Edited review:- I was giving this place a 5 star review last year (2022) but today I am so disappointed ! There are a lot of things have been changed since then. On the second of May 2023 my second child is born and after the C section and all of that, and weā€™re in our room now we needed help with the baby and the Mom like they used to do in 2022, but no body was showing up, I asked for a documents so I can give it to my employer but they keep ignoring me for the whole day, plus. I know the hospital is paying these nurses but still the worst service ever. When it comes to leave the hospital and discharge they continued ignoring us, We feel like weā€™re prisoners until this moment . 0 out 5.

I barely saw the same doctor twice during my pregnancy. I had no idea who my main doctor was. The most upsetting part was my labor. I came in after my water broke. I was told that I would need to deliver soon you know within the 24 hours. They said I needed pitocin which is initially the very thing I didn't want to take but they said I had low fluid. So if I was going to take the pitocin I wanted an epidural. The first anesthesiologist swore up and down that she had placed the needle right. My contractions became very painful painful to the point where I started almost passing out from the pain in between and they kept reassuring me that my epidural was working and trying different things with it nothing was working. I kept begging for a C-section cuz I have stayed 5 cm for about 8 hours and I could feel the baby pushing and not making progress. Long story short I ended up with a second epidural, and infection, and preeclampsia within in a week of leaving the hospital after them telling me the swelling was normal. Some of this I'm starting to believe is racially motivated not even purposefully but the biases are definitely there. No one believe me about the pain. No one listen to me about the C-section which I ended up having an emergency one, and they didn't put her father's name on the certificate which I fully don't understand. The lady was so impatient she didn't explain everything.I'm highly disappointed. But I have a healthy beautiful baby daughter and I'm still alive so thanks for that. And this isn't even half of it.

One of the worst hospital you can go to! Donā€™t waste your time here. My nephew was born and they did not let anyone of us see him. They said only the husband is allowed in the room. The security and the front desk staff were so rude to me and my family. They do not know how to talk to people properly. Please improve your services and train your employees to treat your patients and their family member better.

Great hospital, everyone here is so nice. I had to do a last minute emergency c-section and they were with me every step of the way as this was my first child. And a big shoutout to the nurses; every nurse here is super nice and patient with the mothers here. I can say with confidence that this hospital is the best ideal place for a mother and the delivery of her baby. On top of all that my midwife Mary Lewis is associated with them and DMC and is the best most gentle and compassionate person ever. Iā€™m so thankful for everyone here and my midwife :)

So not waste your time with this hospital! Find another hospital. No one ever answers the phone, when they do the associates are rude and unhelpful. I gave birth here a month ago and the past 6 months have been nothing but headaches. I really wish I would have chosen a different hospital. Please do yourself a favor and do not get care here! UPDATE 4/25/23: itā€™s been almost 10 weeks and I still havenā€™t received my childā€™s birth certificate or SSN. When I called to ask I got transferred to 3 different departments only to finally come to an answering machine. At this point my newborn child will be kicked off my insurance. This has been a horrific experience from start to finish. Please do not give birth at this hospital. Since writing the first review I was contacted by HR once. While they did satisfy my request, it was like pulling teeth. This situation with the birth certificate though is completely unacceptable. I will 100% be contacting the press or something. Read the article about the mother that died in their care last year. Very eye opening!

I had an ultrasound on 2/7/22 and the neglected to tell me then and before when I made my appointment that they did not have the supplies to give me my picturesā€¦. They didnā€™t even tell me the day I was serviced and this is my first child. Then proceeded to tell me theyā€™ve been out since before Christmasā€¦. Why you ainā€™t say nothing lady?! Itā€™s FEBRUARY! No estimate on when theyā€™ll have itā€¦ nothingā€¦ I wasnā€™t even having my delivery here and now I see why. Just ghetto.

If I can give no stars I would worst place to have a baby if your staying longer that a week. Nurses was very lazy and rude. High risk team donā€™t know what theyā€™re doing instead of telling you they donā€™t. They ran multiple tests and tried to do unnecessary things just to run my bill up they say care but really do not. I was in one room for 2 months because my water broke early and I asked Everytime could I go outside my room for air they literally said ok we can make it happen but nothing ever happened. It took for me to have multiple seizures just for them to do a c section on me when at first I got there thatā€™s what they told me was the plan but ended up switching because my insurance cut off. They tried to be slick n not Tellme that that was the reason they were trying to have me push because pushing is cheaper than a c section. I had old food delivered to me from the food court and not cooked food all the way because the people just donā€™t care. Worst place to stay long at if your pregnant or anything else .

I had wonderful experience here! Everyone was so nice and polite. The nurses and doctors made me for so comfortable. I gave birth to my first child here and Iā€™m glad I chose this hospital to give birth. My baby had to go to NICU and the nurses did a wonderful job caring for my little girl. They also were very comforting. They made sure that I was okay and answer every question I had. Now my little girl is home and perfectly fine! I recommend Hutzel to my sister and she had a wonderful experience as well when giving birth to my beautiful niece.

I took me nearly six months to write this review because even though I had such a horrible experience at this hospital my intension has never been to harm anyone. I gave birth to my second child on September 5th, 2022 and so far this has been the most traumatic experience I have ever had. I was dilating super fast, so according to one the staff, who never introduced herself, there was not time for epidural. I was in such an extreme amount pain that I started screaming and moving a lots and what was their response? to yelled back to me and have a person pulling each of my legs during the delivery which caused a separation of my pubic bone. This led to even more pain after giving birth and having to go to physical therapy for months afterwards. Itā€™s been almost six months I still havenā€™t fully recovered from it. Additionally, during my stay most nurses were rude and careless. I was also discharged on the next day even though I told them numerous times that I couldnā€™t even go to the bathroom on my own because of the extreme pain I had due to a delivery and pubic bone separation. Also, I requested to see a lactation consultant twice and she never showed up. Iā€™m so grateful to the Lord because my baby and I are okay. However, Iā€™m not looking forward to going back to this hospital and now Iā€™m making sure none of my loved ones do either. Whatā€™s even more sad if that after my experience I found out that two of my momā€™s friends had horrible delivery experiences there as well in a twenty year gap.

Ruined my first birth experience. I had such a traumatic horrible experience at this hospital giving birth to my first child. Not only did they legit nearly kill me they neglected my baby in the nick you and he suffered because of it. DO NOT give birth here let alone seek any medical treatment. I donā€™t even know where to start with my experience here just please take my word for it

I seek the attention of the higher department who can make sure the staff at the hospital are taking pregnant women seriously, behaving and taking care of them to the best of their abilities, which is not experienced by most patients at this hospital. Why should it be this way? Every patient deserves respect and care here when they need it the most. Please, please, please work on this hospitalā€¦šŸ™

Recently gave birth at Hutzel. The two stars are to my amazing nurses Lexi, Shannon, and I believe Nicole (not totally sure). I was scheduled to be induced on Monday. There was a bit of a wait due to no available beds however, that was fine. Issues presented itself when the IV bag machine wouldnā€™t stop going off during the duration of my stay, unclear directions on my progress by residents and midwives, and inexperience. Thankfully by day 4, I made my own decision to go with a C section. I am then moved to postnatal the experience just went down hill. I never received lactation consulting even after requesting it 3 times. Walgreens prematurely makes you pay for rx even though youā€™re still in the hospital. No assistance or help with skin to skin. Not a positive experience for a new mother and expected better from a womenā€™s hospital.

This hospital is by far the worstā€” never experienced such horrible treatment and service I have ever seen or experienced in my life. Not only was there a rare complication during a cessation section that required a second operation, the treatment and communication between medical staff and patients and their families is honestly the worst. NICU and maternal units both are horrible, one nurse was asleep at her desk. I had to wait more than 15 minutes to be let into the unit. Nursing staff donā€™t know what they are doing, medical students have no idea what they are saying, doctors are unorganised and not aligned. Everything sucks here, and everyoneā€™s attitudes are poor. One doctor, Dr. Taylor didnā€™t know how to use the hospital blood pressure machine. Mom was discharged and said ā€œi donā€™t have to know how to use it because Iā€™m a general surgeonā€ then had to wait 2 hours for baby to be discharged. No alignment or communication between units or staff! Literally probably one of the worst hospitals in the state. Stay far away!! Also overheard a NICU nurse talking about me complaining about the hospital. Yes, it is the worst. I will make sure to name all people in a formal complaint. These people are horribly trained.

They have terrible service in the emergency room and are low staffed. I waited in the lobby for a wheelchair with a swollen leg for an hour and a half. A pregnant woman in pain came right after me waiting on a wheelchair for 30 MINS. After going in for vitals I saw something on the floor along with a small trail of blood. The woman that gave me my vitals was supposed to be working at the front desk. Furthermore, she was unprofessional and unprepared. While being in the curtain rooms, I hear other patients asking about their wounds, why thereā€™s an abnormal smell, others asking where is the doctor after an hour wait of calling for them, etc. The doctors donā€™t seem to care. Let me correct myselfā€¦ they donā€™t take BLACK PEOPLE SERIOUSLY! Another issue I noticed was the rooms had stuff on the floor and wrappers from previous patients. Nothing will be sanitized or cleaned up except the beds. Yes they do bed changing but all the sheets have stains and God knows from where or from who. I have a serious condition and they said if I have shortness of breath then itā€™s a problem and I would need to press the emergency button. I tested the theory, pressed the button TWICE and no sight of a doctor till after 2 hours. I couldā€™ve died waiting on them. Multiple people couldā€™ve died sitting there and waiting and waiting. I donā€™t recommend but if you want to explore and have your own experience, go ahead. But itā€™s a never again for me.

First time ever looking up the hospital where I was born 2 months premature in 1976. Stayed in the hospital over a month before being able to go home. Then my mom moved me to Alabama before I turned 5. So this is my first time really seeing what the hospital looks like. Thanks to all the staff that took care of me and my mom 46 years ago and those that continue to help people daily.

I hope someone Reads this review, my first birth experience ruined I went to this hospital received not so good service. I went in to have my child due to preeclampsia complications. It wasnā€™t the greatest service from the doctors but at least they came to talk to me and apologize for the terrible service and experience my husband and I received. what really made it worse was they lost my wedding ring and a bracelet! I have yet to really receive an answer on where my items are, but Iā€™ve gotten multiple stories on which Nurse miss placed it. Iā€™m hoping that they make it right but I have yet to receive any compensation or answers.

My cousin just had her baby here and me being a post-partum nurse Iam horrified and upset of the experience she has been through! From having no LD rn to recover after her C-section and them giving her a rn that didnā€™t even know how to recover her. From her not being able to see her baby for 5 hours after her baby was born due to poor communication and her not having a room (still stuck in post op waiting). Mind you she lost a lot of blood during surgery hgb dropped from a 10 to 7 and god forbid if she would have bled out how this inexperienced RN would have known. Like thank God the angels were watching over them. This hospital needs to get their act together because yal are putting these mothers and babies at risk!!!! Shame on you CEOā€™s , directors and managers, and whoever else has a hand in this debacle!!!!! Itā€™s like having a baby in a 3 rd world country !!!! Run and donā€™t have your baby here pls donā€™t !!!!!!!! Go to a Beaumont or Henry Ford facility !!!!!

I had such a great experience when I went in to be induced. They were a bit more strict with visitations/visitors because of COVID, but that was to be expected. From the time I was admitted & got into my room, my nurse Angelica(I hope that's how her name is spelled) was the best! She was more than patient. She made sure she explained everything that was going on or going to happen and made sure I was comfortable. I had to have a balloon catheter inserted to help me dilate and that was uncomfortable enough, but Angelica was right there holding my hand & coaching me through it while the doc inserted it. Angelica wasn't my nurse when I delivered, but even my nurse that was in with me during delivery(sorry, I forgot her name) was awesome! I know some of the reviews complained about the nurses having bad attitudes and what not, but the nurses during my time were phenomenal

I recently delivered my daughter here on 5.12.2023. Let me HONEST the hospital has changed drastically compared to when I had my first child back during the pandemic. Labor was already tuff for me because I came through emergency already dilated and in PAIN. Some staff was rude & some of them were kind S/O to the nurse Lativia and the sweet little lady with the moles on her canā€™t remember her name but she helped me through my pain & delivered my daughter. The hospital was overwhelmed with the baby boom. I didnā€™t get a room till day 2 which they were trying to rush me outta there. Didnā€™t really eat because they basically just bring you what they feel like. I pray that the hospitals take patients more serious again cause my experience couldā€™ve been better ā¤ļøšŸ„ŗ

Horrible, racist security guard worling today in the morning. I was told i would not be able to visit until 8am (i arrived 7:35am) and multiple people came after me were allowed to go and visit who they came for. I wasnt even allowed to wait in the lobby had to sit by the main door. To the hutzel hospital team, i dont need a reply i need you to spend yiur time better on training who you hire.

They really don't deserve no star. If this is suppose to be a women's hospital they surely don't treat women with no type of respect. This comment is strictly towards the emergency staff. They don't have a care in the world what type of pain level you are at. They have nasty attitudes and they don't even check on you. They'll see you constantly in pain and keep walking right past you. You should not have to go through this at a hospital.

They did my circumcision accurately 34 years ago, I was born here in December of 88, born and raised, here in the city, I later moved to Cali, in 2004, graduating college, I moved back to the eastcoast, NOT DETROIT. I love my city, and all is flaws, you can make it anywhere if you can make it here, NOT CALI, everyone including the kids need a job there.

So rude stuff and doctors, they let my 9 months pregnant wife walk by herself to downstairs from 4th floor without wheelchair. My wife did not have a phone on her they did not allow her to give me a call And the security did not let me go inside. I would not recommend any of my family or relatives. I would rate 0 if possible.

If I could give them zero stars I would. Had my baby here in 2019 worst hospital ever staff is rude unclean, uninviting, and just plain disrespectful. Iā€™ll never forget my nurse Kim K because of her they messed up my epidural resulting in injury. They took my son and put him in Nicu saying he had fever. He never had a fever they pumped him with god knows what. I had to walk 2 floors down every 2-3 hours for feeding it would take me 30 minutes every trip. When I specifically told them I want my son to be breastfed they gave him a bottle behind my back. I couldnā€™t make milk anymore because of this. Every time I would go to the Nicu the staff would be on their phones not watching the babies. I even seen a premature baby not properly strapped in a swing, he flipped somehow on his stomach he was crying so bad but his cryā€™s were muffled because his face was flat in the swing and he was about to fall out of the swing. If my husband wouldnā€™t have stepped in to pick up that child who knows what would have happened. Yes I did talk to management but they didnā€™t care. WORST AND NASTIEST HOSPITAL DONā€™T GO HERE AT ALL COST
