I would say that the cleanliness and renovations made to this beautiful estate were the only reasons for this 5 stars but what really put them over the edge was the fact they were pet friendly and had the perfect grounds for dogs to enjoy the place as well. The pool and grounds were so nice and spread out to allow for the dogs to run and play well!

Absolutely zero star. We upgraded to the superior room, which surprisingly has a smaller window than the cheaper room. The room doesn’t even have a kettle!! The bed is so narrow, and with bad quality pillows, my neck hurts!!! Generally speaking, I feel like I have stayed in a servant room( tiny window plus low ceiling), yet I spent 130 euros per night. I don’t understand why on earth would this hotel has 4.4 stars rating on Google map. You are donating your money for such a bad treat. Would not recommend this place at all!!! Please, you can have a much better experience with this price.

The setting is beautiful, the manor traditionally impressive but ruined by a cheap-looking and small pool and a modern lift that runs along the facade of the old house like a growth on a pretty face. When asking for a beer, I was told by an overworked waitress that the wait would be 20 minutes because there wasn’t enough staff; a Saturday evening. When my wife later ordered drinks for the family (of four) she waited over 15 minutes for the order. When we finally settled down in a few comfortable chairs on the terrace we spent some time to clear up the mess from the previous occupants; including broken glass on the floor. Someone had broken a champagne glass but it wasn’t cleared up. Not a problem for us with slightly older children but it was for the many families with toddles about the place. The restaurant food was fine. Somewhat pretentious perhaps without the quality one would hope for or one would expect from a place that likes to cater for an up-market clientele. The wine list was pretty good. All of this could be forgiven if the staff was friendly but the inexperienced, somewhat arrogant and non-caring bar staff left us, as a family, knowing that we would not come to this place again. Oh and if you like loud elevator music playing everywhere on the terraces whilst surrounded by beautiful countryside than this is the place to visit. If you prefer the clatter of the fountains and birds settling to roost, than this is not your place.

Restaurant extremely expensive for what you get. Aweful quality. Union soup without soup (Just some cookies unuins without moist). Pork meat as dry as it gets. Incredible small portions. Rooms not up to 4 stars either. Way too small. The setting of a Castle is fine, but all in all its a scam.

The standard rooms are outside of the main castle in an annex. Quite simply, they don't feel like they meet the requirements of a 4-star hotel. The rooms were small, the decoration rather bland, and the walls between rooms thin, to the point where you could hear neighbors going to the bathroom or their phones vibrate when they receive a text message... One of the rooms did not have hot water and one of the hair dryers had a hole in it. The tiny table in our room served as a TV stand, a telephone stand, and a place where the free water bottles were offered. An event made our stay much worst though: on the second night we discovered that one of the door's locks was not working. We notified the staff who explained they would fix this while we went out to have dinner. We got back, the door was still wide open for anyone to come in. We had our work computers and other expensive items in our rooms. We called the front desk and were informed that they had simply forgotten about it.. They offered to put us in another room, but seeing as how we had a baby that just fallen asleep, that was not a convenient option. We were supposed to stay a 3rd night, but shortened our trip because of how disappointed we were overall. When we went to pay the bill, the staff did offer us a discount for the inconvenience. However, upon reviewing the bill, we noticed that they tried to charged us for a more expensive champagne bottle than the one we had ordered in the lobby bar on the first night (30€ difference). With all this accumulation of grievances, I simply cannot recommend this hotel in good faith. I'm sure the superior rooms are much nicer.

Amazing location, and beautiful building and park. Unfortunately the service did not meet expectations was very slow. And the restaurant was booked for a event leaving no place for quest to eat. The rooms were clean, but did not give you the feeling of staying in a castle.

The hotel has a lot of potential but it doesn’t exactly hit the mark. Quite expensive for what it is - would’ve expected a higher standard of service and quality for the price paid.

In diesem Hotel stimmt einfach alles!

I had a lovely stay at the Chateau de Saulon. From the moment we stepped in the reception it was a warm and friendly atmosphere and service. The location and amenities were perfect and the restaurant served some exceptional food and wine. I reserved the hotel via a "SmartBox", but I would definitely come back another time.

We had an excellent week in the hotel with our 7 month-old baby. The staff was very professional, they helped with any requests we had. The rooms were nice and clean. Both the park and the swimming pool was well maintained. The hotel is located close to all the big vineyards. Just a perfect hotel for family vacation

Terrible check-in experience. Rude staff. We arrived at 3pm and as my husband walked up to reception, a rude lady just said, "Your room is not ready. Come back in our hour." No greeting. No apologies. Didn't even ask my husband's name. Our room was only ready towards 4:30 pm. The property does not look like the pictures we saw online. The pool area is in a terrible state, and there are horrible wooden sheds erected around it. The paving and hedges you see online have all been removed. The rooms are tiny and uncomfortable. We had no soap, toilet paper, or coffee in the room, so we had to go downstairs to ask for the basics, which should have been there. For dinner, my husband wanted to do the chefs surprise menu. I wasn't too hungry, so I just wanted a small meal. We were told he could not have it unless I had it, too, which was ridiculous. The food was good. And restaurant service was good. They have erected an ugly glass lift on the front of the building. Totally ruins the aesthetics. I would suggest they grow vines over it / board it in and cover it with shutters so that it looks like it is part of the originalbuilding. It is so ugly and also boiling hot inside. We chose to rather use the stairs as it felt like a sauna inside. All in all, It was a complete letdown and was definitely not what we had expected.

We made our reservation on the website. We got a confirmation email, but apperantly something was wrong with visa information, and they said they've send us two email about this. We never received this email. They cancelled our reservation. They should have called us by phone. They found a solution for us, at a hotel with a spa, which was good. We didn't have to pay for the extra costs. However we specifically wanted a hotel with swimming pool outside. They found a good solution, however it still was a stressfull and not-ideal situation. Therefore, we only give 2 stars. As respons on the reply of the hotel: As said before (?!), 1) why would you send a confirmation email if you do not confirm? 2) Pick up a phone and contact people directly, emails are bad communication for urgent issues. 3) we actually did not receive any emails regarding this credit card issue (not even in spam), but we received emails with confirmation. Please tell me how this is possible. 4) You should not blame customers for your mistakes and especially not publicly. You are in hospitality business. ==> Considering the situation we were happy how the issue was solved and we would have come back, however because of your reply we would not come back.

Fantastic location if breaking trip from UK to Med, especially as a family of 4 & dog! Dinner was really fantastic. Very comfortable and would certainly return again soon. Agree with some comments, the studio rooms were lacking compared to other 4*, but the staff were very helpful. Highly recommend!

My wife and I together with our dog Coco have stayed at the Chateau Saulon for four times a year for over six years and cannot recommend it more highly. The rooms are perfect for us and the staff excellent and willing to help in any way they can. The restaurant is outstanding. The only problem in recommending the hotel is that we wanted to keep it secret !!!!

Great hotel dealing with the difficulties of COVID extremely well - very clean. We stayed at the hotel along with our 3 children, lovely room in one of the annex buildings. Great car park right outside of the hotel, everything you would expect from a grand french chateaux with large open grounds for the children to play and a great pool. One only negative is that food options were very limited for both adults and children. They would be well served to have an outdoor pizza oven/hut! Definitely recommend.

We stayed for 1 night before we went cycle touring around Burgundy. The hotel kindly allowed us to leave our vehicle parked for one week. When we came back, we stayed for a second night, upgrading ourselves to the bigger suite and using the pool. Very chilled and peaceful. Friendly staff, lots of help with the local wine selection. Would recommend this place for others.

The Castle has been nicely renovated and is located in an incredible Parc with pool, river and such a peaceful athmosphere. The food is really good too. We can only recommend!

I have memories of amazing meals in their restaurant and was really looking forward to a gastronomic midday meal. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the restaurant has been replaced with a BBQ on the terrace. A few things went wrong with my service, but they were dealt with quickly and efficiently by the lovely waiters Tanguy and Alla. The BBQ offers a very limited choice of food. I chose sausage and a tomato and lettuce salad. I was initially given one sausage and a few overdressed lettuce leaves. When I brought the omission to the attention of the waiters, this was increased to 2 sausages and some quartered tomatoes were added to my plate. Alla also brought me two sauces. The sausages were nice but the whole meal was far from the Chateau de Saulon quality I’d previously experienced and was very over priced. A beautiful château and grounds should at best offer gastronomic experiences, or at minimum a high quality meal. Sadly today, the food and the experience fell very short of being either. I don’t know what the lunchtime meal in the restaurant is like since the hotel reopened, but they need to rethink the Monday and Tuesday menu.

We concluded to host our wedding in chateau de salon after reviewing all the chateau’s nearby .As we do not live around , we had to communicate remotely our requirements . I would like to thank Vanessa from Chateau de salon , who managed the organization so beautifully. She listens to all needs&req from the bride and groom and puts in place everything possible (I speak English and my husband is French ) . A special huge thanks to Vanessa for handling our wedding ❤️ for making me sooo comfortable and just seeing to it that everything I need was taken care of so I can just enjoy my D - day . The chateu is simply elegant , with huge parks that we can walk around . We chose a room for aperitif near the park and then the dinner in the room above the restaurant . We had very very particular food requests after we tasted all the food and wine . Oh and the food was DELICIOUS for the wedding !! The gateau was excellent ❤️I have 0 complaints and so glad that I chose this as the venue though there was another 5 star chateau around which had 0 flexibility . Our guests loved the food and also loved the stay at the chateau . We plan to visit the restaurant again for some food :) We will always recommend this place and restaurant for listening and being flexible for our needs.
