to visit again.

The cabin was comfy and I enjoyed the privacy. It was great for a couples getaway. We also took the cook class and made tomato soup (I don’t remember the correct name) from scratch. It was delicious and a simple recipe!! My boyfriend can still make the soup a year later. The onsite restaurant was convenient and had great options. The Castle is about 5-10 minutes away from many major stores and restaurants which is a plus for any last minute needs.

We have been doing the couple’s packages for the spa treatments for 3 years and they are wonderful! My husband is obsessed with the tomato bisque! The dinners are delicious too! We did wine tasting last time and the bar tender (Mike…I think) was very knowledgeable on his wine! He even got my husband to try some! We now have a bottle of wine! We enjoy going for something special and different then the normal.

Took my wife for a quick get away. Very well worth the trip. Staff super friendly and helpful rooms and castle absolutely beautiful and comfortable. Chef Chris cooked our dinner to perfection and Chef Francois made our breakfast and I have to say hands down best omelets and croissant. We arrived and from the start we were immediately beginning to relax. This is a must stay and enjoy. Can’t wait to go back.

We so enjoyed our stay at Henderson Castle. Beautiful and so rich in history. We took the grounds tour very nice. The wine tasting was so fun with Matt. We were all friends at the end of the tasting!! We stayed in the Vineyard room with nice view. We didn't have full dinner (I wish we had planned for that) but had appetizers and glass of wine. So delicious. We highly recommend this unique experience.

Loved our stay! Historic and beautiful mansion with wonderfully decorated rooms! The view from the rooftop is spectacular!! The staff was super friendly amd helpful. The bed was quite comfortable. We had a large room with a sitting area and bathroom with whirlpool tub and shower. The Italian room is one of the larger rooms so if you want more space, this is a great option! Would definitely stay here again!

I love historic homes and this one is a gem. Absolutely beautiful in every way. Except for the owner/manager of this hotel Rooms are not well maintained. We had four rooms in our party so I looked at all of them. Bed linen was from the 1980’s. All of the rooms. Dirty and grungy looking. Single towel per person. Decor from the 80’s. Do not expect a lot from tho hotel. We booked with the hotel, $275. Other sites had rooms listed at $110. Go elsewhere

The staff was accommodating and kind. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Service was a little slow but that’s how BNBs usually work. Our room was clean. Pack your patience - it’s not a bustling hotel vibe - but it added to the experience for us. We are always go, go, go but it was nice to slow down. We made so many connections with other guests. We attended the murder mystery dinner on Friday and that was fun! We received an incredible massage on Sunday morning and used the sauna. The spa facilities were very clean.

Henderson Castle is a unique bed and breakfast. It was very clean and all the rooms have their own unique theme.. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable especially Louis G the butler. Louis told us allot about the castle's history and helped us locate the rooftop hot tube, which we and a couple of other friends enjoyed even on a cold day in November. It was very clean and well maintained. Thanks to our wonderful stay and Louis, we will be returning in the summer to enjoy the property once again, this time with a wine tasting of the Henderson Castle wine .Thank you once again Louis, Ken & Patty N

Had a rough time getting a room through a booking service that charged me for 2 rooms. But upon arriving to the Henderson Castle, the staff were very understanding and helpful in clearing things up and refunding the unneeded room and serviced me with a complimentary glass of delicious Riesling for the troubles! The staff are very knowledgeable, kind and informative. The history, architecture and art are also amazing for those vintage/antique lovers!

Had Afternoon Tea this past Sunday with my friend Edward! We had a wonderful time!! Excellent chocolate cake and very good cucumber sandwiches. Grace waited on us, and was an absolute delight! We are planning to stay overnight this Fall, and Grace showed us the various rooms to choose from. They are all unique, and it will be a difficult choice when the time comes! I loved them all! Definitely worth a visit!! Thank you to everyone for a terrific afternoon! -Bill

We came for a weekend getaway. Absolutely amazing staff and food. So many things to enjoy that we didn't even need to leave the castle. (Dinner at the chophouse, brunch, wine tasting, spa, and multiple hot tubs). The staff are very friendly and care about every guest having the best experience. John, Matt, and Maggie provided the best service and were very welcoming.

Was here for a wedding! Great atmosphere and the staff were awesome. It's a large enough place that you can find a private area for breakfast or to just relax as well, I really enjoyed the front porch. The roof offers a great view of Kalamazoo!

It was a cool place to stay but more of a "something to do once" type thing. It was overrated and overpriced for what you get. Then they want you to add on spas and dinners that were really expensive (we did not eat dinner there or do events or add ons). We got the Italian room. Ours was big but we were able to peek into another room that was open and it was very small. We had adequate heat but other guests were talking about being too hot or cold. I think the way they split up the rooms just didn't work out well with size and heat distribution. Like the radiator was in the bathroom and that was most of our heat. I get that the place was super old but it needed some TLC. There was drywall patched but not painted over, caulk that looked like a kid did it on the tub, etc. The biggest part of why I rated my review a 3 star, is that the jets in our tub didn't work and the breakfast is awful. Even though it's a bed and breakfast, all you get free is a Continental. And I know that's just some cold stuff but the problem was it was so tiny! I wish we had slept in instead. The place was dog friendly though which is super cool. There's a lot in the area that is also dog friendly.

Not quite Ready for prime time, but they worked hard to make it an enjoyable experience at the Upjohn House. It was our anniversary. They provided a Bottle of champagne and a beautiful rose. However, it was a surprise not to have an on-suite bathroom. There was confusion as to whether the bathroom we were to use could also be used by others renting other rooms. We were told it was only ours, but we learned It had also been communicated that other guests could use that bathroom as well. Just be aware it is not quite up to the standards of a normal bed and breakfast expectation where having water in the room and other amenities is quite normal. However, our room was decorated beautifully. The breakfast is quite minimal. Coffee consisted of only regular coffee and no decaf for evening or morning and the food consisted of a roll, a very small amount of yogurt, and a very small amount of fruit. The dinner at the Castle was Very good.

Awesome customer service even for being short handed! We weren't sure if they were full of it when they said the jets on the hot tub didn't come on because it only comes on when it needs to heat up... That's the first that I've heard of a hot tube performing that way. We still enjoyed the warm water on the roof top with the beautiful breeze and sun shine! The couples massage was relaxing and joyful!

The Henderson Castle was exactly what my husband and I were looking for to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. To start, Ariana the front desk receptionist was super personable and accommodating. She has friendly and had such great energy. Matt (front of house manager) kept checking to ensure everything was good. He was great to talk to and knew so much about the history of the castle. Alexander was our server for dinner and he was fun and energetic. His personality matched with the service.

Go to Henderson Castle for a one-of-a-kind experience. The castle itself is beautiful, and very old. The grounds are gorgeous as wells this place is definitely a piece of history. Very close to downtown Kalamazoo- walkable if you are s person that enjoys walking (about a mile) as well as the WMU Campus. My husband and I had a pleasant enough stay. If you’re looking for a 4 star hotel or dining experience, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for a very interesting and unique experience- and would like to come home with a story to tell, then this place is right up your alley, and you must. Over all we liked the place itself, and will come back again for sure. The two negatives I have One- the bed was waaaay too soft and as a result I did not have restful sleep. Two, we constantly felt like we were trying to be sold something .

I’m going to get right to it without beating around the bush. This place is a 100% complete scam. My fiancé booked a night away for my 35th birthday and even though everything was a complete disaster after enduring so much, we just decided to laugh it off. We still joke about it to this day. Their website is completely false and misleading. Everything in the over 100 year old house is broken. The hot tub, the pool, the showers in the bedrooms, and the food was atrocious. I’m not even a good cook and I could’ve done better. Don’t even get me started on the “bed and breakfast” that never even showed up to our door in the morning that he paid extra for. During dinner we waited 1 1/2 hrs for our salad and soup. Our soup was supposed to be the lobster bisque that they advertised but that ended up being the same thing that they gave us for our salad dressing. I have never seen or tasted, a lobster bisque like that. We spent 3 hours waiting for our food with one other couple that were also staying at the castle. They were pissed and disappointed as well. We asked if they could just box everything up so we could make the best of the rest of the night (or what was left of it). We paid some good money for the food and we didn’t even end up eating it. It just irritates me that they are taking hundreds of dollars from people that are expecting a special time, and making it a nightmare. Better yet, when you complain they really could care less. They always say that the owner is out of town and that they will get in contact with him, but nothing ever comes of it. They are just here to take your money. A rumor from one of the employees that was trying to help us was that the owner was out of the country “detoxing.” Maybe he will come back and make things better. Bottom line is that this place needs some serious attention and that they need stop false advertising everything! It was a Henderson nightmare.

We thought we were going to a really beautiful and upscaled B&B. Instead we found the room that we reserved months ahead had been cancelled! By who we never found out. The 3 other rooms available for an outlandish price were horrible. They were like Heidi’s attic from the movie Heidi! Needless to say we just left in search of any other place. Very disappointing! Would never recommend this dump!
