I'm sad these two cubs are moving on to a new home! They were so playful. The tunnel gets VERY loud and crowded so if you or your kids get overstimulated easily, maybe not the best place, but it is beautiful when you catch the animals in action. I miss the ice wall though! Wish they'd bring that back!

There were no polar bears!! Supposedly being moved, wish we had been notified instead of spending $25 per person and wasting one of my sons days home on leave from the army to see nothing, there were a lot of the exhibits that were "closed due to rehabilitation" call ahead, don't waste your time and money

The polar bears were all outside and visible when we visited despite it being a very hot day. The line was a bit longer to get in but was worth it.

The bears were out and in view there wasn't a wait to walk threw and see them. They did seem kinda unhappy and maybe too hot im no polar bear expert but it seems like they should be in a cooler environment.

The seals were showing off and so much fun to watch! But their enclosure seems a bit small. Hope to see it enlarged soon. Polar bears were cool too.

This guy was so active. He seemed really happy tamping around outside and then playing in the water. It was fun to watch him do polar bear stuff

We Love visiting the arctic ring (even though the polar bears are a rare sighting). It is currently only open part of the way through before they turn you back around towards the entrance because all of the buildings are currently closed due to covid. Hoping they will open them up again soon, but until then we are still enjoying the rest of the zoo weekly😊

This is a very important exhibit. It should be a top priority. This last time I visited the bear area seemed to be bleak. One bear was pacing in a small area and two others were sitting staring into space. They had added some sea otters to the exhibit (separate from the Polar Bears). They were far off in the submerged viewing area. It was clear what they were. We were looking for the seals but had no information on where they went. Someone had thrown some thick liquid on the inner surface of the acrylic viewing tube. There wasn't anything to view in the tube tank. Not even a fish.

The zoo just keeps getting better every time we go back. It's alot of walking but there is so much to see. The enclosures are huge for the animals (which is amazing) The volunteers were so friendly talking to my kids. It was amazing even on a rainy day! The dino experience was super enjoyable even for my older kids. We had a great time.

The polar bear exhibit was the best! The polar bears were active and very playful with their toys. Avoid long lines by purchasing tickets in advance. My wife and I qualified for senior admission, $32 each. Our two grandchildren were $32 each. Worthwhile day spent at The Zoo!

  • 5/5 Chad M. 2 years ago on Google
All the animals were amazing! I loved seeing the polar bears and the otters. Some of the exhibits were down due to influenza but it's good to see them keeping their animals safe.

  • 1/5 Jason F. 2 years ago on Google
No polar bears, and a plethora of adults ignoring the zoos indoor makes mandates and just sitting in the tunnel for prolonged periods of time despite almost every child under 12 not yet eligible for a vaccine. Go here if you want to disappoint your child with the lack of polar bears and put them at an unnecessarily high risk of catching COVID.

Was so sad. Didn't really get to see anything artic. Caught glimpses of the polar bear. But no artic fox sightings or penguins

  • 5/5 Tabinda A. 2 years ago on Google
It was really nice we got to see polar bears, artic foxes and also otters

  • 3/5 Afzan Adilah A. 2 years ago on Google
Bummer. When our family visit this place, it was unoccupied. Really have challenges to explain to the young one. But we managed to take a glimpse of sea otter swimming backward. Kind of awesome. May not visit again because we are going back to our home country soon.

Bears look happy and healthy and like they have a lot of enrichment! Got lucky enough to see them the other day. Props to the staff for doing all that they can to keep these guys happy

It's such a nice place! Staff is very helpful and polite. The food was good, I'm my opinion. Was a good day trip for my girlfriend and I. The butterfly and bird buildings are beautiful, The architecture of these buildings is indicative of the time period they were constructed.

  • 5/5 Marilyn R. 11 months ago on Google
Great exhibit at the zoo! We watched one of the polar bears play in the water from one of the viewing areas that gave us a view of both the surface and underwater. There's also a "fishbowl" tunnel under the polar bear pool that's totally encased in clear glass do you can get a total 360 view of the pool.

  • 5/5 Melida D. 9 months ago on Google
It was nice Penguins. was active and moving around

  • 2/5 Trina K. 10 months ago on Google
I was a little disappointed with this exhibit. One polar bear was just pacing back and forth where you could barely see him for a while while one just laid there.

  • 5/5 Deborah G. 10 months ago on Google
Gorgeous zoo!! Beautiful walking paths. Lots to see and do!!

  • 4/5 StediUniverz L. 10 months ago on Google
1st visit was well over $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids. I was able to turn my receipt in for credit towards a membership (just had to pay $17-20 more). We have been back 5 times since then and only had to pay for snacks. I suggest eating a meal before going & and packing a lunch to take with you. Great experience and exercise. Park is well maintained. Friendly staff.

  • 5/5 L C. 1 year ago on Google
Had a great time! The line was long but move fairly quickly. All the animals except the lions were out and about. Both the penguins and polar bear came right up to the windows. The penguin area was the kids(2and 4) favorite followed closely by the the polar bears! All the facilities were clean and stocked and every staff member we interacted with were knowledgeable and friendly.

  • 5/5 John C. 4 years ago on Google
Love the exhibit here, especially when mom and dad need a quick AC break on a hot day. If you are lucky enough to vatch the polar bears, they are quite spectacular!!

  • 5/5 Somnath R. 1 year ago on Google
According to me, a must see exhibit for everybody. The glass tunnel provides a great view of the polar bears playing inside the water.

  • 5/5 Elizabeth S. 1 year ago on Google
I love the Arctic ring of life. You can occasionally see polar bear swimming over you. It does not happen all the time. There was seals here but they are now gone and sea otters are in their place. They're still working on the whole area. I don't think you can see the Arctic foxes at this time, but you can also go outside and see all the bears on the tundra

  • 4/5 Christopherroseanne W. 1 year ago on Google
Glad, surprized and thankful they were open. The exhibit, shelter, creature good, toddler joint,who- nhanny good joint was clean and exherating.Just didn't see them swimming this time;but thank you Detroit Zoo,may many more years come to you good employees and the good zoo creature residents.

  • 5/5 Zachary M. 1 year ago on Google
Awesome experience. I've been in the past when the bears weren't active, but today around noon they were swimming and playing. Also the sea otters are very entertaining. The exhibit is well made.

  • 5/5 ICOE 1 year ago on Google
This place is amazing. There is a glass tube you can work through to see the polar bears. It was really cool seeing them under the water. Our timing was perfect, the two bears kept swimming above us for the 15 minutes we were there.

  • 1/5 Tim B. 3 years ago on Google
Updated 11/20. No more seals at all and they're not coming back. Love going through here on every trip to the zoo. The opportunity for up close underwater photos of the seals as well as the polar bears is fantastic. Recently (June through August 2018) it had a refresh/remodel of concrete and paint, and all the glass was polished. Disappointed that one of the seals (Keenak) was sent away, and isn't coming back.

I never realized polar bears could be so off-white! This part of the zoo is one of my favorites and my little one can't get enough of it either! No trip to the zoo is complete for us unless we go through the Arctic Ring of Life. This exhibit is a major win and a definite crowd pleaser!

  • 3/5 Rebecca S. 4 years ago on Google

We love the polar bear habitat here. The viewing tunnel is a great way to see them. It can get crowed at normal times, but this has been closed during the COVID-19 outbreak. We look forward to returning to the view-tube soon!

  • 5/5 Kyle A. 3 years ago on Google
First time I've seen the polar bears out in the summer months. They were playing with each other and walking around. They're beautiful

  • 1/5 Stacy F. 3 years ago on Google
This was worst visit to the zoo. Hardly any animals out and a lot of exhibits were closed. Most expensive walk I ever paid for. However food courts were alp open ?? Go figure.

  • 5/5 Rowan A. 3 years ago on Google
Brrrr, but not so cold. It was a grand sight to behold. Goblin Approved, and really neat. Just don't go swimming, those cute foxes like to nip at your feet. A Gobtastic experience for one and all, say hi to the bears when they wave a paw.

  • 3/5 Lily S. 3 years ago on Google
We did not see any polar bears at all until the end. The polar bear was pacing back and fourth. And it was a bummer that we could not go inside of the building.
