The
current
Dr.
Muhammad
Shahidullah
Hall
was
the
first
dormitory
built
for
Dhaka
College.
Its
construction
was
completed
in
March
1908.
The
design
of
this
hall
is
compatible
with
the
design
of
Curzon
Hall.
When
the
University
of
Dhaka
was
established,
it
was
added
as
a
residential
hall
of
the
University
of
Dhaka.
[1]
The
hall
was
established
as
Lighton
Hall
in
1921
and
later
renamed
as
Dhaka
Hall
and
in
1969
the
famous
linguist
Dr.
Muhammad
Shahidullah
was
renamed
after
his
death.
Later
on
June
17,
2017
this
hall
was
named
Dr.
Muhammad
was
martyred.[2][3]

On
the
night
of
March
25,
1971,
the
first
resistance
against
the
Pakistani
invading
forces
was
made
next
to
this
hall.
As
a
result,
the
enraged
Pak
soldiers
entered
the
hall
to
carry
out
the
first
massacre.

Shahidullah
Hall
area
was
earlier
known
as
Bagh-e-Musa
Khan.
It
is
named
after
Musa
Khan,
son
of
Isa
Khan,
the
only
Bhuiyan
of
Baro
Bhuiyan.
Musa
Khan
was
held
as
a
prisoner
of
war
after
losing
a
battle
near
Subedar
Islam
Khan.
But
Subedar
Islam
Khan
was
very
kind
to
him.
According
to
Hakim
Habibur
Rahman
it
was
a
garden
which
was
also
famous
as
a
Muslim
garden.
Relics
of
that
period
include
the
Musa
Khan
Mosque,
and
tombs.
