Visitors can walk through this sculpture, comprised of seven steel plates โ€“ a number with special spiritual significance in Qatari and Islamic culture โ€“ and gaze up to the sky from inside. The first of two installations by celebrated artist Richard Serra to be commissioned by the Qatar Museums Authority, the 24m-high artwork stands proudly at the end of the Museum of Islamic Art Park, looking out to the Gulf and the bright lights of the Doha skyline beyond.

To be honest, the sculpture service was good, but the metal was too salty. Also, it was hard to reach the last floor because itโ€™s 24 meters long.

Fantastic! Isolated and unique, it seems rooted to the area as if it had been there forever. Well worth the drive! We went in April. I would like to visit it in shimmering heat, in windy, dusty conditions, in the occasional rains and any other time! This is for the Richard Serra โ€œEast-West / West-Eastโ€ smart work in the desert!

Huge sculpture designed by Richard Serra and it's called the The 7 Sculpture. Located in a prime location to see the sunset over Doha skylines plus having great park next to it. Enjoy the atmosphere

A sculpture at the end of the corniche facing the season shore. Nothing much information was given about the sculpture not any activity. A quiet place to spend time with friends and family with the breeze from the sea

This is a 80- foot tall sculpture made out of 7 steel plates by an American artist Richard Serra. The sculpture designed is significantly inspired from importance of the spiritual number 7 in Arabic. The artwork has a perfect sync with the Islamic Art Museum theme. The sculptureโ€™s steel slabs are designed to be naturally bronzed by the elements. Now the color of slabs are in uniform dark shade via a process of oxidation due to the corrosive salt water spray from the sea.

A Steel Heptagon - Richard Serra's "7" at MIA Park Pier, Doha Nestled on the picturesque MIA Park Pier in Doha, Qatar, Richard Serra's "7" sculpture is a breathtaking testament to the harmonious interplay of art, nature, and space. This monumental installation commands attention, its sinuous steel forms rising majestically against the backdrop of the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf. Approaching "7," one is immediately struck by its monumental scale and commanding presence. The sculptural forms, fashioned from weathered steel, exude a sense of timeless strength and endurance. The play of light and shadow on the textured surface creates an ever-changing visual spectacle, adding an element of dynamism to the static structure. Walking amidst the towering heptagon, there's an immersive quality to the experience. The proportions are deliberately disorienting, encouraging visitors to navigate the space with heightened awareness and a sense of wonder. It's a dialogue between observer and artwork, inviting introspection and exploration. What sets "7" apart is its ability to evoke a myriad of emotions and interpretations. From one angle, it exudes an imposing and almost monolithic presence, while from another, it reveals a graceful, almost dance-like rhythm. This duality invites contemplation, encouraging viewers to engage with the piece on a deeply personal level. The tactile quality of the weathered steel is integral to the experience. Running one's hand along its surface, feeling the texture and temperature, adds a visceral dimension to the encounter. It's a tactile dialogue between artist, material, and observer, underscoring the raw, elemental nature of Serra's work. The sculpture's symbiotic relationship with its surroundings is awe-inspiring. Framed by the natural elements, "7" engages in a dynamic conversation with its environment. The play of light, the shifting colors of the sky, and the serene waters of the Gulf serve as a living canvas for Serra's creation. In conclusion, Richard Serra's "7" at MIA Park Pier in Doha, Qatar, is a masterstroke of contemporary sculpture. It's a symphony of form and space that invites viewers to reevaluate their connection with the physical world. Its monumental presence, combined with the nuanced interplay with light, texture, and environment, creates an unforgettable experience that resonates long after the visit. This sculpture stands as a testament to Serra's visionary talent and his ability to provoke thought and emotion through the language of form.

In Islamic culture, the number seven has spiritual significance. Richard Serra pays homage to this in this sculpture โ€“ constructed from seven steel plates.
