Very interesting place! They have a large outdoor sitting area available, but since the weather was cold everyone was inside. Large variety of people enjoying themselves in many ways. People gathering with friends drinking coffee or having a drink, solo patrons reading a book or studying, people grabbing a bite to eat. Good vibe throughout. The owners really invested in this hundred plus year old church, as it look beautiful. Found the staff to be not very friendly. Stood there for a while waiting for someone to take my order. Prices were average. Definitely would like to return in the warmer months to see what they have going outside.

A historic church turned into a coffee shop/cocktail lounge. Great atmosphere for locals to chill and vibe indoors or outdoors. Kid friendly, with a space for children to play with toys. Love the art in the space, decor, menu options, summer events and farmers market. Like that they feature local djs. Great place to catch up on work, read a book, or to grab a solo cocktail. Solo dating safe atmosphere. The carrot cake was my favorite.

Awesome coffee and amazing food. We went there around noon on a Saturday and it was busy but we still got seats. We ordered toddy, spicy mocha latte, salmon bagel and Brie with bread. The food was amazing! This place used to be a church and the exterior is still intact. The interior has been well-preserved as well and you can still see the organ and the stained glass windows. Overall, an excellent find!

Blessed. The Congregation is a place to give thanks for 🙏. A former house of worship is now a cafe by day and a bar at night. The food is heavenly and healthy. Many tasty options and many plant based items. The interior is quiet and peaceful and the outside space is both a deck and a friendly backyard. I think my favorite thing was the restroom lock code 12345 which for some hilarious reason is a secret.

It's been 55 years since the revolution started right up the street. It's surreal to look up the street where it all began, while having a mighty good time at The Congregation. This is a pleasant space indoors and outdoors. Awesome vibe. Good time! Great meeting spot. Gazebo and deck. Picnic tables with umbrellas. Bring you lawn chair if you want.

One of the coolest coffee shops I have ever been to! Delicious coffee with a very unique atmosphere. Plenty of seating and would be a perfect place to post up and get some work done. They had run out of bagels when we were there which was a bummer. They also didn’t have avocado toast as was previously posted on here.

(Plant-based reviewer) This place was amazing! Beautiful, unique building - it just had a really great feel to it, I'm guessing because it used to be a church 😊 I had the chickpea sandwich which was delicious. I heart dill and they use an excellent multi-grain bread and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. They also offer a veggie sandwich and avocado toast which I look forward to trying in the future. They have a full coffee bar with plenty of milk alternatives, as well as a fully stocked bar. Love the large, beautiful outdoor seating area! Highly recommend this spot.

This beautifully repurposed church is a relaxed coffee house, serving tasty food and beverages. I went to see a friend's art exhibit, tastefully hung around the former sanctuary amidst the tables. There's also a large outdoor seating area.

Amazing old building repurposed for a welcoming vibe. Shared and individual seating using old pews, stained glass, and even the pipe organ. Outside and indoor seating. High ceilings, music volume, and furnishings along with the arrangement of the seating allow for conversations without yelling. Trusty classics and unique seasonal food, alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks. Patrons are welcome and fun conversation or diligent work can be accomplished.

I had an amazing time at the Congregation. I wish I found out about this sooner. I would’ve been studying there in the mornings. They seem to have quite a few events as well throughout the month. I also did the rotating flavors that I have. I ordered breakfast use the Wi-Fi had a chai tea latte and was able to meet couple new people bonus. They are rotating art around as well that was available for purchase, which I thought was pretty cool. It was an amazing day to be outside. However, I couldn’t ignore the energy that was inside as well. I will be back and hopefully use this place regularly to study.

I like that The Congregation is all about local community. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You go up to the counter to order and the gentleman helped give me ideas on what I might like. There is plenty of seating on cushioned seats inside and park benches outside for large gatherings. The area outside is very green and well taken care of with fruit growing near by. There is not much of a sign out front and it can be easy to miss if you don't know about it. The entrance is around the left side up the porch steps. It can be a good place to bring kids with the outdoor space for them run around in. Also they seem kid friendly with a kids step in the bathroom by the sink.

Great coffee shop. Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. The coffee is delicious & they had good pastries. We had the cheese/ham croissant + raspberry muffin, both were great. Looking forward to going back.

Located in a beautiful old church The Congregation is wonderful coffee shop and gathering place. Excellent coffee drinks and even better cocktails. The food offering is just right and each dish is presented with care. Fabulous outdoor patio space as well.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Cool vibe, artisanal foods and just the most amazing coffee I’ve ever had. The orange spiced espresso tonic is maybe the best coffee drink I’ve ever had. And Conor loved the sarsaparilla shakerato, like a root beer coffee, he says. Every choice here is calculated, planned and well thought out. The ambiance is perfect, some unexpected balance between cozy coffee shop and happy hour spot. I love coming here, so happy this place exists in Detroit.

The only thing that would make the Congregation better is for it to be open more. It is a real gem and a great Sunday destination. Easy location off of the Lodge, the food is great, and the setup of the Cafe makes it a really great place to meet friends and family. The menu has something for everyone. It's a great choice at night for a light snack since they're open until 9p most nights.

The coffee over here is pretty good but the vibe is as chill as your favorite playlist. Grab a window seat, soak in the vibes, and pretend you're having a deep moment while sipping that artisanal cup of magic. So, if you're in Detroit and craving your coffee with a side of history, hit up this former-church-turned-coffee-sanctuary. It's not just coffee, it's a whole vibe.

It's a beautiful place inside a gorgeous old church. It has a really nice crowd. I didn't get coffee because I had some earlier that day. I had a Chai latte which was delicious.

The vibes: immaculate. The coffee: divine! This is a great place to chill and get some breakfast before devoting time downtown. You’ll worship their house coffee and pray that they still have some donuts left! Sit and reflect in the pews while indulging in the gorgeous views. Great spot!

•Cafe with an eccentric, cozy vibe, nice for both solo studying or meeting with friends. •Space is one big dining room, with assorted couches, tables and chairs. •There’s a collection of board games to play, if you want to have a coffee/drink and play with friends. •Free street parking.

The option to order from the table is a good option so you can sit as you walk in. The coffee is good and the food is alright, I had the avocado toast. There is street Parking available when visited. I can only imagine how good it is in summer with a lot of outdoor seating area. The vibe is nice and an interesting place. I think it was a church

Such a unique, fun place with an awesome story behind it. I really enjoyed it, the prices on drinks were pretty on-par with other shops which I think it's fair pricing. Got an iced lavender latte and the flavor was incredible! Lots of other shops put too little or too much lavender, but this had a great floral taste to it, delicious. Worth the trip!

I felt like I found something very special discovering this place. The coffee was fantastic. The ham and cheese quiche was very yummy. The only disappointment was that the chicken caesars wrap was very flavorless. I could barely taste the salad dressing, although I could visibly see it and feel it in my mouth. Overall, this spot is amazing!

This little gem is honestly heavenly. It's housed in an old church that's been repurposed as a quaint and, frankly, wonderful cafe. Today on the menu was a Lavender Latte and iced tea with Lavender Simple Syrup. Whoever thought of this combination is an angel. Also tried their avocado toast on multigrain bread. Super! Mine had a hint of lemon which you normally miss with others, and sprinkled with Everything Bagel seasoning. Lastly -- I know. I had alot to try -- the Mediterranean salad. It's not necessarily the salad that was so great, but it's the dressing. Lemon Sumac dressing is a classic find. Sumac is not readily available but when you catch it, get it. You will not be disappointed. The interior is very vintage and plenty of room. Love the stained glass windows and original pipe organ pipes. Word is the building is over 100 years old and the organ is origins. So, if you're anxious to lift your spirits, definitely the Congregation is for you.

Great neighborhood find! The coffee and Danish were really good. Right in the heart of the Historic District. The neighbors are just as friendly and helpful as the staff. I absolutely love being back in the 'D' . Thank you for an awesome experience in my hometown.

My first time here was as a vendor for their market in the basement. It easily became my new favorite space for several reasons. 1. Staff. Every employee was kind, personable and always moving. You can tell they truly enjoy working there. 2. Coffee/food. I ordered a hazelnut latte and appreciated the balance - it wasn’t overly sweet like most places. I had a chocolate croissant and immediately wished I ordered a salad after seeing another vendor with one. 3. Community. They support local small businesses - along with the market, they had a live band and hosted yoga class in the morning. I met a lot of guests who said they’ve been going there since open in 2020 and what kept them coming back was community. 4. Vibe. The aesthetic and materials used are welcoming and industrial. The high ceilings and natural light were a dream. Stained glass and blueprint on the walls were a perfect touch. 11/10 recommend going here solo or with friends and to keep up with the incredible events they offer. Can’t wait to go back!
