north
side
of
Narinda
Pool,
this
mosque
was
built
by
his
daughter
Musammat
Bakht
Bint
Bibi
during
the
reign
of
Sultan
Nasiruddin
Mahmud
Shah
in
861
Hijri,
i.e.
1457
AD.

ancient
pool
of
Narinda
beside
which
the
mosque
is
located
is
called
Hayat
Bepari
Pool.
The
mosque
is
square,
and
has
two
domes
and
four
minarets.
This
mosque
is
believed
to
be
the
oldest
Muslim
structure
in
Dhaka.
Archaeologist
and
historian
AKM
Zakaria
in
his
book
'Antiquities
of
Bangladesh'
wrote
about
this
mosque,
"The
original
mosque
of
Binat
Bibi
was
single-domed.
Later,
when
it
was
renovated
and
enlarged,
another
dome
was
made.
The
original
mosque
was
square.
The
internal
volume
was
3.
63
square
meters.
Each
wall
is
3.63
meters
wide.
From
the
inscriptions
carved
on
this
mosque,
it
is
known
that
Mosammat
Bakht
bint
(full
name
Mosammat
Bakht
bint
Dokhtar-e-Marhamat),
the
daughter
of
a
certain
Marhammat,
built
this
mosque.
It
was
during
the
Sultanate
period
in
Bengal.
The
Sultanate
was
ruled
by
Sultan
Nasir-ud-Din
Mahmud
Shah."
Currently,
a
new
six-storey
building
has
been
constructed
in
front
of
the
old
mosque.
The
old
mosque
is
listed
in
the
Department
of
Archaeology.
