I went in on Saturday for a special occasion. A reservation is essential. The restaurant is nestled in the mountains of Constantia's Nek. The road is paved so relatively easier to navigate. They have various menus, including the chef's menu, reduced menu, and vegetarian, to name a few. I chose the chefs menu and the team was able to accommodate the request of no beef or pork for me. This was amazing as the menu would not be the same if I were to miss courses. The menu is a bit pricey but well worth the experience. The entire experience takes about 3 hours, and while the individual portions are small, you would not leave hungry as there are many portions. They also have wine pairings, should you wish. The staff is very friendly and provide insight on the dishes as well as how one can best enjoy the course being presented. My favorite was the kazoo lamb. I would definitely return.

Wow. Just wow. Every detail has a meaning. Food was spectacular. View was extraordinary. Make sure you get the iconic wine pairing and the wine cellar tour. Pro tip: reservations are booked 3-6 months out. Don’t miss out

We had a fantastic lunch here to finish our South African trip. It was recommended to us as being a place for foodies. It did not disappoint. It was approximately £320 for two with tip (no wine pairings) but with coffee, numerous cocktails and sparkling wine. So I would say it’s on the expensive side for South Africa but for us it was well worth it. We went for the full chefs menu and did the supplementary wagyu. The servers were great, the food was delicious and the cocktails were fabulous to drink. I would recommend to absolute foodies or someone looking for a restaurant for a special occasion. We did book 3 months in advance and had friends who couldn’t get in because they had not booked this far in advance for January.

I heard about this place from another American in my hotel while I was in Joberg claiming that this is the best restaurant she’s ever been to. I always am skeptical about statements like that especially when it comes to food. I didn’t have much planned in Cape Town so I ended up being able to snag a reservation for our last night in the city. Thankfully I was able to get a table because this place is booked out weeks in advance. We get there and I’m already impressed by the service and atmosphere. The restaurant is beautiful and serene. The service is impeccable — everyone was so incredibly hospitable and kind. But the food is what sent me. Wow wow wow wow — truly the best meal I’ve ever had. It was an exquisite multiple course meal (so many I lost track), so much so that as soon as each course was over I was sad because I wanted more. Each course gets better and better — such a great experience and a must visit in Cape Town!

Wow. Wow. Wow. They say you taste with your eyes, and this meal was a visual (and gastronic) feast! Every dish was executed to perfection with little surprises along the way to keep you smiling. I've been to a few fine dining restaurants that put out great tasting food, but do not deliver at every level like La Colombe does. I can safely say this was the nicest experience I've ever had in a restaurant. Thank you.

This was my second visit to the restaurant, and we made a reservation at the end of September, as I know how popular the restaurant gets. The reservation staff was very responsive, professional, and helpful. As the dinner reservation timeslots were all taken, we ended up getting a lunch reservation at noon, which I am grateful for because it accentuates how beautiful the restaurant's location is. The restaurant is located on a wine estate in Constantia, and I believe that it really enhanced my dining experience. The wait staff was extremely professional, attentive, and knowledgeable. Upon our arrival, we were informed of the different set menu options, including the chef's menu and the reduced menu. The main distinction between these two menus is the number of courses, which translates into a price difference. We chose the full chef's menu and elected to have a different main dish as we do not eat beef due to religious reasons. There were eight courses in total, and the wait staff described each course. Some courses included a description of the origin of the dish's ingredients, or the staff would provide recommendations on how to best consume the courses. Each course was intricate, a taste journey, and a whole dining experience I had never had at a restaurant before. The courses can also be paired with a wine list, but a non-alcoholic pairing is also available. Despite the fact that this was my second visit after a year, each course was unique and provided me with an opportunity to try something new. Upon my reservation, I noted that we were celebrating my partner's birthday. The staff made it particularly memorable for him by thoughtfully providing him with a small birthday gift. Overall, it was a very good experience at the restaurant, and I look forward to coming back again.

I literally cannot say enough good things about this place. Fine dining at its.... finest. Not easy to get a booking, need to book well in advance due to the limited number of seats per night. Also very expensive but it is well worth it for an incredible experience. From the views to the setting and ambience to the chefs who explain and present their dishes and the impeccable service this is a WOW experience and truly world-class. Don't think, just go ahead and book a dinner here and you will be as blown away as I was. Zero complaints and I will remember this restaurant for a long time and certainly return again in future.

Absolutely superb! One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had - the Chef notes that the experience is theatrical and this is exactly what it is. Every course was divine, we didn’t take the wine pairing but we asked the sommelier to recommend some wines to go with the menu and her choices were spot on. The staff are exceptional, knowledgable and professional. If you have an opportunity to go - seize that with both hands and enjoy enjoy enjoy!

The best Dining experience I've had in a very, very long time! Every bite was magical and every dish was an absolute taste sensation to say the least. Phenomenal skill, design and taste. A must experience! 11 out of 10!

Very likely the best fine-dining menu in Cape Town at the moment. Friendly staff and and a beautiful venue (especially if you get a window seat). Tuna dish is legendary and the passion fruit curry is one of the most memorable dishes I've had. The caviar started was also extremely tasty. The wine pairing was not my favourite part of the lunch, however much attention to detail shows that the staff goes the extra mile to provide a distinct experience. And distinct it was! I'll be back.

OMG WOW. This really was an entire show! It wasn’t just dinner, it was an experience. The food is done with such detail and there are just so many components that amazingly work so well together. It’s amazing what they came up with. We did the whole chefs special 12 course meal with wine of course. The wine pairing was too much for us so we just decided to get wine to drink along with our experience.

Incredible culinary Experience. We first visited in December 2020 and again on Friday night and were blown away by the staff, venue and food. Truly chasing perfection and excellence in their approach to fine dining. The attention to detail in the plating, table setting and decor is so special. Exceeds any other fine dining we have attended internationally and a restaurant, staff and chef for all South Africans to be proud of. The Wine Cellar Experience was not something we had tried before and it was an event all on its own.

Best meal and experience for a while. Amazing level of consideration. Service was faultless and the food unique, fun yet did not take away from the delicious produce and impressive execution. Unbelievable value. A reason to return to South Africa! 💫

The most extraordinary dining experience I've ever had, as much a theatrical performance as a nice meal out. The food looks and tastes incredible; and the waiting staff are so attentive, in constant motion, seeing to everyone's needs and rescuing dropped napkins like an intricate machine. Get a good night's sleep beforehand because you'll probably be there for a good four hours! Which is a long time for one meal, but it's worth it: you've never been anywhere like this before!

Outstanding!! Service second to none and above the top competition (La Colombe, Test Kitchen), definitely at least two Michelin stars experience. Impressive comes short to describe a perfectly executed dining experience, the staff is definitely the perfect team. The food is delicate, very well balanced, and has beautiful complexity with an excellent flavor. Specifically the Game (ostrich) and Surfer Chow (fish) were exquisite and shouldn't be missed. The cocktails very good as well. A must if you visited and loved La Colombe, Test Kitchen, or Belly of the Beast.

Truly out of this world, no wonder it is rated as the best restaurant in South Africa! From the moment you walk in the door you are treated with delight. We had a lovely table overlooking the vineyard and forest. Each dish was presented spectacularly with an element of theater involved. The staff was friendly and very on point. I loved every single dish! The food was made with the freshest ingredients and the portion sizes was prefect. Will definitely go back. Booking is essential, and well worth it!! If you are a foodie you will love this tasting menu!

We had the opportunity to eat at some of the finest dining establishments in Cape Town and Johannesburg over the course of a month and we believe the Greenhouse chef and staff definitely deserve kudos for excellence in creative cuisine, superb wine pairings and fantastic service. There are short and long tasting menus, we did the long menu and were extremely glad we did since everything was so interesting and tasty. Portions are just right, we didn't leave feeling too full but we certainly had enough at each course to thoroughly enjoy the flavors and preparation. The Greenhouse also has a fantastic ambience which we have found at many other Relais & Chateaux properties around the world - perfect for a romantic date night. Make sure you take a short stroll in the gardens when you visit. Highly recommended!

Everything was delicious, but the seafood potjie with Adam Fume wine definitely stood out among the other dishes. Some people mentioned the generous portions of wine, my experience was actually a little bit the opposite. After the whole experience I was still fine to go for a walk in the gardens and have a beer - not sure if this says something about the overall size of the meals, or just me. Background music didn't match the setting - sometimes too "populair". Overall a great dining experience with excellent and friendly staff.

The presentation of the dishes was probably the best I have had so far! Small masterpieces with an incredible level of details (see the pictures). For the first few dishes the taste unfortunately did not totally match the presentation, but the dishes got better in the middle of the dinner making the experience definitely Michelin star level (potentially even 2 ⭐️ with small changes in the first starters). They also directly “compensated” 2 tiny cooking mistakes with a free dish and 2 glasses of wine 👍 Overall a great experience!

A unique outing that you have to try at least once in your life. The theatrics are unmatched by any other fine dining place I’ve tried. And the flavours keep up with the theatre. Absolutely delicious! All 5 senses are involved from start to finish. Staff are also warm and friendly. Overall a top tier dining experience.

I just came across these pictures on my phone and was reminded of the wonder that is La Colombe. Once in a lifetime experience. The mussel curry in the charred passion fruit was so delicious I wanted to cry…. Absolute perfection. I cannot believe they don’t have a Michelin star!!!

Continues to be as amazing as my last visit 7 years ago, which speaks to the consistency this restaurant continues to deliver! Felt welcome from the point we met security at the car park and beyond. Though quality of service observed throughout the restaurant appears a little patchy this time, we felt fortunate and had the best service from Darryn which completely enhanced our overall experience this time round. We can’t wait to come back again soon in the near future.

What a perfect place to celebrate a special birthday. The Chefs Menu and beverage pairing are simply mind blowing. Inventive and unique. Worth every cent if you want to spoil yourself properly. The service from Dale was nearly flawless ;) They are worthy of all the accolades.

  • 5/5 Jesper N. 3 years ago on Google
Truly excellent! Would be 1-2 Michelin stars in Europe, which is a steal at less then half the price. The best thing was the visual and creative flare. The flavors of some dishes could have been more bold (thinking primarily about the oyster curry) and more crunchy textures would enhance even further, but everything was very tasty. The standout was the tuna starter, the aged duck and the tropical dessert.

I always look for the quality of the products, mastery of flavors and cooking techniques, value for money, setting, service and consistency between visits. The most difficult part is to decide impartially, fairly and honestly review which is very difficult as we all have different taste buds, styles and expectations; Therefore my reviews are based on my “Papilles” and experience. La Colombe is an icon in the WC and deserves to be visited. Exquisite tasty food, topped up with lovely flavors, the chefs have the knowledge and techniques to master dishes accompanied by beautiful wine. The experience is close to unique. Classy venue and polite staff, service is awesome. They are consistently delivering.

We did the Spring Lunch Chef’s menu and it was absolutely phenomenal. More than just fine dining, it is an Experience. I loved the theatrics, but I must add that 11 courses is quite a lot! If I had to do it again, I’d go for the option with less food. (Weird, I know, to want less food, but it does become slightly overwhelming towards the end) Overall, super cool experience, and definitely something I’d recommend one does at least once in their life.

A 6 course dinner with drinks pairing was R3000 for 2. The food was presented fantastically & was tasty but everything was so small. I finished each course within 1-4 scoops & left hungry. Presentation of each dish was a bit rushed. The serving of drinks was also small - a half of 340ml of beer was shared between us. It's a fine dining experience but definitely not value for money.

  • 5/5 Ziyaad B. 3 years ago on Google
Absolutely spectacular experience at La Colombe! The food was beyond delicious, plated creatively and the whole experience was theatrical and perfectly executed. The restaurant has the perfect setting amongst beautiful landscapes with great views. The interior design of the restaurant contributes a great deal to the amazing experience too. The service was top-class! One of the best dining experiences ever!

  • 3/5 Renchia A. 3 years ago on Google
The physical space was nice, theatrical and each area was specifically used for a specific purpose. However, I found the food too rich at some instances and the time between courses could be shorter based on the lockdown regulations. This meant that the last two courses were rushed.

  • 5/5 Linda 3 years ago on Google
The food at La Calombe is as amazing as always but I was surprised to find that the menu was an almost exact replica of the last meal we ate there in 2019. We ordered the special at R695 pp and they automatically charge 12.5% service fee. Corkage is R120 per bottle with the first bottle being free. So completely fair to us locals and a deserving service fee. It was fascinating to compare the dishes to those presented 1.5 years ago and I would say that in 2019, they seemed to add a little more on the plate and this time there was one course less. In fairness, I think the price has remained the same so Kudos to them for maintaining the standard and great value. We enjoyed every mouthful and had a fabulous lunch and look forward to the next visit. I had included a few pictures of Sept 2019 and then March 2021but I see Google will not show them.

From start to finish it was a magical experience. We were welcomed and shown to the bar for incredible cocktails and a view of the gardens. It was the best choice we could have made for our 2nd year wedding anniversary!

Amazing experience from the beginning to the end, and a restaurant that I'd say helps puts Cape Town on the global culinary map. The food was presented like artwork, the flavours and textures were exciting and created anticipation for each successive course. The use of "non-standard" methods such as grantia being made with liquid nitrogen at the dining table and a flask of ponzu being heated at the table waiting to be poured over the soon-to-arrive dish added to the experience. The staff are very professional but warm and approachable, and the venue was charming making it a great place for a special occasion. Definitely worth a visit to see what creations they can come up with.

We had a lovely evening out at the Greenhouse. The service was very good and we enjoyed the barman/sommelier-in-training (can’t remember his name, think it was John), well done to him. The wine selection for the pairing was prefect, with great wines. We enjoyed the beautiful venue and cozy, stylish atmosphere. The presentation of the food was beautiful and flavors were nice. They do not really cater for guests who do not drink alcohol and did not serve any alcohol free beer and only had 2 Savanah free’s on the premises.

Lovely experience. Great food, friendly staff and nice ambience. Sommelier really knows their wine. I would definitely come back. Their Beet dessert was my favourite.

Very peaceful environment😁 services were amazing. Super friendly and helpful with explaining the menus, the food was delicious and creative. Would recommend to try the place out, do note, the tea or coffee option with the dessert would be ideal if you don't have such a strong sweet tooth 💪

We had the longer tasting menu with wine pairing. Every course looked amazing and the wine pairings were spot on. Quite a theatrical experience that is good for a very special occasion.

La Colombe offers the finest lunch experience in Cape Town. We went for the 12:30 sitting on a Saturday. The service was exceptional, very helpful and friendly staff. The food and pacing was perfect. Every dish was unique and interesting to see and eat! I will go back.

What a fabulous fabulous treat!!! From entering the restaurant the service was absolutely outstanding. The food service was beyond our expectations and everything so delicious and tasty. Ambience great, location unbeatable, food out of this world. World class!

Fine dining to the next level! This is most probably one of the best restaurants in Cape Town and it delivered on all fronts. The food was exceptional - world class, the service was spot on and the overall experience was something we will always remember. I would highly recommend.

While dining here I thought "la colombe exists in an alternate reality where everything is perfect" and this is true for 95% of the dishes. So creative, packed with compatible flavours, each and every dish you just wish there was more. The only exception was the dessert the constructed mandarin just didn't really work for me. Otherwise this place is a gem. Go there

We had the chef’s menu last night and all I am going to say is that I am still on a food high after what we got to experience. From the presentation to the flavours of each dish. Opulence like no other. I also highly recommend adding the wine pairing. Chef’s kiss 💋

This certainly was one of thee most amazing dining experiences I have ever had. The food was simply out of this world. The attention to detail, the pairings, the timings the staff, the setting. I tried for months to get a booking at the time I was visiting and finally last minister was able to obtain one and I’m so glad I got to experience this. Could not recommend enough

This is definitely a 5 star experience!! Words can’t begin to describe how amazing it is. All the dishes are fabulous and presented in such a unique way that it really is like going to the theatre and experiencing a show. Definitely recommend for a special occasion!

La Colombe is an exceptional experience. 5 months ago we visited. The experience is definitely on a completely different level. It will be said once... It is very expensive, not for South African standards, for European standards. That being said, they don't try to be the best in South Africa, they aim to rate themselves with the best in the world. We went for the full experience with the iconic wine menu. There is very little I could fault in the whole experience. If one is in an over critical mood it might be possible to get yourself in a mindset that there are things wrong. That is not my gig and I can really enjoy a master doing his absolute best to excel at every turn. A word of advice, take an uber.

10/10 - An absolutely faultless meal - Each dish seemed somehow tastier than the last. Absolutely recommend opting for the wine pairing. We were just blown away by the service from Filipe, Beatriz and Tristan and huge thank you to the Kitchen team for such absolutely beautiful food. The most wonderful spot for a real treat of a meal and to visit here again would just be a pleasure.

How do you summarise an experience like La Colombe? For mere mortals not accustomed to fine dining, it is easily a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, or something every few years. The service is unparalleled, with personable waiters and waitresses sharing the story of every course. There will be flavours that will surprise you, and a strong playful element that will delight you. The cost … for mere mortals … was R7000 for 3 people, and that’s with no alcohol of any kind. But this really is an experience that feels genuinely worth it, as it imparts indelible memories. Treasured laughter with your companions with each new food discovery. And, ultimately, a sense of gratitude for being able to just be there and experience it. Thank you to the La Colombe team who make that well-rehearsed magic every night. Here’s to only success … and fun.
