The hostess with the blonde hair and arm tattoos had no idea how to do her job. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. She’s in LaLa land. We had to do her job for her. Ex: She was MIA for 30 minutes. Comes back in an aloof state and says oh there’s a list and proceeds to leave again. We then asked her what she’s doing and she says I don’t know. So we told her to seat us in order. Hence telling her how to do her job. I’m pretty positive she’s not sober at work today. That being said the Food was great.

Amazing breakfast and lunch sandwiches! I ate here 3 times on my 4 day trip to Detroit and I don’t regret it. The first bite of the Le Fantastique was so heavenly and honestly life changing. I will be chasing that feeling every time I look for a breakfast sandwich from now on.

If I haven't reviewed this before I don't understand why. I thoroughly enjoy this place when near Corktown. Their food is delicious and I love the atmosphere. Unfortunately because of COVID they aren't open inside but they are open for outdoor seating. That's what I did this last weekend. They have a "backyard" that has plenty of seating and they have fires going to stay warm by. They're special was grilled cheese with 🍅 basil soup and it was so perfect and warm and tasty. Big fat croutons that melted inside the soup. Amazing. They have a good beer selection as well and always friendly. One issue I had last year was I made a reservation for a large group and when we got their they didn't have it. But even then they accommodated us well. We had to wait a little longer because it was busy. So make sure they get your info. The outdoor seating is also perfect for summer time and it feels like a community. Go, go go to Mudgies!

Amazing little local sandwich place famous in Detroit. Their vegan options are nothing short of delicious.

Mudgie’s setup during the “pause” is outstanding! You order at the counter and then bring it into their patio if you want to dine in. There are numerous fires going to keep you warm. Everyone was friendly; our food was even brought out and dropped off to us. Bummer we can’t be inside, but better safe than sorry. Lots of drinks to choose from (like usual) and the grilled cheese & tomato soup on special was delectable. TLDR; great, safe accommodations with a substantial drink menu and delicious food specials. Before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Corned beef Ruben was delicious. The coffee was good. I recommend getting take out or sitting outside. It was a hot day and very warm inside. I don’t think they have adequate air conditioning. No table service. I mean they do bring you glasses of water and they do bring the food but you are required to order on the app. No menus are available. I asked and they said none because my daughter was my guest and she doesn’t have a smart phone. So, you order on the app and pay on the app. The inside of the restaurant is extremely plain and loud. It would be very difficult to carry on a conversation. We visited on a Thursday at 1:15. Again, the food was excellent. Oh how I pray that we aren’t going to have to order on apps all the time in al restaurants. I don’t dine in often but when I do I want an experience!!

Everything about this place is Detroit!! The food is one of a kind. But the atmosphere is definitely for everyone. I didn't even taste my sandwich and I was contemplating getting my husband to bring me back.

I really love the Honeybee Salad. I just wished the restaurant served it with like double dressing and salsa without having to ask. I also wish that the tortilla chips were a bit different. I'd love to see this with maybe blue chips to give it more visual interest, or even chickpea tortilla chips for a different flavor and for those who can't do corn. I love the flavors as is, but would love to see a bit of variation in what I previously mentioned, or at least consider it. Otherwise, always a great presentation of food.

Came here with my mother and promptly got seated outside. Quaint place with large wine selection. Menu compromises mostly of sandwiches separated by meat. All the food was delicious and staff was friendly and quick. Great place for dates or catching up with a fun atmosphere. The Turkey trot sandwich is amazing!

Mudgies hosted my grandaughter's wedding reception September 18. The City of Detroit granted permission for the closure of Brooklyn Street to accommodate a tent for the event. Very cordial owner provided excellent social distancing venue.

Absolutely fantastic. Had an hour wait but we waited outside by a fire and had great conversation with others that waited. S'mores and Champaign were brought out to make the wait barrable. Over and above what was expected. The food was amazing and the service fantastic. There was five of us and each dish was delicious. I'd absolutely recommend this place.

Delicious sandwiches, pickled hummus, dinks and open spaces. This place is great for a quick bit or a business meeting. Family friendly, social distancing and face mask are observed. Support local business in Detroit

Customer service top notch. Ordered take out: lobster roll, sho'nuff, and vegan tempeh Reuben. Once I got home realized they forgot the lobster roll. Owner was kind enough to add extra lobster to the lobster roll for the inconvenience. My favorite was the sho-nuff. Great combination. My palette is more of a hot sandwich, buttery toast, loaded veggies type . Wasn't a fan of the lobster roll or vegan Reuben. The lobster tasted too pickled. Overall, a 4 for the creativity of sandwiches, location, and customer service.

Waited 40 minutes for a sandwich I pre-ordered, the lady that took my order said it would be ready in 15 min. I arrived 15 min. After the original call, when I arrived, she said it would be a few more minutes.. that was 20 minutes later.. disappointed again, the service.. I payed top dollar for this sandwich, this place was not extremely busy.. I would like to support locally owed business, however, my time wasn't valued.. This has been the second time this happened, very disappointed.....again..

This place is fantastic! I love that they have so many options for vegans! The TLT (tofu, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich packed so much flavor in the tofu and vegan garlic mayo. The broccoli salad is fresh and super tasty. I would highly recommend this place.

I love the food and come here a lot but I’m often disappointed in the experience. The service is slow and several of the servers are rude. Once, when we asked to order after a long time of waiting, the response given was “I have other customers”. The food is great but for the price and service, I’m not sure it is worth it.

Loved the atmosphere, the building was so cute! It was a very busy popular spot so you know that it's good! There is a pick up window outside you can call or place orders online for to go which I thought was cool. There is a little patio area in the back we didn't go to because it's too cold to sit outside but I bet in the summer it's very nice. They have a bar there with tasty cocktail options, the pistachio cherry old fashion was probably the best old fashion I've ever had! So many sandwich options to choose from all very delicious sounding. when you sit down you scan a QR code for the menu and order online, of course if you have trouble they will give you a menu and take your order but I like the idea of not touching a dirty menu before I eat. Overall wonderful experience definitely recommend if you have not been!

While they promote their lobster roll, I do believe it could be better. You get a lot of lobster in a less than 6 inch of the roll, I do feel it could have more butter, and the roll is only elevated because of the garlic butter roll that it’s on. It’s not worth $22-$23 dollars. You can get sandwich’s from different places that are cheaper and bigger, maybe even 2-3 sandwich’s. The lobster roll could be better.

Came to this place on a woman. Oh my god where we impressed. But make sure when you get here you have an appetite. You want to be able to enjoy everything. The only thing tricky was that you have to order through your phone and they only take payment through the US so we had to order through the waitress as I am Canadian and couldn't provide a US payment. I can't recall the two sandwiches I got and the two salads, but my god they were delicious. The first bite so good!!!

Awesome neighborhood deli vibes. The sandwiches are pretty largem the meats were excellent and the bread was as good or better. The wait was a little long but they were obviously busy before we walked in so we expected that. Great food, would recommend.

I am so glad we choose this place for lunch while visiting from across state. Hands down one of the best sandwiches we have ever had. Fresh ingredients with house smoked meats and homemade sauces. I had the Sho'Nuff (amazingly delicious) and my husband had the Brooklyn (also amazingly delicious) My husband had the spumoni old fashioned, which was a fabulous harmony of flavors. The lady behind the bar (sorry we forgot her name) was so kind, friendly and fun. A true asset and gem to this place. We dined on Nov 4 , 2023 between 130p-315p. Give her a big old hug and a whoop whoop for her top notch service. We will be back when on this side of town and recommending to friends and family. This is a must place while in the area. Don't pass it up. THANK YOU!!!!!!

My whole family went, which meant I was able to try a significant amount of sandwiches that were on the menu. I definitely think the Sho'nuff was the best! Pretty long wait time if you come at lunch time on a Saturday with seven people, but like. Duh. We set it up so they'd call us and then went to John K. King's used book store, and I would probably suggest doing the same. Or you could play cornhole outside the establishment!

First time there since the owner died. For is still elevated deli of the finest quality. Huge selection and quality of food and drinks. Service is slow, so order ahead or account for it by budgeting 20-30 minutes to get your food.

Awesome sandwich. I am in town for a conference and always do my research on where to eat. Mudgies had good reviews and they didn't let down. It was excellent food and quality. Would absolutely come back again but not gonna have enough time probably.

We dined at Mudgie's while on vacation last month and I'm still thinking about how good the food was!! The value and quality in the food we received was far beyond what we paid for it, truly a hidden value in the neighborhood. We made this our first stop since it had a playground across the street and when the associate called my name from the pick up window I had a momentary sense of childhood glee, that feeling of being called in for lunch or dinner after playing outside with friends. Simply magical on top of the already stellar cuisine. We only wish we lived closer. Chicago needs a Mudgie's!!!

A Detroit institute. Not much else to say. Every time I come back around to Mudgies I'm impressed as usual. Had a Brooklyn sandwich and a high tea. Was a little busy around 1pm. Good service. Nice patio

We had a group of 6 in our parry so we had a 20 minute wait for lunch. The staff were very friendly The cheese soup, corned beef sandwiches and tuna melts were delicious and definitely worth trying. The topper was the cinnamon-sugar donut for dessert. Give Mudgies a try.

Unique selection of sandwiches and drinks in a comfortable and quaint setting. The variety can be a bit overwhelming at first, but the selection of distinctive sandwiches, soups, wines, beers, and cocktails culminate in one of the best deli+ experiences you'll have. They strike a perfect balance between curious and approachable with their food, a feat not easily accomplished.

Fresh brewed coffee, in fact everything fresh. The prices are pretty cheap considering this day and age. 7 Dollars for a burrito with added avocado and a really good homemade jelly and a 4$ coffee (added caramel). They loaded it up and just had really great service.

My first time here! I ate at the bar and I just love everything about this place. It’s so charming, there’s so much history in this space, and the people are incredibly nice and welcoming. The butternut squash soup is AMAZING (little sweet, savory, creamy-perfect cozy autumn food)!

Sat down and ate here when it was warmer and had outside seating in the fall. Sandwiches were decent. But the service was very poor. Had to send back the pretzels and cheese because they neglected to tell us that the pretzels are the hard cold pretzels like you get out of a bag of pretzel rods and not the warm soft pretzel you would expect when you order pretzels and beer cheese.. I politely sent it back, because I always feel bad if I have to send something back, and the waitress was suddenly extremely rude and gave us the worst attitude. She was very unprofessional and snotty with us the rest of our meal just for sending back the pretzels. When she gave us our bill later, the pretzels were still on there. I explained she must of forgot to remove the charge and she snatched it bill from me without saying a word and came back with a corrected one, again without saying a word. We didn't make a fuss about it, we just paid our bill and tipped her decent anyway because maybe she was just having a bad day. However, with very unprofessional service it's a bad experience I won't forget so I won't be back nor do I recommend it.

Lobster rolls (that's what I ate while getting a drink to brain pick a damsel Trump supporter)! They have so many sandwiches that I want to try. They make sandwiches so well, I wish I was a Corktown local. I'd be so fat. They make a great drink. Had a lotta bees in the back patio tho. They are friendly bees though. If you chill, they will chill with you. Just be cool. I might love Mudgies. The bathroom was even clean, hard feat for a single seater!

Very good sandwiches...I always order the Turkey Trot and potato salad, which is certainly the best I have ever eaten. Walk-up takeout is rather slow, however, during these times (Covid) its still worth your time to stand there and wait. Your stomach will be "Happy".

  • 3/5 James S. 3 years ago on Google
I'll be honest... For all the hype over the years, picture and publicity about lobster week... We were severely underwhelmed. The lobster rolls visually appear delicious, but ours were just acceptable/okay. They did not taste very naturally sweet how I might expect fresh lobster to taste. The lobster bisque in our opinion had much better flavor than our lobster rolls and I'm sad that we were so excited to finally try them, but not as good as we thought. We might have to try their other sandwiches sometime, but I don't know if we'll be back for lobster week.

After hearing nothing but great things about this place for years, I was finally able to make it in and enjoy. DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! Excellent selection of sandwiches, beer and wine. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy a great sandwich in Detroit look no further. I will definitely be returning to enjoy another sandwich. Parking was mostly along the street and on a busy day might make it difficult to find a spot close. Park with swings and jungle gym across the street gives a nice option for parents too.

The Lobster was superb and I had a virgin pina colada that was perfect on this hot July afternoon. The waitstaff worked as a team well and I added a carry out which was delivered in perfect timing. The checks were split and delivered efficiently. I will be back. I highly recommended this place.

The Barrett was the best corned beef sandwich I have ever had, and that is my go to kind of sandwich. Corned beef was hot, crispy on the edges, perfectly salty and not overly dry or too fatty. The coleslaw perfectly balanced the corned beef and was full of flavor. I'm sad that this was my first sandwich here because I am going to want it every time I go back, and I will have a hard time trying anything else.

Good food but terrible service. Ordered one sandwich to go to share with my friend and asked if we could have an extra plate/napkins etc. The woman taking my order just replied “it’s take out.” There was loud music playing in the window making it hard to hear and talk as well. I was told it would be about 5-10 min wait. 25 min later we still didn’t have our food. Meanwhile the woman who took my order was doing the work of ten people including bringing the orders out while others workers just wiped down tables or walked around aimlessly . Another customer waiting said he had called his order in and was still waiting after an hour. I finally asked where my food was and she said it would be another 10-15 min so I asked for my money back and what do you know , she comes back with my food. Not impressed at all.

I needed food to feed dear friends after a death in the family. I called to place an order. The owner called me and helped me put together perfect food for this situation. I ordered salad and soup and grilled cheese. He suggested putting the sandwiches together, but not grilling them so the family can make them fresh when wanted. Genius! The salad he made was huge and beautiful. He gave me large containers of soup. He threw in 2 bottles of wine and a baguette and block of cheese. My friends were so grateful, as am I. Thank you Mudgies. You are the best!
