I am a Registered Nurse. About 8 years ago I spent one month working at Kingswood. Mod C. My colleagues enjoyed belittling me. They yelled at the patients. They were so uncaring. It was a horrible experience. I was shocked by their behavior. Hostile. Rude. Warped. One nurse (My "preceptor.") yelled at me in the hallway because I spilled a few drops of water on the floor. She told me to wipe it up. On my hands and knees. As if I was her personal servant. It was one of the most humiliating experiences in my life. I worked in a Medical ICU for most of my career. We were a team. Professional. Caring. I have been an RN since 1988. Never did I experience anything like I did at Kingswood. These Mod C nurses were bizarre. Each one had oddities. How else to put it? Gaslighting. They never helped the patients. That was the worst month of my life. Do not work there. Absolutely do not allow a family member to be admitted to Kingswood. I never would have thought that nurses could behave this way.

Worst experience I’ve ever had. I’m not talking about the situation I’m talking about the experience at this facility. The faculty was horrible very unprofessional and lack of empathy for the patient. The building was run down I had no hot water for 6 days in the middle of winter despite telling the staff. The temperature in the building was so cold I needed 5 blankets on my bed to stay warm. There were toilet paper balls all over the ceiling 56 in my room to be exact! ( I counted) I didn’t get my medication for 48 hours. So I was in withdrawals on top of a mental health crisis. The nurses acted as if the patients were wasting their time, they were very rude and acted annoyed . It felt very unsafe and not therapeutic at all. No counseling, groups consist of coloring books. It felt more like the county jail than a mental health facility. The food was inedible cold, hard, old just awful in every way possible. This place is the very worst ! Stay away from this place.

Was assaulted by two staff and shot up with drugs prior to them getting a court order for treatment. HIPPA violations too. Nothing was done about two different patients assaulting me physically... Keyon and Jake, two techs, even at one point choked me while the nurse gave me a shot... Jake pressed his thumb into my neck. Recipient rights officer wouldn't let me file a complaint.

Thank you for saving my life :) Doctor Husaine(? Cannot spell but he was very tall and from Lebanon. We thought he was scary at first but he’s actually super sweet and he wears those maroon scrubs) was amazing, as well as all of the social workers and therapists there. I met amazing people as well!! I was there a few years ago for treatment for PTSD, and they accommodated me super well. All these negative reviews genuinely upset me after the help I was given. I know no two peoples experience is ever the same, but it’s odd when everyone I know loved Kingswood as well :/

I was sent here when I had just turned the age required to put in with the rest of adolescents. I believe 13-17. I had gone for self harm and suicidal ideation, I was 13 wanting to take my own life, I couldn’t be left alone. I was told I was fine and didn’t need any help. The staff didn’t seem to enjoy being there as well, find a different job if you can’t treat these patients kindly and with respect!

I had the privilege to begin healing here in March of 2023. The staff is amazing, the food is excellent. This is a good place to be to receive the kinda help you need to get your mind right again. They have activities planned throughout the day. You will meet some great people there, interesting ones also, lol. There is a structure that you will figure out eventually when you’re ready and able and there's good organization with medication and communication with your doctors. Overall, looking back, it was a great experience. Thank-you Kingswood for the services that you provided. You’re a treasure of the area and I hope you keep it up! Please have a great 2024 year!

The Dr’s, social workers and therapist at Kingswood SAVED MY LIFE. I will forever be grateful and hold this place close to my heart. I suffered with Major depressive disorder and severe anxiety, still do but they picked me up when absolutely no one else could and set me up with lots of info on where to go once I left there. They are all very caring and attentive to your needs. Some of the CNA’s lacked compassion for patients but other than that I cant complain about this great hospital.

Currently on hold because an EXTREMELY rude woman named Sharon who refused to give her last name, badge number or any form of identifier who worked on August 12th around 9:30pm was being so disrespectful to both myself and my mother when I called as a former patient, who was suicidal, needing assistance getting my meds. She was EXTREMELY dismissive, inconsiderate, blunt, and rude for literally no reason. Now God forbid I took my life she would have to live with that. My concerned mother had to join the call to RESPECTFULLY get assistance and Sharon blatantly did not care and made it seem like we were bothering her. I understand that prescriptions are out of her very low level of expertise, but a GOOD WORKER and a concerned employee would at least provide info or point me in the direction of someone who could help. After we informed her that my mother is a health care compliance officer and demanded to speak with someone on a higher level who could be of better assistance, she put us on hold for about 5 minutes then hung up. We called back and she has refused to answer, keeping us on hold for an additional 20 minutes. Half way through the conversation once we became appalled by her poor customer service I began recording this conversation on my phone and would be happy to share it with your management or HR department. As someone who suffers from severe depression and anxiety I am disgusted that you guys would have such an inconsiderate person working in this type of facility.

My 16 year old niece was transferred here yesterday from William Beaumont in Royal Oak and from the moment we walked in this facility we were really impressed and how nice it looked and how amazing, caring and kind the entire staff is! My niece was really scared as were my sister and I just because of the situation but they all made all of us feel comfortable and like we had nothing to worry about! We are confident that my niece will get the care that she needs to get better so she can come home to her family! So thank you to the entire staff for being so kind, caring and understanding :) I would recommend this facility to anyone who has a family member struggling with depression and other issues!

Almost the last 2 years I was in that hospital back in December of 2021 I went a whole month without eating anything cause the anxiety I keep getting everytime and everyday I couldn't describe what was wrong with me until I found out last year but let me give you the real rate about how I feel about being up in there, It was too cold so I had to sit at the sun when I was there to get warm like a 2 set of blankets is going to do the trick, No the hell it's not. I don't recommend hospitals like this again. But some of the nurses were ok and good but coming down to the red velvet don't get on my badside cause you don't want me for an enemy unless I come back and start screeching my silence!!!

The worse hospital ever. My son went there 3 times and everyday the staff including the doctors were calling us asking us what we should do about our mentally ill son. They allow violence to go on as well.

There are no order of operations within this facility Looks like mental health help May be needed for staff and they need money to train them better on people skills Also As a social worker And having a family member in a facility there’s no way to get an update on him Lady on phone said that she can give him my number and he can call but how can he call me if he’s incapable of talking mentally

Terrible experience. The rules are inconsistent every day. The staff obviously does not get paid enough or they would care about their work and the patients more. Complete lack of communication between staff and parents. Do better for your city of Detroit, Kingswood.

Staff was nice but that was about it. They had one decent psychiatrist that actually listened. They didn’t help my daughter at all, only made her worse. Released her unstable and now she’s right back in the hospital. I would avoid this place if you can.

Had a great experience (kinda) :) self care is what everyone needs a time and again. I was depressed and sad after losing my mom to cancer at the young age of 60, I went in not knowing what to expect, after my body went into septic shock after a bad UTI infection (embarrassing)! The staff was so welcoming and friendly! I recommend taking time for yourself and to just self reflect! On a side note the staff is doing their best to help heal the wounded. If you come in please be respectful of others and treat them with kindness! Thank you kindly staff!! Much appreciated and I O U all a coffee….. ;) LetsMakeAmericaWellAgain! 🙏 As for the condition of the facility…….. that’s a whole other story! Wow, Henry Ford really dropped the ball on this one! The doctors? The cleanliness? The treatment of humans? I’m disgusted! Tried getting ahold of a doctor that was assigned to me!?!? Where are you? Why are you billing me for billing my insurance for 9 days when I stayed 3??? Huh? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they billed me under the wrong diagnosis! 0 stars ✨So glad I have a great primary doctor who caught all this and put me on the proper antibiotics!!! Scary 😟 Jail? Or Hospital??? #MentalHealthAwareness

Yeah, about this particular place I have a good friend currently up there and she has given permission for her social worker and or other staff to speak to me about her care well I left a message for her social worker yesterday at about 9:20 AM and my friend even told her to give me a call here we are 4:12 pm the next day and she hasn't even called me back to address the concerns that I have about what my friend has been being told. Plus and I'm not sureon other MoDs up there but on the one she is on. There is only one phone for patients to use and or their family's to call them on. And according to the staff member I spoke with there is a bunch of parents on that mod yeah so far I wouldn't put my worst enemy in that facility.

My experience here was great. I stayed here in February and the staff was great. The music therapist and art therapist were amazing and really helped me if I was having a bad day. Staff there actually would take time to get to know you and they taught me valuable lessons that I still remember and teach people. The day room was also my favorite part because they would actually let you watch stuff like Disney and Cartoon Network (at the other hospitals I stayed at they wouldn’t let you watch tv). They have a phone and allow you to call anyone you want. I recommend this hospital to anyone who lives in around Detroit and Pontiac. and thank you to the music therapist who helped me tie my beaded bracelets (I made like 30+ bracelets 😓)

so if my review gets deleted again i’m just gonna keep reposting lol. my stays were in 2021. admitted twice back to back. the second time i was admitted i was put in the mod with high risk patients that i couldn’t relate with on their level at all. it took 3 days to get transferred to the mod i was in previously. one i was in the lower level mod, one of the nights, i took a long shower after not doing so for a week. it had been an hour. i got reprimanded because my roommate was scared that i was singing to myself. a huge woman came in yelling and i kept saying i’m not done. it got to the point where i raised my voice loud to say “i’m washing my bleep” and she grabbed me by my arm naked out of the shower. then proceeded to say you’re taking THREE of the meds i was forced to take. and threatened me with shots on top of that. this is no exaggeration. i never took more than one after that. abuse of power. not to mention, the medication i was prescribed was not for my condition at all. once i read the user info, i was infuriated. they then made me go on lithium and tried to scare me by staying if i went off them i’d end up back there. lithium made me feel like i was tripping on hallucinogens. and end up making me suicidal. geniuses i was the only one that didn’t have a monitor on for 90% of my stay. my roommate asked why i was taken out of my room one night. the best part? they were fixing the cameras :) so the cameras didn’t work for a portion as well. this is just weird; one night, with staff present at the front desk, a chair aggressively flipped over. no one said a PEEP. after that, i went in my room to find something and all these papers flew over on my desk in front of me to show what i was looking for. my roommate was in the room, she didn’t seem phased at all. so so weird. also, doctors surnames and first names would change. right before i left and all the ppl were cleared out from my first day, the doctors on the boards name changed . beyond shady the cherry on top? my stop got “lost” aka stolen . i had stuff in a safe and it just disappeared ? then the management changed so their was little i could do. have funn, every participant, w your karma !

My stay here wasn't quite as nice as other in-patient stays I have had in my life, however the staff was willing to listen and understood the needs of every patient. I must add, a small fire caused by a fellow patient broke out, and the hospital and staff handled the situation as best they could without anyone getting injured. Would recommend to anyone seeking or in need of help.

My fiancé was petitioned to kingwood and had the worst experience of his life. He was deathly ill for his 10 day stay and received nothing but 4 blood tests and no medicine to help. This same illness put me in the emergency room and on steroids. On top of that, he had a virtual court date that no one allowed him to attend, and in court falsely claimed he elected not to participate. Would never recommend to send your loved ones to this hospital.

Workers today in psych mod a, Wendella, stole my rx Oakley sunglasses. Refuse to answer my calls. Hung up on repeatedly. These workers are thieves and liars. During my stay, I received subpar care. This hospital is a fake. No staff, doctor, or social worker does anything helpful. Terrible place with society's lowest as staff.

My mom admitted herself here at Kingswood. She said she loved it, staff was kind and respectful, she said everytime she looked up it was lunch time lol and she was resp for only herself and she really needed that. I'm actually considering admitting myself as I am currently experiencing depression and grief. Thank you Kingswood for your care for my mom🙏

I went here two times when I was a teenager great food, staff, and other stuff the only problem I had was they put me on meds that eventually made me suicidal which wasn't there fault because meds are a pain thing to deal with and I didn't have the side effects til I got out I returned after a month of being out and they were able to get me on the right meds I really loved it there

Great staff!!! I was here in 2019 & they were great! Especially the lady who admitted me I can’t remember her name but she was like the officer and she was in the basement area I believe…. We shared similar stories & she understood everything. She told me if I ever needed to come back to do so. All the nurses & social workers was EXCELLENT!

Better than the other 3 mental hospitals I stayed at in Michigan. Staff is friendly, show they care about patients, food is good . They make sure you're not bored and you get plenty of groups through the day. Dbt is very helpful and they teach that thoroughly. I was admitted to Kingswood at age 16. Never been in a hospital before. They made me feel safe. Since then I've been back a few times . Never a bad experience.

When I was here at the age of 14 for suicidal attempts the nurses and staff in the morning were nice but the staff at night were rude. They used to give us medicine at night for our last dosage and the medicine they gave me used to give me nightmares really bad and when I told them they wouldn’t care. When I was released from there I was having withdrawals from whatever they were giving me and ended up in the hospital. When I returned in 2017 the doctors ran blood tests on me to see if I was pregnant but never told me my results and still gave me a lot of pills to take. When I got released 2 weeks later I found out I was pregnant the just never told me even though they were still giving me the pills.

i went and was in the adolecent program. it was hell. it tramatized me and i would have gotten more help upping my meds. all i did was color, play in the gym, and talk to my parents/boyfriend. my mom asked to come get me tuesday, my 5th day in the hospital, and asked the nurse if she could take me home. the nurse said that there was no was i could leave the hospital that night and that the decision was all up to the social workers. then my social worker said that the nurse was wrong and when i get out was all up to my nurses and behavioral therapists when i asked her. also asked not to be left alone with 9 year old patient because he was asking me to have sex with him and they literally left us alone the next day. also got blood drawn at the beginning of my stay and the nurse that got called up from a different floor because she was “sooo good” poked me 5 times and only got blood flow from one poke, the 3rd. not a good hospital from a first point of view.
