There
are
five
caves
on
the
lower
level
in

the
idols
of
Mahavira
are
in
good
condition.
They
are
secured
with
locks
and
keys
at
night
to
prevent
vandalism.
The

carvings
of
Yaksha,

The

The
Mughals
under
Shah
Jahan's
general
Khan
Khanan
captured
the
fort
in
1635
by
bribing
the
general.
In
1665,
Thevenot
mentioned
these
forts
as
a
milestone
in
the
journey
between
the
cities
of
Surat
and
Aurangabad.
Ankai

finally
captured
by
the

the
Mughals.
After

of
the
Maratha
Empire.
