Came in to try a new shop and I was really impressed. I got a 2-1 fade by Jose and his work was incredible. My favorite hair cut in months. He was friendly, great with conversation, and clearly exceptional at his profession. The shop itself has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff and I was a fan of the music. Overall a great experience

Amanda at the Ferndale location has taken care of me a couple of times and has always done a great job. Today she cut my Dad's hair and shaved his beard (he was looking like Grizzly Adams) and did an exceptional job, taking all the extra time needed without blinking and he looks wonderful and feels even better. Thank you, Amanda!

Very nice, clean and personable. However I had to remind him for a straight razor shave. (Very frustrating since I scheduled for it) I wanted a half fade and the razor was barely used. (Very low fade) My ear was cut and nothing was said while he scrambled to get it to stop bleeding. Lastly, my fade is MEH, one side isn't straight at all. Overall the price was definitely not worth the service The search for a good barber continues.

Austin is the best! Very easy going, personable, does an amazing job and flat out a great guy. Been seeing him for about two years and wish I have started sooner since he knows how to deal with my Princessness. Austin is the best and my main guy when coming here. Perfect haircut every time. He thinks he’s funny even though he’s not, so you just have to pretend to laugh at his jokes. The building is very cool inside and is always playing great music. Friendly staff. 10/10 experience.

First and Last time I will come to this barber. I personally have only ever been to a barber’s once, which coincidentally was also my first time at detroit barber co. I went in to get a beard trim because I had a college graduation celebration to attend to, I wanted my beard to look crisp and professional for photos with my family, friends, and other loved ones. When I first got there I had a good introduction, the staff/lady behind the counter was helpful and guided me to the barber I had been scheduled with. The atmosphere at first was giving me a good vibe but then I was guided upstairs to where my barber was stationed. The upstairs portion of the building looked unprofessional and as if someone was running a barber shop out of their own house. I get it, spacing is tight and the barbers working their might have had different levels of professionalism/experience affecting where they may be stationed, although, for being such a highly rated barber shop I feel as though they should at least fully furnished the entire building… anyway, that’s beside the point. When I first was introduced to my assigned barber he seemed nice and was helping 2 gentleman, one was getting a cut and the other was a friend waiting for his turn. It turned out my appointment was booked right between the two appointments so my barber was rushing my trim to get to the other customer who’s friend was waiting for him. All in all, the appointment scheduling was odd and my trim was rushed. My barber didn’t even use a straight razor, just an electric trimmer, and I left with an uneven beard, one side being higher/lower than the other so I ended up finishing the trim at home. What a waste of $20 for what I ended up fixing at home. My assigned barber was Ajee.

Ryan at the Ferndale shop has been my go-to for over a year now. He gives me a great cut every time. When it’s just a regular cut he gets me in and out quickly while giving me exactly what I am looking for. Recently, I just had the works done for my wedding cut, beard trim, and straight shave around the edges of my beard. The service is always great. One thing I really appreciate is the way Ryan treats anyone who comes through the door while I am in the chair. He welcomes everyone, regardless of their ability and takes the time to help those that are not as able.

I found Austin here after reading through reviews and seeing one that he cut women's hair and did a great job. I am so glad I took the chance to book with him. The cut was drastic and turned out exactly like I wanted. Not only was the cut fantastic, but Austin was so fun and personable. The shop is very cool and their products are amazing.

Keonte cut my hair and the cut was on point. I’m a female with a short short cut and I did not have to give instructions. Clean up was good. Joint clean. Made appointment and no wait time. Keonte is my future barber. Thank you!!!

I want to clear up a review I saw here about Austin T. While you most likely will get a "lucky" outcome shortly after visiting him, you have to realize the attention he puts into your cut will continue those results long after your cuts. He keeps you looking fly in both the short and long term, the haircut equivalent of investing in crypto and real estate at the same time. Despite looking like an out of work pirate, this man does you right and I can't recommend him enough.

This place has cancelled my appt at least 5 times or you wait even when making an appt pretty much every time. No offer of a discount or any type of customer service when cancelling. Depending on who you see they all have a different idea of the haircut you want. The price should be $10 less for the service you receive. The results don’t justify the price I get home and touch up my hair every time ive went. It’s an overpriced BoRics with a cool building. I’m not going back

I would assume my haircut was an outlier from the other reviews. However, this was a horrendous experience in almost every facet. I asked for a taper fade to be taken down to a one guard on the sides and my hair evened out on top; when I left the hair on the sides and back of my head was still nearly two inches, and the top not even remotely evened out. The most maddening aspect of all was that this took over an hour for a 30 minute appointment. The other barbers upstairs cut a combined five people in the time it took me to get something that I did not ask for. Not only was my haircut a complete disappointment, but I was running so late I could not even ask for any adjustments. On top of this, my barber made me extremely uncomfortable by leaning into my shoulders and arms excessively and repeatedly pressing herself into me. This was a complete waste of time and money for me. I hope others have an experience similar to the mostly positive reviews I here.

Day gave my son a taper . Very knowledgeable barbers . He had a handful working on his head but did a excellent job. Much appreciated.

Today was my first time there. He is my barber was great. I have never interacted with any barber as much as I did with her (introverted/extrovert). She had a great personality and definitely will be making this my go to barber shop from now on!

This, morning I had a appointment for a haircut, at your barbershop. The, barber I had gave me an excellent haircut. He, was very friendly and pleasant. My, haircut was a Buzz Cut. The, barbershop was very clean, neat and spotless. This, is going to be go barbershop. I, am a former customer from Steven B's before Steven B's closed permanently. Detroit Barbers Barbershop is the Best 👌 👍.

I’ve tried a lot of barbers at this place and overwhelmingly, they were good. In my book, though, the best is Tee in Ferndale. The way he blends different lengths, his knowledge of the profession, and his easy conversational style set him apart from the rest. He gave me a drop fade today and I look ten years younger! Well, I would if it weren’t for my gray beard. The haircut looks great, though. Thanks Tee!

Austin is a g and usually my main barber. I always seem to get lucky within 48 hours of him lining me up. Great building that still maintains some older elements that remind me of my grandfather's shop back in the day. Solid. I go there whenever I'm able.

Update: thanks for the reply but no I didn't actually select her I selected an executive cut and there was no name to select... I came in and was given to her and she obviously must have been new because she was obviously being treated like she was a beginner but thanks for the reply like I said I won't be back.... Couple months back I came in for a haircut, had just above shoulder length hair and wanted it back short again...simple ask really. Have had this done at a few other local shops with no issue...This time I was on my way to a business trip and thought I could come in for a fresh cut from "pros" So I walked in and was given to a barber who was female barber obviously training, needless to say they felt super unconfident and had to keep waiting to show another senior barber my hair...then he walked away to have a cig., then asked again and at this point he started showing her how to cut... this was literally the worst experience! then he walked away as she continued, she asked for him to take a look and he was like "you got this" and let her keep going... At that point, I had to stand up out of my chair and ask the senior barber to take over!! I said "I came here because you are a barber shop, you guys are supposed to be experts but I really am not feeling that way" Barber was put off and "sit in my chair and I will finish..." All this after booking an executive barber cut, receptionist automatically charged for a regular cut which is the most positive I can say about the entire ordeal! Vibes were off as well, atmosphere was cold and not a fan of other barbers sitting there looking as my hairs getting cut complimenting the barber "I love watching you cut bro" Felt like I was at Aveda school.... PS: I tipped both the girl in training and the other barber, but would never return if that's the norm

I got haircuts over the last two years.. they were good before but recently it almost feels like they are trying to get you going as soon as possible. The barbers used to get you the towel and neck shave but the last couple of times they didn’t ask and actually ended the cut but I had to ask for it.. I mean for 35 bucks a cut, atleast ask is all I am saying

Been coming here for a year and having my beard and hair trimmed by Ryan. This is not a great clips or bring your young child place. This is an old school barber shop that offers hot shaves with great topics for conversations. If you sport a beard make this a stop and see Ryan and check out their products.

Don't really want to leave the barber's name but terrible work. I did not see any of the haircut until the very end and by that time the damage was already done. My hair is not that difficult to cut, it's a simple low fade with an inch off the top but somehow this man managed to butcher the cut. The back of my hair has all these strange cuts that will take a month to get to a fixable length. This man took an inch from one side of my hair and did not touch the other side. I only noticed this after I got home but it really should have been obvious to any barber who has cut hair at least once. Even the fade, which is probably the most common cut in the country now was uneven, again, this was hard to notice in the store while my back was to the mirror the entire time. Maybe this specific barber was just bad at his job but would for sure never visit this place again. It was honestly shocking how careless this guy was when cutting my hair, using only one hand at all times.

I have been here many times and usually have a great experience but today I booked with a barber I’ve never use. I came in and they explained I’d need to leave because they did not know how to cut my hair? That seems a bit incredulous to be seeing as I have very common hair meaning it’s thick but straight and just needed a trim. Felt some kind of way about it. Won’t be using that barber again that’s for sure.

Tee is the best there is. I am very picky about haircuts. Went in in looking for someone after my barber relocated. Tee is now the only one allowed to cut my hair. From the top tier service to his super welcoming personality, I can’t recommend him enough!

I went in hoping I was going to get a nice haircut and that wasn't the case. I am even ashamed of posting a pic of how I left the barbershop, as soon as I got home I had to blend the haircut myself with my own clippers. The shop is really nice but this is the last time I am getting my hair done there.

Took my son to get a hair cut here right before Christmas. Barber went straight to shaving his head (he’s 2.5) and we said no! That’s not what we wanted. End result is an awful “fade” and choppy miss-matched cut on top. I ended up chasing my toddler around the entire next day cutting inch long chunks of hair out of the top of his head (which is supposed to be about a 1/4 inch long). He looks ridiculous. Have to wait a few weeks for it to grow out so we can go and get it fixed!

I was pleased to receive plenty of advice regarding recommended cuts, particularly from his.In addition, the staff were friendly, the premise comfortable and the overall prices for the cut represented good value for money.
