The food was great.. the chicken was tender, good and had a great smokey jerk flavor. The oxtails were the same and the jollof rice was pretty awesome too. I enjoyed the food and I would Def come back. Only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because I got some greens and there weren't any really there because underneath was more rice.. other than that it was good

Clean, comfortable, open and bright interior. The murals outside are stunning. Chairs were padded which was nice. Staff were fun, friendly and helpful. Food was quality, the chicken was perfectly spiced, tender and juicy. The chickpeas were crispy outside and soft inside. The plantains were sweet and spicy, with the perfect amount of char. &&& The coconut rice? OMG the coconut rice. It was the perfect vessel for all the things I listed above. Portions are generous, my husband and I split a bowl and it was enough for the 2 of us for a light dinner and cost about $17. I'd definitely stop in again next time I'm downtown.

I enjoyed the African/Caribbean atmosphere. My food was wonderful and full of flavor. It was my first time having Foo Foo, and it was smooth and creamy. Treated like mashed potatoes. I highly recommend this restaurant. Felt like home to me.

Yum Village is the definition of Soul Food! The food is Amazing and the Flavors are Incredible! This is definitely our top 5 restaurants in Detroit for Amazing African Food! They have something for everyone. Our Favorite Vegan dish is the Just Plants Combo with Tumeric Rice. Wash it All Down with one of Nikkies Fabulous Teas! 💚😎💚

Very tasty, super flavorful. I really love the plantains. I appreciated the fact that they don't hold back on the spiciness. The space has a really cool ambience. I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

Good food. Sometimes very spicy. I think it might be healthy also.

Enjoyed the food. Had an online order that was suppose to be ready by 6:30 but it seemed like they didn't start the order until I got there at 6:30 so didn't get my order until after 7. Food was good to me as I have roots in West Africa though it was too spicy for my family.

I go here often for the oxtails, hadn't been here in about a couple of months since I knew how expensive the dishes were, but they were worth it. And I have to say, the food quality went DOWN.😬 Its scary. Idk if they let a cook go, but the oxtail stew isnt really a stew anymore, it's just oxtails sitting in soupy water😳. Very nasty, they don't taste the same at all, and the chewy consistency makes me think it's a bit raw, since there's no spices in it. Almost 30 dollars waste, tbh.

The food is good and It’s Nice to try something different but it doesn’t taste that fresh all the time. A lot of hit and miss. They have a cool chef and I also met the owner he’s a pretty cool dude. Prices not too bad, people in the front are kinda ghetto and don’t really suggest any foods. Parking in the rear. Would be a really nice spot if they switched up the staff and be consistent with the quality.

Love Yum Village. But not today. My large order of Truffle Greens don't look the part. Barely half full. Plus entire food order wasn't hot. Called the restaurant (twice). 1st person I spoke to put me on hold after I asked about the greens then call dropped. Called back, got another person, who said I was talking to a manager. Tried asking again about amount of greens for large size, and person hung up. Oh well, maybe they're too busy to troubleshoot customer inquiries about their food quality and portions. Sigh 😕

I got the curry goat, which was very flavorful but had a lot of empty bones. Plantains were different, sweet, and sticky. But part of my order was missing, which was my fault for not checking my bag before I left. Another customer had just complained about their order missing an item. Tasted the fish stew which was delish, going back for that!!

THIS IS SOME OF THE BEST FOOD IVE HAD IN MY LIFE. PERIOD! I definitely think I’ve found my new favorite restaurant💗 I got the plantains, chickpeas, jerk chicken, and jollof. I’ll definitely be back and I can’t wait for them to become the “West African version of Chipotle”! 10/10 food was fresh, just the right amount of spice and sweetness. The vegan banana pudding and bottled drink were very good according to my friend who has some dietary restrictions.

I got a custom order of Tumeric rice, Lemon pepper jerk chicken (Bone-in), with Yam stew + Truffle Greens as sides. All of it tasted flavorful. I never had yam stew like that before; it's a great savory side + honestly a meal I would get by itself. Now, I think all Greens should be truffle greens. Some cons I have are that there's no menu displayed over the counter, so customers need to look at the menu online while in line. Also... Even though I ordered "bone-in chicken", I wasn't expecting some of the tiny bones. Now I know to be careful while chewing or get boneless next time. But I do think this place should do better to prevent the choking hazard 😅. Overall, pretty awesome food! (Edit: Also wanted to mention: To use the restroom, you gotta ask a worker to unlock it at the counter.)

It was our first time there and we were not happy to hear there was a 30 minute wait for our food but the owner pampered us and the food was very much worth the wait! Will absolutely be back!

Really good blend of Afro Caribbean plates that come prepared as a combo or create your own entrees. I decided on the quickbite of the classic village combo that came with jerk chicken, jollof rice, plantains. Wow is all I can say! I got really good portions for a little over $13, enough for me to save for later. The spicy flavors of the jerk and rice paired perfectly with the fried plantains to tone down the spice. Each bite gives you bold flavor and freshness. The jerk chicken was really tender. All meat is Halal and they have Vegan and Gluten Free options as well. I had my food with one of their long beach lemonade to-go cocktails, it was sweet but with a nice kick that left me satisfied. Great customer service that was willing to help you decide what to order in case you can't decide what to have. The dine in style was fast casual dining which I'm not much of a fan of but it does perfect for a quick bite during lunch hours in a rush. They also have outside dining seating during the warmer months and currently still in October that is great for nice days to sit for lunch on busy Woodward Ave. Overall I'd definitely recommend Yum Village if you're looking for traditional Afro-Caribbean meals with new pairings and recipes that all come together perfectly.

The cashier was friendly, the food was fresh, well seasoned. I was very pleased with the meal. I even ordered additional okra and corn cakes to go. I was very pleased with my experience, will return again asap.

Amazing food! The owner Godwin is always super lively and happy. The jerk chicken was amazing and the Jollof rice was a good side. Make sure you get the ginger chickpeas as a side, they’re outstanding. I’ve been 5 or 6 times now and will definitely be back!

I ordered the hot bowl with the honey mustard sauce in my bowl. It was not enough sauce. Also the chicken is burnt so bad that the chicken tasted like char. African Cheesy Bread was really good. I only come here for the hot bowl but it seems the effort grilling the chicken correctly has lacked in many ways… and I have decided it is worth not returning.

This place is one of the only west African restaurants in the area- and the food is pretty good for what it’s worth. I got a jerk chicken platter with sweet plantains and jollof. The jerk chicken was good, though the sauce was a little sweeter than what I’m used to. The jollof didn’t taste traditional, it was more like seasoned rice but it went well with the chicken. I wasn’t a fan of the sweet plantains- I know it’s in the name but they were wayy too sweet. I also was not sure why there were banana peppers on the top of the meal- felt like a random add. Bumping a star because of service- I ordered and after 40 minutes of waiting went back up and I was told they never put my order in- even though I paid. I had to go up two times before they started preparing my order, and it seemed like I was inconveniencing them rather than the other way around. All in all I’m West African and have tasted some really good jollof so I think my standards are a bit higher. But if you want to try a Black owned restaurant and you don’t have a history with the food, then I’d recommend.

It was my first time visiting this business. I had heard a lot of good things about the food and I wanted to try it, but it was a bit of a disaster. The Hibiscus tea drinks and Akata balls  with the mango sauce were good.  Unfortunately, the spicy beans were another story. I ate half of it and decided to take the rest of the home. Within 15 minutes on my way home, I experienced bubble guts. I had to rush to another business to use their restroom and stayed there for 20 minutes. My stomach still was uncomfortably churning, so I had to take a Lyft ride to go home and pray that I didn't have an accident.  That incident made me so relieved to get home. My family and friends, after hearing about my symptoms, which lasted until the next day, informed me that I was dealing with a possible food poisoning.  I have always had a strong stomach, but that incident was something that I had not experienced in many years, and I never had it from restaurant food before this particular incident. I reached out to the business, but I did not hear back, and since that was the case, I won't be back!

My daughter and I tried this place for the 1st time yesterday evening. One of the employees (I'm assuming..could have been the owner) greeted us at the kiosk and explained everything to us with a smile. Put us at ease immediately. We ordered the jerk chicken combo and oxtail combo to go. Everything tasted awesome. Very flavorful, fresh, hot, and "yummy"! We will definitely be back!

I ordered build your own bowl via Uber Eats on a bogo. The presentation was nice and the food was very flavorful. It did say the dirty rice had red beans in it with turmeric. I didn't see any beans that's why I removed a star. I'll definitely try them again.
