I'm
a
patient
in
multiple
clinics
there
for
chronic
disease
in
multiple
systems,
including
cancer,
in
emergency
quite
a
few
times,
so
I've
seen
a
lot
of
the
hospital
over
the
past
ten
years.
They
are
particularly
well
organized,
with
friends
of
mine
fairly
senior
in
other
hospital
administrations
commenting
that
not
all
hospitals
do
"pre-admission
clinics"
for
surgery.
For
example,
before
kidney
surgery,
rather
than
the
night
before
have
a
few
questions
"what
are
your
pills?
any
allergies?",
they
get
you
in
a
week
before
to
go
over
everything,
avoid
nasty
surprises,
almost
on
a
conveyor
belt:
blood
tests,
urine,
ecg,
see
anaesthetist,
surgeon,
pharmacist
to
go
over
your
meds,
found
out
I
was
epileptic
(so
they
knew
to
get
details
to
have
neurology
pre-prepared
in
case
anything
wrong
happened
on
the
day,
and
have
time
to
get
their
advice
on
anaesthetics
beforehand).
And
saw
urologists
a
second
time
after
they
had
reviewed
everything
everyone
else
had
seen.
Amazing.
Took
only
a
couple
of
hours.
All
the
specialists
seem
to
see
me
not
as
just
"their"
organ,
but
a
whole
integrated
system.
The
cardiologists
will
ask
kidney-related
questions,
for
example.
The
respiratory
and
kidney
specialists
will
ask
about
heart
issues.
The
neurologists
will
ask
about
my
kidney
function.
There
is
a
reason
it
has
been
the
primary
trauma
centre
in
the
state
-
there
is
no
place
to
handle
a
sudden
load
of
emergencies
like
it.
I've
been
in
there
when
they've
had
less
critical
patients
in
emergency
overflowing
into
reception,
bringing
the
carts
with
BP
monitoring
out
into
reception
-
and
they've
seen
me
(a
little
slow,
understandably),
but
still
been
careful,
known
not
to
do
the
normal
thing
and
take
me
off
a
new
drug
giving
a
problem,
because
they've,
despite
being
rushed,
checked
up
the
6
month
plan
for
me,
so
known
how
the
"normal"
thing
was
not
the
right
thing.
Sure,
the
buildings
are
a
bit
creaky,
but
the
administration
and
staff
are
top
notch.
And
for
visitors,
the
food
court
at
lunchtime
is
about
as
good
as
anything
you'll
get
on
Chapel
Street
for
a
reasonable
price.
