I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars, because they deserve every bit of a 10/5. We have been meaning to try this restaurant for years, and I'm glad we did, because even with a 50 minute drive, we have been missing out! We prepaid for the dining experience, where you can choose your own appetizer, 2 main dishes, and a dessert , or you can get the chef's table. We are huge foodies and we love paella, and Vanessa, our waitress and co-owner, was super accommodating about letting us do the chef's table, but also incorporating things we wanted to try. 1. Started with garlic bread- it was amazing... super flavor and just the right amount of crispy. 2. Had the ceviche... delicious... filled with flavor and a huge portion. The tostones were delicious, as well, but after seeing the size of the ceviche, we laid off of those, so we could have room for the rest of our meal. 3. The summer salad was one of the best salads we have ever had... we could literally eat that all day. It is so refreshing and light, while bursting with flavor. 4. The paella was loaded with seafood and HUGE. Every bite had seafood in it, and it was delicious! 5. The steak and lamb chops were cooked to perfection. The lamb chops were some of the best we have ever had... like melt in your mouth amazing. 6. The chocolate molten cake and ice cream are a perfect dessert... many restaurants make it too sweet, but this wasn't... and the ice cream was so smooth and delicious too. We were stuffed, but couldn't let this deliciousness go to waste. 7. Even the cappuccino was delicious!!! We took a ton of food home and we can eat, so anyone that thinks the portions are small is far from our experience. The price for the experience is so reasonable for what you get, that this would be a weekly stop for us if they were closer. I'm a sucker for mom/pop places, who put their passion into their food, and this place surpassed all of our expectations! We can't wait to be back and bring all our friends!

I found this place on Instagram @garridosbistro and it was everything I expected and more. We ordered the loaded fries for a appetizer (we dug into them prior to the picture) and they were great. We had the Seafood Pasta. We also had the lomo saltado. The steak was very juicy!! You will not have a bland experience here. Of course we ordered one of their famous milkshakes! We got the molten lava over a Oreo milkshake and it did not let us down. They could improve their drink selection, they offer a selection of teas, juices and canned pop. The teas are very floral which I wasn’t a fan of. The space is small and I wouldn’t advise to have a party larger than 5. Overall the experience was great and we’ll be back in the future!

Food was outstanding. Venezuelan food. We had the plantain nachos. Delicious South American take on nachos with plantains instead of tortilla chips. I had the Casablanca seafood plate. Excellent sauce and yellow rice with peas went eel with the seafood. The bean Arepa sandwich was perfect and huge. Had enough leftovers for another meal. The drinks were unique and prefect blend of sweetness and alcohol.

My husband and I are both Cuban, living most of our lives in the Miami area. We were in the mood for some Latin/Spanish food so we decided to visit Garridos, for the first time. It’s a cute place and the servers were awesome but can’t say the same about the food. We ordered the arepas with cheese; the arepas did not taste like anything. We ordered the paella and that was also lacking the traditional taste And flavor. They used orzo instead of Arborio or Valencia rice and the taste was just of broth. The seafood was okay, shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari. Peas are okay in paella but no carrots. We ordered the churros with chocolate sauce and ice cream. The churros were very thick and not light and airy as they are supposed to be; maybe frozen churros were used? Lastly, I ordered a Sangria, which they don’t have, so I ordered a drink they have similar to sangria. It was a very small cup, luckily they had all first drinks at 50% off. That said, maybe they need a new chef who is familiar with all of these Latin/Spanish dishes.

We visited this place for the first time this past weekend. We had a really great waitress and she answered all of our questions about the menu. The food arrived quickly and tasted great. We will definitely visit this place again very soon.

Okay, so I've known about this place for a while but never went because I thought this was more of a dessert place rather than a restaurant where you could have a super satisfying lunch or dinner. And gosh, am I glad we went here. Faves were the panchos (plantains and nachos) and the lomo saltado. Omg did those flavours ever hit the spot. How is it even possible for plantains to be that delicious? I don't know what kind of cheese were on those panchos but I want to order it in gallons. The beef in the lomo saltado was so tender and flavorful, I was very very impressed. We also tried the casino royale arepas and the tequenos. I understand that the arepas are supposed to be the star dish at this restaurant but we ordered it kinda late and so it arrived last so I didn't really get to enjoy it because I couldn't stop eating the beef dish but I reheated it the next day in the oven and delish! We ended our meal with the Nutella cheesecake and honestly they just execute everything so well here. They find ways to elevate flavours that you imagine you know very well and isn't gonna blow your mind and they just turn it into something that does blow your mind. Really, really impressed, cannot sing this place enough praises. Don't be like me and wait 3 years before coming here. The portions are also quite generous and so if you are hungry like right now, this is definitely the place to go.

We were the first people there, and didn't receive our food for an hour but everyone that came 20 minutes after us got there food right away. The server Kelly was rude and only came to see us when we ordered drinks. The boy that severed our food didn't know what any of it was and gave everyone all the wrong food. Plus they charge a 18 dollars gratuity fee for party's over 5, we had 5 people and a 2 year old and they still charged us the fee. This place needs to learn what hospitality is. VERY RUDE. Wish I could give zero stars.

The food taste is not authentic. Panchos cost me $24 where as in the menu it says $13. Not sure what she thought when she put in $24 to me. I will sue this restaurant for wrong billing

This place is super expensive and they never have any room. The whole dining area is the size of my living room and that's not saying much. They charge you for extra bread. Ridiculous! They also made their dinner portions smaller. The first time i went they were quite generious but not the second time. Their food is also bland. The only nice thing is their dessert milkshake. They advertise like crazy but never have seating when you go to dine in. Also, not very friendly. Especially the female chef who i think is also an owner.

Terrible Customer Service. They take reservations but not for a party larger of 4. Not because of lack of space but simply because they have enough business as is and party of 7 is too much work apparently. Never going here again

Have ya’ll heard of salt??? The food was so bland!! (You could at least put salt and pepper on the table…) The menu was not what was shown in these pics. Where are all those shakes you tout? New ownership? Supply-chain issues? Everything was just ok. I drove 45 minutes for lauded food but will not return. There is nothing to praise.

Had a gift certificate and was excited to go. How can an “almost free” meal be disappointing????? I had the Casablanca bowl and my daughter had a dinner with shrimp and rice. Without getting into detail, a bowl of dry rice with fishy Seafood which was only semi-flavored didn’t fancy us at all… Our appetizer which was a vegetarian plantain nacho and our drinks were good! We should’ve stuck with that.

We came here for my birthday and it was a small little place with a whole lot of flavor. The arepas and paella were great. Everyone enjoyed the quesadillas and the waitstaff was attentive. I was disappointed that the milkshakes are seasonal and it wasn’t stated on the website. Otherwise, I’d definitely come back, just with a smaller group for quicker service.

The food was spectacular! My husband and I are not often impressed by restaurants, nor do I take the time to write reviews unless a place is truly outstanding. If you're looking for something unique, authentic, and delicious, this is where you need to go. It's a small space with not a lot of seating and the wait may be a little longer than usual, but it is worthwhile. Also had two excellent Venezuelan drinks that were both fantastic.

Delicious food, we tried plantain nachos the guacamole was excellent. The ceviche is fresh and the lime taste is just right, for main dish I had the seafood stew that comes with rice, I enjoyed the spice balance not much of ot, but still you can feel in with each bite. At the end we had churros, it was good but they can do better with the chocolate dip. The prices are moderate, service is fast, place is clean and smells good

I've been to Garrido's twice and both times were underwhelming. Their menu is a mess. It's painful to read, and it's missing a lot of items that they sell. Their frozen cocktails they showed on Instagram were nowhere to be found and their huge milkshakes that made them famous aren't listed either. Their food isn't terrible, but those milkshakes were not good. The toppings tasted stale and the shake itself was just okay. Much better experience at Jojo's Shake Bar or M Street. This place is just mediocre. I probably won't come back. It definitely is not worth driving out of your way for.

We thought the food was just alright. We had the paella and honestly the sea food didn't taste good. The vegetables seemed like they came from a frozen bag. They also charged extra for chicken and chorizo to go in it and that's pretty standard to have in paella. We asked for the bottom to be crispy (which was offered by the waiter) and it came out completely soggy. Service was good though. They left a plastic water bottle at the table to refill the water glasses which is pretty tacky.

The worse lomo saltado and paella I've ever had. It tasted terrible and sadly my bill was almost $60. The waitress noticed my gf and I weren't eating so she asked me if I wanted a box. I left that box outside right next to the door.

Went to see a server that made our last visit (years ago) magical. I think her name was Shumya. Anyway, she really knew how to cater to the customer. She picked apart the menu and asked about my typical dinner palette to help me choose the best dish. Didn’t get that this time around. The server was just there to do the job, obviously didn’t care about customer service. When I told her about a problem with my dish she went and talked with other servers instead of talking to the kitchen. Ridiculous. Food was ok, not as great as what I had last time though. If only I remembered what I ordered before.

Goodness, what a restaurant. Our meal at Garrido's was one of the most delicious meals we've had in the Detroit area. The arepas were fantastic and packed with flavor. The Plantain Nachos were excellent and also packed with flavor and seasoning. The sangria was superb, and the churros and tres leches cake were outstanding. The service was as excellent as the food. I can't wait to come back.

  • 5/5 Joel H. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic, cozy, cute dinner spot. I'll be honest, a good part of why we went was to get one of the much lauded towering desserts, which it turns out they were not making that night. I wish they had a released schedule for when they are making them as we really want to try them. But we could not have been happier or more impressed with the food, service, and ambiance. For those concerned about safety, all employees (servers and those in the semi-open kitchen) were masked and gloved the entire time. The plantain chip nachos were a great and healthy way to incorporate a traditional ingredient into the dish. The guacamole had a lot of fresh lime and cilantro, so a nice acidic counterpoint to the beef and cheese. We tried two of the bowls, mine was shrimp with a nice spicy mayo, their yellow rice, a huge amount of shredded kale, and an avocado. My partner had their shredded chicken, rice, black beans, fried sweet plantains land added their fried Venezuelan cheese (be aware it's a massive slab of cheese if you use this add on). Large, filling portions. I also tried one of their traditional Venezuelan cocktails made with Venezuelan rum, passion fruit, lime, and sugarcane. Exceptionally well balanced, sweet without being cloying, just enough acidity, didn't drown out the flavor of the dark rum, and left just a hint of alcohol esters. We'll definitely be back, just hope we can catch the desserts next time, though I can see them moving away from those as they more fully embrace traditional fare. i grew up only a couple miles from here and it's nice to see such a unique place in the area.

I came here with the intentions on eating something very plain because I’m always afraid to try new things. When my husband invited me to dinner with his mom I quickly looked at the menu and agreed I was like sure worse case I’ll order French fries. I decided to order the Lomo Saltado. I’m so glad that I did. It was Amazing. Great flavor. I think the sauce had red wine in it. I got mine with French fries which was good for the sauce. Our waitress Vanessa was absolutely wonderful and helpful. I also tried some of the ponchos which I wasn’t so sure about but turned out to be delicious. Some things are a little pricey but definitely worth it. I totally recommend this restaurant and look forward to going back.

We’ve been a few times now and each time we are blown away by the service. We feel like we’re house guests when we walk in the door. The food is amazing and unique. I usually review a menu and only find a few items I’d like to try, but this menu has endless possibilities. The house wine is some of the best I’ve ever had in Michigan, it’s pure and light. We recently got the hot cocoa tower and it was so worth it! We split it between 4 people and had left over overs. There were so many goodies packed into it with so much detail. Bonus points for being family owned and operated!

This is a wonderful place that has some very tasty food. Never went to a Venezuelan restaurant. I oftened stopped by before my shift started at the hospital. I have been late a couple of time because of not wanting to leave. The owner Vanessa is wonderful the deserts are spectacular. They have such a wide offering of dishes. The fact that they offer paella and beef stroganoff is pretty neat

We drove an hour out to try this place. And it was worth it. The service, food, and atmosphere was top notch. Our new waitress, Kayla, took the time to make sure my mom had a vegan meal by double checking the dressing. The food came out great. We will be coming back to try to the paella, arepa, and the nachos. We had the seafood pasta, Venezuelan Pabellon with grouper, Angel Falls, and churros. The best part was having the owner take part in the process and interacting with the guests! Love this place! We will also have to try their famous milkshakes!

My family has been eating from Garrido’s for years now and they have been nothing short of wonderful! Their food is excellent and well worth the money, the service is amazing, and even during the height of the pandemic they were still making some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. I’m thankful I live close by and can eat here often, but even if I didn’t it’s completely worth the drive!

We decided to try Garrido’s for a taste of something different. It was a fantastic experience! Kayla (our server) was awesome and helped a great deal in choosing food based on dietary restrictions. The food was fresh tasting and the flavors were superb! A couple of us had Avila, the chicken was plentiful! One had a seafood dish and it looked fresh (she said it was excellent) and another had a kale dish. We were all full, had leftovers, and all in all, a terrific experience. Will definitely visit again.

  • 5/5 Amanda S. 7 months ago on Google
We absolutely loved the food! Our servers were very helpful and professional and on top of everything and what we ordered was fantastic. My husband said the casablanca seafood stew was amazing and some of the best food he has ever eaten. I loved the magnified pabellon - I tried the arepa bread on the side with it and it was wonderfully crispy and buttery tasting and the pulled beef and avocado and egg and beans and everything just work so well together. They had run out of the tequenos though but it was a Saturday evening so I guess that's not a surprise but they did get our meals out surprisingly fast considering day and time which we appreciated. Only drawback is it's very small and kind of loud with tiny tables so I can't honestly say it's the most comfortable vibe for relaxing. I think the prices are fair for the quality of the food and we would love to go back.

Upon walking into the restaurant, my wife and I were greeted. We were told to sit wherever we liked. Shortly after that we were given water and utensils. Waitress was knowledgeable, and polite. Went looking for a funky breakfast location instead of your regular boring diner and boy was I happy I did! We ended up at Garrido’s in Grosse Point Woods area; a small mom and pop Latin American restaurant! We strolled on in and upon looking at the menu we have already decided we need to come back for dinner. The homemade arepa breakfast sandwich was enough to bring me back, without even having to mention the mound of fresh berries atop stuffed French toast. Needless to say, I will be back and you should head there too!

Always a great experience. Food Is always fresh and on point. My favorite are the plantain nachos and the black bean areas. Nutella friend cheesecake also amazing but brace yourself it's a lot of Nutella haha. Their big sweet topped shakes are also really good though I feel they could use a lot less sugar. By the time you dig Down to the shake you don't have the energy to finish anyways. But always a great experience. Fancy interiors. Extremely nice service. I have been back a few times and will keep coming back.

You are not going to find friendlier service in any restaurant on the planet. The food was also amazing. The red sangria was delicious. If you haven't been here, you need to. You have to have reservations and I heard them tell a walk in customer that they also had a very long take out line. I can see why. Their food is amazing. Absolutely the best bread ever. The staff is fantastic and our service was wonderful even at the end of the night.

Churros don't seem to be freshly made (one of the worst I've had). No empanadas neither tequeños available. Dine-in appears to be impossible without a reservation and a waiting estimate con a paella with nearly no orders in is around 45min. As a Venezuelan, looking at +15$ arepas is shameful and something I don't look forward into.. but it could be the only thing that's on the menu right now that doesn't take a lifetime to make.
