When
I
think
of
Crossfit
8
Mile
and
its
Barbell
Club,
one
word
immediately
comes
to
mind:
excellence.
If
I
were
granted
a
magic
wish
and
could
bring
my
dream
athletic
facility
into
existence,
it
wouldn’t
look
very
different
from
Crossfit
8
Mile.
Ideal
not
only
for
me,
but
for
my
athletically
ambitious
younger
brother
as
well
as
my
aging
grandparents.
Here’s
why:
The
facility
itself
is
perhaps
the
best
I’ve
seen.
It’s
clean,
stylized,
and
stocked
with
enough
equipment
to
make
even
elite
athletes
giddy.
It’s
overwhelmingly
clear
that
Nick’s
pride
of
ownership
carries
through
into
every
detail.
That
said,
it’s
not
just
a
facility-
it’s
a
place
of
serious
athleticism.
It’s
clear
that
Nick
and
the
other
coaches
LOVE
what
they
do.
They’re
serious
athletes
themselves
and
they’re
always
encouraging
and
helping
members
to
better
themselves.
In
my
own
case,
I’d
been
a
member
not
yet
a
week
before
Nick
helped
me
signup
for
a
weightlifting
meet
and
along
with
the
tireless
commitment
of
Coach
Josh,
he
proceeded
to
mentor
me
over
the
next
two
weeks
with
a
whirlwind
of
instruction,
preparation,
encouragement,
and
planning
as
I
prepared
for
the
competition.
Understand
that
I
had
minimal
prior
experience
and
that
a
typical
training
cycle
leading
up
to
a
competition
lasts
around
nine
weeks.
Two
weeks
later,
Coach
Josh
drove
across
the
entire
state
to
coach
me
through
the
competition
during
which
I
made
all
of
my
lifts
and
achieved
a
total
that
qualified
me
for
the
State
Championship.
I’m
confident
that
an
athlete
with
elite
aspirations
in
Crossfit,
Weightlifting,
Powerlifting,
or
Strongman
would
find
everything
they
need
to
become
a
champion
at
Crossfit
8
Mile.
But
despite
being
a
place
of
serious
athleticism,
it’s
also
a
strong
and
wonderful
community
open
to
people
of
all
walks
of
life.
Within
days
of
signing
up,
I
was
being
approached
by
dozens
of
friendly
faces
welcoming
me
and
inviting
me
to
community
activities.
During
my
short
time
there,
I
felt
I’d
acquired
an
entirely
new
set
of
friends
and
was
touched
by
the
zeal
with
which
they
cheered
me
on
at
my
weightlifting
meet
as
if
we’d
been
longtime
friends.
I
should
note
that
I’ve
had
the
opportunity
to
visit
many
athletic
facilities
that
cater
to
both
elite
athletes
as
well
as
people
who
are
just
looking
to
get
in
shape.
In
my
experience,
a
divide
often
forms
between
the
two
groups
and
hangs
over
the
culture
of
the
gym.
The
elite
athletes
draw
a
majority
of
the
attention
from
the
coaches
and
everybody
else
gets
overlooked.
This
leads
to
cliques
within
the
gym
culture
in
which
friendliness
does
not
extend
outside
each
clique.
Not
so
for
Crossfit
8
Mile.
From
day
one,
it
was
clear
to
me
that
Crossfit
8
Mile
is
ONE
community
in
which
everybody
knows
and
supports
each
other,
be
they
an
older
mother
dealing
with
medical
challenges
or
a
young
athlete
prepping
for
high-level
competition.
In
short,
Crossfit
8
Mile
is
synonymous
with
excellence.
Nick,
Josh,
and
everybody
else
in
the
community,
thank
you!
