So this location is participating in a program that allows for people to get a free meal when money is tight. I took advantage of this last night and it was amazing. With my husband not working due to illness our income has been severely reduced and this definitely helped. The food was delicious and the workers were extremely friendly. They didnt treat me less than a paying customer. We were given chicken dinners. It was a piece of breaded chicken on top of couscous with a cabbage slaw on top with a yummy sauce on top of it all. Delicious!!! Update: Ordered again and this time was given a beef and chicken option. Both were yummy. 😁

I had lamb ribs and the harrisa potatoes. So good. The rib had a nice flavor. I didn't know what to expect since I had never had lamb ribs. My friend got the chicken sandwich. She liked it. There was this other dish with eggplants I believe... It was good! My friend had that. And another friend got the shrimp! When I tell you those shrimp were fresh and hot (temperature wise) they were kinda like perfect! The owner and his mom are amazing. Such a nice environment! Very reasonably priced! I can't wait to go again.

We had a delicious meal at Saffron De Twah!! Chef Omar choose all the appetizers and two main courses and all were wonderful. The main courses, our big enough to split. The chicken sandwich was enough for three people. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is so so. Just be prepared. It’s not a finished off dining in restaurant experience. Definitely have reservations.

This is no ordinary place. I've tried the Hot Moroccan Chicken & Fried Fish during sandwich week to-go and dine in. Honestly, best huge! crunchy portion with juicy flavor I can recall in a decade. You certainly will be full if you eat it all. The fish is light but just as good!! There is so much I haven't tried, but even the orange blossom(gf called it fairy juice) was amazing. The hospitality was like home w great energy. I'm excited to come back! Do Not sleep on this amazing place!

Outstanding!! I had the loaded hummus appetizer with homemade pita chips, followed by a main course of eggplant beef tagine on a bed of couscous and vegetables, and, as a beverage, the orange blossom handcrafted lemonade. Exotically unfamiliar but deliciously incredible flavors, and friendly, impeccable service. The owner, Omar, actually sat down for a few and he told me all about the details of his dishes, his history as a chef and the incredible story of his business. i can not recommend this place highly enough!

An actual hidden gem that I’m astonished and overjoyed to have found nearby to where I live, but even if it were a longer trip I’d make the effort. The Moroccan sandwiches are award-winning apparently—my taste buds certainly celebrate them!—but my personal heaven is the cardamom cold brew latte that they brew with the finest grind of cardamom with the coffee grounds to make a drink that’s subtle and superior. I hope it somehow stays hidden while also getting plenty of business so it doesn’t disappear like the mirage this oasis feels like it must be…too good to be true 💯

So, let's start with the great: the food. Man, it was a good meal. I got the fish sandwich and I'd get it 10 more times this week it was so good. On the 'interesting' and maybe could be better but not bad is the way they've got the restaurant set up. You order at a desk inside and they bring the food to your table. There's only a couple tables inside and they're set as if for fine dining but next to crates of old pop bottles and back room stuff that creates a bit of a strange disconnect. The outside area is similarly a bit confusing. There's a lot of traffic noise and there's trash and water stations that seem very 'mess hall' in their feel but the tables and decorations say 'fine dining'. The downside came from the knowledge of the staff. We asked a question about something from the menu and the order person had to go ask the chef. (it was a pretty basic question) I then asked if she had any sugar free / diabetic friendly drinks besides water available and she told me that the case of imported drinks were all sugar free flavored sparkling water. Despite being in another language, I was able to see the first ingredient was sugar. I'm glad I checked! I can definitely see why the chef is a James Beard finalist, and the restaurant is good, but I feel like it can be just a bit better once they work out these little issues.

10/10 in every single aspect. Even if the food was absolutely terrible we’d still go back just for their amazing service and personality, but thankfully their food is also up to par. Every single dish we ordered had us wanting more which is really rare. If you’re in the Detroit area, this is a must try hands down

We really enjoyed our visit. We had the tomato, potato, & eggplant appetizers. The special vegetable tagine by chef Omar was terrific. Very homey atmosphere with a nice selection of kambucha.

Delicous Moroccan food in the heart of detroit. The lamb was very tender and full of taste. An employee came out to the car as soon as I pulled up which was great timing.

This place has got to be the most underrated one in town; they deserve more attention from locals. They certainly have it from the James Beard team as they're nominated for Best Chef in 2023. And rightly so; we had the Zalouk with pita chips, the Moroccan Chicken sandwich, and the Lamb Tagine...all delicious and nicely executed. Omar the chef is the one front of the house making sure all guests are well explained of the menu, and cared for. Looking forward to stopping in soon.

It's easy to see why the Chef Omar Anani is up for a James Beard award. Such an unassuming restaurant in an odd part of Detroit that I would never have expected it to be in but done so well that you don't feel like you are, where you are. I wanted to order everything on the menu but got the Moroccan Chicken Sandwich (Crispiest ever and extremely juicy and full of flavor) , Saffron Tomato Dip (it and the house made pita chips were AMAZING), and the Harissa Potatoes (great flavor and perfect spice flavor level) 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The Cold Brew Cardamom Latte was delicious as well! Definitely will be visiting many more times to try everything else.

Definitely wanted to try something different. so I Check this place first time trying Moroccan Food. I had the Harissa potatoes they were so delicious a must you have to try them and the fried fish sandwich was delicious the tangy sauce gave it that extra kick another item to order. You won’t be disappointed. My friend had the Lamb Tangine it was different just wasn’t for our taste buds. Hey you might love it. The parking is very limited. Stafff was very friendly.

Small cozy place with really friendly staff. It was our first time trying out Moroccan food and we loved it. The tea was amazing as well and they whole experience of pouring the tea was exciting. The owner takes time out of his busy schedule and talks to every customer which was pretty cool. Overall a must visit place if you’re in the area. Only negative was that the food wasn’t warm enough but it wasn’t a big deal once we started eating.

Really wanted to like the food but truly only enjoyed the potato starter and the lemonade drink. The hummus was missing tartiness, either more lemon or tahini; and the tagine was not well balanced, needed more seasoning and flavor, maybe some prunes with the lamb to add more character. The restaurant has potential and truly hope they get better!

We had a great first time at Saffron dining in! We were the only sit-in customers at 5pm on Friday, and we got our food really quickly, had nice conversation with the waiter and Chef Omar, and enjoyed the dinner very much! There is room for 3-5 small groups inside, and more seating in a covered patio outside. The road noise is pretty loud outside. We ordered tomato dip with bread, chicken tagine, carrot tagine, mint tea, and cheesecake. Everything was high quality and tasted homemade, wholesome, and healthy (except the cheesecake, but cheesecake isn't supposed to taste healthy! It was our favorite dish). Both tagines were really nice, but i think the chicken edged the carrot out in flavor. The congee base was a fun option, and it's faintly spicy but otherwise very mild. Great value for everything! Seems like their menu changes all the time, and Chef Omar has lots of cool ideas and collaborative projects with other local chefs. Definitely excited to go back!

First time coming here. I have heard so many good things so I had to try it. We got the fried potatoes which were tasty and crispy and these fried fritter things that are very very good and the sauce at the bottom is also quite good. The lamb tagine was good. I was expecting it to be more flavorful but it was tasty and I got it on couscous because I think that is what tagine usually is served on. It was more like a couscous salad with lamb on top. The dish was cold so I'm not sure if it was supposed to be hot or not. I liked it ok. The chicken tagine was out of this world amazing. The chicken didn't taste like much but the sauce is very flavorful and complex. Had that on top of the polenta and that just knocked it out of the park. I think it was supposed to have a salad on top but mine didn't include a salad. I kinda wished I got the lamb on the polenta. Note the lamb didn't really have a sauce. Got the fish sandwhich as well to give is a try and got everything on the side because we knew were were not going to be able to eat it today. The fish didn't taste like much on it's own but the sauces are good and that is where all the flavor is from. The bread is very very good and tastes like they are fresh. I think it is supposed to come with the soup of the day but there was no soup included. That said overall the food is really great and if you have not been here go and try it now. The staff were very friendly and kind. You can tell everyone enjoys working there. I love the way they are disrupting the resturant industry by actually paying a living wage and benifits for their staff. Chef Omar was even there and chatted it up with us. The take out containers were very flimsy. Be very careful if you order take out. The chicken tagine was the only thing that was super hot and it kinda disintegrated the container because with the sauce and the polenta it has a lot of liquid. I kept almost dropping and spilling everything especially the little sauce containers. The decor here is nice. I would have loved to dine in today but it was just too hot to eat outside. Definately will be back. I am going to be having dreams of the chicken tagine sauce and polenta.

Very friendly & personable service, with a great interior atmosphere to compliment. An intriguing new restaurant in Detroit in an unassuming neighborhood along Gratiot Avenue. Owner was great to talk with and I really enjoyed the meal we had, even learned a bit about Moroccan dishes & tea that I did not know prior. Definitely a cool place to check out!

Quaint, cozy little restaurant with spectacular food. Visited Detroit on a business trip and had a delicious lunch here on New Year’s Day. Spoke extensively with the owner who was accommodating and friendly, and let us in on his chef knowledge as well. The menu consisted of authentic Moroccan dishes, as well as some familiar foods with Moroccan flavors like the fried chicken sandwich and meatball sliders. If I happen to be in Detroit again I’ll definitely be back for that chicken sandwich.

There's not words enough for this little known gem. The food is amazing. The modern take on classic Moroccan with a bit of Texas (look at the beef rib) is unreal. Really would like to give this six stars!

Went here a few weeks ago after seeing pictures of the delicious food. I would highly recommend you take a trip down here and try their signature chicken sandwich it's almost as big as my head. The chicken is covered in breading and has coleslaw on top in between the buns. The meal will absolutely satisfy any craving you may have and honestly I did not need to order a side of fries because there was no room left in my stomach for it. If you do not like sweet sauce or taste with chicken however, I would not have this but try something else such as the meatball sliders (menu is in one of my pictures.) The place is a hole in the wall and recently opened to the public. The outside has parking probably for 5-10 cars max and seating inside is limited. The staff are friendly and nice, they answered all my questions and got the food ready to serve fairly quick. I went there once so far but am looking forward to my future visits.
