Really pleasantly surprised by this market. It retains traditional charm while still having modern conveniences like air conditioning in parts, ease of access to public transportation, and incredibly clean streets (I saw almost as many people sweeping and cleaning as I did vendors). It's also much bigger than it appears and we spent hours wandering through the different streets. A must-see when in Doha

A must visit traditional space in the heart of Doha, very rich in culture & experiences. Great to walk around all day while enjoying various foods from local stalls or sitting in restaurants & people watching to avoid the midday heat! You can find rare old snacks, all kinds of spices & amazing handmade crafts & souvenirs. خبز رقاق is a necessity!!💜

This is a Souk is truly exceptional. It's a captivating and intriguing place where you can find just about anything you can imagine. The historic architecture, preserved beautifully, takes you back in time and is simply mesmerizing. The lighting adds to the enchantment. With various shopping zones, including the Falcon Hospital and shops near the Bird Souk and the taxi rank, it's perfect for wandering, dining, and people-watching, especially in the vibrant evening atmosphere. As the night falls and the temperature cools, it's an ideal spot to spend the night. The market offers a diverse range of items to purchase, from souvenirs to local foods and drinks, and even live animals like birds and rabbits. While some shops do accept cards, it's advisable to carry cash just in case. What truly stands out is the meticulous attention to cleanliness and maintenance. The Souk is always impeccably maintained, elevating the overall experience.

I just love the atmosphere of this place in the evening. It was very good. little crowd but those who love to try different middle eastern cuisine must visit this place. This is the oldest soul (Market) place in the heart of the doha. well connected by yellow and red line metro. One side they are building the skyscrapers and on the other hand they have kept their culture and heritage market to show the people they are proud off.

A great place to visit, lots of restaurants, most of them are very good. Great scenery(beautiful women). My favorite restaurant is Al Bandar, great staff and management and great food at a good value. Souvenir shops prices are too high, I wouldn’t shop there, but fun to see. Just about everything they sell is made in China, India…shop somewhere else, a lot cheaper. However it’s lots of fun to be there, great atmosphere. Very safe place, and clean, they clean the streets in the afternoon and and after closing. I am staying at the Park Hyatt (great hotel), within walking distance to the Souk. Overall, I think it’s best place in Doha. I resided at the Hyatt since March to present, and I go there at least 6 nights a week.

This Market in the old city center of the developed city of Doha provides a unique experience of the core of Qatari Culture. I enjoyed walking around seeing most of the hand made and cultural objects giving a sense of old history. Great place to visit in this developed country of Qatar. Will surely go once I get another chance.

A place that you must visit if you are in Qatar. Amazing traditional & beautiful architecture. Many shops to visit ( spices, gold, gift shops), and also many restaurants (Moroccan, Syrian, Iranian, etc) and coffee shops available with amazing views. The souk is also very clean. This experience could have been perfect if the prices in the shops were fixed, instead of negotiating with the merchants to get the right price. I highly recommend !

There are two exibition stalls from you can enjoy and purchase paintings and drawingss. The chandeliers are so beautiful that each of them itself is a masterpiece of art. This is a traditional market, sells garment, souvenirs, ornaments and everything that narrates the story and history of middle East. I must not forget, it also sells spices, grab some when here. The original building (At least) 100 years old was renovated in Traditional style. This entire place is located in dry river bed, now very little residuals can be found, very busy market but it caught fire in 2003 and then the crowd shifted more into shopping malls and buildings. From pets to flesh animals, Waqif offers everything with love.

It is an old Souq that is nicely renovated by keeping the heritage of the building . You can find many souvenirs and old authentic antiques and there are many restaurants and coffee shops located in the middle of Doha . You can find many tourists and the prices are very affordable compared to shopping malls .

The best marketplace in the middle east Every thing looks the ancient way. you can buy souvenirs and many goods and also enjoy food. You can find good products for a good price. During the evening is the best time to visit as the sun sets and the dusk starts. The sellers are very friendly. You can also plan for shopping and dining from different restaurants with the stunning looks. You can use the Doha metro to get their easily. A must visit location before you die

This is a Must visit place in Qatar where you can get anything from everything. Local shops , local foods , restaurants, camel rides , park nearby , kids zone & what not. It's a market for everyone. I loved the Art center & the art works presented inside there. Few artists were seen painting and sketching live - It was such a fascinating moment to see those beautiful paintings.

One of Doha's most interesting placs. The vendors are very friendly and usually speak English. I went in summer so everything was closed during the day and opened only at around 4pm, as it was unbearably hot before then. Definitely a good place to have a meal or buy souvenirs.

Beautiful place and has a nice seating area. Well connected with metro and public transportation. Road works happening near corniche may cause some slight discomfort for who wish to spend a calm evening.. plenty of shops to buy ethnic wears, heritage appliances, spices and to taste Arabic cuisines are available,.. slight bargaining skills to be required.. Kids will enjoy with some activities available like horse rides, cinema and play areas. Art gallery n museum are also available..

This is an iconic landmark of Qatar with a flavour of the old shopping feel. Most items are souvenirs if you are not from the region, but also visited by locals for non-brands options. I loved the vibe of the old market and the rustic design and feel. You can easily spend 2 hours shopping or enjoying a cup of coffee at the many outlets. Try some of the local chai and chapati as it completes the circle indeed. Accessible via metro and in walking distance to the museums , so you can plan your day easily.

We went for an evening snack and tea and to walk around the shops. This is the Old Market area. Souq translates to Market. The architecture resembles the old buildings and there’s quite a few tea/coffee shops and eateries. A nice place to go in the evening to have a tea and to shop around in the small shops selling various things from birds to clothes to hand-made items. Overall a pretty nice experience.

The Souq Waqif is a fascinating place to observe the culture of Qatar. Dining is also very affordable and interesting. Evenings are best to visit. We were sadly moved by the pet market, where puppies, cats, various birds, ducks, tortoises and bunnies are caged. The ducklings 🐥, tortoises and turtle’s specifically are overcrowded in small spaces. A turtle was held in a plastic container, unable to even turn around. We asked the store manager to place him in a larger tank, which he did. Two of the ducklings in one of the cages had died from being pushed up against the side of the cage. While the pets are taken care of, their cages kept clean and the cats and dogs kept inside in Air-conditioned shops, we believe that ducklings belong in water with their mothers, and turtles and tortoises belong in the wild. The various birds should also be reduced as they too are overcrowded in their cages. There are strict rules in Qatar for cruelty to dogs and cats, and there are animal welfare organizations like Paws. This gives one peace of mind. Overall, the Souq is a MUST to visit!

Great ride but the service is horrible. I bought a 24 hour tour for 180 QR. I start it with a night tour on Thursday that suppose to start at 7:00 PM. Because of other people were coming late the start was delayed until 7:35 PM and the top of the bus couldn't open because of some sort of mechanical problem. I am back Friday morning around 11:00 AM to complete my second part of the tour to be informed that the next bus will depart only at 12:30 pm and there will be 45 to 60 minutes between stops if you get off anywhere. When I bought my tickets they told me 20 to 30 minutes. It is a great site seeing tour but it is not hop on hop off. You will kill a lot of time between stops waiting for the next bus. I ended up asking them to refunded me for the second part of my trip and they did that after 30 min from when I arrived at Souq Waqif office.

DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING A PET. Not all of the advice from the vendors here about taking care of pets are true. For instance: One vendor offered me a goldfish in a 1 gallon fish bowl. Goldfish are meant to be kept in 20 gallons per goldfish. This would make the life of your pet terrible and will soon lead to death.

Something like mall for hunter birds. The architectural excellence and the detail of this venue takes us bck to the old days when things were not commercialized.

One of the premier local traditional markets, large space with many types of goods and items, including many hand made originals, from spices and carpets to pets and ship/dhow/boat models, daggers and souvenirs. Also lots of restaurants and boutique hotels. At different seasons during the year there are various festivals and other events. On my last visit in early December there was a flower festival. Nice place for family and friends to shop or just relax.

Souq waqif: This place gives you traditional vibes of Arabic culture. It's been purposely built old historically. Different nationalities can be seen there including Arabic people hanging out. Sometimes, there happens events like flower festival, Mehandi artists applying Mehandi etc. It's one of the oldest market where you can find many household items like spices, chocolates, threads, pets, saffron, containers, plastic items, Mehandi cone, bangles etc. It's busy on weekends (Thursday, Friday). There are restraunts of different cousins of different countries.

As many have said before this place is a must visit if you are going to Doha. There are many entrances to park your car in the basement area. Be sure to mark it otherwise on the way out you will spend time finding it. You can see shops from different cultures and cuisines. If you are going during summer time it's better to visit after 4 pm. After going through the market place you will be hungry and choose a place to eat according to the cuisine you like. There is a money exchange place too. Bring a passport without fail for transactions. Enjoy your time.

Very well preserved old market. The architecture is as it was in the olden times and it's mesmerizing. The lighting is also great. The prices are also reasonable. One thing I didn't like however is that they sell live birds in cages. There are birds whose wings have been clipped and cannot fly. They are out in the open. I think they should not support this animal cruelty. Other than that, great place to spend time and have a bite to eat.

Traditional, yet with modern flares. If you have a long layover in Doha, get a room close to the souq and spend your time exploring the shops and trying some delicious food at one of the many restaurants in the souq. Really close to the bay with the picture perfect shot of Doha city in the distance with the rows of dhows in the foreground.

Yes I've heard the horror stories about how expensive it is and how long you can wait for a bus. I used it for 3 days (the 48 hour ticket lasts for 4 days, the 24 hour one for 2 days - go figure but I'm not complaining). The staff were really friendly. Yes on Sunday they told me they only had 2 buses running. Hey, it's not a taxi service. If that's what you want they're cheap and plentiful go hail one down. I enjoyed the route it took. I had to wait a half hour for one bus so I went and grabbed a coffee - job done. At MIA I was longer in there than intended so had a walk along the Corniche and got to the next stop 10 minutes before the bus came. A bit of exercise in the sun and a quick read of my book under the shade of a palm tree. Why worry about the time?? I've knocked off 1 star as the commentary is a couple or 3 years out of date.

The service is good, location of the stops are excellent. Souq Waqif as a starting point, then around the city. There several stop at: Katara village (at the moment of traveling partly was closed for re-construction), at the the Pearl of Qatar and Villagio Mall. I chosen to drop off at the mall, spent few hours there and then with the same bus came back to Souf Waqif. If I could I would spend several hours in Katara and the Pearl, but in this case is better to start a journey in early morning as the bus operated till 5 p.m. Also went to night bus ride, it was quicker as day tour, were no stops and a good chance to have an understanding of lights of night Doha.

One of the few must- see spots in Doha, nice for walking around in a town that generally isn’t made for walking. Lots of cafes and restaurants and shops where you will need to haggle. I’ll correct people who say it’s old - I lived in Doha in the 1990s and the Souq was not there then!

(Translated by Google) Souq Waqif is a traditional market that is considered one of the most important tourist attractions in Doha. The market combines tradition and authenticity with modern urbanity, and is the most famous tourist and heritage landmark frequented by tourists and citizens. The market is famous for selling traditional artifacts and eating Arab, traditional and international food. Most of the places in Souq Waqif are open daily from 10am to 12pm and from 4pm to 10pm. The market is considered one of the most vibrant places in Doha and includes an increasing number of restaurants serving traditional Qatari food and various Middle Eastern cuisines. There are many cafés and traditional restaurants that are open until late (some of them open 24 hours). The restaurants serve delicious local food in addition to the traditional shisha or hookah, as well as periodic performances of folk dances and music, especially in large celebrations, which were unparalleled success, as they were impressive and ahead of their time at the time, as intellectuals and artists likened them to being superior to what is shown in Las Vegas, Notre Dame de Paris and the Artists’ Quarter And in Vienna and Dubai. Although this is a newly built market it represents the old arabic architecture with the typical narrow streets. There are many colorful small shops selling local crafts goods to explore.

A very nice place to hangout with either friends or family. Don't worry about taking kids along as they are gonna love the place so much and the architecture there is spectacular. Feels like the buildings there tells us the tales of qatar history. There are a lot of different animals ,birds, fishes etc to be sold and also a pet care clinic is present inside the souq. Usually the place is busy other than the day time.

The only reason to give this place a 4star is because it's not very big for an art centre... but believe me, when you look at the paintings you might just get so deeply engrossed, you may never want to leave.... there is a security guard, it's a clean and well maintained space, and again the paintings will not let you go! Do visit, and Patronize too❤

A must visit when you come to Doha as many of traditional businesses are still around catering to locals selling things in bulk or in a retail setting. You see a place frozen in time carrying the traditions and practices from hundreds of years ago preserved in place. There are now more shops and restaurants catered to tourists but it's still a great place to visit.

Very authentic market in the old town of Doha. It comes to life after dusk as folk come out to shop and to dine out in the evening air. The smell of spices and perfumes fills the air. There is a mix of expensive restaurants and more moderately priced ones from which to choose. The bird souk is worth visiting to browse if you need a turkey In the square around the souk, balloon vendors and crepe makers ply their trade.

  • 5/5 shiju v. 5 months ago on Google
The Souk is truly exceptional.

Absolutely outstanding Souk, completely fascinating, very interesting and I can't imagine anything that you cannot find here. There are loads of zones for different types of shopping, the Falcon Hospital and shop are near the Bird Souk and the taxi rank. Awesome market area, and the top thing to see in Doha! It’s relatively big and there are all sort of passageways that you can get almost-lost in. It’s best in the evenings when there are tons of people out. Even if it’s not the most historic souq in the world, it’s still nice. And quite clean! If you can stay in a hotel in this area, I recommend doing so.

  • 4/5 Mário N. 2 months ago on Google New
Magnificent place! Beautiful architecture, lots of products, souvenirs and local experiences. Really felt a bit of the local culture by adventuring inside the alleys. One might be annoyed by the locals interacting in an attempt to sell something, but you shouldn’t be so picky about it, just go with the flow. What really made me sad was the animals experiences offered: they offer you to take a shot with a Falcon but they treat the animal very poorly. Same with the camel.
