What a fabulous find. This is the best book stores we have ever been to. The store itself is perfection. Row and rows on floors and floors. Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time for exploring. The staff was so helpful, Chris was so incredibly helpful and friendly. We even chatted with the owner who was a true gem. This is a must stop while visiting Detroit. 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️

This bookstore is great. There are books on every genre you can think of, and the prices are good. The owner and business's namesake was outside directing traffic when we arrived. He even helped me find a parking spot. You don't see owners of a world-famous business doing that too often.

Books on Top of Books and in a great way. As organized as you can expect if not better. Library style without the Shhhhhhhh… had fun exploring and purchasing a few books. Great Place. Great Piece of History!

This is one of the most magical places I've ever had the fortune to step into. Four floors jam-packed with books (and other media, sometimes) of all kinds. You can go from a 1910 book on midwest shrubs to classic foreign novels, author biographies, technical manuals, picture books, and so on and so forth in the span of a few aisles. The staff is very kind and helpful, and the prices are low. If you even remotely have an interest in books, you need to visit this place. (really, the only downside is that there's no kind of centralized search, but that's kind of understandable)

I could spend all day here. What a gorgeous place. The smell of old books just permeates everything. Staff are on each floor and eager to help. There are many cute, small or funny signs everywhere, it's like a little scavenger hunt to try and find them. More books than you could ever imagine in categories you've never even dreamed of reading. A must stop when in Detroit!

Might be the best book store I have ever visited. Four floors just packed with all kinds of books. Everything from rare, to uncommon to popular fiction. I lost 90 minutes in my first, but not last visit, to this store and didn't even make it to the fourth floor.

John K King was on my list of bookstore- libraries to visit! This was definitely a bucketlister for me in Detroit. I arrived so early I had to wait a few minutes to go in, along with a few other visitors, Lol! Parking is free in the side of bldg., Tip: I would arrive early so parking wont be a issue. This place lives up to the hype and more. If you are looking for real-old authentic books, not from Amazon, this is your place. I literally was stuck at the front of the store going thru the freebies stuff first. There are several floors and area to the book store. The front desk will give you a map, Yessss a map describing the rows, everything is very much organized and clean. I browsed and enjoyed viewing the art work thru out the store. Customer service was amazing, and helpful. I lost track of the time spent here, it was indeed a great morning hanging out in this haven! My heart was indeed full with my new books Tip: A must stop, even if your not a book lover, its just a cool place to visit in Detroit!

Stopped here to browse while in Detroit visiting family. We found some wonderful books. My inner nerd is still happy. The historical building and the floors of books was amazing. The staff was ready to help if we had any questions. The map of the sections of books on each floor was great. This is definitely a must for book lovers.

A true gem for bookworms and lovers of old buildings. The perfect shop for those whose happiness is sustained by hours of browsing used books, gleaning smells from all the previously loved pages, and exploring all the nooks and crannies of this stunningly stocked book mecca. One of the best bookstores I've ever visited! You can't leave empty handed, there's truly a treasure to be found by all.

Amazing books, amazing view. A must see if you love books and are in Detroit. For a bibliophile, it's as close to heaven as you could hope for. And the smell, oh my God. It smells like happy warm memories.

Welcome to the only bookstore I know that’s guarded by razorwire. Ok, so despite this, King is a wonderful quirky store (4? floors), with a rare book annex. The annex is only accessible for browsing to customers with a focused interest, and typically only after a search of their website for specific items in the annex. Staff are really friendly and helpful. The store enjoys bragging about their apparently well-deserved acclaim. The best thing that I found in Detroit.

Qiurky store, packed to the rafters but somehow not a dust bomb. I think this would be a great place to explore for students, etc. I don't know if they have a card catogue, but I think it might be hard tind a spicific book. Also, the parking lot entrance/exit is one in the same and very narrow, so it could be dangerouse.

So many options This is the largest book store you could possibly walk into. Very large with many options, and getting lost in a book or bookstore is not a bad idea. It is easy to get turned around or forget what floor you're on, there are many rooms with variety of topics.

This is a massive used/rare bookstore with a large collection of materials to browse. They also have paintings on display, available for purchase, in the stairwell. The staff were kind & helpful and they have a lot of interesting materials, like vintage Star Wars books. I'm most interested in youth literature so I mostly looked at the YA & juvenile collections; there is a sizeable amount of juvenile literature but the YA collection is near nonexistent. I'm sure most people don't come here looking for youth literature, though. They also have free books in the lobby.

We loved the bookstore and stopped on a whim Ayer having seen a TikTok. The customer service is A+ and we definitely found some treasures. If you’re looking for older copies of anything from books to magazines, to even postcards or trinkets; you’ll find it there.

One of the nicest used and rare bookstores in the city. This is the second time visiting here since I was younger. There are thousands of books that they offer for readers. Rich in history, architecture, and culture. The only issue is there are toooooo many people who come here. Some of the books are worn out from so many people touching them and not buying anything. Best advice is to visit in the morning where’s there enough room to move around so to not bump into people. Also, the workers here are so very kind and extremely helpful. Ask them anything and they will help you find whatever you’re looking to read. 10/10 best bookstore in the city :)

Such a cool place. Books as far as the eye can see! We were able to take some senior photos here and absolutely loved the vibe!

This bookstore is fabulous, with 4 massive floors (4 stories!) of books of every imaginable genre, plus comic books, magazines, record albums, photos, etc., and amazing artwork lining the stairway, also for sale. An added plus is the historical antiquity of the building, itself... just beautiful! I could just get lost in there for an entire day! It's well worth planning a visit to, or just spontaneously stopping into if you're passing through the neighborhood! It's very conveniently located just off the Lodge Freeway.

What a cool spot. I could've spent all day in there and it was hot as hell. I don't care. I love looking through old books. I had some great finds. I can't wait to go back. If you're in the D, check it out.
