Osmani
Uddayan
is
one
of
the
traditional
gardens
of
Dhaka.
Osmani
Udyan
is
situated
on
the
opposite
side
of
Dhaka
South
City
Corporation
(Nagar
Bhavan)
and
behind
the
Secretariat
in
Gulistan,
Dhaka
covering
an
area
of
about
23.37
acres.
In
1971,
Osmani
Udyan
was
named
after
the
commander
of
the
great
liberation
war,
Lt.
J.
MAG
Osmani,
and
Osmani
Auditorium
was
built
next
to
the
garden
in
his
memory.
Dhaka
South
City
Corporation
(Nagar
Bhavan)
oversees
the
park
and
ensures
all
renovations
and
overall
safety.
There
are
a
total
of
3
main
gates
for
entering
and
exiting
the
garden.
The
main
gate
is
just
opposite
the
City
Corporation,
the
second
gate
is
next
to
Golap
Shah
Mosque
and
the
third
gate
is
next
to
Osmani
Auditorium.
At
the
entrance
of
the
park
there
is
a
guide
map
for
visitors.
It
provides
a
clear
view
of
the
Ottoman
gardens,
lakes,
structures
and
other
walkways.
Moreover,
Osmani
Udyan
has
been
divided
into
a
total
of
11
sectors
to
preserve
the
memory
of
the
great
war
of
independence.
And
the
location
of
the
sectors
can
be
seen
nicely
on
this
map.
After
crossing
the
main
gate,
you
can
see
the
Independence
Monument,
which
commemorates
the
war
of
independence.
The
cannon
of
Emperor
Aurangzeb's
commander-in-chief,
Mir
Jumla,
currently
adorns
the
Osmani
Gardens.
The
cannon
was
used
by
Mir
Jumla
in
the
Assam
War.
A
collection
of
native
and
foreign
varieties
of
flowers
and
foliage
plants
of
various
varieties.
Different
types
and
rare
species
of
trees
are
seen
here.
Kardai,
Amalki,
Tetul,
Bot,
Arjuna,
Mahogany
are
among
them.
There
are
also
elder
trees,
mango
trees,
jackfruit
trees,
banana
trees
and
neem
trees.
One
of
the
major
attractions
in
Osmani
Gardens
is
the
two
lakes
spread
over
an
area
of
about
5.34
acres.
There
are
2
man-made
sand
islands
next
to
the
lake.
Osmani
Udyan
is
open
daily
for
visitors.
In
summer
it
is
from
5.00
am
to
9.00
pm
and
in
winter
from
6.00
am
to
8.00
pm.
No
weekly
closures.
How
to
go
–
You
have
to
come
to
Gulistan
from
anywhere
in
the
capital
Dhaka.
After
that
you
can
walk
to
Osmani
Udyan
from
there.
