The place is a backwater with Valiyaparamba beach at the other end. You need to take a boat or jetty to cross to the other side to reach the island. Walk across the island to the beach. The locals on the island are cordial. There are not much people on the seashore. Mornings are pretty much deserted and peaceful. There are resorts on the island which provide various activities like kayaking. KSRTC boat facilities are available. You need to wave at the boat inorder for them to sight you. Also it is extremely cheap. It reaches Kavvayi at 9:15 am. And is available at intervals throughout the day. The conductor and driver are approchable people. Else jetty's are available most of the time.

A hidden gem of North Kerala. I had the best time kayaking around the backwaters with Rahul. He showed me to the mangroves, the beach and a small little island where we did some bird watching. If you are in the area you must make a stop even for a short paddle - views are breathtaking and you will be in good hands! Thank you so much!

One of the known must place in north Kerala. Best services, kayaking through the mangroves, house boat etc are some of the attractions. The staff were really helpful and warm. Had an amazing time with my son.

Got the reference of Rahul through a common friend, and called him to book for Kayaking. He couldn't answer the call, but he made sure that he called me back and gave all the directions and the time slot to reach the kayaking point. A very friendly guy Rahul is, and he will make sure that your experience is good once you reach there. We were three folks, including my 12-year-old son. He accompanied my son in a separate kayak, and made sure that he enjoyed the trip as well. Rahul comes across as a real passionate person about kayaking, and it is evident when you talk to him. Add to that, it is a very beautiful location and a safe one at that for all age groups. Looking forward to the stay options and more kayaking experiences next time. Keep up the friendly and warm experience, Rahul :)

During our holidays at Kannur we went for boating at this place. It's awesomely beautiful & we had a fabulous boating experience through the mangroves. It's more beautiful at sunset time. There's sea beach on the other side of the mangroves, you need to leave the boat & walk to the beach. Enjoy sun set at the serene beach & then come back to the main land by boating again.

I went kayaking with my mom and her friend for the first time. I was a little scared initially, but Rahul explained everything beforehand. It turned out to be a great experience. They provided clean and damage-free kayaks and jackets, gave us useful tips, and the mangroves were beautiful. We even stopped at an island, which was truly stunning. Overall, it was an amazing day, and we took a lot of photos to capture the memories.

Had visited Kavayi (3kms from Payyanur town) in Oct last month, initially we were little skeptical to take boat ride or to do Kayaking. Finally decided on Kayaking, and we really enjoyed the experience. We were a group of 6 adults and 3 children (8 years+)โ€ฆ.think it may not be ideal for very small kids. Rahul and team was there and they very helpful. Reaching there around 4/4:30PM would be ideal, we did not carry mobile phones or wallets, left in the vehicles, as there is good chance of getting wet. But the 1:30-2:00 hours time spend was memorable, fun and little adventurous. You may carry an additional set of dress if possible. Sitting on the kayaking boats and rowing are not easy, but then there is not any scope of drownings etc, the water levels are not too deep, so its relatively safe. Thanks once again to Rahul for all the help. Only hitch, there is no good toilet or restaurant facilities around the place as of now.

We took a ยฝ day tour with Rahul of Kavvayi Stories and absolutely loved it. We met him at an important temple in Payyanur. This was a priority for us and we found it historical, energetic, fascinating and powerful. Then we stopped at a small factory where for 6 generations, theyโ€™ve been making sacred metal idols and special bhartan for temples. It was so interesting to see the amazing work they do all by hand. Itโ€™s now government sponsored so that these traditions donโ€™t die out but we too didnโ€™t know anything about this and it was an enriching, inspiring experience. We had selected only 2 hours kayaking as it was our first time and it was perfect. We went to the mangrove forest and walked around, in delight and amazement, and then to Coconut Island where we were able to swim and enjoy the pristine nature and then over to a thin strip of land, dividing the backwaters from the sea. After playing in the waves, we walked back and got into our kayaks, now with full confidence, and back to the dock. An absolutely exquisite time was had and as a first time, 2 hours was enough. But next time, more kayaking and at least one overnight on the island. And canโ€™t wait! Definitely motivating for gym workouts! Then Rahul suggested a beautiful, outdoor restaurant with the freshest, more delicious fish Iโ€™ve had. Rahulโ€™s trips are completely customizable and most definitely, highly recommended!!!

Kayaking at Kavvayi Stories was the highlight of our trip. The lagoon is beautiful and serene and the folks at Kavvayi Stories are super helpful, guiding you if you are a beginner and giving you enough space and freedom to make the experience truly your own. If you are anywhere in the area, this is a MUST HAVE experience.

Hidden paradise in Kerala. This place is not even popular among the peoples from northern Kerala. One need to take 5 minutes boat journey to reach the island. The ambience, hospitality and food was really good. We got a chance to go for fishing and caching crab with a guy named sandeep. They also arranged a live music concert. The best part of the package is the kayaking. We went to a private beach and mangroves using kayak and it was one of the best experiance I had from kerala, Thanks Rahul, jithin, sandeep and the full team for arranging all and for the great hospitality.

Kavvayi coconut island camping by kavvai stories was one of the most amazing experience in kannur .I went with my colleagues and friends 8 of us and had a wonderful time. Rahul our instructor and owner was a very pleasing and polite person who was filled with information about the area and about the island mangroves. He managed to accomodat us in his busy schedule in the morning as I didnt have a booking earlier. Kayaking by itself was very simple and the team was very quick to learn and folllowed the instruction of Rahul deligently. Will definetely be going again but this time for the evening and night stay..

We did Kayaking at Kavvayi backwaters with KavvayiStories team. This was a wonderful experience and the team helped us to understand the basics of kayaking effortless. All safety measure were followed and I did not worry about my kid doing Kayaking for first time. This backwater is safe for non swimmers as the water depth is shallow. The best experience was to kayak in between the mangroves. This was also very cost-effective and value for money activity.

Awesome Experience with team "Kavvayi Stories". Got a wonderful day to remember forever in my life. Kavvayi Coconut Island is situated near to payyanur town which is about 3kms only. Kayaking and tent stay inside the island is the main attraction of the place. Neat toilet facility and refreshment room is available. Tasty and healthy food is provided at the tenting place. The morning view from the tent โ›บ is mind blowing. Another great experience you can have is kayaking thorough the mangroves Forest which is also situated in the lake and very near to the Island. Best and great experience ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

Thank you Rahul for a memorable experience at Kasargod. His passion for North Kerala and making it a preferred tourist destination for travellers is obvious. He alongwith a group of liked minded people are working earnestly towards this. Visit to the Kunhimangalam Bell Metal Village was the highlight of our trip. Interacting with th artisans there and seeing the whole process of making metal wares was really special. Kayaking on the Kavvayi backwaters was an unforgettable experience.

Nothing much to say. It's all about Rahul. He took us to the roots where we come from. Everything is natural. He has a very personal space in my whole life for sure. Rest you should go and experience there. Ask him for the SEA KAYAKING. You can hold that for lifetime. And Babuvettan's lunch. "Money is not a factor there"...:

My friends and I had visited the island for kayaking and beach fun for the entire day. While kayaking we came across two different species of rhizopus mangrove , the view of the ezhimalla hill, different species of birds and the green patch surrounding the island which was dominated by coconut trees. We were awestruck after seeing all this at the same place. And to add onto this we had kayaked to the beach and had the entire beach for ourselves where we had sighted a couple of peahens and had a great time at the seashore.Delicious lunch was provided by them. We had a magical experience here and would highly recommend this place to have a good time with nature. Special thanks to Rahul, our guide who was so kind and friendly.

I went Kayaking with Kavvayi Stories, the organisers of the camping, along with a friend. The two-hour adventure took us through a trail silhouetted by mangroves full of beauty. All along we received precise instructions and information on the Kavvayi backwaters from Rahul, our instructor. We had great conversations on the future of tourism in the area as well. The waters are shallower than one would think and, therefore, very safe. Since we took breaks to get down at various spots to learn more about them, the rowing was not tiring. We stopped by a part of the Valiyaparamba beach to catch the sunset before we headed back. We certainly hope to be back for a longer trail.

#KavvayiStories are worth to tell and listen! It's a wonderful experience through the unexplored passage between the sea, island and backwaters. Away from crowds, Kavvayi is an island of peace, lush green and fresh breeze. I can't see such a beautiful place for Kayaking and camping in the entire North Malabar region. Best packages and guides are available to Kayak in the early morning, warm and windy evening or full moon night! An hour-long Kayak took us through the mangrove islands and serene beauty of Kavvayi Backwaters. Just 5 minutes walk through Valiyaparamba island led to the beautiful beach and sunset viewpoint. Camping at the Coconut Island along with delicious food and live music made it a remarkable adventure. Thank you, Rahul Narayanan and team, for setting up a new model in sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.

    # One word review # Kavvayi camping: Once in a lifetime experience. Sea, backwaters from river, mangroves, greenery - what is not to like. If you would like to take a break from your hectic work or to spend few hours / days of your life in a calm and beautiful place, this can be the best option. We were there as part of our regular gettogetger and this time wanted to be in a unique place than our routine ( used to have in Goa / Bangalore etc.), and so decided Kavvayi camping this time. My expectation was little less in the beginning as it is not so far from my hometown and have seen similar places before also, but it ended up as a most memorable experience in my life as we enjoyed the island stay, food, campfire, kayaking through mangroves, private beach, we cooked ourself etc. Couple of points I wanted to mention about the place are 1. Itโ€™s not commercialized yet like others, still you can feel the virginity. Island stay, tented accommodation, campfire etc. 2. Kayaking going to be an awesome experience especially through the mangroves. 3. You will get a chance to enjoy your evening at a private beach where you can play, swim , and take rest. Last but not least about food and hospitality. Food was too good as they arranged whatever we requested and also we got some fresh fish as an additional. The hosts were too good, especially Jithin & Rahul, they were exceptionally good and accommodating people. They were with us for the whole time as a friends and guided nicely. Overall this is a highly recommended place both for those , who never experienced the nature living itโ€™s going to be a totally different experience and those who experienced definitely will get chance to enjoy our real natural beauty again. I will definitely suggest everyone to have a visit to this place and I can guarantee you that, this is going to be an adequate break from our digital life. Thanks.

we were a team of 7 with 4 children between age group of 13 to 16 and 3 ladies.our first experience of kayaking was filled with excitement. let me tell u, it is 200% safe with best quality life jackets and equipments which normally we dont find in many places especially in india. thanks to the 2 wonderful people whom we owe this to.. rahul and jithin, they have made their business their passion. really enjoyed kayaking through the mangroves. best part was kayaking across the backwaters to the island to reach the beach. it was much more easier and effortless than we thought. i wish them all the best and would definitely recommend this place. i am looking forward to have a camping experience with them during my next trip.

A bunch of 15 of us went for an over night camp to Kavvayi Coconut Island Camping site and it was a great experience! We were promptly picked up and taken in a boat to the campsite where evening refreshments were served. Post that all of us went Kayaking and it was great fun. Barbecue and dinner arrangements were excellent as well. Next morning we again went Kayaking and then returned back post breakfast. Jithin and Rahul are excellent hosts and organizers. Very accommodating and patient with our requests. Definitely plan on going back on our next trip!

A hidden gem and you would miss out on something big if you miss this. You can actually walk on water, see mangroves up close and see all kinds of ocean animals. Trust me, it's more than worth it.
