One of best places to be visited in MAMALLAPURAM. Take your time visiting the place and enjoy the detailed stone carving work done centuries ago.Not far from bus stand one can walk also.

Visited on 29th Jul 2019 #. One out of the Pancha Rathas (Pl read our review, Pancha Rathas) #. This Ratha is dedicated to DRAUPADI (Panchali), the common wife of the 5 Pandava brothers. #. The photos can give more ideas & details in Pancha Rathas Wiki. #. There are, among few other stone blocks, 8 notable Rathas (Chariots) and Statues. The “Pandava Brothers” were five {Yudhishtir, Bhim, Arjun and Nakul & Shadev} and a common wife (Draupati). 1. When you enter (almost a rectangular) compound, at the entrance, you will see the “TIGER Statue”, the ‘Vahana’ (vehicle) of Durga!. Here, Draupati is also described as Godess Durga. 2. Left of Tiger Statue, is the “DRAUPATI Ratha”. The attached Site plan will give an idea of the palcements. Pl refer Wiki for details of Pancha Rathas, Mahabalipuram. We have to go from the main temple to this location almost 1.3 km, otherwise these sculptures and maintenance are so good. There's no trash., They clean the place frequently. And then there's one small size park 😜... Where you can take rest,

This structure was under sand, first identified by British government, who started excavation. It was later modified by Archeological survey of india. The whole area was build by Pallava dynasty about 700 AD. This patiticular area has 5 temples . Only first one of temples ( Durga temple) has idol. All rest 4 of indra, brahma, shiva bishnu has no idol. These idols were demolished. Story related to pandava of mahabharat was fake. Standing at this site, you will have a unique feeling of seeing structures build 1400 years ago. These structures was made by working on a small mountain.

Draupadi Ratha, Mahabalipuram Named after the common wife of the Pancha Pandavas, this ratha which lies at the northern end of the five rathas is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Constructed in the form of a small hut of Bengal, it is the smallest of the five rathas, and measures 3.4 m by 3.4 m with a height of 5.5 m. The curvilinear thatched roof is devoid of any finial but is embellished with motifs in the joints. The high rise platform leading to the entrance door of the west facing ratha is decorated with sculptures of lion and elephant heads chiselled alternately. Durga images adorn the ratha, particularly on the sanctum that portrays Goddess Durga standing on a lotus and also on the exterior surface of the wall facing east.
