Located next to Souq Waqif, the Falcon Souq is definitely a place to visit. I went there in the morning at around 0800 and it was pleasantly quiet and an excellent time to stroll around and take pictures. Most of the shops allowed me to go inside to look at the falcons and to take pictures. I also visited the Falcon hospital - apparently the only dedicated falcon hospital in the world. The market itself has an interesting architecture / building style. There are some beautiful horses too and the view of Doha skyline, the water and Dhows (traditional boats) just outside the Souq is stunning.

Very nice place that represents the soul of doha with the artistic shops selling art pieces and paintings the place makes you feel a different way with a very good environment as air conditioning here is magnificent, it very quiet place. I asked for some items prices that seemed reasonable for the things shown in a touristic place like souq waqif. I highly recommend this place even for just watching and walking.

Nice to watch the birds and the interactions between potential buyers and sellers. Very atmospheric and exotic for someone not from the Middle East.

Occupying an entire block just next to the large Souk Wafiq, this collection of small shops all setup pretty much the same, is worth a short visit ... there's probably 40 odd shops in the block and some spill over ones in the surrounds...you can walk around the block and see into the shops through the windows...it was June and about half the shops were empty, still plenty to see... all are pretty much the same so we just picked one at random to go into.... most have a large sandpit occupying the centre of the shop with wood stumps evenly space upon which the falcons are perched... there are a wide variety of falcons in terms of size and colours (and presumably hunting ability).... the shopowners are pretty cool about visitors and explain falconry and it's importance to Qatari culture... the owners let us hold a falcon using forearm guards for photos... pretty nice of them... was free as long as you showed genuine interest in learning about the practice... possibly not a great place in you are an avid animal lover BUT the birds do look well cared for.. maybe naive? .. the rest of the shop usually has all manner of falconry accessories and leatherworks, which is interesting as well... only requires less than an hour of your time..

If you've never been to a falcon store before and are in Doha then go here. They have a good selection of falcons and the guy, Shamsher is very helpful. The prices range between 1,000 QR to 40,000. They have most of the accessories you would need. The white falcon seemed rare so I assume that's the reason why it is so expensive. We wore the glove and had one sit on the hand. There are some beginner techniques to quickly figure out how to hold the falcon steady. This shop is also part of the main souk and is located next to the falcon hospital.

The Falcon Souq, which is close to the Souq Waqif, is an interesting look into the sport of falconry, with a dozen or so shops that sell the birds and related paraphernalia, such as hoods, stands, gloves, leashes, and the like. The falcons can sell for $600 to as much as $100,000, depending upon the skill of a particular bird. There's even a falcon hospital on the grounds of the souq. Falcons are generally kept hooded to keep them calm until their handlers wish to put them into "hunting mode." It was fascinating and a bit unnerving to be so close to these raptors. Note that there is a "bird market" within the Souq Waqif. That market is NOT the falcon market, but specializes in other sort of birds as pets, e.g., parrots, pigeons, parakeets, and the like. The falcon market is nearby, so just ask one of the shopkeepers how to get to the falcon shops.

Falcon Souq For a glimpse of Qatari heritage, don't miss the Falcon Souq. You only have to see the scale of the market, afforded its own traditional arcaded building off Souq Waqif, to understand the place of falconry in Qatari society. Evenings are the best time to come, especially on Thursday, when you can watch customers examining the birds – most of them hooded in black leather, and perched on posts or railings – and discussing the finer points of falconry with the shopkeepers.

Where else can you go and see hundreds of majestic falcons tied up with hoods over their heads? Do you like to see wildlife captive for the rest of their lives for the amusement of their owners? How many of these hundreds of captives birds live their life in this souq and are never sold to see the sunlight? It is like fancy necklaces sitting in the gold souq never sold and these are live beings. I get that this is a regional sport/hobby but over a dozen shops each with a couple dozen birds just siting on perches unable to even see? Not our style and hope these people get a little more enlightened and modern.

Waqif Falcon Market is located on the western side of Souq Waqif. It is a destination for hunters and falcon enthusiasts. It includes a large number of shops selling falcons and their tools, as well as a number of shops specialized in selling marine fishing tools. In the market there is a falcon hospital that includes many modern medical devices to treat falcons. The market also includes a falconry council in which everyone interested in hunting meets, and an annual auction is held in the Waqif Falconry Market to sell falcons, and there are also conditions for selling falcons that must be followed between the seller And the buyer, the buyer examines the bird before buying it to ensure that it is free from diseases and injuries, such as breakage or Pneumonia or liver enlargement, as for simple diseases such as worms and their types, they do not affect the sale process and purchase.

Very interesting. When we got there, it was possible to take pictures with various birds, but you had to pay 5 riyals for each picture. The bird is also immobile, like a statue. When we touched it, I was shocked to discover that it was a genuine bird even though we had assumed it was simply a decoration.

Eye-opening visit to this falcon souq to see this hunter bird up close and learn about the falconry tradition in Qatar. We went there at hot midday in summer so the place was rather ‘sleepy’, including the birds! Better to visit in the cool of the night.

Falcon Souq is near Souq Waqif. Falcons and other trained birds are available here. Other equipment relating to biird is also sold here. The shop owners are well behaved and coooerative. They allow you to take photographs with the falcons. Falconery is a national pastime here. The airlines allow you to take the birds with you if you happen to be travelling in First Class.

You may see shopkeepers crafting leather falcon helmets or enjoying tea on the cushioned benches at each store. Next door to the Falcon Souq is the Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital – if you stop by when things are quiet and ask nicely, the staff are usually pleased to show visitors around.

As the name suggests, this area is dedicated to the sale and care of these amazingly beautiful birds. There’s even a hospital for the birds. Very tidy and I’m sure these birds are well looked after. Maybe there is, but it would be nice if short presentations and demos on falconry are done throughout the day, which I’m sure visitors would be happy to pay for. The shops seem ok though for photos to be taken by the curious. Fascinating.
