I took out a “whole of life” life insurance policy on myself in 1990 with Prudential. It was for a value of €100k index linked, to be paid to my spouse after my death. I paid my monthly fee for the 30 years. The monthly payments increased to €149 and the cover increased to €130k+. I had an Irish life agent call to my house c. 10 years ago, who assured me that my fund was safe and would never be reduced. In 2018 Irish life had a “review” of my policy and informed me that my life cover amount was reduced to €50k. I kept paying the €149 monthly payments. In 2019 they informed me that my fund had ran out and that my policy ended. When I asked them about the assurance their agent gave me, their answer was that he no longer worked for the company. I am now left with no life cover for my spouse at 64 years to cover funeral costs etc. The agent they sent out to me told me there was nothing I can about an appeal and that many other people also affected rang Joe Duffy to no avail. Please please do not let this unscrupulous company do the same to you. I would STRONGLY recommend you do not use this company !!!

Avoid at all costs...... Complete cowboys. I have insurance with Irish Life and had surgery a couple of months ago. I rang Irish Life prior to the procedure the assured me I was covered under my insurance to proceed. Now the bill is due they are refusing to pay. After they told me to proceed. I have cancelled my policy with them and would strongly urge any one to avoid joining them.

Terrible customer service. I tested positive for covid and called the "digital" doctor line at 4pm, they gave me an appointment for 10.20pm, doctor didn't call so I called back and they could not even find my booking! Even asked me if I called Irish life! Said to call back in half an hour, eventually an absolutely not interested doctor called to tell me to take paracetamol...

While on paper what they cover looks good and prices seem reasonable, whenever you submit a claim to them they are difficult about EVERYTHING. Anything that happens abroad, they make a fuss about. Any treatment you need to get, there's a hundred technical conditions that the average consumer doesn't even understand and if anything doesn't match they will just not cover you. Claiming benefits that are clearly in the policy, they randomly get rejected without any explanation as to why and all you can do is try to re-submit the same thing and hope they're in a better mood this time. Want to claim a private prescription? Better make sure it didn't just get sent off from the GP directly to the pharmacy as usually happens nowadays, because you've apparently just given them yet another reason not to cover anything. I had VHI before, and while technically they provide less cover, they are so much easier and more pleasant to deal with, and their app is a million times better! With Irish Life Health, on the other hand, I am very far from impressed.

Where do I start with this. Had to go to A&E at Hermitage on New Years eve, was told on two separate occasions on the day by Irish Life that I was covered. Paid in full on the day & then received a small refund from Irish life a few weeks later. Then a few weeks later we are contacted & told no you where not covered & we want the refund that we gave you back. Or actually the want us to pay the Hermitage the money back. Sent an email asking how you can tell someone they are covered, give them a refund & then want the money back, got a reply email which as usual with Health Insurance it just confused me totally. What an absolute farce of a situation. Never ever going to take out health insurance with this company again. Should be a zero star option.

Over the past six months I had to pay over €1000 for health consultations. Luckily, I'm covered for 'consultant benefit' on my plan but not GP visits. However, as the vast majority of health consultants in Ireland are also registered as GPs, Irish Life refuse to pay, although they have GP visits and consultations as separate benefits (when really they're not). In short, Irish Life have created a loophole in their policy. I would strongly advise anyone to refrain from getting cover with Irish Life and head elsewhere as they have shocking customer service and find loopholes to refuse to payout.

We have been with Irish Life Health the last 3 years and I have to say it has been the best health insurer we have dealt with in Ireland so far (we have been with 2 other major ones before). I find I get through to them very quickly on the phone, so far the agents have ALL been very polite and helpful, and claiming online has been very straight forward and I rarely had an issue even with complicated receipts. We went through a very tough time health wise 2 years ago and the customer service agents went above and beyond to help us, easing the financial pressure we had at the time. I am really surprised at the overall rating here on google maps and hope that people will still consider ILH as their insurer, as they have been great for us.

This company is simply terrible. I pay them 150 euros/ month for my insurance and all my claims are getting rejected. They don’t explain the reasons and they don’t even let me know they reject my claims. They simply remove the claims submitted. Is this normal? Have been the worst experience

Very good. Been with them through work for a few years, easy an anything to claim online. Just called their helpline as I'm leaving the employer and wanted info on how to move the insurance and what not. Great phone manners by the Shane and Sinead, quick to pick up the phone and very informative.

They always find an excuse to not fulfill their part. There’s always ‘something’ to prevent them paying your benefits. Inconsistent coverage. Some people with exactly the same policy will get coverage for some procedures and treatments while others won’t, even if it’s with the same practitioner. Customer service is extremely slow and useless. Feedback channels are also useless and they don’t really care. If you’re choosing a health insurance provider, avoid at all costs.

Awful customer service, three people telling me three different things. Have a personal injury policy and it took a week for them to send me a form by post as they don't send them via email. I sent it back via email as they asked and two weeks later still no update or reply, 20 working days to decide on a claim. Its like they have no staff. Will 100% be cancelling my policy, absolutely horrendous customer service in this day and age. Avoid the company at all costs.

Avoid. Exceptionally poor coverage. I've changed employers and Irish life health are their health insurance provider. Orthodontics treatment for my daughter costing 3000, refund was 60 euro, despite having an ortho add-on applied. Xray wasn't covered for other child's broken leg, previous year this was covered by other provider. ongoing Peadiatric physiotherapist also not covered as the specific physio wasn't on their list. Covered by other insurer as standard. No peadiatric physio in my county was on their list. My company pays huge amount, and I pay BIK for it. Not happy with coverage, the app, or the service on phone.

This insurance is totally useless, minor injures clinic which they have contracts can't do much even ultra sounds which is a joke in today world pay x amount of money and wait a week or more for a scan. MRI also 3+weeks waiting period so for what do i need private insurance if the waiting period for private insurance is longer then for public visit. In general Irish health system with going to GP to get referral letter for any work (most of them are idiots after school with outdated knowledge) is a joke and without you will not be refunded anything from insurance...

Such a bad and poor service. I have been waiting for 4 weeks for a pre-approved overseas surgery claimed and got no response. They just don’t want to pay your money back! No one answers my emails. I call and the agents say they will solve the issue but they don’t. What a terrible service. I’m just with them as I get it from my employer but I had VHI before and they are way better. Don’t waste your time with Irish Life.

What is the point of offering a Digital Doctor if the only appointment you will get is a day and a half away. That's twice now this has happened in the two years I have been using their service. I would think what happens is customers take the appointment even though it is a day and a half away then cancel it if they manage to get an appointment with their own GP or Caredoc just like I did. So the service is pretty much non existent

Moved to Irish Life from laya as new employer uses Irish Life. What an awful company to deal with, wasted over 1.5 hours total on the phone trying to claim what I'm entitled too and nothing but hassle and hoops to jump through. They won't pass a manager or supervisor to help. I was also asked twice to email in my claim as the procedure was not showing on the portal only to be advised by someone else they don't accept emails. Gonna give all my feedback in the hopes my company moves away from Irish life.

I would not recommend Irish Life Health for medical insurance needs. Spirit of the policy document and coverage is not followed and will always find ways with the language or words from the doctor report to deny claims. General definitions and their own definitions wary.

I got an email today advising me that I now have access to 18 minor injury clinics, the closest is aprox. 4 hour round trip from my house. No services in Donegal Leitrim or Sligo! Really not that minor how far behind your customers in these areas are in relation to accessing services. Poor show lads!

I see a few negative reviews on Google for Irish Life Health but since joining them 2 years ago, they have been exceptional and a pleasure to deal with. Good value plans with excellent support and a great online platform. Submitting claims is also straightforward and when I had issues with any claims, the customer service resolved the issue without any delay. Highly recommend Irish Life to anyone.

I was advised on the phone by Irish Life that I was covered under my policy after providing them with a procedure code for a procedure. After the procedure they reversed and said it was not covered under the policy, I am lucky to have a copy of the phone record as they tried to avoid paying out. Avoid these at all possible costs.

I don't leave many reviews on things, but perhaps I hope this serves as a warning to those who are considering paying for their services here (I get the full cover through work) - please choose VHI or any other service for the sake of your sanity. Since they launched their "new app" NOTHING works, I have piles of receipts I need to submit which I'm unable to cause the app never loads. Whenever I try to obtain support on their website they always have a team training which is apparently a good enough reason to simply shut down the support function for their paying customers. Bottom line - just don't... any other provider is better. I know they don't care about this cause they have their contracts with companies which are advantageous to those corporations so they won't starve or go down as a business, but if you're a private insurance payer, run in any other direction.

I've never had any issues with Irish life health up to now. All my claims were dealt with rapidly and with complete ease. I'm not sure what's going on with all the bad reviews. Their Phone lines can be weird. They seem to be TOTALLY DOWN today, but their email support is good enough. I would recommend comparing this companies plan with the other providers in Ireland.

Don't invest with them. After 16 years they give you what you put in. Also they charge you 1.65% for losing your money. Customer service is rubbish and a nightmare to get your money out. They are totally obstructive and put every obstacle in your way. Avoid. Paddy power IS a better BET.

Been with Irish life for 2,3 years now, usually I don't claim anything except general health screening that I'm doing abroad as Ireland doesn't offer such treatment where you can just walk in and they will check you from heah to toes with just one visit ( all takes about 2,3 hours). It's the quickest way to ensure you are healthy as here you would wait sometime for almost a year to do a single testing. I've been claiming this each year with no issues but this year it was declined due to not sufficient I formations on the invoice. I've sourced from the clinic detailed ivoce, declined again for same reason, I've called and asked explanation why was it declined, then I've got the answer that I have to choose the practitioner while making claim, first of all on this claim there is no field to choose it, secondly all details are presented on the invoice as the clinic is an international and EU registered clinic. I'm paying higher cover and for return got absolutely nothing. Needed to do further examination after a general check and couldn't get an appointment not even in a private clinic even with having the insurance covers it for 10 weeks and the treatment was needed asap due to a high risk of the condition getting worse. So absolutely worthless to have the cover..can't wait to finish with this year policy as they want to charge me 150 euros if I want to cancel it straight away. This company doesn't even get the guts to reaponse to any of Google reviews. Avoid if you can.

I recently gave birth to a baby girl and tried to add her to my policy online... The system didnt work! However I rang the customer line and with no wait at all, Dane picked Up the phone and added her to my policy reassuring to me that she is covered under my plan for free until my policy renewal! He was very helpful! Thanks Dane!

Tried to claim but was refused, they said that medical care that has not been authorised and arranged by them is not covered, they must expect you to wait for them to arrange an operation a doctor says you should have. Don't waste your money they use any excuse not to pay out.

My overseas out-patient and in-patient claims were declined due to incomplete receipts. I then resubmitted my claims with complete supporting documents and they were declined again due to different reasons! MRI scan was declined due to non approved center. Surgery was declined as Benefit not converged. Although my policy clearly stated that there is overseas out-patient and in-patient coverage. If it's overseas how could the MRI scan even be done in an approved center?

Used my insurance cover for my son who was admitted to hospital while abroad on holidays. Everyone on the phone was so helpful & understanding. There was a couple of spelling mistakes and delays getting approval etc but overall I was very happy with the service and so grateful to have it in that moment.

Terrible service, not user friendly at all and never covers anything useful despite paying for a premium package. The lack of assistance and transparency is something I've experienced with other IL services aswell. Three years I've been paying health insurance for nothing to these guys. This year when I've actually needed it I've had to fork out a small fortune from my own pocket in medical bills because their coverage is so poor. There won't be a fourth year. Avoid

I am quite surprised by a low average score. I had been with Irish Life's main competitor before and should say that with IL all my claims are usually dealt with with in no time, no issues at all. 5 stars so far. Keep it up!

Irish Life Health Customer since 2016, baby born in March 2022 (over 10 months ago). They still haven’t paid my hospital bill (Holles Street) but I’ve been reassured multiple times it’ll be processed asap. Debt collectors are now looking to bring me to court. I have no words, try to stay away from Irish Life Health if you can.

Not sure where to start on how bad my experience has been with this company. Irish life confirmed a policy was in place, when no direct debit came out I contacted them only to find that no cover was in place. On the 4th attempt they told me that everything had been resolved. Irish Life then, took an unauthorised payment from my account, from a cancelled policy. It was confirmed that the refund would take 4 - 7 working days. After 7 working days there was no refund. I rang again and was told a refund would take 15 working days. Trust is gone. I believe staff are poorly trained and managed. Although polite there is no consistency in the level of service. It has taken so much effort to resolve a very simple matter which after 6 weeks remains unresolved.

After changing my policy over a week ago, they still took out the previous higher amount from my account. Now they tell me it will take 10 days to refund. I'm unemployed, every penny counts. Very dissatisfied.
