The hawksbill's appearance is similar to that of other marine turtles. In general, it has a flattened body shape, a protective carapace, and flipper-like limbs, adapted for swimming in the open ocean. E. imbricata is easily distinguished from other sea turtles by its sharp, curving beak with prominent tomium, and the saw-like appearance of its shell margins. Hawksbill shells slightly change colors, depending on water temperature. While this turtle lives part of its life in the open ocean, it spends more time in shallow lagoons and coral reefs. The World Conservation Union, primarily as a result of Human fishing practices, classifies E. imbricata as critically endangered. Hawksbill shells were the primary source of tortoiseshell material used for decorative purposes. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species outlaws the capture and trade of hawksbill sea turtles and products derived from them.

About the place : Nestled away 80-90km from Doha is this wonderful place reaching into the sea. It is one big jacuzzi where you can walk into the sea, neck deep without any worry of waves. The sea is as tranquil as noise cancelled Sony headphones ๐Ÿ˜‰ How to get there : From doha you would typically take the Al shamal road until an exit would point you to Fuwairit. The roads are brilliantly smooth until the town/village (which did bear a deserted look). From the town /village until the actual beach, is a slight drive on the sands. Quite tricky if you don't have the right wheels. Things to do : Fishing Swimming Simply pitch camp looking at the sea Best time for visit : October to December Jan to Feb, water is expectedly very cold but really awesome time for a swim March to April/May - depends but is still a great time to be here

Nice Beach to relax, barbeque and enjoy, dress moderately and don't drink alcoholic beverages. Don't forget to take everything you need because no shops available nearby(nearest fuel pump station around 10 km). Beach(inside sea when you bath) full of small sharp stones, so take care of your foot. Get timber to fire if you're going(November to March) To protect Turtle nestling the beach will be not accessible and blocked by Qatar officials from April 1 to August 1(may be change in number of days). Please don't loiter the beautiful beach, collect all your waste, unburned wood, beach furnitures and spilled food back to land.

Very serene place. Clear waters, white sands , lots of shells for the tiny tots to collect but no nearby washrooms.

The mating process for Hawksbill turtles takes place every two years and the nesting process begins in late March or early April, with the females leaving the sea and looking for a suitable nesting ground. it's learned that Fuwairit remains to be the most favorite breeding spot in Qatar. And the reason behind this is probably the nature of the place, and the area is also quiet as it's away from buildings and camping sites. Besides being quiet, Fuwairit beachโ€™s atmosphere, as well as soft sand, make it a perfect place for nesting where turtles can dig easily. According to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), Fuwairit is closed from April every year to prepare for the nesting season, aimed at protecting the turtles and their eggs. you can be part of this magical moment and watch how these little turtles make their journey to the world! Although the Fuwairit beach is closed during nesting season to protect turtles and eggs, however, a portion of the beach is open during the hatching season for the public to witness the process at night. To facilitate the visit, Qatar Museum is organising visits to the nesting ground for the entire month of July & August.

It's an amazing natural beach for turtle nesting. The beach is secured and maintained by the conservation. Crystal clear water and clean beach with white sand. Perfect for breeding. A perfect eco system to ocean life cycle.
