A massive fire broke out at the Bangabazar Shopping Complex on 4th April 2023. Around six thousand stores were burnt down along with other structures damaged due to the circumstances. Unfortunately, many traders were unable to save their products, leading to significant losses. The market is known for its garment products and different types of clothes, which are fueling the fire's spread.

It's very difficult to get perfectly fit and well finished product from here as most of the shops sell rejected export garments. Another issue is the environment which is extremely clumsy!

Side by side major courtyard areas have various function occasionally. IN the proposal there are monthly/weekly market, food cart zone, general shops, multiple public gathering spaces etc. These are factors for making the place vibrant. On the other side recreational zone (multipurpose hall, cinema hall and historical museum) is for keeping the place active for all the time in case of holiday. The museum is mainly locator of historical places for traveler & gathering of the history of places. And the final zoning portion having a commercial tower to balancing the costing of the market.

It was the first market where you can find leftovers of export items. However in recent days it turn out as a local garment wholesale market.And quite popular not only for local but also for foreigners. As an inhabitant of old Dhaka we still remember the first fire broke at Bongo bazaar in 1996 /1995. Although it was about a mile from our house we had seen the devastating fire. 100s of shop destroyed at the time. As my office is in Karwan bazaar I have to pass through bongo bazar every working days. Even the day before I went beside the market and thinking to bought some items. However another devastating fire broke out for the second time with the same results. I personally believe most of the shoppers used to take products in credit from Narayangonj small factories. So most of the heat will be born by the small readymade garments owners.

There you can get export products also. Specially those who wants/plans to go abroad, you can also buy winter clothes there in a cheap rate. You can find it on the second floor of the market. If you can't find, then ask the local shopkeepers, they will show you.
