One of the main attractions in Dharmasala. Place with good vibes. Peaceful, can sit quite for hours away from your mind chattering as there is very less topics to engage in. The monastery is accessible from the Mall Road, about 800m from the Mall. It has awesome views and entry is free of cost. Though, your bag will be checked thoroughly for any dangerous or sharp materials. There is also a college where young monks learn and practice the various ritualistic traditions of Buddhism.

Right next to the Kalchakra temple is this monastery as well. Similar to the temple the idols and statues were really beautiful. They even had the Prayer wheels outside. A nice peaceful experience again. You don't need a ticket for this.

I had visited during morning time. Namgyal Monastery also called Dalailama Temple. Apart from monastery there are Institute, admistration office and residence of Dalai lama, library. This place is very tranquility and peaceful.  There is no entry fees. This temple is just one minute walking distance from Dharamsala skyway/ropeway.

The Namgyal Monastery is one of the largest Tibetan temples renowned as the home of the Dalai Lama is situated at McLeod ganj Lin Dharmshala. It is surrounded by lush green landscape and snow-capped mountains. The place is quiet and serene with positive vibes. It is approachable from Dharmshala through Skyway (Rope way) or by road on taxi. It is recommended that one should leave taxi at the start of market and come on foot to the monastery through market especially having look at the the shops selling Tibetan souvenirs and gift items. At the entry point of temple there is a Tibetan National Martyrs Memorial dedicated to the people of Tibet who laid down there lives for their mother-land. A must visit place for all visitors.

Quiet and serene place of worship. The facilities are up to the mark. There is a lift for people who can not climb. There is a great view from the temple. It's a long walk from the market. Fortunately the roapway is just a walking distance. The car park is a close by too. The entry is free of cost. Must place to visit to understand a new religion.

The serenity and ambience that this place creates in the minds of its visitors are enough to attract even those who are not inclined towards this religion. The Namgyal Monastery is often referred to as "Dalai Lama's Temple" as it is the personal monastery of the 14th Dalai Lama.Following the Tibetan uprising of 1959, Namgyal Monastery relocated to Dharamshala, India, where it continues, active, to this day. According to Namgyal's website, Namgyal (Dharamshala) has "nearly 200" monks (up from 55 in 1959), representing all four main Tibetan monastic lineages.

Dharamshala Namgyal Monastery, Dharamshala Namgyal Monastery is also the home of the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet. This beautiful monastery was founded in the 16th century by the second Dalai Lama and it was established so that Namgyal monks could assist the Dalai Lama in public religious affairs. The monks living here perform rituals for the welfare of Tibet and work as a center of learning and meditation on the profound Buddhist treatises. In 1959, the Red Chinese invaded Tibet, after which, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama along with thousands of Tibetans, including hundreds of Namgyal monks, fled into the neighboring countries of Nepal, Bhutan, and India and re-established the Namgyal monastery in India. The Namgyal Monastery was first established by the 3rd Dalai Lama in 1575 in Tibet and was relocated to Dharamshala following the Tibetan uprising in 1959. The monastery currently houses around 200 Tibetan monks, who help preserve the monastery's ancient rituals, artistic skills and traditions. The study of Buddhism includes modern studies of both Tibetan and English language, study of Sutra and Tantra texts, Buddhist Philosophy, making butter sculptures, torma offerings, sand mandalas, playing various ritual musical instruments, ritual chanting, and dances. The beauty of this monastery is so evident that even those who are not particularly inclined towards this religion will be fascinated by the serene ambience all around and by the imposing figures of the Buddha.

It is a place of profound tranquility and spiritual resonance. As you step onto the temple premises, a sense of calm envelops you. The majestic Himalayan backdrop create an ideal setting for introspection and meditation. The monastery, also known as Dalai Lama Temple, holds immense significance. Apart from its religious role, it serves as an institute, an administration office, and even the residence His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The library within the walls houses ancient text and wisdom. The architecture follows the Tibetan style, and the interior features polished wood and brass elements. However, the true marvel lies in the giant prayer drum adorned with sacred mantras. Spinning it is believed to bring blessings to all sentient beings. Whether you’re a seeker of inner peace or a curious traveler, the Namgyal Monastery leaves an indelible mark on your heart.

I went to this monastery on the 33rd Anniversary of HH Dalai Lama receiving the Noble Peace Prize and it was full of people, everyone celebrating. This place is very near the Main square of Mcleodganj and the entry is free. The place will provide you peace and a great place to spend some time and meditate. There's no restriction on photography or anything, so you can have your instagram moments. Definitely recommended.

The Dalai Lama's temple, also where he does his public teachings. The monastery was relocated here from Lhasa in 1959. The monastery can get crowded, yet you feel peaceful. The main Buddha statue is inspiring, with two more spectacular ones on the left side. Walk all around the temple, and take in fellow praying humans, good views of the Buddha, and the spirit of the religion. Know that if you are in the temple, you are not too far from the Dalai Lama as his ofgice/home is mere meters away.
