A large group of us went axe throwing for the first time last Friday. To be honest, I was not really sure what to expect and was a little apprehensive. I'm not exactly athletic or adventurous but decided to give it a shot. First off, the place is really cool. Fun design elements, nice lounge, great food! The check in process was organized and simple. They were patient with us as our group arrived at slightly different times. Our axe masters were fantastic and explained the rules and safety practices. They provided individual instruction and tips as we each took our turns, and gently corrected mistakes. They kept us running smoothly throughout the whole experience. Honestly it would have quickly turned into mayhem without them. We all had a great time!! Here are a few things you may want to know if it's your first time: plan on getting there a little early as parking can be a challenge (valet parking available in the back alley), choose your outfit carefully (athletic clothes recommended and closed toe comfortable shoes required), this is not like bowling - you are going to be throwing the axe a lot more than you may expect, lastly but most importantly do not drink beforehand and really, really limit yourself during. It's no joke! Again, unlike bowling where you can imbibe throughout the games, this is dangerous and you can tell that you could get hurt if you're not 100% aware of what you're doing. Overall it was a really fun experience and the staff are fun, knowledgeable, well organized, and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend trying it out!!

So, so, so much fun!!! Our instructor was amazing and made it very enjoyable. We were all novices and he was a great teacher. Stop by and throw a couple axes and don't forget to stop downstairs at The Corner and play some board games and/or bar bango which is the best!!

Went on a Wednesday evening and had a BLAST! Axe throwing as a first-timer was fun. The staff was extremely helpful in teaching us. This spot has a cool vibe. They have great food and tons of drink options. They have a wall of games! Honestly, the game selection was the best part. Never a dull moment here!

Girls night out was so much fun at Detroit Axe especially with DAVID, our instructor! His personality was great! None of us had been before so we were a little nervous. DAVID made our experience fun. The food was delish. You have to try the chicken sandwich. The food came out fast and fresh. It's a good time. All is the staff was very friendly.

Unfortunately, there is not enough seating at the small table they provide you. They put us in a group of 8 total people, and there were only 4 chairs (if you don't book a minimum of 5 people, they may add an additional 8 people to your alley, so be sure to read the description). The ''Axemaster'' often asked us to back up, but this prevented other people from being able to get past us and get to their alley throwing area. The areas provided for setting down belongings were also either non-existent or severely limited. Beware visiting the lounge directly before your event, too. The lounge area was responsible for us being late to our event as the server took forever to get back to us. We had to ask a different server for our bill, and she merely dropped the bill off without allowing us to pay for it right then and there and we then had to wait for the original serve to eventually return. I highly recommend booking an event for 5 people even if you have less than that if you'd like to have an alley to yourself.

I liked the atmosphere. I think it's a great place to hang out and have some food. Aside from the axe throwing their are video games and board games. The selection of beer is ok. The liquor selection is a bit better. They have a few basic craft cocktails. The food was ok. The fireplace was a nice added touch

My wife and I celebrated our 6th anniversary at the Ferndale location on Sunday, April 30th and we had A BLAST! We had 5 people in our group, none of whom had ever thrown an axe before. Our axemaster Steve made us feel relaxed, gave us great training and made the whole experience a fun and funny time. Geoff, the manager, was very patient with my numerous emails about how many people were coming and other questions. I would tell anyone who wants to try axe throwing but is nervous or unsure about their ability, to put those concerns aside and just go for it. You’ll love it!

It was fine. We’ve been axe throwing at a few different places and this one was the most strict and boring. I don’t like that someone stands there with you the whole time telling you exactly what to do. We had all been axe throwing before and they wasted the first 30 minutes of our hour with the required practice throws. By the time we got to games, we had no time left, it was honestly really boring.

Love this place! The axe throwing was amazing! It was my first time trying it and the instructor was wonderful at explaining. The bartender was also excellent and recommended the Karaoke on Wednesday so we definitely will be back

Fantastic surprise for my son's 21st birthday last night! Axe Masters Steven and Alexander were top notch! Great teachers with a lot of humor and fun mixed in. We had a big group of 11 and the night went very smoothly. Lots of room to wait our turn before hand, easy forms to fill out online. Everyone from the Axe Manager who greeted us to the bar tender were all very nice. We will definitely make a return trip!! Thanks Detroit Axe!

A new experience that is not for everyone. I loved it! It helps with weight loss! Any place that has a bar and decent food is alright with me! The cashew kale salad was delicious! If you are looking for a different experience, try axe throwing! You just might enjoy!

So far... loads of fun. Lots of classic and new games to play while you wait to throw some blades. Solid MI craft beer choices, but surprised no national craft beer, like Stone, Alesmith or Bear Republic. Haven't had any food yet but menu looks fantastic!

Omgosh, this was so fun! Our instructor was the best! I can't remember his name but I do remember him saying he knew how to sew clothes and had created a costume for his wife. I would definitely recommend and can't wait to go back!

It was a fun event because of the people I was with. The staff were way too involved and constantly hovering in the background. I did axe throwing before but this time the staff was too strict and controlling and focused on being technical. One of the staff members did try to make it fun while the other one did not so much. In addition one of the targets was defective with some pine wood, much harder and not easy for the axes to stick in, a big reason why every person on that target lost their round or match. When I brought this to the attention of the staff they were not very receptive and did not seem to care. Because of all these reasons and since it is very pricey, I cannot in good conscience recommend this place. I am sure there are better places to go axe throwing with a better experience and a better price.

Detroit Axe - Ferndale was terrific!! If you looking for something different..then this is the place. We had excellent time. Safety was practice throughout evening, good bar food & drinks. Reservations are recommended as it does get crowed and people were turned away..ENJOY!! 😎

There is something therapeutic about throwing an Axe and hearing the sound of it cleaving into the wood after a stressful day or week. It is also alot of fun with a large group; the more competitive you all are the more fun it is. Awesomely helpful and knowledgeable staff gets everyone up to speed so you can start throwing. And just in case you are worried, Yes, it is safe. It just sounds dangerous.

Very fun! But also a very hot establishment, so be prepared. Everyone was nice and polite! The instructor I had, Matthew, was energetic and very fun. We got food after, and the quality was good. A little hectic in there, though.

Great location for some beers and axe 🪓 throwing- great bar and food! Enough parking in close distance.

Small place, so a reservation is best, but they do allow some walk-ins. You can order food from downstairs and it was delicious!! The Mac n cheese was so creamy and cheesy and you can get it with pulled pork on top... Definite winner.

Today was my boyfriend’s and I first time at Detroit Axe. Luckily, I made a reservation as it gets crowded. We had Chloe Matthew as our instructor and she was phenomenal and very informative. Her tips and tricks helped me to score more bullseyes and gain the confidence to keep going. Even though it was competitive amongst our peers, we all had fun and will definitely be back.

Terrific experience!! Our score keeper was Steve and he was flat out amazing. Everyone has a score keeper. This person works there, keeps your games rolling and ensures you're being safe while drinking and throwing axes. There's fencing around so axes don't fly around. If you're not throwing axes you can grab a board game, some dice, a puzzle or a deck of cards from their HUGE library of games and sit with friends and play. Have a bowl of sugary cereal (they have all your favs) too. Loved it and will be back.

This was my first time here (and ever throwing an axe!!) and it was SO much fun! We had a group of 10 and our axe master Rex was very patient, helpful, and kept us all focused on the game. I love that it was like a tournament with a bracket, so it created friendly competition within our group. Even when we were done throwing we stayed at the bar to talk and play games since this place has such a great atmosphere! I’d definitely come back even if it was just to have a drink or for date night since I had such a great experience! Great staff, tasty food, good drinks, what more could you ask for?!

I love this location. This location has a full kitchen and bar. Lots of games on the wall to play while you wait to throw the axe. Our axe instructor was Matt he was amazing he definitely enhanced our experience.

👍👍 About 95% of the wine I drink comes from Western Market. Their wine selection and the knowledgeable folks working the wine section make Western one of the best places to buy wine in metro Detroit. Prepared foods are excellent. They have recently remodeled and the store looks better than ever.
