This is honestly one of my favorite state parks in Michigan. It's densely wooded and offers many different trails to venture down. The trail markers are easy to follow and if you go there under the right conditions you're bound to see plenty of wildlife. Our state offers tons of places like this that are worth checking out, but don't come up in conversations as often. Once I hiked through Proud Lake that first time I knew it would be a place I would return to time and again.

A great place for a family camping trip. The rest rooms are super clean, brand new tile, with two shower heads (a small one for kids, and big one for adults.) The lake is only a short walk from the campground. They have a designated swimming area, and a separate boat launch. People were having good luck catching small mouth bass and walleye. There are nature trails into the proud lake nature trail, as well as a bike path. The camp rangers kept the place sparkling clean,, cleaning both in the morning and at night. Overall great place to let your kids explore, and great for family camping!

Beautiful calm place to kayak or canoe in Michigan. A must do if you're in the area. Our kayak rental was for 2 hours but they have all day long kayak trips depending on how much time you have available. You can bring your own kayak/canoe or rent from them. I think it was about $30 per person for the two hours

We camped here for memorial weekend and it was a very nice campground. a lot of the sites are unlevel but we were able to level our trailer using the tongue jack. The lake has swimming and canoe and kayak rentals. The mountain bike and hiking trails are awesome. There is a very well manicured loop about a mile away with a trailhead parking lot that you can ride to via trails from the campground. The lake has good fishing. Basketball and Gaga ball courts were a hit with the kids. Modern bathhouse was very nice.

Nice hike through an often busy nature area. Lots of fun flora and fauna to see. A little run down, but reasonable enough in a populous metropolitan area. Trails are not well marked, but eventually you’ll get to where you need to go. Fishing the river is generally good for warm-water species. The squeamish might want to avoid the early season when the Frankenfish are released!

Beautiful lake with access right at the park. There's kayaks and canoes for rent, and a campers only beach. The park was extremely congested, so I didn't get any pictures. The campsites are close to each other, our neighbors fire pit was right outside our window. There's nice walking trails and clean bathrooms/showers. Overall, it's a decent park with an abundance of nature.

Absolutely gorgeous, and lots of dogs on the trail today. Colors are at their peak, and there's no better place to see them than Proud lake. Our dogs get a nice walk that tires them out. Breathtaking views!

Site 26 is not a good place for tents when it rains. There is only one flat spot and the rain water runs right to it. The whole site is on a pretty good incline. Nice clean campground though.

I reserved The Trillium cabin through proud lake recreation.. sleeps 6 people huge deck 100.00 a night minimum 2 nights..Loved this place overlooking the Huron River.. Grill, fire pit, picnic table chairs out house then bathrooms a stone throw away but negative no shower on site gotta drive 3 miles to proud lake campground. And the water was filled with duck poop and seaweed so we swam up river across the street..Besides that it was a blast you can rent canoes go kayaking hiking.. And right across Wixom road more trails more swimming and hiking..There's another cabin next to trillium named Ivy smaller deck besides everything is the same just in case you want more than 6 people per cabin great adventure well worth the money

I had a great time. Kayaking was so much fun! The lakes are amazing. The campsite we had was huge. The shower water was ice cold ao that was a bummer. And the poison ivy was so bad. If you walk down the staircase to the swim area, beware. That posion ivy is sticking out through the steps and it will touch your ankles. The trails we had behind our site were also being used by people and that sucked cause there were kids literally riding their bikes Through Our campsite. I mean, we paid for that site up against the woods to have more privacy and not have people walk through our site. But, we still felt like there was No camping etiquette when it came to respecting boundaries. Personally I'd never walk through someone's site. That's just selfish. But I do recommend camping here. Hoping we'll eventually find our fave spot.

highly recommend! very well kept trails, trail markers, maps. wonderful scenery to boot! Good trails for walking and excellent for cross country skiing id imagine! The only reason for 4 stars and short term visit, is because you have to have a permit for your vehicle to visit state parks in Michigan state parks. :( being from Tennessee, I've never heard of something like that. Permits aren't very expensive. just an inconvenience for out of town visitors.

I honestly haven't been here since I was a kid. But it is wonderful to visit. My family used to rent a canoe at one end, you get to travel up a river for half the day, maybe do some fishing. When you get the Dam you have to lug the canoe over it, but the dam itself is a chill out spot for relaxing and swimming in the drop off. After that keep going till you feel like turning around. It's a great way to get through a day. I miss those times thank you so much I love this park

Beautiful spot, nice trails, good map system! Update 2/2023 Not as many people, just as beautiful trails. A little muddy from river and melting snow but I expected that and wore proper shoes.

Love this campground so much! Large sites, nice bathrooms, great spot to catch fish for our small children. We all had a great swim in the refreshing water on hot days as well. The only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is a playscape, but there's plenty of other things to keep them entertained as well.

Love hiking and kayaking here with my family and dog. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. I like the trail along the river. The boardwalks are decaying and seem dangerous in some areas so do be careful, otherwise the trails are pretty smooth. There are picnic areas and outhouses, some kept up better than others. Plenty of trail markers. Wear good hiking shoes and I always make sure I have snacks and water for the longer trails.

Great park with tons of trails, beautiful scenery and informative signs along the trails. Probably a given knowing Michigan, but I forgot both times I visited... bring bug spray!

I recently visited Proud Lake Recreation and had an amazing time. The park is absolutely beautiful, with plenty of trails to hike and explore. The lake is also a great spot for fishing, kayaking, or just enjoying the scenery. I was particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the park - everything was well-maintained and looked great. The staff were also friendly and helpful, providing us with maps and suggestions for things to do. Overall, I would highly recommend Proud Lake Recreation to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing outdoor experience.

Other comments have posted about bringing extra blocks to level your camper with, Believe them!! We had to get cinder blocks for site 112!! Other than that it was a nice camp. Very clean, bathrooms were always clean! The shower rooms were very nice. I will say we had trouble with the on site kayak rentals but that could have just been the day. While there is no playground my kids of different ages always had stuff to do. Will definitely go back

Put the kayaks in at boat launch. Paddled around the lake and a couple miles down the Huron. Weather and water was great, the paddle was easy. Will definitely return for a lazy paddle day. We didnt use any facilities or the campground. I have however hiked most of the trails. Trails and boardwalks are excellent. Easy hikes for all levels.

What a nice place to take our Scout Troop. There are a lot of eagle Scout projects here which makes the connection even more special. Very nice pavilions and bathrooms. There are multiple fire pits and plenty of room to set up tents. We didn't know that there were two sites there for the pines collection. Had we known better, we would have stayed in the lower site. Both sites are equally good for camping, but the bottom one is better because it is next to the river 🙂

We love the marsh trail. It is the perfect 30-40 minute walk. We often see frogs, swans, ducks, chipmunks, and other wildlife. There is a small observation deck 2/3 around.

It's so beautiful especially taking those walks in the woods. It's the most amazing experience and I'm not use to living in nature but this is the best decision. Cause i get to experience this with my friends, family, and/or by myself.

I was hesitant to even review this place because I selfishly wouldn't mind it flying under the radar BUT the trails here are beautiful. One of my new favorite spots to take the pup in southeast Michigan.

Clean, serene natural beauty proving you don't have to travel far for a relaxing vacation. They also offer a couple of mini cabins if tents aren't your thing. Try it, you'll love it!!!💚💚💚🌞

This is beautiful. I haven’t spent much time but I did a quick tour and it is serene and beautiful. On my list for next year summer exploration. DAM is a small dam. It is good but don’t be surprised to see that it is small in size.

  • 4/5 Danny D. 3 years ago on Google
This place has lakes, hiking, biking, trails, woods, fire-rings, and wood available. Lots to do and fun. Tents, trailers and motorhomes all enjoying the place. Only comment for improvement would be to bulldoze some of the sites for level so you don't have to jack so much. Otherwise wonderful experience.

👍 Great place to spend the day! Lots of fun! Only thing I would change would be having parents pay to go into the splash pad and waterslide area to only watch their children.... should have bracelets or something. Other than that, it's a beautiful beach
