Pros: Nice location to visit from Melbourne CBD, big and fairly clean facilities, friendly and dedicated staffs. Cons: extremely poor communication. _ I visited the Alfred last week (ER) and this week for a medical research. I was beyond shock how this hospital has friendly and dedicated staffs, yet full of miscommunication that can lead to a major medical accident. At this point, I doubt whether there's a system to follow up communication, check signed paper under a patient's profile, because I had to full out the same information more than 3 times in 2 visits. For example, 1. I filled out all requested information at the reception. However, my address was written as "oversea" on my discharge letter even when I provided my address in Melbourne. Then later I received a text message to provide the same info I filled out at the reception... 2. I was also about to participate in a medical research, which I only consented to doing an MRI. When I visited the hospital yesterday, they were going to pull out my blood instead of doing an MRI because there was a miscommunication/ no communication among doctors. However, the doctor I met yesterday was gaslighting and trying to reason the miscommunication on me based on my situation that could've resulted a brain injury. However, I got lucky. My brain was totally fine. 3. The hospital required me to fill out the same documents and surveys online and offline. I wasn't sure what was the point of requiring prerequisite if i have to do the same thing twice. Also, no once required and checked QR check-in when I entered the hospital 🤷 I hope the Alfred invests in a better communication tool and training for its employees. I hope my experience is a rare case.

The best Hospital in Australia! (See Newsweek article best hospitals 2022) I am grateful for the speedy diagnosis of a rare condition in the ER. Quickly, the appropriate treatment was started on the same day. You are in good hands here... I signed up for the online patient portal. No miss-communication or missed appointments here.

Very lazy and neglectful staff. Very poor care to elderly patients. Doctor tried to talk me into "euthanasing" my Mum on the weekend. I refused so they have just been neglecting her. Shame on Dr Han!

Such an amazing, accommodating, caring place. With such amazing people. I was here for 7 weeks after my motorbike accident. 2 in icu. 5 on the trauma ward. They arranged for my dog to come and see me in the courtyard. That's how much they care. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I came in to emergency for an asthma attack when it didnt get better after using my inhaler and using my asthma plan. I was seen promptly had scans and medicine. I was a bit upset though when I could hear the nurses laughing and talking about me though the glass door of my room and how dramatic I had been to come into hospital. I understand they are all busy and they have very sick patients. But it was a scary experince for me and I was following medical advice. This will make me think twice coming to hospital again. Especially the Alfred.

Went in to emergency department at 6am left at 6pm for a severe spinal injury with numbness in my left arm.. they told me I would get my MRI at 2pm.. cut to 5pm we ask when we will get the MRI only to be told the machine is closed at 5pm.. left us in hospital for 12 hours with no testing or medication. Very poor effort would NOT recommend. Our father also waited three days for a gall bladder stoje removal.

I came into Alfred ED on a Saturday with appendicitis symptoms. It turned out I did infact have appendicitis. I would like to thank every single staff member I came into contact with. I was so impressed with the level or care I received, the professionalism of everybody and was taken away by how caring and friendly all of the staff members were. I was operated on Sunday at 2pm and released on Monday around 11am. The entire process was seamless, I can't fault anything. I feel privileged to live in such a great country that offers this amazing service free of charge. The system worked so well in my instance and I thank you all so very much for making my short stay so comfortable. Keep up the great work team. Forever grateful

Just out of an unplanned visit to the The Alfred after smashing my big toe and must say they were great. I have to give a special shout out to Sheridan and Shirley in the fast track area that made my brief stay there pretty bearable! so thank you for all the help.

I went to the ED as I needed medication within 72 hours of exposure. I was in two minds about getting treatment and 66 hours post exposure I decided to present. Staff were friendly and I was in line for the Fast Track Unit. It was very slow, understaffed and reminded me of the 1960’s 70’s hospital back wards! Unfortunately I experienced poor patient care that was lacking in simple communication and very unprofessional So much time and money wasted on something that could have been Fast Tracked.

Dad was there for over a week getting so called tests done etc. not 1 doc rang us or returned my calls to let us know anything. I had to go in & wait for someone to come speak to us. They discharged him when he wasn’t eating well. Haven’t received any call regarding his treatment. Taken him to a different hospital & in the 2 days he has been there I have had a call everyday explaining what they want to do etc. GET IT TOGETHER ALFRED. Your system is broke.

Ignore the bad reviews…. Cannot commend the entire team (nurses, physios, OTs, surgeons and doctors for saving my life and ability to walk again, and even down to orderlies, food staff, and receptionists etc) for their kindness, professionalism and compassion to me when I ended up here for 5 weeks due to a bad car accident. Everyone deserves a pay rise!! I look forward to my check up appointments as they provide me with great feedback to help me progress. Keep up the incredible work, there are many of us who appreciate you insurmountably!

I’m trying to organise Professor Kenneth Thomson so help with my brothers pancreatic cancer and you were horrible! Shame on you. You couldn’t even direct the call to his office, you didn’t even know if he worked there! Can someone from management please contact me asap as I need to get through to Professor Kenneth Thomson.

After spending 4 days in and out at the Sandringham hospital who had trouble diagnosing my issue, within 45 minutes of meeting the Urology team at the Alfred I was given a diagnosis and same day surgery with my own private room overlooking the city. Every single staff member I came across being the doctors, nurses and even the people wheeling me to my room post surgery were friendly, welcoming and reassuring! Thank you all for your fabulous work!

Absolutely terrible phone service. I'm in NSW trying to check on the condition of my sister after her serious operation. If you can get through to the switchboard and get put through to the ward the phone will just ring out. The last time I got through to the switchboard I was told the nurses arn't there to answer phones ??

Came into Emergency after having heart problems. The team quickly, professionally and kindly evaluated and got me discharged. Each person I interacted with, from front-desk clark, to Nurse, Orderly, X-Ray technician and Doctor, was top notch, referred to by name and was able to treat me with kindness and humanity - despite all the restrictions imposed by COVID-19. Thank you so much, Alfred team.

The care was great and the best part of the whole experience as an inpatient was the food. I was not disappointed once during two separate 8 day admissions with the quality, heat, presentation and taste of the food. Kudos to the catering department for your high quality work. It is stunning!

I feel so lucky that this is my local hospital. Don’t get me wrong - public health is suffering right now and funding, more staff and better treatment of staff is needed. But this 5 star review goes to the nurses, doctors and patient service assistants - you guys are wonderful people. I came here when I broke my arm, have had family here over the years for various reasons too. All the staff are incredibly knowledgeable, skilled and hard-working. They’re working in a broken public health system AND they’re supporting people at their most vulnerable. Hats off to you guys, you’re the best of everyone.

Very bad hospital. If the patient is overseas visitor, I don't recommend you. As I paid too much which is too costly as compared to private hospital, more than double. For an Echo $850 which is more than when I did in private clinic or hospital. Even the 5 min appointment $350. I had bad experience with them. Additionally, the emergency staff told me they are getting my signature on the claim form, but in actual ther are not and I received the invoice of $580 for an Emergency. Nobody informed me before that I need to pay. As they told me they are going to send it to my Health Insurance, the actual is the above story. Total $3000 for an year.

I have been a patient of the Alfred for 4.5 years. During those years my health has withered progressively, even though I have been very active in my recovery. The problem is their professionals from the ID clinic are extremely mediocre. They don't even understand the language being used in all the research from their specific field. They are not using therapies used around the world nor even will accept recreating them even if they have a foreign country doctor's prescription for it. Nor they even provide with an alternative to help cope. When I have gone to the ER they don't do anything about my case and send me back saying that I'm an outpatient and should be seen as such because my case is chronic. But the team that should do that doesn't do anything either. I am just volleyballed by them. The dental team send me somewhere else who never finished my treatment. The gastrointestinal team suggested hypnotherapy, even though I have been on vagus nerve stimulation and it doesn't help. So clearly they don't understand even the science behind the process to suggest that when I was already doing something that does the same, but better. The social workers NEVER pick up the phone, nor they are able to help with ANYTHING. They are just simply useless. I trusted them when they took my case over and It's frankly appalling and preposterous to see such an institution be mediocre from every possible angle. When I tell the story to my doctor friends from around the world, they laugh at the level of mediocrity. Some of the doctors I know are from third world countries that have better Doctors and a better system. Now... I wonder... Is this an Australian thing? Or is it just the Alfred? Will have to wait and see.

The worst hospital ever!! Waited 39 mins to get transferred to the ward my husband was released from yesterday and was given no discharge papers for after care. He coughed up blood that was red not brown.. so rang the hospital and no one picked up from the ward he was on.. Level 5 East.. I understand they are busy, however someone should be manning the phones. Absolute disgrace.

EVERYONE HERE DESERVES A RAISE!!! Ive had the misfortune of needing to attend the emergency room quite a few times, both for myself and for friends - but the fact that Ive had to go aside, Ive never had a bad experience - I fully admire everyone from the moment Ive walked in to the moment i have left - I'm sorry you guys put up with some real horror stories, from the fake whingers that are on the ground crying, screaming yet 2 minutes later are having a smoke out the front like they are at their local, through to the trauma you must see and care for - You are all Heroes and i hope you all receive the care and attention that you provide by your employers and that government will start treating you like the assets to Victoria that you are.

Also within 2 hours had been checked in, x-rays done, blood tests done, medication given etc. And was then moved to a proper bed (and a tv to watch the cricket). Made the experience as positive as possible for a hospital visit. Thank you again to all the amazing staff for your great care. Wade

I’m a visitor to Melbourne. Came in Covid negative but became positive after moving about. Ambulance was required as my oxygen was below 90% and temp above 38*C. The ambulance staff, the A&E staff and later the ward doctors and staff were most cheerfully helpful. Their positive spirit is a credit to The Alfred Hospital. I was fixed within 2 nights stay. Thank you all…

-0/5. Absolutely appalling level of care from a hospital in metropolitan Australia. I sustained multiple fractured vertebrae from t11-t7 and I would probably have been better off going home and finding out if I was paralysed naturally. You’re treated by extremely incompetent students that are overseen by a “professional” that is just as incompetent l. I honestly can’t describe how bad the care is and how fast they were to pawn any responsibility off to other medical prof not directly associated with the Alfred. All I got from trip to the Alfred hospital was a chronic addiction to pain killers. Pay for basic private health because you DO NOT want to end up here.

Repetitively cancel procedures that would aid in proper diagnosis, slowly day by day killing their patients. No sense of urgency, no communication with family and will charge you $$$ for parking and free tv channels just to dig the nail in a little deeper. Do better!

I had to go into The Alfred after being on a long wait list for cervical spine issues. I wasn't attended to by a neurosurgeon but a physiotherapist, who was working off a check list. I was greeted very coldly and was told to perform certain activities and asked what the problem was and what I was feeling with my issue. She treated me with little regard and zero knowledge of my issue, telling me that my pain, tingling amd numbness couldn't possibly be due to my issue. That the neurosurgeon would give me a referral for a ct scan and for ct guided injections (which I had to pay for, I am a single parent pensioner) and to come back in 2 months. I was in absolute shock at my appointment and the referrals were a joke and illegible! Zero care goes into these appointments and you most certainly are just a number, nothing more! DISGRACEFUL! The Austin gets my thumbs up, they treat yoy with care and respect and you see an actual surgeon!!

I recently spent 12 days in the Alfred for lung cancer surgery. From go to whoa I was treated in a very professional manner by all doctors and nurses. I had a code blue event where I had collapsed and needed CPR. The calm and efficiency displayed by the 20 to 30 medicos who responded within minutes saved my life for which I will be forever in their debt. Sure the building needs attention but everthing else including the meals was great. Finally I thank the brilliant doctors and nurses who displayed care and attention throughout my hospitalization. The staff at the alfred were absolutely incredible. My mother suffered three burst brain aneurysms within a week of each other and my Dad and I had a very hard time coping through the trauma of it all (to say the least). The ICU nurses and staff would calm our nerves, call us every time something would happen, accomodate us and make us comfortable for the hours we would spend there night and day and care for my mother so lovingly. They’d braid what was left of her hair to cheer her up. Brought her a radio because that’s what she listened to every morning at home. Looked after all her needs and even decorated her room with Collingwood posters and gave her a tablet to watch when the grand final was on. They were warm, attentive, and caring. I will forever be thankful for the amazing neurosurgeons, Funda at reception (I’ll always remember the first night of you coming to get me when I was lost and crying) nurses Rachel, Lou, Loren, Olivia, Jon, Grace and Shell- all of you are amazing and I’ll never forget what you’ve done for our family ❤️ after almost four months we got our Jan home and she’s recovering so well

While I didn't spend several days here by choice, it was pleasure to meet the various nurses and medical staff, Geoff being my main nurse. Everyone was friendly, helpful and competent. We are lucky to have such a hospital and I would recommend it to anyone who needs hospital treatment. I think the delivery of meals that I didn't order was a minor organisational matter, but I wasn't very hungry, so have no comment about the meals as such. I would have liked a written summary of the doctors involved in my pacemaker procedure, as the people whizz past with minimal opportunity either to read the tags or hear the names: world class people nonetheless.

This is an amazing place with efficient caring staff. It should be rated 5/5. From the second we entered A and E to being discharged 5 days later I can only say the service, nursing and doctor standard of care, attention to detail, treatment and of course doctor diagnosis and necessary information was all second to none. Absolutely amazing. Thank you - it was a privilege to have been a patient there. Amazing.

I recently had to go to emergency and everyone was very caring and treated me with professionalism. Also wanted to specially thank the nurses Natasha and Kelly, they were EXTRA nice and even thought they have to work long shift they were amazing, this makes all the difference specially when you are passing through a bad time. Thanks so much again!

I've been to many hospitals due to my current condition. This hospital is by far the best ! Nurses are fantastic!!!! They kept coming back to me while I was waiting in the waiting room asking if I was okay and if I needed anything. When I was undergoing treatment the nurse who assisted me was soo full of energy at 1am in the morning helping through all treatments and staying by my side anytime I needed her. (I'd get sick again on purpose just to come back haha) The ladies and nurses at the front counter were lovely, kind, comforting and actually remember the patients who come into the emergency room. The doctor who took care of me as well was outstanding!!! He actually knew what he was doing, giving the best advice and treatment possible. Thier diagnoses were very clear and and precise and came to check on me often. I couldn't thank them enough. All your hard work will never go in vain. I just hope more patients see how hard working and caring you all are!!! Please keep it up !!!!!!!

I am in Alfred Hospital being looked after by Dr chan as i had a fall. First decision made was placing rods to my back. Although it was the best thing to do for my condition. However after a long good review and meeting with other great doctors. He has come to a conclusion that the operation for me having rods was too risky instead i am going to be given a back brace. This is why there are great doctors like him around. Plus Dr Chan was going to operate on my back personally not many do that. I knew i was safe I am so glad great doctors continue to work at Alfred Hospital. Even through covid-19 he was going to operate. To save my discs to slip forward and stopping me from being paralyzed..I just want to send a big thank you To Dr Chan and his team. I must say was very concerned about the operation due to my illness age and footdrop.I knew it was major and that i cluld not cope with rods and the pain that goes with it. I was very concerned about my recuperating time. The staff at Sandringham Hospital whom i was first taken to as an emergency Had great Doctors Nurses and even students were awesome and experienced.I was looked after like a queen. I was then transferred to Alfred the staff here is excellent they made sure i was comfortable they were awesome 24 hours caring for me. As i had to lie flat was not allowed to get up for anything. I am still here at Alfred hospital.. To all of you at both hospitals that had anything to do on my progress recovery I appreciate it and relieved at the same time.Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am so happy as wait for my back brace and a new foot drop AFO. One nurse I must thank alot is Nurse Rennay who put up with my tears trying to make me understand the consequences of getting up her continuous checking up on me being very patient with my bed pan use. Hats off to all the night nurses as well All the other nurses who rolled me over. The students are so vibrant, lovely and caring...If it wasn't for the qualified experienced nurses they would have no experience they are so lucky to learn from the best. This is why i donate to Alfred hospital and anything to do with science. However there is new technology out there that i saw on you tube surgeons can use this technique instead of screw and rods. Hopefully the doctors professors MR. all try to bring that technology soon. All the doctors probably know about it anyway A Big Thank You to all of you. I am so happy with eveything

I was taken to the emergency room and consequently to the trauma department 5 west due to a car accident that I had on 25.08.2021 with a possible spinal injury. Everyone who works at this hospital deserves a huge thank you, especially in the current circumstances with covid 19. In my specific case, I have to thank Beaumont-Kelly, Henry T, Stephanie C, Dyer, Jessamy, and Samantha S, for their remarkable work and for taking care of me. Also, I would like to thank the fantastic and kind lady (a consultant) who mentally supported me during the time I was in the hospital being an international student, not a native English speaker, and without having my family and friends here. Unfortunately I don't remember his name. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I am so grateful and impressed with the care, expertise, respect and treatment I received today in Emergency at the Alfred. I am only sorry that I have not posted before this from my original admission with a tri malleolar fracture following a pushbike accident. My care at that time was faultless from paramedic attendance to admittance, surgery and post operative care. Six weeks post surgery I presented today with an inflamed suture line which could be highly problematic. I was so assured by my rapid assessment and subsequent adjusted movement to their Fast Track parallel service for less complex presentations which enabled diagnostics, bloods and orthopaedic assessment quickly. Above all I I am so very thankful and admiring of all nurses within the ER at the Alfred. At all stages from Triage, my Advanced Practice Nurse on duty in particular making decisions pre-emptively to ensure optimum treatment and all nurses who assisted with and delivered my care, I thank you. The professionalism, treatment, openness and cheer of you all was so assuring. We are so fortunate to have such a high standard of care in our public hospital system. Thankyou so much

Had a 2 week stay due to pneumonia recently. Things were not looking great for me when I first arrived at the Alfred. However due to the professionalism and skills of the doctors and nurses there I'm recovering well now. They saved my backside. For people that work in a high pressure work environment, the Alfred medical staff were always calm and positive with a great sense of humour as they did their job and made sure that I had the best medical care available. The reason I'm still here is because of these guys, no doubt about it. Thanks so much to the Alfred Respiratory medical team.

I fell and broke my femur..ambulance to The Alfred, where I was immediately attended too, so well, very caring, I can’t tell you how bad the pain was-The Alfred gave me a nerve block and I did not experience any pain for the rest of my stay. Within a few hours I had a surgical intervention which secured my femur and I was discharged after just three nights there. The food was good, it was very modern, nurses were first rate….

The Alfred is a dream compare to Eastern Health. This satisfaction relates to the professionalism of the Review Doctors, Nurses and of course the operating surgens. Their processes for wait lists confirmation and follow up are well presented to the patient. The analysis on my condition prior to operation were very professional in that they took back and front scans

Nothing but praise for the staff here. Arrived in the ED after a trip to my GP. The admin team were extremely helpful as were the triage nurses. Unfortunately my fracture wasn't standard so off to the fast track I went for a temporary cast. Within a couple of hours, the ortho surgical team and emergency staff had me prepped and sent up to 2 East to get ready for surgery. After a night of fasting and pain management I was handed over to the talented crew in The Alfred Centre. About 4 hours later I was back on the ward, still groggy but with about 50% less pain. After one more night of OBS and the good meds I was briefly visited by the surgeons, the physio and the pharmacist. All done in just under 3 days. Considering this was my first ever surgery and hospital stay, I was pretty nervous but everyone made me feel comfortable and assured throughout. Big ups to everyone in 2 East and my surgeon Peter.

The best hospital I've ever been to!!! I just wanted to say thank you to 7 WEST and all the nurses + the whole neurology team and the pharmacist. EVERY SINGLE PERSON was absolutely amazing, extremely professional, and gave me 200%. I felt listened to, respected, and for the first time ever - that I am in good hands and I can trust everyone. Everyone was very thorough and did their best to help me while I was not only very unwell but also under huge pressure and extremely stressed. My experience with doctors and hospitals was genuinely horrible (many places for many years) and you just changed everything for me and proved impossible. I will be back in the hospital quite a bit probably as we are still investigating things and I haven't recovered yet. But in the meantime, I simply wanted to say THANK YOU. I have never experienced such good care, in so many ways (and I've been in several hospitals in many countries around the world, including most in Brisbane and Sydney).

I'm not happy with the service from Sarah Palermo for surgery as she was my anthesis. I had less than 48 hours notice to pay a whopping amount of $3,500 up front which I have never had to do that before and it's my fourth major surgery. I got told by her receptionist that I would get most the money back which I only got $900 back for a 3-4 hour surgery and I’m not out of pocket $2,600 which is ridiculous. I then had to do all my rebate myself which I have never had to do before which took a lot of time and effort and the receptionist told me the wrong way to do it. I then waited weeks for my rebate back. I’ve never had to pay this much money out of pocket before. I do NOT recommend going with Sarah Palermo. I’ve never had to by more than $700 before. Very disorganised and deceitful.

I had the most disgusting experience at the Australia post outlet at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne on Tuesday. I was accused of using used stamps on my 2 letters, and I said don't call me a liar. The 2 men laughed at me one with shoulder-length grey hair and tattoos. The other was a tallish guy and shot of beard. I went back after my appointment and showed the tallish man. I used old stamps, and he laughed at me. I was really annoyed he swore at me he said take your mail back then. I thought about it. And went back in and did so. Then, the young guy working they also decided to get in on the act and laugh at me. I'm a 60 year old lady it's a hospital, and obviously, you're either a patient or a visitor to somebody who is ill. Completely disgusting behaviour.... 🫣

Thank you to Nurse Toby Dobell in Emergency who took the time to assist my 80 year old mum, who was hit by a car and waited in emergency on a wheelchair for ages and Dr Bec Pittroff who cared for her and allowed my son to use her hotspot so he can do his homework whilst we waited! They should be commended for their authentic, caring nature and sincerity especially when I asked x3 nurses to assist and no one came back (even with any pain killers) So nice to see there are medical staff out there who genuinely care for our health!!

Overall, a very comforting treatment by all staff involved. Dr Sanjeev Gill, has shown his respect and compassion on a number occasions and I wish him all the best. Dr Chloe Coleman is also great and honest to the point a quality caring doctor. Nurses are always the best here. Full clarity and no hesitation in providing details for their patients. Dissapointed in Prof. Mark Shackleton the director of oncology doesnt spend time with patients only maybe one ward visit from him in 8 months no clarification. He seems to leave his own team out to take the falls. He should be ashamed to call himself the director of the clinic.

Dirty unethical staff. Receptionist was busy playing games on the computer and had the volume up way to loud with it....why?... Went in with a dislocated knee, was offered a Panadol, doctor signed off to get it and THEN I NEVER RECIEVED IT despite saying they gave it to me. Other time i was waiting 2 over 2 hours for tooth pain. Just ended up having to go to the pharmacy and triple dose on ibuprofen on Panadol

I'm a patient in multiple clinics there for chronic disease in multiple systems, including cancer, in emergency quite a few times, so I've seen a lot of the hospital over the past ten years. They are particularly well organized, with friends of mine fairly senior in other hospital administrations commenting that not all hospitals do "pre-admission clinics" for surgery. For example, before kidney surgery, rather than the night before have a few questions "what are your pills? any allergies?", they get you in a week before to go over everything, avoid nasty surprises, almost on a conveyor belt: blood tests, urine, ecg, see anaesthetist, surgeon, pharmacist to go over your meds, found out I was epileptic (so they knew to get details to have neurology pre-prepared in case anything wrong happened on the day, and have time to get their advice on anaesthetics beforehand). And saw urologists a second time after they had reviewed everything everyone else had seen. Amazing. Took only a couple of hours. All the specialists seem to see me not as just "their" organ, but a whole integrated system. The cardiologists will ask kidney-related questions, for example. The respiratory and kidney specialists will ask about heart issues. The neurologists will ask about my kidney function. There is a reason it has been the primary trauma centre in the state - there is no place to handle a sudden load of emergencies like it. I've been in there when they've had less critical patients in emergency overflowing into reception, bringing the carts with BP monitoring out into reception - and they've seen me (a little slow, understandably), but still been careful, known not to do the normal thing and take me off a new drug giving a problem, because they've, despite being rushed, checked up the 6 month plan for me, so known how the "normal" thing was not the right thing. Sure, the buildings are a bit creaky, but the administration and staff are top notch. And for visitors, the food court at lunchtime is about as good as anything you'll get on Chapel Street for a reasonable price. ;-)

If you are can avoid going to this place do it. If you wake up here, discharge, transfer, anything. Doctors and nursing staff are not interested in ‘best practice’.Never heard of ‘duty of care’ and collaboration with patients and families is too demeaning for them. Best to let a patient receive incorrect in inadequate care. Very quick to call security if you dare question anything. Have never experienced anything as traumatic in my life as having a vulnerable family member in their care. Three different family members at different times.

A huge thank you to the amazing healthcare workers here. The nurses are always so willing to help if need be and go above and beyond. The doctors and pharmacists all communicate effectively. The only feedback I would give is that the ammenities aren’t super crash hot. The lock on the toilet didn’t work at all and it seemed like for shared spaces they were cleaned fairly irregularly. Not complaining as everything else was honestly good but if those were improved it would be great!

So I am at a loss as to what to do . I have great news today I have had pre operation x-ray and having my operation Friday and the staff have been so polite and professional

In for a day procedure and it was the best hospital experience I've had! The staff are incredible so kind and helpful. I was very nervous but they put my mind at ease and did whatever they could to make me feel comfortable. Thank you to the staff at The Alfred!

We experienced the Alfred treatment when my mother was very ill. My faith in humanity has been restored due to the unbelievably caring, and kind staff who treated us with the most enormous respect and understanding. They pursued every avenue to help mum and were so patient explaining everything. Every single member of staff-reception, volunteers, cleaners, orderlies, nurses, doctors allied services and more are absolutely amazing. We are the luckiest city to have such people and not only does each and everyone of them deserve the highest pay, they also deserve to work in an updated facility. Forever grateful, Belinda Dishon

Very thankful for the care and help I needed. They are very well organised, I felt really taken care for. It was or me a huge thing to be so well helped and this was all possible. A very thankful possibility this is there. It sounds so normal, but when you are in need of care, and feel a kind of helpless with the situation, great knowledgeable service and people with was beyond thankful.

Icu are wonderfully dedicated and under appreciated. General is terrible and needs more funding, I had to sleep in the visitor lounge as my room mate was out of her mind, incontinant, snored or made loud moaning noises for attention non stop and wanted 24/7 attention from staff or myself and she yelled at my iV machine for beeping . She should have been in her own room and staff agreed but no effort was made to deal with her

the customer service has no manner at all. they ended up the phone call and not helping the inquiry and being rude to patient. how rude. been waiting in line and asking kindly. please make this as a reminder that you have to care for patients as a customer service. literally have bad experience going to ER in this hospital. waiting in line for more than 2 hours while in sickness.

Don't even think about going in to the emergency at this hospital. They gave me pain killers after 2.5 hours I admited. I went through the worst pain I ever had and there were no nurses to help out. Finally I decided to leave the hospital since resting at home would help me better than sitting there with no medications

Poor form Alfred Hospital. You discharged a 19yr old female at 11pm after arriving at 4am. Still unwell, dizzy, feeling faint. She's been in Melb one week and is sent home to an Airbnb to be by herself. God help you if she falls and hurts herself early hrs of the morning. Ever heard of Duty of Care????!!!! Furious you put her in further harms way at 11pm at night.

This hospital has denied a Melbournian a heart transplant because of not taking a vax. Despite So much scientific evidence of it killing and harming so many around the world. I look forward to seeing this hospital sued and the people responsible put in jail. Disgusting criminals!

All staff from every department were incredibly helpful and considerate. Even the surgeon registrar. Prefer not to be in hospital but can't ask for better experience than I had here.

The pits of a place. Nothint but ARROGANT Drs, you are up against a system, people be warned. We took our mum and got her out of there after they had her for dead 3 times. So much happier elsewhere and mum is thriving. Nothing like what the supposed “Doctors” said at The Alfred. Arrogance arrogance shame on you. Not about the patient but about their own heads. Staff, do not reply to me in any way, Im not interested in anything you may have to say.

My wife Dawn was just recently admitted to the Alfred for surgery. Her treatment from each member of staff showed outstanding care and attention. She can't thank them and praise them highly enough. Thanks to you all.

Just had a small operation and everyone from nurses to anaesthetist to surgeon was the loveliest professionals I've come across. They made me feel at ease and were so kind, cannot recommend enough

Presented to the ER with difficulty breathing due to a recent asthma diagnosis and everyone from reception, security, nurses, radiologists and doctors were incredible! So so kind and helpful. You can tell they genuinely care for their patients and even though they are under the pump and it’s the middle of the night and I’m sure they’re tired they were absolutely amazing! Probably the best experience and level of care I’ve ever received at any hospital! I didn’t get a chance to see the doctor before I left but a massive thank you to Dr. Eri Aung and all the nurses who looked after me! So grateful 🥰

Let me start by saying I am a resident of both US and Australia so I am in a unique position of being able to compare hospital experiences from both countries. This past week I ended up in Alfred Hospital due to a foot bacterial infection that was spreading fast and required hospital stay. This is an amazing hospital, in fact it is so impressive, I still cannot believe that it's a public hospital. The entire experience, from arrival and a pretty short wait time, to discharge was as pleasent as one's stay in hospital can be. The staff were professional, caring and accomodating to the same level that's I've seen in expensive US hospitals. I was constantly kept in the loop with regards to my case and I never felt forgotten, ignored or pushed aside. Keep in mind that my case was a walk in the park compared to the type of medical cases that these people deal with daily, but that had no effect on how I was treated. The facilities were excellent, clean, new, I honestly did not feel like I was in a public hospital. The food was very good too, obviously it's not the Ritz Hotel, but it's not supposed to be anyway. To cut the long story short, excellent, professional, superb in every way!!! I hope I don't have to visit any hospitals any time soon but if I do, I'm going to the Alfred Hospital.

I suffer from a heart condition, so I know when my symptoms need tending to. I struggled to even keep myself upright as I was so dizzy, and the left me on a chair in the ‘fast track’ section. I laid across plastic chairs infront of the nurses station for nearly an hour. The entire unit was empty and full of beds. I was not asked how I am, about my pain, not even said ‘hello’ to. Eventually a nurse told me to go into a bay with a plastic fold-out ‘bed’, and left me there with no pillow, blanket, nothing, and it took me reaching the point of balling my eyes out crying for the nurse to ask me if I wanted panadol!!! Even then, I didn’t get the panadol for another hour. I would honestly rather risk the complications of my condition at home than put myself through the neglect and unnecessary amount of pain here. Could’ve taken panadol three hours ago at home.

My husband woke up very dizzy, having chest pain and almost passing out. I took his BP and it was 174/122. I am a nurse and i know this is a serious symptom that require attention. At the time i needed to go to work so i told my husband to call the ambulance so paramedics can check him while im away. When paramedics came in they assess him and decided to take him to ED. However my husband said that the doctor and nurses in the Alfred was not happy that he got sent to ED because he just have "high bp". He got told to go home and contact his gp. Did not even bother to give him any meds for blood pressure. He had to walk back home (20mins) under the rain, still with a very high bp and feeling dizzy. This is suprisingly appaling how they treated him. No service, very inhuman and you call yourselves doctor or nurses. Lucky he did not get a heart attack or stroke! Lesson learn, don't even bother to go to this hospital cause they are simply useless, they are just gonna turn you away and suffer more
