Dhaka's
first
water
tank.
The
first
water
tank
that
supplied
water
to
Dhaka
city
is
located
on
the
north
side
of
Bahadur
Shah
Park.
The
Nawab
family
of
Dhaka
took
special
initiatives
to
provide
clean
water
to
the
people
of
Dhaka.
Nawab
Abdul
Ghani
received
the
KCMI
(King
Commander
of
the
Order
of
the
Star
of
India)
title
in
1871.
He
is
famous
in
the
area
as
Gani
Mia.
He
donated
50
thousand
taka
for
the
welfare
of
the
people
of
Dhaka
in
the
joy
of
getting
the
title.
The
purpose
is
to
provide
clean
water
for
the
people
of
Dhaka.
All
in
all,
the
amount
of
the
Nawab's
family's
expenses
in
addition
to
the
government's
expenses
stood
at
9
lakh
5
thousand
350
taka.
This
is
the
first
case
of
providing
clean
water
to
the
people
of
this
region.
However,
before
that,
Sakka
or
Vistiwalas
in
Dhaka
city
used
to
supply
water
with
the
help
of
muskets
until
the
sixties
of
the
last
century.
The
place
where
Saqqara
lived
is
now
known
as
Sikkatuli.
Later
Dhaka
WASA
(Water
Supply
and
Sewerage
Authority)
was
established
in
1963.
In
1989,
Dhaka's
drainage
system
was
handed
over
to
Dhaka
WASA.
This
water
tank
is
part
of
our
historical
heritage.
The
Directorate
of
Archeology
should
take
them
under
its
purview.
So
that
common
people
can
know
its
history.
