I went here after doing some acid in the park. I highly recommend it. Great fun for the whole family. Particularly the Hieronymus Bosch exhibition was both a window into my own soul and it's many desires, as well as a mirror that allowed me to cast my gaze back and see myself for the true being that i am. Good bathroom facilities also.

May 2023 I enjoyed visiting this museum, and some spectacular works of art even though I am not an art lover. The guided tour was with a private guide, so I am unsure if they offer this service daily. I learned a lot in 45 minutes. This is all the time we had, but I would recommend a longer visit. Lots to see and take in. Full security check (bags are checked) and you walk through a nodybscannet. No photos can be taken inside. So, my photos are exterior shots. Before going there, our guide recommended going in with as few items as possible to make our entry fast. The gift shop had everything as most do, and affordable prices.

It’s a gorgeous museum with a great collection. Unfortunately, we had issues trying to buy tickets online (they charged me but never emailed the tickets), and then we were yelled at for trying to take a photo. I’ve been to multiple art museums and have never experienced the no photo rule, so this should be MUCH clearer and marked with signs instead of shouting staff.

The best art museum in Madrid, Spain. Don't mention Madrid without visiting it. A huge number of masterpieces are on display. Just looking at the core works requires investing more than 3 hours. I definitely recommend visiting Bosagi. Free admission is available after 5 p.m.

IMO, a must-visit museum in Madrid. There are many things to see and the good news is the exhibits are well organized. Strictly prohibited to snap photos although I saw several sneaking shots. Just avoid getting caught. 😄 Don’t forget to pick up a brochure at the information counter which is available in several languages. It’s quite handy as it provides the layout of the museum and the star pieces in each room. Hence, if you don’t have an entire day free to inspect each piece of artwork, make sure to view the most important or significant artwork in a room. That’s what we did and it saved us a lot of time while enjoying the best works of renowned masters.

It is okay. Many of the pictures are very samey, there are hundreds of portrait pictures in there. It is a great museum but I think perhaps people set the expectations too high for it. If you are here for multiple days, I would recommend perhaps spacing it out over several days during the free hours from 6:00 to close at 8PM. You still have to reserve your free ticket online. You're not allowed to take pictures but I was able to take these before they told me no.

The collection currently comprises around 8,200 drawings, 7,600 paintings, 4,800 prints, and 1,000 sculptures, in addition to many other works of art and historic documents. As of 2012, the museum displayed about 1,300 works in the main buildings, while around 3,100 works were on temporary loan to various museums and official institutions. The remainder were in storage. The museum received 2.8 million visitors in 2012. It is one of the largest museums in Spain.

I was a bit disappointed with the Prado museum, maybe because I had high expectations. I read that it's in the same league as Louvre, Hermitage in Russia and British Museum. Well, I've been to all these places and Prado is not in the same league. It has mainly paintings (small number of sculptures) and the number of paintings is less than in other museums I mentioned. But the bigger problem is that many paintings look alike. The variety is pretty low. There is the limit on how many paintings of Jesus and saints you can see. For me the best room was the Hieronymus Bosch room and judging by the number of people in that room I was not the only one who thought so. In addition they don't allow you to take pictures inside! (but I did take a few). I allocated 2 hours for the visit, but was out after one hour. They do have a nice cafeteria near the entrance.

It’s a nice museum with many great artworks of the history but I found it way too overcrowded and overwhelming. Would recommend to go to the Thyssen museum instead. Also, they don’t allow to take pictures inside. If you do plan to go, consider spending at LEAST half a day. It’s a huge museum with lots of artwork and history to assimilate. It also has a nice cafeteria to have break while you visit.

Walking this place was such a powerful experience, I've never felt my hair raising from looking at a painting. I literally shed some tears with some of these pieces...amazing collection of priceless art. Go in the afternoon for shorter lines and cheaper entrance fee. Ask the staff questions, they are really helpful. The place is clean, the lighting is amazing and the overall elegance is just superb! Best museum I have ever been. Go, don't miss it...

Plan on spending the entire day in this museum. Amazing collection of artwork in every room. I would recommend checking off each room on the map as you meander through all three floors of exhibits so you don’t miss anything. Photography is not aloud inside but there are plenty of books available in the store full of brilliant color pictures with descriptions and history.

Great museum! We went for the Goya and the collection did not disappoint. The last 2 hours of the day, the museum is free to enter. You will still have to reserve tickets (at no cost) to get in even if you go at the end of the day. It's best to reserve them online ahead of time so you can get the earliest spot for the free hours. There is also a gorgeous cathedral across the street that is beautiful at night!

The museum is not far from the city center and is easily accessible by foot or with public transportation. This museum is huge and you could spend an entire week in it and still not have seen everything. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. If you just want a glimpse of the museum or have the time to visit on several days, the entrace is free everyday from Monday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays and on holidays. Apart from a few rooms, it's not allowed to take pictures.

Way too much to see for a regular visit. Would recommend to get the overview map and pick a few favorites to go see because it would likely take a day or more to do it all justice. Though for only 15 euro a return visit another day is a good option. Particularly wanted to see the Goya's Black paintings. They had a room of their own with a very atmospheric display. The museum in parts was busy but set up big enough that it didn't feel too crowded.

Really got surprised, museum is impressive and the building itself. Totally recommend, it is stunning, I want to come here again. Rubens, Goya and many others. Just no words, much better than in more popular museums in Paris or Amsterdam. Also one of the replicas of Mona Lisa is here, just amazing condition.

Good for Goats! Not too crowded, ac, lots to see, put aside 3+hours to really enjoy it. $15/adult non resident, half.off i believe for filks over 65 and kids under (12?) are free. The Cafe was reasonably priced for a Museum and tasty. Tickets were cool, they had pictures of parts of the artwork on them. :3 The Real Botanical Gardens are free before 13h (1pm) on Tuesdays.

Organization inside the museum is eclectic in the bad way, sometimes seemingly without much rhyme or reason. Important pieces placed rather randomly, with Goya strewn across the entire place in ways that are not easily understandable nor explained by the museum. Some rooms were packed with pieces, others with sparse walls throughout. No photos allowed, which is a bit weird compared to most other similar places around the world, but understandable. However there are no signs indicating as such, nor is it marked on the tickets or mentioned otherwise. Instead guards randomly will rush across rooms to stop visitors from photos, which is pretty bad for the experience of all guests in my opinion, which could be easily solved by putting some signs up, but whatever. (If there were signs they were very poorly placed as I habitually look for these things when entering an establishment.) Maintenance and cleanliness is poor for its status as a national museum, litter was commonly seen in hallways. Importantly, the lighting is awful in many rooms for proper enjoyment of the pieces. Lastly it should be noted that the line to purchase tickets is long and slow, and ticket price quite expensive compared to many other attractions, including similar museums around the world. Consider that this museum is 15 euro while the Louvre is 17 euro. Overall a seriously overrated destination unless you love Goya

The Prado is an amazing museum with an incredible collection of masterpieces from some of Spain's most famous artists including Velazquez, El Greco, Goya, Picasso and Miro. The collection is enormous so plan on spending a fair bit of time here. Do grab a guide which shows where the more famous pieces are displayed and visit the Prado's website to get suggestions on what to see if your time is limited. Regular admission is 15E but it is free 6:00pm to 8:00pm Monday to Saturday and 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday. However, unless you arrive very early (a minimum one hour in advance) you will spend a long time in line (we gave up after 20 minutes). If your time in Madrid is limited and/or paying 15E is not an issue don't waste your precious time trying to get in for free.

Excellent selection of art, but not tourist friendly. This museum comes highly rated, but it’s certainly not for how guests are treated. There is a QR code to help navigate the museum, but I tried to open it, and I was falsely accused of trying to take a photo of a painting. From that moment, I was stalked from room to room by museum staff, even though I had put away my phone, realizing I could not use the map. The art is beautiful, but the staff stalkers were distracting. The cafe and gift shops were way over priced and social distancing was not enforced. Not an enjoyable visit, or one that I would repeat or recommend.

Definetly one of my least favorite museums in Europe. Unless you are only interested in Religious painting not much to see. Big huge rooms with 2 or 3 paintings which wouldn't even be mentioned in major museum. I expected much more. The one exception to this is: the Garden of Earthy Delights by Bosch. The painting definitely is out of place in this museum. Expensive....as well. No pictures allowed either. Go to 3 others and save some money

I am not a fan of the Renaissance, but the collection was well displayed and the galleries large and filled with light. Saw all of the must sees and enjoyed it. Don't miss the Bosch room. Dude was off the rails. Buy tickets in advance or you will wait on line for hours.

he Prado Museum Spanish: Museo del Prado officially known as Museo Nacional del Prado, is the main Spanish national art museum, located in central Madrid. It is widely considered to have one of the world's finest collections of European art, dating from the 12th century to the early 20th century, based on the former Spanish Royal Collection, and the single best collection of Spanish art. Founded as a museum of paintings and sculpture in 1819, it also contains important collections of other types of works. The Prado Museum is one of the most visited sites in the world, and it is considered one of the greatest art museums in the world. The numerous works by Francisco Goya, the single most extensively represented artist, as well as by Hieronymus Bosch, El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, Titian, and Diego Velázquez, are some of the highlights of the collection

Finally I get to see the real painting of Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights! It’s hard to imagine someone from the 1400s painted this! And of course, the museum also housed many other famous paintings! This is the reason why I’m in Madrid! Mission accomplished. No photo taking in the museum though I saw some did… not my problem 🤣

Entrace is free on weekend, late afternoon, still, you have to take ticket on the main entrance, and than enter on other entrance..be prepared to wait in line at least 30min. Basic Ticket for adults is 15euros. During the day, it is less crowded. If you want to see all masterpieces, you will need at least one hour. Take the free museum map when enter. It is worth the time, even though you are not fan of art. If you carry a backpack you will need to leave it before starting the tour, you will get the number..

I think i must have been super lucky as I walked in with no queue which was about 3pm but when I walked out the queue to get in was very long.. I took the audio guide option but they do free guided tours so perhaps research what times these are on before you go.. I think it would be more interesting to have a guide to put everything into context. Photos not allowed inside which of course is a shame but there are lots of great paintings , many of them on religious themes ..

The collection is obviously world-class but the museum itself had some issues. At the information desk they told me to scan a QR code to see the museum map online because they didn’t have paper maps. This seemed reasonable enough until I took out my phone to check it in an exposition room and was accosted by a staff member who was policing the no photo policy. The staff policed the no photo policy so much that it seemed some people were afraid to check the map on their phones. I’m sure the workers themselves are simply following orders but the management might do well to review their policies. This is also problematic because there are few clear indications of where you are within the building once inside the gallery space. The signage is poor and confusing, inside and out. The descriptions of the pieces are written in tiny letters which requires most people to get fairly close in order to read it. The museum police were all over this too. Basically, it was hard to just enjoy the experience because the staff was projecting suspicion. The atmosphere and set-up in Reina Sofia, or comparable museums like the Louvre, Met, or Uffizi is better in my opinion.

Purely for art lovers. Be prepared to walk a lot as this is a huge place with lots of exhibits. The ticket price is steep at 15 euro per adult. However, there is a way to get a free ticket from 6pm to 8pm. But you’ll need to queue for this early in the morning.

I haven't been in all the museums in the wold yet, but i guess it is one of the greatest and biggest. Be prepared to walk a lot from one room to the other, trust me they are neverending. It is very difficult to fully appreciate everything in a day, but you can do your best. On tuesday from 18-20:00 it had free visiting hours. No photos allowed, but you find the most talented spanish painters. So many people waiting for the free ticked, but the staff was so fast, you got the ticket in less than a minute. Spanish people very polite and helpful in every institution. 😊

Fantastic museum with beautiful collection. One should plan 3 - 4 hours to see everything without pacing. The only disappointing thing is the entry - this could be definitely organized better, also another point - the map of the museum could be also designed somehow better with a kind of route to follow. Sometimes you need to wonder in which room exactly you are. Minor improvements, but above all - absolutely worth visiting

A must visit while in Madrid for art lovers, buy your tickets in advance at the official site. Photos are not permitted in the main galleries. Huge crowds around the famous Prado at works but with a little patience you can work your way to get a good viewing. Highly recommend the guided tour which will ensure you view at least 4 or 5 of the famous works.

Ended up being my favourite part of Madrid. • Price - decided to go during the free visiting hours @6:30pm; @6pm huge line - but moved fast, and by 6:40 no longer a line. After visiting - would have happily paid the €15 • Quality - astounding. Many thought- & emotional-provoking pieces (Aesop fable interpretations, the six-year girl presented that Spanish court commissioned 2x paintings, the birth of the Milky Way). I missed the Mona Lisa (draft!) but saw so many other brilliant pieces. • Timing - could have easily spent 3 hrs. Ended having to leave at 8pm (a bell was rung & we were all ushered out; a shame as I wished I could have visited the museum store) No photos allowed - I wish I could have shared some! Would definitely go back.

Ticket office and real entrance are different. So I recommend you buy tickets in advance. Then you don’t need to wait in the ticket queue. There are many Francisco Goya’s work. Audio guide is €5. It was super helpful. They suggested 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and fully tour courses. I really enjoyed it.! One more thing, y can't take pictures in there.

Claro me he encontrado con mis favoritos pintores El Greco y Diego Velázquez! Not just one 😍

The Museum Prado is the great place you should visit being in Madrid. There are many items were nice to see by my own eyes. The single ticket costs just 14€, for minors with an adult tickets are for free, but it wasn't possible to buy it online. The queue wasn't so long, but anyway better booked your tickets online. Unfortunately, it's forbidden to take pictures inside of the museum. What a disaster!

Went there on a Sunday early afternoon at it wasn’t very crowded. Still, the more famous paintings were hard to see. Buy a ticket online to avoid the queues especially on a hot day. The museum is pretty well organized. You will need a while in there if you want to see everything. We spent about 3 hours without looking into detail. The Goya collection is very good and interesting, so if you don’t have enough time skip straight to it. No pictures and videos in the rooms.

Amazing! Such a variety of great paintings! I would strongly recommend to start with the first floor, then the second and at last the ground floor. In this way you will be fully concentrated for the best floors in the beginning! If you don't want to wait to enter just buy the ticket in advance online!

I visited the museum and used the 2 hour self guided tour as shared on the museum website. It was super helpful as the museum artworks are exhaustive and you could spend hours and hours. I had bought my ticket online so the entry was super smooth! I do recommend doing this as the entry lines can get long, and it is quite hot especially in the summers! The museum has a couple of cafes which are perfect for taking breaks in between.

July 2023 1. The only other museum to be able to see the Mona Lisa in public (the other one is the Louvre at Paris). Enough reasons to just pay a visit 2. It's astound the minds the number of artwork and the priceless values just within touching distance (not that I am encouraging you to touch) but the close proximity of the art 3. This museum really puts a stamp that Madrid is one of the top arts centres in Europe 4. Good place to spend a hot summer afternoon for a couple of hours (away from the general heat) 5. It's even busy on a weekday afternoon (maybe because it's a summer holiday?) Tip 1. The cafeteria at the lower ground is much better than the small cafe on the ground floor 2. Pictures not allowed. You will be reminded nicely by the curators on this 3. Children below 18 years old get in for free. Remember to bring an ID or image of ID to proof the age.

Sehr viele Räume in insgesamt 3 Stockwerken. Riesige Anzahl an Gemälden. Man darf eigentlich keine Getränke mitbringen. Foto machen ist eigentlich auch verboten. ( März 2023 )

Quite big museum: 2 hours are barely enough to see the whole museum, more interested viewers could stay there even 3 hours or more. The price is quite high but the ticket is free for students (the own student card along with an ID is enough, no need of "International student card" as stated in the website). Free entry for everyone the last two hours (6-8pm or similar, check the website) but go there at least one hour before (even more on weekends) because the line can be really, really, really long.

Amazing place to visit, learn and appreciate history. I've spent 2 days visiting this place and still couldn't finish it. Those visiting Madrid, it's a recommended place only if you have interest in past. If I compare between Vatican & Prado, Prado is my top choice.

You see those people in the background? That's the line I captured of those trying to get inn. This was taken 2 hours before the museum closes. That line stretched for miles and miles. If you have a limited time in Madrid, I suggest to order your ticket ahead of time. Save your skin from the hot Spanish sun and enjoy the Prado's collections. The only down side of this museum is that you can't take pictures inside, not even cell phones. But overall it's a great collection of art and they are very efficient at place holding you're bags as you can't carry big bags inside.

He ido varias veces, y estoy encantada. He llevado a varios amigos.

Great place to spend the late afternoon. If you want to go during the free hours (6-8pm) you have to get the tickets when they open (10am). You can’t just walk up at 6 to get in (we saw many people being turned away). Inside it is very organized, clean, friendly and informative staff and a good selection of arts. Even our kids were engaged the entire 90 mins.

Absolutely amazing and magnificent. I bought the ticket for a day only and it is impossible to absorb all of the museum in a day. If you have the time and patience, revisit the museum on the other day. The audio guide is also very informative. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Around 32 euro for two tickets. Not cheap, but worth the money. Stay as long as you like. They do not allow photos. I discovered this after I took three and a guard stopped me. I decided to be take a picture of the bathroom, it was clean.

Really excellent collection of art -- possibly the best I've ever visited. The absolute highlights are Goya's atmospheric Black Paintings and the El Bosco triptychs, but there are lots of other gems here. (The policy of not allowing people to take photos is ridiculous.)

The museum and the collection are wonderful, but there’s work to be done when it comes to tourist-friendliness. There’re no flyers with how to navigate the museum only qr codes that allows you to download the map (not very informative though). That would be totally fine if only there was a public wifi in the museum.

This has been indeed the most incredible museum I visited in Spain. It’s a mesmerizing maze that portrays one of the best vivid and exuberant collections in the EU. The religious paintings and all the references to the Greek mythology took me aback! All the paintings are so beautifully preserved that make you believe they were painted just yesterday! They have discounts for students and the elderly as well. Make sure you reserve at least half a day to fully visit all the floors and read all the information on every splendid piece of art. You can’t claim you have visited Madrid unless you visit this magnificent heaven of art!

This magnificent museum contains some of the most recognizable and most all inspiring works of art to be found anywhere in the whole world. Here you will find works by Goya, Velasquez, Rembrandt, Renoir, and all of the other famous painters that you can name. The attendance in the wardrobe are a little rude because they only allow one item to be stored per party, which makes no sense. Try to consolidate your belongings before you approach the wardrobe. There are also no photos allowed in the museum. Pictures on the gallery walls suggest that there might be an audio guide but we could not find one in the museum or online, which is a shame.

I had the privillege to visit Prado Museum for the first time. The place is super big. I bought the ticket on the spot and queue for a while for €15. You can visit the museum for free if you are local at 2 hours before its closed (6-8 pm). The direction signage of the museum is not very clear. One of the entrances is exactly above the ticket booth area. The museum is divided into rooms, based on the artists. It will be helpful if there is a summary of the direction in front of the stairs. I felt a bit overwhelmed with the number of the paintings shown here. It is super a lot!! The paintings are beautiful. I cannot finish the whole rooms, even I didn’t have chance to go to planta -1 I definitely will come back when it is a free time slot. You cannot take picture inside. But, make sure you explore the merchandise shop. They have very very nice selection. Definitely one of the places to visit when you are in Madrid!

Prado Museum is probably one of the top highlights of your visit on multiple trips to Madrid. The art work is very impressive and could easily compared to other top national galleries in the world. It has a great collection of the most famous Spanish artists and I would suggest to break your visit to multiple days. I was able to take a few shots that probably will not represent the richness of the general exhibition alone. We were lucky not spend too much time in a line up. However, I would recommend buying tickets in advance. I hope you enjoy your visit. Thank you!

Part of stolen gold from around the world in 15,16,17,18-th century, aristocracy spend on paintings... Result you can see in Prado. Fiew paintings are really nice. On some of paintings you can see very good presentation of degeneric aristocracy faces. Overall, very good organised museum so people can see part of human history through paintings.

Beautiful art, as expected! The most important thing you need to know about this museum is that you literally cannot take a photo of anything once you're inside. NOTHING. Not even the description of a piece of art. I am not sure of the reasoning behind this, but I will say it's actually nice for a change. There aren't crowds gathered to try to take a photo with a famous painting like most museums. You can actually just enjoy the art. P.S. There is a Mona Lisa painting inside (one that didn't make the final cut but the colors are so vibrant and beautiful, I prefer it over the final piece hanging in The Louvre 🙈).

The collection is great however the staff is disappointing. I got the impression that the staff despise visitors. During the visit there was some kind of a „performance” and various clothes were scattered on the floor. On one of them I slipped and fell. I hit my butt and leg hard. My phone has been broken. I tried to report it to the staff but I was ignored. Horrible experience. According to the pictograms, the use of cameras and camcorders is prohibited, but the staff does not allow you to take pictures with your phone! There is no information prohibiting the use of the telephone, and the staff disdainfully does not allow it to be used. The staff speaks very little English

Had a wonderful time at Prado Museum. Everything is orderly, we entered on time. Recommend purchasing tickets online for seamless experience. The museum itself is extremely well-maintained. First of all don't think because you buy timed tickets it will benefit you. It won't. Secondly, I have been to some amazing museums around the world but this was disorganised, underwhelming and just not fun. Staff were the least friendly of all museums which is funny because I found it the least impressive. No photos can be taken so you can't save any memories therefore.... as soon as you leave you pretty much forget what you saw. Not as much a museum as a.... hyperbolic gallery for rooms.... and rooms... and rooms.

Big and interesting museum. Museums are my passion and it was a pleasure to visit. There are restaurants inside and cute souvenir shops. It was fun to watch art students creating replicas of famous paintings. The minus was that there are disconnected halls on the same floor of the building so we had to go tho the 3rd floor, explore some halls there, then go back to the second floor, walk from one end of the building to another and then go back to the 3rd floor again. Also some parts of the build are accessible only via elevator. At least they were during my visit.

Beautifully laid out museum with so much to see. We were surprised to stumble upon a Picasso out of nowhere. Remember: you are NOT allowed to take photos of the artwork. Also, they were running a combo deal: 24€ for general admission and a Prado book. It was a great buy! General admission is normally 15€ and the book retailed at the gift shop for 24€ alone.

ICONIC ART MUSEUM - BUT IT'S HUGE! The Prado is the most important art museum in Spain and it's comparable to the size of the Louvre. It's overwhelming but if you can manage it it's an enthralling museum full of some famous pieces that you'll have seen. It's a massive museum, so please take your time and take note of the maps and signs because it's an easy place to get lost. Downgrade points for the prohibition of photos and videos, but otherwise good.

I spent very little time, Since I was with kids who were not so interested in art. But what I experienced in that short time was very satisfying. The very first paintings that I got to see were of religious flavor, for which I do not possess the buds. But then there some very beautiful ones. Remember you are not allowed to take photos. The gift shop was also good with the replicas and moderately priced.

The building that is now the home of the Museo Nacional del Prado was designed in 1785 by architect of the Enlightenment in Spain Juan de Villanueva on the orders of Charles III to house the Natural History Cabinet. Nonetheless, the building's final function was not decided until the monarch's grandson, Ferdinand VII, encouraged by his wife, Queen María Isabel de Braganza, decided to use it as a new Royal Museum of Paintings and Sculptures. The Royal Museum, which would soon become known as the National Museum of Painting and Sculpture, and subsequently the Museo Nacional del Prado, opened to the public for the first time in November 1819. It was created with the double aim of showing the works of art belonging to the Spanish Crown and to demonstrate to the rest of Europe that Spanish art was of equal merit to any other national school.

The Prado Museum (/ˈprɑːdoʊ/ PRAH-doh; Spanish: Museo del Prado [muˈseo ðel ˈpɾaðo]), officially known as Museo Nacional del Prado, is the main Spanish national art museum, located in central Madrid. The numerous works by Francisco Goya, the single most extensively represented artist, as well as by Hieronymus Bosch, El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, Titian, and Diego Velázquez, are some of the highlights of the collection. The remainder were in storage.[3] The museum received 2.8 million visitors in 2012.[4] It is one of the largest museums in Spain. The best-known work on display at the museum is Las Meninas by Velázquez. Velázquez and his keen eye and sensibility were also responsible for bringing much of the museum's fine collection of Italian masters to Spain, now the largest outside Italy. The first catalogue of the Museum, published in 1819 and solely devoted to Spanish painting, included 311 paintings, although at that time the Museum housed 1,510 from the various royal residences, the Reales Sitios, including works from other schools. The exceptionally important royal collection, which forms the nucleus of the present-day Museo del Prado, started to increase significantly in the 16th century during the time of Charles V and continued under the succeeding Habsburg and Bourbon monarchs. Their efforts and determination led to the Royal Collection being enriched by some of the masterpieces now to be seen in the Prado. These include The Descent from the Cross by Rogier van der Weyden, The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymous Bosch, Knight with his Hand on his Breast by El Greco, The Death of the Virgin by Mantegna, The Holy Family, known as "La Perla", by Raphael, Charles V at Mülhberg by Titian, Christ Washing the Disciples’ Feet by Tintoretto, Dürer's Self-portrait, Las Meninas by Velázquez, The Three Graces by Rubens, and The Family of Charles IV by Goya. In addition to works from the Spanish royal collection, other holdings increased and enriched the Museum with further masterpieces, such as the two Majas by Goya.

One of the most amazing museums of art to be found in this world. Spain's artistic heritage is unquestionably quite extensive -- The Prado is proof of that. There are also plenty of other countries represented among the museum's amazing collections as well. This is a not-to-be-missed artistic highlight of Europe.

  • 5/5 Jenny Carolina P. 3 years ago on Google

How can such a beautiful museum and content be with such a bad customer service. With the covid, locker have been removed (it is indicated on the ticket, but without highlighting and no reminder - maybe you forgot that many of your customers are still tourists). I have been refused the entrance with no empathy from the staff and without even getting a workaround for this problem while I had bough the ticket (just that is not our problem, while it clearly is as it looks like you are not able to clean lockers while other museums can...). You should take care of you customers and staffs as much as you take care of the art you are exposing !

This is a good museum, not too overcrowded with too much art so you get to enjoy the artwork and the different artists. I just wished it was bigger and also that most of the sculptures were not copies. It is not as big as the Louvre in Paris so an afternoon should be sufficient for you to visit El Prado.

Great stuff and a pleasure to enjoy without crowds (i.e., pandemic). Brought a backpack, I guess I missed on the website where they said that's not allowed. And they mean it. No lockers, and no commercial locker facilities nearby. Back to hotel, drop backpack, back to museum. When I initially got my ticket, I was told I could return to get a *timed* ticket to enter the special exhibit. I asked what time I needed to return to ensure I got a ticket, and they said at latest an hour before closing at 8pm. Not knowing how long I would be in main museum, I chose not to get a timed ticket. When I went back to get ticket for special exhibition at 5:15pm I was told none were available. I asked if I could get one for the next day. No, sorry. That's a bummer. And why are photos not allowed???

(Translated by Google) The world's top 3 art museums. Even looking around, it takes hours. There are also several pictures seen in the textbook. Art students need to go to work for a few days. A large art museum with over 30,000 artworks such as paintings and sculptures. Together with the Louvre Museum in Paris and the Hermitage Museum in St. The Prado Museum began to be built by Carlos III in 1785, originally intended to be a natural science museum. The person in charge of the design was Juan de Villanueva, a representative Spanish architect at the time. However, the construction was stopped due to the war with Napoleon, and after the war, the plan was changed to a museum that houses the art of the Spanish royal family by Fernando VII. Even after the royal gallery, based on the vast collection of the Spanish royal family, became a national gallery, the collection of valuable art continues to this day. When looking at the composition of the work, the Spanish painting section is also substantial. The gems of El Greco, Goya, Velazquez, who are said to be the three masters of Spanish painting, and the painters who were active in the golden age of Spanish painting in the 16th and 17th centuries, are admired. In addition, there are many Dutch Flemish works, which were deeply related to the Spanish royal family, and Italian paintings such as Rafaello and Botticelli, masters of the Renaissance period, are substantial. In addition, masterpieces of European paintings such as Germany and France, as well as a group of ancient sculptures, are also exhibited. The Prado Museum has three doors, each with statues of Goya, Velazquez, and Murillo standing as if to greet visitors. It may take some time to enter due to security screening. Shooting is prohibited inside the building, and large luggage can be left in the storage room. The first floor of the Prado Museum displays works by El Greco, as well as works by Spanish and international painters from the 15th and 16th centuries. El Greco, who is said to be the three greatest Spanish masters along with Goya and Velazquez, is regarded as'the painter who expressed the purest Spanish spirit'. His works in the Prado Museum are 39 pieces in total, such as <The Holy Trinity> and <The Annunciation of Conception>. Among them, <Portrait of a Knight with a Hand on Her Chest> is considered one of the best works by El Greco. Representative works of Flemish paintings of the 15th and 16th centuries include Hieronimus Bosch's Garden of Pleasure and Brugel's Victory of Death. Italian paintings of the 15th and 16th centuries include Renaissance protagonist Raphael's The Holy Family Who Drives the Sheep, Botticelli's The Story of Nastajo Deli Oneesti, and Angelico's The Annunciation of the Conception. On the second floor of the museum, works by famous painters who were active in Europe in the 17th century, including the royal painter Velazquez, are on display. Velazquez's masterpieces, including portraits of royal families, include <Las Meninas> and <The Surrender of Breda Castle>. In addition to Velazquez, the 17th century Spanish paintings include works by masters such as Surbaran and Murillo. As for Flemish paintings of the 17th century, you can see numerous masterpieces such as Rubens's The Holy Family, The Garden of Love, and The Three Goddess. In Dutch paintings, Rembrandt's Self-Portrait creates a mysterious atmosphere. Goya's work, a treasure of Spanish painting, is on display on the 2nd and 3rd floors. In particular, the 3rd floor, which has a small exhibition area, is like an exclusive exhibition room for Goya. His early works, such as <Festival of Madrid> and <Tags>, are mainly works with bright atmospheres that vividly depict everyday Spanish landscapes. Goya became the court painter of Carlos IV. Through his <Carlos IV Family>, <Maha Naked>, <Maha Dressed>, etc. You can also look at the change. [Naver Encyclopedia of Knowledge] Prado National Museum of Art [Museo del Prado] (Just go tourist destination) (Original) 세계 3대 미술관. (Translated by Google) A spacious place in its entirety. It is the cult of fine arts par excellence. It has many rooms. Paintings of very chosen styles and painters. Both Flemish and European painters. The sizes of the canvases are huge. The clear attention on painters is to the tastes, of those who collaborated in making this collection. This museum is 201 years old. Contains 8045 paintings. Tiziano, Velazquez, Murillo and many more. There is a guide. Photographs are not allowed. No matter how many times you go, you always want to see more. There are also other collections such as coins. For me, a painting that contains a special force is Velazquez's painting, Prince Baltasar on horseback. Its magnificent strip of leaks, to activate the perpesctive, that you walk a little behind, and the horse is on you. It was like an omen, or the wish that it went to the future or to infinity, I say to the race of knowledge ?. It is the best you can visit. There are always queues to go. Patience, it is worth it.

A famous and historic art museum with many of the world’s most famous pieces. It has a good customer focus, a really nice restaurant/coffee bar with also an outside terrace, and great toilets. The entrance prices are very reasonable for such an iconic place (especially for older people) and the cafe prices are mid-range for a tourist centre. I visited in a pandemic and the rules were strictly enforced, in a professional and helpful way, ensuring visitors had their safety prioritised. It was a huge bonus to find the gallery very uncrowded and to see these great paintings easily from any distance or angle. I visited twice, the second time I signed up for a guided tour with ‘The Best of Madrid’ and I learnt a lot from a friendly, warm and very knowledgeable guide.

The Prado has the best exhibits. Make sure to buy tickets in advance; you're required to also bring printed tickets (not sure if this has changed recently). But the exhibitions are great and the staff is quite friendly. Make sure to make time to visit the museum gift shop; they have so many unique and cute things for souvenirs. No pictures allowed inside unfortunately. Note: Visited in January 2020, but catching up reviews because of COVID.

Concentrated dose of art, passion and beauty. It took me several hours in my first visit without being able to finish the highlights. This is my second visit, and unfortunately, it is in covid miserable time! Major changes, and a bit disappointing. Most of the rooms can’t be accessed. Some selections of the paintings are gathered for display. ( only 3 of the black collection of Goya that I have returned particularly to see again- so sad) So inconvenient that not available any more, all the paper materials that guide you to not to miss masterpiece paintings, and no electronic alternative. No audio guides, no lockers, no back bags are allowed. You can access the official website and listen to general reviews of each room ( in Spanish). After all, both temporary exhibitions were breath taking! Really worth the visit, and found it organized with source review electronic PDF content. You must book your ticket in advance as limited number is allowed.

I absolutely loved this place! I spent in this museum for two days and was absolutely mesmerized by the collection. Velasquez is one of my favorite painters. Seeing his painting, in reality, was breathtaking. For one thing, I never imagined they are so huge:) And apart from Velasquez, Prado's collection is a masterpiece after masterpiece, Goya, El Greco, Rubens. If you are in Madrid, this is really not the place to miss.

Great museum from collection, execution and affordability point of view. Navigation and the building are much much better than in Louvre. Respect to the museum for a free entrance between 18 and 20 weekly days. Highly recommended!

Prado museum is really big and now i see that the way to go is just aim a particular set of painters that you want to see. All of them was just too much. We did a nice tour by bus and stopped where we wanted to visit more. The city tour was around 20 euros for an adult and it was really worth it. You can take 2 routes - one that contains the historical places and another with modern ones. You can take both rides with the same ticket and you can either buy the tickets at a press kiosk or directly from the bus.

One of the most impressive Spanish museums. A must if you love art and especially paintings. You can find there the greatest paintings by the most important Spanish painters such as Velázquez, Goya, Murillo or El Greco, among others. A little bit difficult to visit, even using the map.

  • 5/5 Sam P. 6 years ago on Google
I went here because it is the most famous ... but I recommend going to the Reina Sofia Museum if you're not a super big art person. I enjoy art but I'm not an expert, and the Prado museum has very old art - from highly Spanish skilled artists however it is a lot of the same style throughout the museum.

  • 5/5 Maria M. 5 years ago on Google
Goya and El Greco were the best. Very worth going there and enjoying the masterpieces of renown Spanish and not only Spanish painters.

I was particularly delighted with this museum, it has a wide variety of artistic movements and loved seeing the Meninas. It was deeply fascinating, the composition and expression of the characters was unique. In this museum you’ll find Saturno, The Garden of Earthly Delights, The annunciation and more!! 100% recommend visiting when in Madrid. Totally worth it.

  • 5/5 Julia “Jade” C. 2 years ago on Google
Gorgeous and perfect. Worth coming at the last hour for the free entry, but also worth it for the last three hours of the day so you have the ability to see everything and have a casual snack halfway through. A must see for any art history buff, but also interesting for those who have no prior knowledge!!!

This place have a lot of halls and an impressive gallery of paintings and sculptures, most of It from 1450-1900 A.c. The tickets have a cost from 15 € each adult... You must have time if youre going inside, ITS huge... But gorgoeus, and the coffee ITS pretty good... no pictures allowed AND the cellphone must be in your pocket all the time

  • 3/5 Anibal S. 2 years ago on Google
Lots of paintings and some sculptures. Mostly from Spanish painters and history. I related a lot more to Louvre and other museums. Done in less than 80 minutes. It seems to be free at end of the day, so that would be a better deal.

A must visit for every visitor of Madrid interested in culture and art. The collection in the museum is second to none. You can quickly spend 5 - 6 hours here. The historic building provides a perfect stage for classical painting.

The Museo Nacional del Prado is Spain's national art museum, and is often considered to have one of the world's finest collections of classic European art. Sourced from the Spanish Royal Collection, expect masterworks from Goya, El Greco and Rubens plus a lot of Italian art. Leaving modern Art to the other nearby museums those who prefer such are well-advised to snag free entry online as the highlights can be seen within the 18h00 to 20h00 timeframe.

Must seen, you are going to learn a lot (Gayo and Greco are the most important) but be careful if you don't have enoigh time. I expected that 2 hours is enough if i make a quick visit, but guess what? I was there 5 yes FIVE hours, and sure i will visit again! Very interesting because every piece tells you a story so imagine how many hours you need to read those explanations!

  • 5/5 Oliver T. 2 years ago on Google
Fantastic galleries with beautiful art throughout. It is very large so be warned that you probably won't be able to see it all in a single visit

  • 5/5 Niko V. 2 years ago on Google
Wonderful museum. Interesting, beautiful works on display and including a little bit of context and explanation. Would recommend to use a guidebook (for example Rick Steve’s wonderful tour) to give a little bit of extra context (and also limit what you should visit, the place is big).

  • 4/5 Marta C. 2 years ago on Google
So it would NOT hurt them if they posted more info sings "to the toilet" or "to the cafeteria" and if it's forbidden to have your own water, then access to drinking water should be provided, covid or not. What I liked VERY much, was No Photo policy, like no photo at all. So nobody is bumping on you while trying to get a good frame, or nobody is standing in front of masterpiece with stupid smile posing for picture. That makes the visit much more enjoyable and the museum shop is full with albums and postcards of most famous pieces.

A must see if you are in Madrid. Leave yourself at least 2.5 hours. I easily could have spent 4-5. Make sure you pick up a floor plan map to make sure you don’t miss anything! Very reasonable price. They are serious about closing times, be sure you pay attention!

  • 5/5 Vishal H. 2 years ago on Google
Brilliant museum with an incredible display. You would need days to fully appreciate this place, and to educate yourself on this history. Makes me feel a little forlorn that we don't do more to preserve and celebrate African art the same way.

  • 5/5 Benna P. 2 years ago on Google
A perfect trip for art enthusiasts. So many masters under one roof, can't ask for anything else. Give plenty of time to appreciate all that is offered.

I'm an amateur of art, so don't really take my advice very seriously. Very beautiful museum, full of lots and lots of art history. It's really really interesting, but at least for me it was too much. Make sure that you take at least one full day (with breaks) so you can take everything in.

There is so much here that it is not possible to view all the works in one trip if you don't spend the whole day. However, I did peruse my the works of my favorites, Goya and Velasquez. Also, I spent a lot of time looking at the sculptures of persons and ditties of Roman and Greek mythology.

Probably the first museum I've ever been to where I was impressed all the way! Renaissance artwork is extremely different and there's so much more details. Can't find a lot of this type of artwork in Chicago's museums, at least. Really enjoyed my time at the Prado! Since my bf is an artist and was more attentive to detail, we spent close to 2 hours to get through the whole museum. Highly recommend you buy tickets in advance because there was a long queue that we were able to avoid! Pictures are not allowed in the exhibits FYI!

  • 5/5 Leo A. 1 year ago on Google
Good place to spend the whole day. It is better to be prepared in advance using their website to choose at which masterpieces you would like to spend time. You just can't see it all in one visit! We couldn't get tickets online (no timeslots for that day) but went there and bought tickets on site.

Excellent collection of artwork. The museum is home to a 7500 paintings, 8000 of drawings and 1000 sculptures. It is open everyday from 10 AM till 8 PM (on Sunday until 7 PM). The entrance fee is 15 euro (guided tour costs 35 euro). But what is worth to know is that after 6 PM (5 PM on Sunday) the entrance is free of charge. Pity that taking photos inside the museum is strictly prohibited.

  • 5/5 Spencer R. 1 year ago on Google
Classical art. Lots of it. Lovely visit but preferred Thysssen and Reina Sofia with their range of art styles and artists across the ages. Free tickets can run out especially on Sunday. Useful tip: collect free tickets earlier on the day of your visit (opens at 10) so no need to queue, nor any chance of disappointment. Also avoids large queues at 6pm (final photo).

Prado museum have a lots of Goya’s painting. If you want to see the famous piece you should come here! But the museum is very big and it’s better to plan a whole day visit to see everything.

  • 5/5 Donavin W. 1 year ago on Google
The museum is one of the top 5 in Europe for me. Their audio guide map could use a bit more work. If you followed artwork numbers chronologically you were jumping around rooms and floors... however if you went room to room you would shift back and forth between styles and time periods. The content was OK, but the presentation of the audio guide tour was disappointing. We gave up and went room by room looking for paintings with numbers we wanted more info on, rather than follow the 3 hour tour.

  • 4/5 Chloe S. 1 year ago on Google
Nice museum but not worth the enthusiasm! It is as expensive as the Louvre but in no way comparable to it. I particularly enjoyed the collection of Spanish painters (many Goya’s, Velasquez’s)

  • 3/5 Joël L. B. 1 year ago on Google
This museum has one of the best art collection in the world. However, there appears to be no real logic to the visit. The audioguide covers just a selection of paintings.

One of the most impressive museums I have ever seen. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch? No words needed.

  • 5/5 Evgenia O. 1 year ago on Google
Just an amazing place. I see no reason to talk about expositions, Goya, Bosch, Velasquez, Rembrand speak for themselves! Friendly staff, cleanliness, comfort, excellent selection of souvenirs, wonderful and very cheap children's books. Highly recommend!

  • 5/5 DESPOINA C. 1 year ago on Google
One visit is definitely not enough. The numbering of rooms which are 102 with A and B sections and lack of signs to take you around makes the visit completely chaotic. It is definitely a must but make sure you do your research in advance and try to find the most interesting pieces to save time.

  • 1/5 Katerina P. 1 year ago on Google
The museum was frankly disappointing. Very unpleasant employees, too expensive entrance almost 20 euros, and nothing to see. If you have been to the Louvre or Italy, then I do not recommend visiting. They ask and force you not to take pictures, and then why do you make such an expensive entry? Make 2 euros and no photo. People go to this museum not only to look at the paintings, but also to keep them in their phones as a keepsake. Weird rules about bringing water into the Museum, you can't drink water, too strict rules for the price.

This museum is incredible,it is the must to do in Madrid ! Obviously, the museum is huge, so if you want to enjoy every corner of it, it will take time. At least 3h in your day is great ! The plan and the organisation of the rooms are a bit messy, so make a list of artwork you want to see if you are in a hurry. Take your ticket in advance if you can. Don't forget to visit the shop, nice souvenir to buy. The staff inside were all very kind.

  • 5/5 Mariam S. 9 months ago on Google
The Prado. The museum holds valuable collections of famous painters such as Velasquez, Goya, Tintoretto, and Rembrandt. We went on a Sunday and it was a bit crowded. I think I will have to come back since I could only see a part.

  • 4/5 Lazar L. 9 months ago on Google
Great museum with stunning pieces of world wide art heritage. 4 stars because the museum of this size and importance must have descriptions in english for all art works. We bought tickets online for specific time slot, but I didn't find any advantage of it as I was still waiting in line to exchange the voucher for tickets together with people who were buying tickets in that very moment. Also, option with audio gide (5€ each) is included even for the small children which doesn't make any sense and it was an unecessary expence. I rather recommend to visit the museum work days 2-4 PM and buy tickets there or you can buy them online and if you need audio guides you can take it for the same price as online but for the people who really needs it.

Great for people who love paintings. Great representation of that era. However I missed real things like (armour, crown etc etc) from that era (1300-1700). Cafeteria is very expensive..

The official palace guided tour was fully booked so I opted to join a tour with a private company. If you plan to visit, I recommend booking the official tour in advance. The guide seemed to provide a more in-depth commentary. Whatever you do, don't miss the armoury, with a massive collection of armour for men and horses as well as an impressive display of weaponry.

  • 4/5 Rafhaan S. 10 months ago on Google
Huge collection of art with some amazing pieces that can be appreciated by everyone, even if you are not particularly into art. It's a very large museum though and the layouts can be a little confusing. The audio guides are very useful, especially with the different level of details depending on how much time you have. Something that would improve it would be a routing guide through the museum based on the most famous and important pieces so that you can follow a set path. Still definitely worth visiting if you are a tourist in Madrid.

  • 5/5 Mohsen S. 9 months ago on Google
Magnificent. I really enjoyed Picasso’s arts they had in there. Of course other Spanish painter’s arts were fabulous as well. I highly recommend to visit here. But at least consider 3 hours for the full visit.

  • 4/5 Miguel C. 9 months ago on Google
Key tip for your visit, from 6pm to 8pm is free. Great pieces from Velasquez, Picasso, Goya and my favorite El Greco. Sad part is that photos are prohibited but I didn't knew it, and got some at the beginning.

  • 5/5 Eris M. 8 months ago on Google
I went at 10 am and left at 8 pm. I just barely finished the museum, I didn't get to the temporary exhibits. I rushed at the end (medieval and sculptures got less attention--not counting Bosch) I took three breaks of 30 minutes in the cafe and one tour. I would say allow SIX HOURS at a minimum. The guided tour is good if you want to learn a lot about 6 pieces of art in an hour, more or less. (Honestly it is) It's bad if your time is limited and you already know about art or what you want to see. No photos allowed but I took a couple of hardstone pieces that are not at risk from ageing or accidental flash. (I didn't flash, regardless). THERE IS A LINE at opening, even if you already have tickets. But it goes relatively quickly. It's slowed by metal detectors.

never regret to visit an art museum. stayed in for 4 hours. if not because of my hungry stomach, i would have stayed in for longer. so much art that inspired you. is a must to visit if you like artwork.

Walked here from Sol area. It was a good stroll to the museum on a Sunday. It was slightly crowded due to tour groups. A very nice museum — believe it is broken down to -1, 0, 1, and 2. A map is helpful as it is broken down to numbers and shows you where bathrooms are as well. A small cafe is found inside, look like finger food and coffee. A good amount of hours can be easily spent here. I bought ticket at the front desk just general for about 15 euros.

Absolutely one of the best art galleries/museums in Spain. I first visited in 2019, and then came back again for a second visit in 2023. The Goya collection is especially worth viewing. On some weekdays, there is free entrance in the evenings, but you do have to wait in line!

Such an incredible museum, with the most breathtaking art. Was lovely to see so many of Goya’s works. Take note that it is very busy, and no photos are allowed to be taken of the art.

The Prado Museum has a unique collection of paintings, statues, and drawings that will keep you delighted. You choose what way to go. You can spend between 3 hours and a whole day or two if you so wish. Check their website for times that are free to enter. When we went, it was free from Monday-Saturday, from 6-8 p.m. and Sundays and public holidays, from 5-7 p.m. Pictures are not allowed inside.

Large and beautiful art museum. They don't want you to take pictures of the art. Cafe's available as well as book stores. We didn't have that long of a wait but getting tickets in advance would be recommended.

If you have the opportunity to visit El Prado, you must go! It is an incredible museum filled with amazing artwork from many great Spanish artists. I bought my ticket in advance and I highly recommend it. Otherwise, you will be standing in line in the full sun for a very long time waiting to get in. I also recommend renting the audio guide to learn more about some of the paintings. I enjoyed hearing more about the history of some of the great artwork and artists. I spent three hours exploring, and I loved every minute of it. Definitely visit the Black Paintings by Goya when you go and Las Meninas by Velasquez.

Stunning museum! Didn't expect it but it left us speechless, especially Bosch collection. We went on Saturday around 2pm, the entrance was almost empty and only 3 people in the row for the tickets, we have entered in a blink of an eye. Four hours inside weren't enough, it's a definite must visit in Madrid and save some time for enjoying art inside.

  • 4/5 David N. 5 months ago on Google
I am not an art person my wife is so she was looking forward to the museum and it did not disappoint you seeing in person artist she only read and seen photographs of. I will review based on my experience at the Met and other museum. No foto por favor. This is a shame, I've never been to any art museum where no photos are allowed. The recorded audio guide was fine but the trying to find the art pieces in the order dictated by the guide was frustrating. Content wise this museum rivals the other great but structurally they can invest more in the building.

  • 5/5 Brendan D. 5 months ago on Google
The museum is fantastic. We didn’t take a lot of photos inside - the ones online are much better anyway - but it’s worth the time. Tip: allow PLENTY of time if you want to see it all. We spent three hours and didn’t even see half of it. Lovely place.

Such a beautiful and interesting artwork with stories behind each piece. I really enjoyed the paintings from the 1500-1600’s. I liked that the art seemed to tell a story. If you start in chronological order, it will be a trip through Spanish history. Very beautiful and interesting! Great way to spend 2-3 hours during the peak hot afternoon hours. Enjoy :)
