I heard about Detroit Vegan Soul for quite some time so it was nice to finally get a chance to try it. I ordered the Soul Platter which consists of vegan Mac-n-cheese, smoked collards, maple glazed yams, black-eyed peas over rice, and cornbread muffin. I was worried about the mac-n-cheese but it was good. Actually, everything I had was delicious and comforting. I also enjoyed Green Life smoothie. I would definitely eat. Highly recommended.

Awesome place and food!!! In love😍😍😍!My husband and I had a great waitress! From the moment we step through the door, we were greeted very friendly.🤗 Thanks for the experience! I think this place deserves the stars given. However, one suggestion is, less salt on the mixed corn vegetables. We'll be back😬

The food is very inconsistent. My first time the food was phenomenal. But the more often I come the worst and worst the food & service is. Considering I’m literally ordering the exact same thing because my entire house hold is Vegan & my baby’s love it I make the hour drive because it WAS worth it. We most recently went & the food was DISGUSTING. The soul food platter had NO SOUL. Mac & Cheese - cheese less watery and loose. Red beans & rice OVERLY SALTED. Candied yams - no candy , dry & tasteless. The corn bread was harder than a hockey puck. And the catfish is HORRIBLE. From the texture to the taste and I’m an experienced Soy Tofu user. The only good thing we’re the collard greens but I did order 2 soul food platters 2 sides of candied yams ,2 sides of Mac & cheese, 2 sides of collard greens, 2 sides catfish & 3 additional biscuits. I have been calling & trying to speak with a manager but can only ever get in touch with “Lily” who tells me no matter the time of day that her manager isn’t available or I “just missed her” when I’ve called & left my number for a week straight. I’m outraged.

For someone who is not vegan, but want to take your mom out who is vegan, this was a wonderful choice. I enjoyed my meal and did not miss the meat. the string beans were delicious and fresh, the mashed potatoes were really good. My mom also enjoyed her meal. We agreed that we would be back to try some other dishes.

My favorite Vegan restaurant in all of Detroit for the last 2 years!! Every dish always has fresh ingredients and takes care of our soy free and gluten free people. The chefs are passionate about their creations and sharing amazing healthy food with this community. Absolutely worth trying and supporting :)

I love Detroit Vegan Soul. It's one of the best vegan options we have in Michigan by far. The food is superb and the staff is always friendly and kind. I've never been disappointed by my service or meal at DVS and I've been going for years!

The catfish was very impressive. It had a great flavor. I really liked the peach cobbler. My son is a vegan and he loved the bacon wrap. The staff was supper.

Let me just say that I am not a vegan. Wanted to try something new and different. That being said, i tried the Coconut BLT on wheat bread. It took me a minute to adjust to the coconut flakes. The red skin potatoes were absolutely delicious. I will come back just for those. Overall enjoyed the meal. I thought the service could have been more attentive. Perhaps, is this your 1st time here, recommendations, etc.

soul food is about feeling good. This food that is lacking in all chemical components that make soul food good, fat, protein and salt. Portions are small, not hearty. But all those hipsters still gunna eat it, so cheers. But it aint soul food, helll nah

I went to the location on grand avenue. We had the oyster mushroom Po boy with the sweet potato fries, macaroni and cheese and corn muffins. The food was excellent. The sandwich was delicious. Everything had to be done on line, but was easy to navigate. I was given a time I was suppose to have my order delivered and it came earlier than expected. I really enjoyed the food and loved that sandwich. I wish I had more time to experience the menu, but I’m from out of town.

Yummy food. The corn muffins were very small and the portions were pretty small for the price. However, the food, service, and atmosphere were all good.

Food was delicious. I got the Soul Platter. My first time eating collard greens. They were amazing. Sweet yams were good too. My wife got the tofu chicken with ranch wrap. She was very happy with her dish. The german chocolate cake was perfect. Not too sweet and not too rich. We ordered a second slice of cake to go. We'll be back soon. I want to try the catfish tofu dish next. Looking forward to it.

Had to do some business in Detroit. Coming in from Chicago. Whenever it's time to eat I look for a vegan spot specifically. My gf recommended this place. Funny thing is, she's never been here (yet)! The place is so good it was recommended by her friends that have been here. And they all live in California! Hey, word travels! 😉 I'm vegan and have tried MANY dishes and have been to several vegan restaurants. This place is primo! Saved on Google maps! Very nice facility. Wonderful warm atmosphere of soft caramel wooden chairs, style and tables surrounded and outlined with matcha green. Not too tight as far as seating but not overly abundant either. Wonderful staff. My waitress, Taylor, was on point when I asked for her recommendation. She was very warm and had nothing but smiles to give. Great service! I got the soul platter (which didn't take long at all to get; maybe because they're weren't that many patrons at the time) and I couldn't believe the taste. It was so on point! Beautifully seasoned with traditional spices in familiar for each dish. The Mac and cheese though could've been more gooey (still hunting for the perfect vegan mac-n-cheese HA). Other than that, the good would definitely satisfy the taste buds of even the most traditional of soul food eaters. And that "catfish" tofu with the tartar sauce was scrumptious! So much so, I ordered a catfish sandwich to go! Lol If you haven't been and can, visit! Get the platter and be happy in the satisfaction that you made the right decision. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Oh and I got the peach cobbler for dessert. Yummy!

I’m truly at a disbelief at the terrible experience I have received at your west/grand river location. I drove all the way from west Bloomfield and arrived at the location at 5:20 pm. I walk In, proceed to order. And I was told I couldn’t order by Lilly, I asked why...She states their not taking orders , and the orders stop at 5:30. I said cool I’ll order on my phone I have 10 mins. Then the lady with the half orange hair(refused to give me her name)over heard our conversation and yells NO! Kitchen closed at 5:15. Now I’m standing there looking confused. because I’m receiving different information from two different employees. And I know I’m being lied to. I said well I’m here, and it’s 5:20 you don’t close until 6 PM how are you telling me I can’t order? She proceeds to tell me with a nonchalant attitude there’s nothing she can do the kitchen is closed. So I walk out, sit in my car for a second and then I walk right back in and tell them listen I’m hungry the restaurant doesn’t close until 6 PM! I arrived 40 minutes before closing this doesn’t make any sense. By this time ANOTHER customer walks in and he’s agreeing with me like so we cant order what is the purpose Of the doors being unlocked and the restaurant and not closing until six? So the lady with the orange hair goes and grabs the cook from the kitchen to talk to me(I have no idea why.) (Now I’m in the lobby ambushed with three employees telling me I can’t order And I shouldn’t be in here. Also another employee was literally sleeping on the bench, legs kicked up since my arrival. let me not forget that.) He comes to the lobby of your restaurant and tries to justify why I can’t order. Telling me he has eight orders and he’s the only cook as if that’s any of my business!!!! And how unprofessional smh I told him I’m a customer and I don’t care! I arrived 40 minutes before closing! and I’m hungry ...I asked him what am I supposed to do? his suggestion was for me to go to Burger King! I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS MAN SAID THAT! He literally said that out of his mouth. My jaw dropped to the ground. Im in a ALL VEGAN restaurant! talking to a VEGAN COOK! and he suggest that I go to Burger King up the street! The Disrespect!!!!! I am hungry! I CHOSE Detroit vegan soul for dinner. For what? I wasted my gas,my time and energy by coming to a restaurant where employees can make executive decisions and practically close the restaurant down a hour before closing! As a business owner I would be furious! because I know for sure in that moment they turned away TWO customers! imagine how many people were before me, and after me.. there was still 40 minutes left! nothing takes that long to be cooked there! The public needs to know. I will report this type of behavior to the Better Business Bureau because this is ridiculous! I’m on my new journey..being a vegan and The service I received was so discouraging, disrespectful, and uncalled for. I came here to eat, isn’t that what you want? I frequent the East location and that was my first time coming on the west side and the disrespect I received from the girl in the orange hair and the cook by telling me to go to Burger King is crazy and sad. I had to leave there hungry and upset.

Great spot! I ordered the soul plater and wow did this dish not disappoint. Mac and Cheese, smoked collards, yams, cornbread, and black eyed peas. This favorite menu item is pretty popular and I can see why. The collard greens were full of flavor. Highly recommended.

First off, this is hands down some of the best soul warming vegan food out there. Mac n cheese was amazing and the "catfish" sandwich tasted so legit. I ordered online NYE and it was missing an item, but the restaurant was already closed. I'm super forgetful so didn't remember to get it taken care of until now. They promptly gave me a refund for the missing item and were super pleasant to deal with! Great place!

This place is extremely busy. To get in without a long wait you have to go at off peak times. The restaurant does not have that many tables but there is also countertop seating. I had the fried catfish. It came with potatoes and a veggie mix. It was okay and the sauce was good. The thing I didn’t like about it was that it was very salty. My boyfriend had the breakfast type wrap. He really liked that. He also liked the mac and cheese. I never liked that style of mac and cheese but I think it was executed as it was intended. They seemed to have some tasty sounding desserts but I didn’t get to try one. I gave the place one more star than I think it should have because I think it’s so awesome to have vegan restaurants around Detroit.

I came here with a group of 4 back in late March. We had 2 Vegans and 2 Onmis. Everyone absolutely loved the food! The service was on point too! I can't wait for my next trip to Detroit so I can have this amazing food again.

It was amazing! If you like all the sides then the Soul Platter is for you. Wasn't expecting the seitan peppersteak to be served over rice. Probably wouldn't have ordered it because I had the rice with the Soul Platter (under the black eyed peas).

inventive takes on soul food classics. my service has always been attentive, and i enjoy the food despite being a lover of the meat-heavy inspiration they are based on. cute neighborhood and ambiance as well

I didnt know anything about Soul Food, but have come here several times now. Very tasty meals and good kind service. The neighborhood is beautiful and it is easy to find by driving up Jefferson toward Pewabic Pottery, turn onto Van Dyke and just park right along Agnes. The neighborhood has one of those pretty names, too, tho sadly I have forgotten. But the food is the big deal, and the folksy service. I even got dessert as well. It is really worth the trip!

I am glad we beat the Saturday Dinner crowd! We nabbed a table and then people were queueing in the vestibule. They were out of a bunch of things, but that didn't detract from how great everything we had was. When they weren't able to make a frappe, our server said i could grab something at the coffee shop next door and bring it back, which was a great suggestion. It was hard to pick, everything on the menu looked ao good. The peppersteak was dead-on, melt-in-your-mouth, tasted almost exactly how my mom used to make it. The side of catfish was fantastic; no over-the-top, unnecessary upcharged production that you sometimes find in vegan restaurants. The coconut BLT was very good, coconut bacon is a winner. Definitely worth stopping by, and if we had been a little later and had to wait for a table, it would have been entirely worth it.
