Nako is a small place falling enroute your drive to Tabo. The village of Nabo is known for its natural, pristine lake which is a short trek from the monastery. Nako Monastery is witness of iconography of well developed & established Vajranya Buddhists in India. The complex of Monastery comprises of 4 ancient temples. These temples are in an enclosure that has been built with mud walls. Nako Monastery was established around the 11th Century by the Great Translator Lochen Rinchen Zangpo. This is a beautiful monastery located in the small village of Nako. There are around 4 different structures where monks usually go and pray. Two of them are open to the public. There is a single storeyed chapel which does not house any idols. The walls of this chapel are painted with Buddhist gods and goddesses. The second chapel is the biggest of all and have important clay idols. Some are Ratnasambhava, Vairochna, Amitabh and Akshobhya. In the third chapel there is the female Buddhist goddess Tara. The Buddhism practiced in Nako monastery is Vajrayana Buddhism which is an agressive form of Buddhism that combines Buddhism with tantric energy. In Vajrayana Buddhism spritual gods and goddesses are given more or equal status than the Buddha. This Monastery is very old and one requires the services of a monk to explained the meanings of the idols and tell us the names of the gods and goddesses But the illusive monk is temporary and the monastery does not have a full time monk or staff that can look after it. It is recommended that those who come to Spiti should definitely go to Nako monastery and marvel at this old and beautiful monastery and also to visit the nearby peaceful Nako lake.

According to popular belief, this monastery was founded in the 11th century by an renowned ancient translator Lochen Rinchen Zangpo. It is situated at Nako village, around 6 hours away from Manali. The monastery is also known as the Lotsava Jhakang, which means complex of the translator. Situated by the Nako Lake, this serene monastery has been constructed on the pattern of the famous Tabo Monastery, in Spiti Valley, and is divided into four halls or chapels. The gate of the monastery is engraved with intricate patterns.

I don't know much about monasteries. But the landscape around this site is very unique. The lake is just a 5 min walk.

Nako village is famous for its sacred Nako lake and Nako Gompa. Nako Gompa is a small monastery but well-maintained and very clean. If you go anywhere in Spiti valley you end up finding some beautiful landscapes. This Gompa is very old and one of the centres of attraction.

While traveling to kaza, you cross this small but beautiful town of Nako. Nako is famous for its lake and the Gompa. The Nako Gompa is located on the southern part of the village and is the most peaceful place in Nako. The priest is a very humble guy and if the gompa is closed, you will find him around talking with the locals

👍👍 Wonderful experience in the winter here. The Nala is almost frozen. Salute to the B.R.O. for maintaining such roads with higher altitudes.
