One of my favourite hotels! The service is impeccable at all times, from the bar to room service and housekeeping. The rooms are spacious, luxurious and cater for your every need. Delicious food at breakfast and dinner and an excellent, wide ranging wine selection. I can’t rate this hotel more highly - one of the best in Africa, if not the world. The swimming pool is huge and lying on a sun lounger, drink in hand, overlooking the beautiful gardens is certainly my happy place! This is now our stop over every time on our way to Zimbabwe - it’s our reason for going to Johannesburg!

---FABULOUS HOTEL IN JOHANNESBURG! ---We recently stayed 3 nights at The Saxon Hotel. ---The hotel is in a beautiful suburb and it is gorgeous with amazing African Artifacts throughout the hotel. ---The entry level rooms are 860 square feet and are furnished in a lovely décor including a huge soaking tub, balcony, separate shower, spacious living area and lots of closet space. ---The grounds of the hotel have exquisite gardens and it is nice to stroll around. ---Nelson Mandela stayed at the hotel when writing his autobiography. ---We ate all our dinners in the hotel restaurant with live music and a great atmosphere. The food was outstanding, creative and of the highest quality. Thank you to our wonderful waiter Philani who provided us with attentive service and to Lindsey who made us delicious cocktails. Enjoyed meeting F & B director- Ashwin. ---The a la carte breakfast was also wonderful. Thanks to our servers- Onias and Elekune. ---Johannesburg is a very interesting city. Be sure to allow yourself time to visit it. We spent one day with a fabulous guide who explained all about the city and also took us to two townships. It was truly a highlight to see how the people live in the townships. We went inside their homes, had a performance by drummers and singers and saw the everyday life there. We found the people so friendly and happy. We then ended our tour at the Apartheid Museum which is a must see. ---If you are there on a Sunday be sure not to miss the Rosebank Sunday Market- it was fantastic and huge! Every day the Rosebank Arts & Craft Market is open where we bought some wooden African masks. Both are nearby each other and are only 13 minutes from the hotel. It is very safe to take Uber Black and very reasonable. ---The Spa at the hotel is fantastic! We had facials and massages. Thanks to Felicia and Faith who were exceptional. Also thank you to Thulia (Spa Reception) and Tanya (Spa Manager) ---Housekeeping cleaned our room to perfection twice a day. ---All the staff had great attitudes. --The hotel gave us lovely treats in our room every day. ---The General Manager- George Cohen surely knows how to run a magnificent hotel. ---If you are looking for the best hotel in Johannesburg with beautiful accommodations, great service and delicious food than The Saxon should be your only choice. ---There is a reason it won an Award for Africa’s leading boutique hotel.

We did a quick "spoil ourselves" wedding anniversary day and night at the Saxon. Right from the security at the gate, to the many personnel in the Hotel itself, we felt welcome and looked after. People are friendly and engaging. Nothing standoffish about this establishment. We loved the additional anniversary detail with the rose petals in the room and the candles by our bath when we returned after dinner. Lets not forget the chocolate coated strawberries! It is the little things that matter. Thank you everybody. On another note to the ladies that may read my review, the hair dryer is a proper dryer. Not this wispy type things that could not blow over a paper bag. Bonus. And a plus for us older folk, battling with eye make up, there is a wonderful enlarging lit make up mirror in the room. Towels for days and enough shampoo and conditioner to make you feel like the Queen of Sheba.

Was here over the weekend with friends for the High Tea. I would say the place itself is impeccable and really nice to be in. Feels high quality. I’d also like to say that the selections of savory and sweet bites were good. Friendly staff who all were quite knowledgeable and accommodating. But really that’s where it stops. If you want a real high tea experience jump to Oyster Box in Durban rather, or if you’re in Cape Town give the Royal Belmont experience a try. Why? Well when you’re at a tea experience it’s about just that, a full experience and an incredible amount of selections. It doesn’t feel like you’re involved at all. You’re given a handful of selections and that’s it. Service was a bit on a slow side for a Sunday and all that for an establishment that is supposedly “above star ratings”. If you’re a tall person, be prepared to bump into the tables with your shins. Crouching down and grabbing a bite to eat feels uncomfortable. What sort of improvements would I make? Well first the low tables. Secondly a wider variety of teas. Lastly, whilst the food and a persons experience in that regard is subjective, it needs a wow upgrade. If you’ve ever been to La Colombe in Constantia, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

Perfect verity of foods Saxon hotel is a very decent hotel and it's in the city center accessible to all major areas by safe boda or uber. Had a good sleep and the rates are reasonable. They have good wifi connectivity and the hotel is very safe. They have a bar on the first floor. Its cleaner than the other hotels nearby and the staff are friendly. Would recommend for a long or short stay. The display picture has a garden area which the hotel doesn't not have

Excellent !!!! The service is impeccable . A top tier experience. The staff is very helpful and everyone is friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean . The best part ? The refill of the small alcohol bottles every morning 🥲. They have everything from gin, whiskey, vodka the bar on the room with everything inclusive in the room rate . I had a chance of visiting the spa as well and oh my ! Just serene . A massage and the other services like the heated jacuzzi as well as cold pool . The breakfast is great different options caters for everyone . All in all A 10/10 experience

Absolutely stunning venue. I love the abundance of nature present at this hotel - you would hardly believe it's 5mins from the centre of Sandton. The vines are truly magical. The inside of the main building is also spectacular, with a very luxurious but comfortable feel to it. The high ceilings and plush carpets make you feel quite awed. The service just adds to the feeling that you are important and special - the staff are professional and friendly and always ready to help. The food itself is also fantastic, with enough choices to make sure any taste is catered to.

Went to Qnunu restaurant for a business dinner. Lovely setting and menu. Salmon starter was great and the special venison of the day was very tasty. Service was very average for that level of restaurant. Menu isn't cheap. Is it worth it? Well I think they pushing prices based on reputation and location.. overall had a decent meal.

5 star experience in the heart of sandton. My wife took me here for my most recent birthday and we had an amazing experience. From the food to the service. Everything oozes top notch experience. Would recommend making a reservation and wait till you see the property itself, pool area (chefs kiss), food (chefs kiss), location (you get the idea) give it a try… I find it difficult to believe you won’t appreciate it

Although the hotel offers beautiful surroundings, all the creature comforts and excellent cuisine you might require - as well as a truly world class spa - the real star(s) here would be the team. From the moment you enter through the imposing gates until you depart again - the team makes you feel like you are the most important person in the world, no matter who you might be. It goes to show that what makes a world class hotel is not the bricks and mortar, but the people who look after you when you are there. Well done to the Saxon team!

The hotel is hidden in the leafy suburb of Sandhurst and is surrounded by nature. The spa facilities are top notch....the staff are very helpful and is the core reason I'm giving five stars. Thank you to my massage therapist Nthabiseng for a wonderful massage & pedicure.

We have been treating ourselves at The Saxon on occasion for about 15 years. The staff are lovely. However, The Saxon has slipped quite dramatically. It feels a bit tatty in places and in need of a revamp. It is no longer "fair" value for money. Please guys - get your mojo back and we will be back! Also, the interior design has really stood the test of time - but definitely due for a complete overhaul.

Qunu restaurant service was impeccable. A truly fine dining experience from the wait staff to the live jazz music. The food was sublime. The crab and lemon verbena: that broth should be bottled and sold. I'm not sure why we waited so long but we will definitely be regulars.

Excellent service. Lovely meals were had by all. Impressive wine list and amazing cocktails that were both unique and addictive! Although Saxon Hotel restaurants have been shuttered for several months now, it was a lovely visit back. Refreshing also to enjoy a lovely, uncrowded garden setting. Saxon Hotels remain a very definite JHB must do.

We had a wonderful and memorable high tea experience and journey at the Saxon Hotel from the minute we entered the gates and drove to the reception taking in the serene and tranquil gardens and sparkling and spectacular infinity pool, followed by the friendly valet service and staff. The high tea was exceptional and we were impressed and delighted by the attention to detail of our every need - this is service excellence! What a memorable and special occasion to celebrate a 75th birthday! We look forward to returning again and would highly recommend the Saxon for celebratory events, which is a real and unexpected gem right in the heart of Joburg!

There is a willingness to make one's stay that little bit more memorable at every touchpoint. My most recent extended stay at the Saxon only reinforced this. This team has achieved an exceptional standard despite the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the hospitality industry. Exceptional.

The Grey restaurant is pretty good. I enjoyed my chicken although my friends found their lamb on the fatty side. Salmon looked delicious. Desserts are extremely decadent if you like that kind of thing.

I am in awe of the personalized experience. Nadia and Ashwin are gems The food is truly fine dining and the meticulous detail from staff as mentioned above made it a memorable experience. Yes. Its slightly more expensive than your normal go to brunch or lunch but the staff are amazing and go the extra mile. The food is really fine dining. Worth it all!

Absolutely amazing, 5 star treatment. Went for Mommy-to-be massage The Spa was absolutely delightful. The High Tea🫖 treats we delicious, with social distancing maybe the hotel should consider an outdoor setting the piano was a bit loud, we couldn't hear each other.
