Five stars! The food was overall good, the staff was friendly and the musical entertainment was supreme! Nice chill place for after work or a date night! ! I will return!. On 6/17 I returned eager to get more food. Compared to my last visit the food was bland and just overall bad for the price. I paid 108 dollars for food that was 🤮! If I ever return it will be for Jazz only!

I have never done this but I have to. I always used to enjoy every part of baker's. I have patronize often per covid and first time since covid. They now charge an extra $2 gratuity on each item you order, $15 door cover charge and additional $10.02 gratuity per person regardless of your party (we had 4). Not to mention $10 parking. Service was slow and lack customer service. I will never go back to baker's. Disappointed truly.

Loved the old school ambiance and Ralphe Armstrong Trio. Be prepared to spend money: $10 parking, $15/person cover, plus food and drinks. Food was just OK. The turkey chops are fried and dry. As in other reviews, the Mac and Cheese was meh. The warm corn muffin was the best part of the meal.

Great place to be entertained and well-fed with delicious soul food. Need to hire more waiters and waitress to speed up the process of taking orders and delivering food in a more timely manner.

I’m very Disgusted with my order. I ordered food from here and found a dead fly in one of my sides . I won’t be retuning, on top of the extra small containers they give you now is not worth another visit to me. This is why I eat wit the lights on smfh!

We had an outstanding experience at Bakers. We celebrated a birthday there with a delicious soul food dinner and outstanding live entertainment. The jazz trio were true professionals and played to a mature crowd and tons of tourists. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The parking is next door with an on-site guard. Only Con: cocktails have great names like the Nina Simone and Dizzy Gillespie, however, they are underwhelming... very watery and bland. Maybe order beer or bottle of wine. You need to visit this historic Detroit hot spot a few times a year! This place is legendary! Very enjoyable for all ages.

This is an incredibly under-rated gem in Detroit. World-class music combined witj amazingly delicious food. I had the catfish, green collards, and yams. Absolutely one of the best foods I had in a long time. It is like time travel when you walk inside the building, so beautiful. Great service, great parking, great everything.

The experience was wonderful! But there is a $15 cover charge per person which is added to your bill also a $10 parking fee . The food was good, but the greens had no flavor at all, pork chops were good but there was no season at all. The meal comes with 2 sides and the drinks (pops) were in a skinny glass which I felt it should have been free refills. Don't get me wrong but for this to be a Historic place in Michigan, it should have had top notch food, meaning flavor bursting through the roof!! Maybe they need to change Cooks or the way that they season food. 🤔

We had such an amazing time here. The food was good. The drinks were just ok. The service was very good. The music is what put it over the top for us. There was a birthday party for a musician, so we had tons of variety as they celebrated him. Such a fun experience!!! Unfortunately, the rest of my videos were FB lives.

We had a deeply disappointing experience at this historic landmark in Detroit. We made reservations and told that there would be a “ house band” playing at 7:00. Arriving at 6:30 We were excited to be there!! After numerous inquiries about the music promised to us, slow service, botched orders, and a promise that the band was “ en route,” we left at 8:30. Our waiter Earl was a wonderful young man who did his best to navigate such a mismanaged establishment. Basically, I think the owner told the staff to lie about the arrival of a band so that he could have paying customers enter the place. What a travesty. This place featured jazz greats since 1934. Someone come in and save it from extinction!!!

Let's start with the 25% gratuity. The sides were awful. Slow service. Juan tried his best by himself. This place needs massive work. Completely disappointed in this landmark establishment

We're from out of town so once we traveled there we just paid to park $10. We really wanted to go out and eat. On the inside you have two options bar of if there's live entertainment you can pay$15 per person for a table. Again a night out so of course. The band was Awesome and the Ford was spectacular. Well worth everything. I will definitely be going back there next time I'm in the City.

It’s my birthday so chose to travel to Detroit to visit this spot been here many times. Was told we couldn’t have a booth they were reserved yet couples behind us were told to pick whatever seats they wanted. They were out of pork chops at 6:30pm, I wanted to sub smothered fried chicken was told there would be an $5 upcharge. Dressing was DRY I took two bites they said I still had to pay for it, that was $7. Gratuity built in bill so good/bad service does not matter. Small pop cost $6. Will be a while before I come back again!

Victim of it's own success. This iconic spot is lively, inviting, but the service wasn't great because of how busy they were. Although I wanted to try more of the menu, I was lucky to see my waiter only once every 45 minutes. I'm sympathetic that it was a busy Friday night but I think more wait staff is needed.

Went out for a night out with family and was very disappointed. From the start, parking was $10 at 5pm. That was unusual for us given how early it was in the evening. Service was terrible…host was very loud and had no etiquette. We were approached by a server to see if we were going to stay for the band in the middle of our meal to accommodate another party. Had the host seated us correctly, we wouldn’t have been in the way. We were seated at a small 2 top table…we were a party of 4…3 were full grown men. The food was cold and terrible. Cabbage was bland, mashed potatoes were made from instant box mix…smothered pork chops were covered in brown/beef gravy and tasted like instant mix. Portion for meatloaf was very small. Ordered a piece of catfish on the side because I was very disappointed with food and was charged $15 for one piece and nothing else in which I could’ve just ordered a dinner for a few dollars more had the waitress noted this. Drinks were not refillable and was poured directly from a 2 liter bottle. We did not feel welcomed and were rushed. They were out of many items so we couldn’t really enjoy ourselves as we would have liked. Overpriced and not anything to brag about at all. Left completely dissatisfied unfortunately and still hungry so went downtown to Fishbones.

I was completely disappointed with the food. Not at all what it used to be. I ordered fried chicken, which was extremely dry, over cooked and not seasoned at all. I ordered greens, that did not have any season, the mac and cheese no seasoning and dry cheese, and yams that only seasoned with too much nutmeg. The food used to be absolutely AMAZING. I won't be going back. I can tell the establishment has changed owners and obviously has a new cook.

I cannot understand why anyone would visit this place. I can process the need/want for nostalgia but that's doesn't excuse not putting any money into the building. Looks the same as it did all those years ago. There were flies everywhere. Many of them gathered on the wall with the mirrors. Sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese, dressing and potato salad were okay at best and the pork chops were too tough to enjoy. Catfish nuggets were good even though the server overcharged me for them. She was nice so I guess that makes up for the mistake. I'll take responsibility since I didn't go over my receipt like I should have. Won't likely go back. Too disappointed. Wasted $114(3 people with one drink).

We went there to celebrate my sister's birthday. They had a little bear and balloons waiting for her when we arrived. The waitress was friendly and engaging. She was patient when the rest of our group hadn't arrived yet. The food was good. The Ralphe Armstrong Trio was fabulous. Thanks Baker's for a wonderful time.

First time out for live music in 15 months and it was fabulous! Baker's is the oldest well known jazz club in Michigan. Very intimate. Every popular artist has come for a sit-in. The food was great. Cover is high but the artist made it worth it.

The band was fine. The service was very slow and you can forget eating together as a group the first served will be finished by the time the third person gets there food. They are also slow with bringing your drinks. They add on an automatic 20 percent gratuity per person which service was definitely not worth it and Bakers also charges the $15 door fee on that same bill which increases the gratuity instead of just letting you pay at the door so they can get more money instead of just providing good service.
