I began ordering their wonderful dark chocolate Elan several years back for a Christmas gift for my mother. My Uncle had originally sent it to Mom from his home in Michigan. And she fell in love with it. Well, imagine my surprise when I picked up the tradition and called Grosse Point and was told that they would BILL ME. They didn't ask for a credit card. I thought this was too good to be believed but it's true. Just like the good ole days, you call and order and THEN they bill you. Even if you live all the way in California. On top of the old fashioned billing, the bark literally melts in your mouth. It is THE best toffee I have ever tasted. Mom hides the treasure in her pantry and doesn't share. So nobody else gets a taste. Well, maybe she gives me a small bite.

Fresh ingredients, just the right amount of crunch and butter. Recently my husband decided order some for me and they do everything old school, send you the product with an invoice where you have the mail the payment back. But that’s okay! In a world where superlatives like 'amazing' have been so de-valued by their over-use, it's refreshing to come across any creature comfort that truly earns the label, and keeps that label over time with such consistency. I've enjoyed Elan toffees since Maralyn opened her store, and have given her edibles to dozens of people, always with the same rave reviews. It's not at all unusual to watch a recipient taste the candies for the first time (invariably a female), watch her eyes close involuntarily as if being transported to some far away happy-place, and upon re-gaining consciousness, slowly and surreptitiously, slip the box underneath something that effectively hides it from hubby and kids....yeah, it's that good.
