I didn’t visit the museum but took the Saarinen House tour, which began right outside of the museum. It was led by Elena, a highly knowledgeable and well-versed guide, which I’ve mentioned in my review of the house. The architecture of the museum & library is truly stunning, whether you’re standing right below the roof or looking at it from the other end of the pond. It was raining when we visited but the gardens and buildings looked so beautiful in the rain! I would love to come back to visit the museum and Cranbrook House!

Gorgeous campus with beautiful facilities. The entrance is tucked away in the back. Parking is limited so be careful when planning your trip. Plenty of open trails to walk in the surrounding woods and explore the fountains. Science/History museum nearby.

First time going to Cranbrook Art Museum was really great. Enjoyed all exhibits and especially liked the people throughout the museum who have additional information to share readily. That absolutely made the visit fantastic! I really enjoyed learning about the artists and their works in depth! Great experience - I am glad I joined as a member!

Very well curated small museum situated in a middle of a local architectural and landscape marvel. The current exhibition, "Skilled Labour" is definitely worth seeing. It is mostly large canvases, masterfully crested by local artists. Impressive. We usually visit Cranbrook a quite a few times a year, usually not in the winter, but I have to say it definitely unlocked a different level of beauty to this remarkable estate.

It is part of the prestigious Cranbrook Private School. One of the two- three prestigious private schools in Detroit. Inside a sprawling 300 acre campus which has this Co-educational School, you have the Art Museum and the Science Museum. This is a small museum. We came away impressed. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a small museum on the beautiful grounds of a campus: elementary and secondary schools, plus the Art Institute offering advanced degrees. I don't know for sure, but judging from our single visit - a one-woman show - preference might be given to alums. This would not be a problem, given the quality of the work at this exhibit. If I lived in the area, I'd for sure be a member and visit frequently

We went to a family day on a Saturday with grandparents and four kiddos. The exhibitions were very nice, and the kid activities were okay, but I kind of expected a little more from the Cranbrook for a family day. They had a minigolf which looked like fun, but definitely not worth the extra $16 per adult to play!

Very small exhibit area ( only took twenty minutes to walk through) but some neat art on display. There was so much more to see in the area, but we ran out of time.

Every time I've been to the museum, I've seen wonderful art that I wouldn't have seen anywhere else. The descriptive signs and videos of the artists are very informative. A feast for the eyes and mind.

This was by far out of this world, Michigan has a gem, this art museum was such a wonderful place that would take anyone in a journey thru the ages, am soo glad i got to spent a day here, is the perfect place to spend a day out of all the outside stress, tho the museum was closed due to a water damage, the surroundings where still worth the time, i invite people to go and enjoy this wonderful place, is worth it, is gorgeous and most of it free :))) 1 thing : enjoy your time to anyone who goes there :))

Cranbrooks summer mini golf is a MUST GO!! We went to enjoy the artist created 11 hole mini golf course. Inspired by locations events and even concepts the eleven holes are very original. Each hole gives you a little history about the creator and the creation, and even a helpful hint on the hole. Very fun for the whole family. $15 pp covers golf and entry to the museum which you can use the same day or any day after.

The art museum on its own is a nice attraction... But the four stars reflect the inclusion of the grounds and the artwork contained there as well. May want to see what exhibits are currently on display as that will greatly influence your opinions.

Best thing about going to Cranbrook are the well maintained grounds. The art museum on the other hand cost like $15 just to get in and doesn't hold a candle to the DIA. Haven't been in the science museum yet but I am guessing again that it pales in comparison to the Detroit Science Center.

    Just beautiful

  • 4/5 Danikapricorn 1 year ago on Google
Fun enough, but the cost seems a bit high when you could go to the DIA and see established artists and even older works. Definitely more contemporary if that's your style! The Eye of Horus by B. Durden made the entire trip worth it for me.

We played miniature golf here and it was awesome! The sculptures were so cute. The wait wasn’t too bad. We have been to the art museum several times and it’s always interesting. There have been some exhibits I feel were a little bare.

We visited during the student art exhibit and it was absolutely wonderful. I found it to be equally as enriching as a visit to the DIA. It was awe inspiring to see such beautiful and top caliber work from local artists and students. The campus is beyond beautiful as well. It would be awesome if they could duplicate this environment and opportunity within the city of Detroit. There is so much untapped talent at both the high school and collegiate level that unfortunately is not exposed to opportunities like this. The Marygrove campus would be perfect ❤️

The outside has beautiful sceneries and a nice trail which is free! To go inside the museum, tickets are relatively cheap ($8 for adults) but honestly there isn't a lot to see. Service was spot on though!

Interesting place. Not what I'd expected. I'm more into sculptures and oil paintings. Docents were friendly and answered my many questions. The most fun I had was enjoying the sculptures on the grounds. Handicap accessible doors off one of the parking lots.

Went through museum. Wasn't impressed. Kind of cliche and sparse. No great works. More of a student center and modern stuff.

Beautiful museum and they were super helpful and friendly.

  • 3/5 Danie T. 3 years ago on Google
There was nothing wrong with the museum. The indoor art was a little out there (even one of the workers said a lot of the art made no sense to her). Maybe it's just me and that I dont understand how to appreciate art. But, I will digress. The outdoor art was a bit better though it was very cold and we didnt stay long. The picture is of my favorite piece from indoors.

Crazy beautiful grounds & buildings, statues, on an amazing fall day led into a very well curated set of exhibits, including many alumni. With a visual disability, having an aural soundscape from some of the work made the time deeper and more meaningful. Well done!

Love this place. The grounds around the museum are amazing. There is fountains and pools all over the place. The museum has a great collection and always host terrific exhibitions. Also the archives at the museum are a must see. They might be even cooler than the museum exhibitions.
