Very disappointed to hear about the poor treatment of your staff and the lack of care for the ongoing pandemic. Many WSU students, including myself, enjoyed the environment of your cafe for studying and meeting friends. It is incredibly sad that you will be losing much of that business. I sincerely hope this is a wake up call for the chain.

A very uninviting place for non white people. Terrible food, but great coffee. If only people of color weren't treated so badly by the employees. I personally was assumed to be a homeless person by the cashier for being brown and wearing a winter coat? This place is not good for Detroit or its citizens and it is my hope that they'll close their doors very soon and go somewhere else so they can stop ruining our city's culture. Also, who eats unsalted avocado? Terrible, terrible, place.

Lovely inside and seems like a nice place to get some work done, but serving size (a diner sized cup) for a decaf pour over (the only decaf they said they offer) is too small for the price ($3.71). Paid street parking or there's a parking structure behind the building. Nice wine selection as well.

One of the secret, pure delights hidden along Woodward AVE. This is a café that I would regularly visit on my weekends. I've enjoyed minutes to hours of conversation, studying, and writing while admiring the quaint esthetic that this shop has to offer. The interior has a bucolic vibe joined with a hipster, concert, after-show feel. The tables and floor are primarily made out of wood, but the walls are brick. Sitting in the room itself is calming, almost like drinking coffee in a window sill on a sun-lit morning. The Staff have always been kind to me. They are friendly and unafraid of questions and small conversations. My only complaint is that when they call out orders, I at times fail to hear them, and my drink will be sitting at the counter for quite some time, but this has only happened once or twice. I have had a little of everything in terms of their menu. Both their savory and sweet options are beyond delectable. Their sandwiches are large in portions and delicious. Their Coffee is rich and sweet. My personal favorite dessert will always be an affogato, but just about every option has been/will be enjoyable. The price is a bit high for the amount of coffee you receive, and I would even go as far as saying the food is in the same boat. I enjoy both non the less, and don't mind paying a bit more for the quality of food. I would advise the coffee lovers and the interior admirers of the Detroit area to come and visit The Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company. I would recommend this café for morning breakfasts, casual lunches, day-time dates, or simple alone time for studying/relaxing throughout the day.

Fantastic coffee every time I come here. The service is great, the coffee is great, and you can buy any coffee supplies or beans while you wait. The photo featured is the in-house vanilla latte.

Baristas are on point! They were kind and helpful, and even had suggestions cause I was so obviously new and overwhelmed. I even found myself chatting with the barista making my drinks while I was waiting, and that felt like it cu wait time in half! I honestly cannot wait to go back and have another perfectly made coffee, thank you!!

Always a good time and the staff are all sweet. I love how welcoming the vibe is and the Great Lakes coffee blends you can get on site that aren't in the stores. I especially love the Lavender Latte so good.

Stopped in recently for the first time and will be back here, too often. Grabbed a specialty toast, a version of caprese and enjoyed it very much. Had a great iced drink at the recommendation of the barista and took home a bag of this awesome holiday roast. Can't wait to go pack post Covid for an Friday of caffeine transitioning to a cold beer from the bar!

The drinks here are fantastic and not just the coffee. I'm talking their So Fresh, So Green cocktail, and the Final Ward being among my favorites. This place has great flexibility from a great studying spot during the day to a cozy date night in the evenings. It's also within walking distance to the DSO, museums and music venues.

Great Lakes is a fantastic spot for a rich pour over coffee, small plates, as well as beer and wine. There are always students studying here and professionals holding meetings. It’s a warm space with the hardwood floors and exposed brick. People are often using their laptops and there are quite a few wall outlets available if you plan on staying long.

First time coming here today. Love the location, warm and cozy, probably because of the interior. They didn't have my favorite drink white chocolate mocha (which is why I gave them 4/5 stars because that's a little unusual), so I got a dark chocolate one instead. The barista was super friendly, she took time describing what some of the other options are and didn't rush me even though there were a few customers coming in at that time. Really professional. The drink came out quite good. Definitely will come back.

Came here to get my Voting Day Detroit buisness crawl started, what better way than a cup of coffee and yes Baileys Irish Cream! (They have a liquor license, yes Gawd!) They offer a few different types of coffees at all times, a good lunch, light dinner menu but most of all an awesome laid back WiFi access atmosphere, which I love!

Fast service and delicious coffee is what you can expect when you come to Great Lakes Coffee. I stopped in there for an interview with a magazine editor and had a very enjoyable time. Great Lakes Coffee is a nice quiet atmosphere, even though the place was packed. The seats and stools are comfortable which let you enjoy your coffee even more. They have your standard fare coffee or espresso or latte and they also have some more specialized items to make a very unique experience. Not only do they have coffee but they also have sandwiches and other food items.

Place was crowded when we went. Lots of people on their laptops just getting work done. It’s funny that it’s not just a coffee shop. They serve food plus beer and alcohol. Coffee is alright. I got a chai latte which personally was a bit overpriced but guess that comes with the fancy designs on top of these coffees made by the baristas.
