πŸ‘πŸ‘ Very nice place to visit. Especially when they have the gun performance. Very cool! Ticket was cheap, about 4-5$ to go inside the museum and the yard. Highly recommend to visit once. People often mention history, visit, great, time, staff,

Fabulous heritage site with a lot of information about the War of 1812. My husband and I visited on a Sunday in August and saw various demonstrations of musket fire as well as cannon-fire. Everyone was in period costumes and the people demonstrating Camp / Fort life were informative and friendly. A gentleman showed us and discussed the use of various surgical tools used by the battlefield surgeons of the time.

This is a good place to visit to learn about the war of 1812 and the importance of the fort. During business hours the buildings are open to the public with a view to the time period, knowledge staff and on certain days reenactments. This location is also used for other activities throughout the year - Art By The River, Canada Day and other events. This is a great spot to view the Canada Day fireworks by the town. It is also close to the park/splash pad and the Navey Yard Park.

We attended the night time candle light tour with a soldier in period costume. The fee was $19 per person. We had a great time , excellent history presentation by a very witty & entertaining presenter. Tour was mainly outdoors but some inside stops. Tour took about 75 minutes. We definitely recommend. There were a few others in period costume the added to the authenticity.

Stopped by on our way back to the US and really enjoyed it. I'm surprised there is only one other review (as of this writing), because it seems like a great place to visit. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Many of the re-enactors are high school students and do a great job. It was fun (and a bit amusing) to watch them struggle with putting up tents and doing their drills in the yard. We surprised the guys who were doing the cooking in the back, and one quickly hid the more "modern" condiments for the chicken they were going to cook (lunch, anyone?). There is a lot of information shared in the museum and the displays are well-done. I highly recommend a visit.

This historic site was closed for the season until May however we self guided ourselves back into time to view and read the history of the battlefront from the outside. Plentiful informational signs to assist guiding us in front of each historic building. Would love to return in the summer to have a guided tour of the museum and army barracks.

A charming piece of local history. Nicest group of staff I have ever dealt with. They each had information to share about the names fought and the development of the area. There was not a lot to do there, but it was well worth going thru and speaking to the parks staff. Any history buffs would love it.

Nice small fort. The musket and Cannon demonstrations were neat and very loud. I loved that everyone was dressed up. Oh and they have parks canada red chairs.

Had a candle night tour, the guide was amazing and so were the actors. My partner and I learned many new facts about the fort and life in the area over the many decades. We will be going back 100%

My friend and I went on the "Candlelight Tour" and we had an enjoyable and entertaining visit. It's had to make history fun but Sven our tour guide was charming and informative. We learned and we laughed! Our red coated guide told us tales by candlelight along a sunset riverbank and creepy candlelit asylum. Job well done!!

An interesting place to visit, where history is brought to life by characters dressed in the clothing of the times. We particularly enjoyed looking at the blacksmiths tools and seeing how metal buttons were made. There are also excellent guides who explained how the soldiers lived in very cramped conditions.

My 13 year old daughter and I visited for our very first time during a Heritage Day event. It was educational, entertaining, engaging, and really fun. It was perfect as she had just learned about the War of 1812. We had a blast. I'm definitely going back.

Beautiful historic site on the shores of the Detroit River in historic Amherstburg, Ontario. Fascinating War of 1812 history, among other things. Attractive historic buildings and landscaping. Nice views of the river. Beautiful town surrounding the fort--a very pedestrian friendly area.

Best historical place in Essex county. I love taking my family here al the time, my son likes looking at the cannons and watching the demonstrations they have as well.

I visited just recently and was blown away by the knowledge the staff displayed. They answered all my questions thoroughly and kindly, and as a history buff, I had quite a few. One employee in particular, who told me his name was Nick, was particularly kind and went out of his way to hold the door for me even though he appeared to be pushing a wheelbarrow full of wood. I will definitely be visiting again and I fully intend to reccomend this place to my friends and family.

A great heritage site on the edge of the base of the Detroit River in Amherstburg Ontario. The site is currently undergoing some much needed restoration but, overall the facility makes for an interesting and scenic commemoration of the war of 1812.

This is a must see in Amherstburg. The guides were knowledgeable, polite, and dressed in character. The musket demonstration was top notch. Great care has been taken to recreate the actual feel of the fort, and the grounds are superbly maintained. We are told they cook an amazing lunch on the weekends in the cooking area, and it is delicious!!

Our visit was enhanced by friendly and informative staff. Musket and cooking demonstration was very much appreciated. Small museum with First Nations input to displays a change from the predominantly eurocentric portrayal of Canadian history.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ We visited in the fall off-season. A cold wind was blowing, but it was still worth the discomfort. It's a linear national park that stretches along the riverfront. Well laid out with good displays.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ The park is so lovely. The spongy floor of the park is safe and fun. The splash pad is a great way to keep an eye on your kiddos but not have to be within a foot of them. So enjoyable!

πŸ‘πŸ‘ This museum is amazing and sobering at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the blacks that escaped to Canada from slavery in the US and how they acclimated to life there. It's very small and funded mostly by donations but still a must visit if in the Ontario area.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Great place to go and enjoy a wine flight and some charcuterie. Outside seating is nice and our friends’ 18month old daughter loved swinging in the swings as well as trying out all the chairs in front of the vines. We were there on a Tuesday and we’re pretty much the only people there… it was early...
