Terrible hospital. Zero respect. NO CULTURAL COMMON SENSE! Absolutely no care AT ALL! Orthopaedic surgeons are heartless and horrible. They don’t actually treat patients. They cover symptoms and send you on your way! I’ve seen this time and time again! Orthopaedic surgeon told a patient that they were not interested in their mental health as it’s not their problem. Nurse demanded patient to stop crying from pain otherwise she won’t be given her pain medication. Elderly patient 91 year old with broken ribs had stomach pain due to not being able to eat their inedible food and was offered an ultrasound. Their food wouldn’t even be eaten by a dog! Senior doctor spoke about patient/s Disrespectfully in front of them and inform of other patients! Nursing night staff Anita was RUDE and abrupt! Jude the acting unit manager was an absolute disgrace! Trying to give me clinical advice as to why the patient was having health issues WHEN NOT CLINICALLY TRAINED TO DO SO! I requested to speak to the nurse unit manager and he told me that he was late to a meeting and he couldn’t walk up stairs it was too hard for him and for me to ring the hospital again and be out through to her. NOT FIT FOR THE JOB!!!! Patient was sent home ALONE with a broken foot and ZERO aftercare! They also changed ALL her medications including insulin upon discharge without monitoring how she would be on them or even following up until 7 days later! DISGUSTING AND WILL BE TAKING THIS FURTHER!

To the CEO. The Indigenous flag IS NOT the national flag of Australia and should NOT be flying at equal height as the actual National flag. Fix it. Your staff however are excellent - pity you don’t know protocol over political theatre.

AVOID AT ALL COST ! Two out of Two shameful experiences ! First Experience: Took my son in with a 41* temperature. reading which I had taken. I explained his symptoms and neither my son or myself was checked or tested by staff! Second Experience: 1x month later. Took my son in for an ankle X-ray! Almost 6hrs in waiting room. 1 other person empty rooms so (not busy) they later confessed they misplaced my arrival documentation. Hence the waiting time! A lot of Laugher & Joking going on behind doors. 😡 Slack communication going on with reception staff. Very disappointing! Simply Avoid this place if you can.

I want to thank everyone at Sandringham hospital, I wish I could hug them all and send them flowers. On 15th of November I went in to ED to have d&c for my missed miscarriage at 11 weeks pregnant. Yes, waiting times to be seen are long, but this is a public hospital and it's just the way it is now. I wasn't admitted that day, and thankfully was sent home to rest and prepare for the procedure early next morning on 16th of November. People working there are so kind, welcoming, reassuring, thorough and professional. They listen, they take time to comfort, to share their own story to make you feel a bit better about loosing your baby. They warmed my bed, wrapped me in blankets, they complimented my appearance a few times, they fed me sandwiches, cheese and crackers and made me a good cup of coffee. They didn't take their eyes of me during recovery, I genuinely felt safe and comfortable. They explained every step of the way to make sure I was aware of what's coming next. And they didn't charge me a dime. My gratitude goes to the reception ladies and nurses at ED, and everyone who tended to me at the Day Procedure. You all are exceptional and Sandringham is very fortunate to have you! Thank you.

1-I got in for some stitches on my head since I had an accident at home and I was bleeding 2-I was told that it would be 1-1.5 hours wait because they were "very busy" 3-after 1 h they visit me and say they are preparing a room 4-after 2 hours I was still sitting in the waiting room After the scamdemic this is just another show of Victoria's government utter incompetence. During those 2 hours: 1-Barely 10 people checked in with minor problems 2-I kept seeing people doing nothing just running around empty hands. When the bleeding stopped I decided to leave and the nurse had the gut to ask me to wait to be checked out.I handed over the wristband and left. Unbelievable useless service paid by our taxes

More than a hospital, this is a circus. I went to emergency as my condition got worse while I am on waiting list for surgery the whole process took close to 4 hours. I have been discriminated and treated like a positive case because I refused to do their COMPULSORY COVID TESTS (only been told this one hour after I was admitted) they said every patient has to do. So I got removed and been sent out to red zone waiting room. Disgusting behaviour and discriminatory. Before being nurses you should learn to be human being and learn how to deal with the public. One positive note, the doctor I saw was very patient and helped

Thank-you, thank-you to all the doctors and nurses at the Sandringham Hospital Emergency, Warden and Surgery Teams. My son was very sick and his pain went from zero to a hundred within minutes. The diagnostic young doctor who identified his sickness was first class and he made quick decisions without a fuss. The surgeons were also informative and understanding I just needed my Son operated on asap. What a job they did, his recovery with the nurses was comfortable. He is now back at school and looking forward to enjoying life a young 16 year old should be. Thank-you, thank-you.

to all those with complaints of wait times, dated hospital etc. what do you want for nothing ? just be thankful you're not in the US. though we are headed that way seeing as so many got sucked into the private health insurance scam, that was the start of the rot. which hasnt ended..still working towards the end of free health care. be thankful and stop whinging

Traumatized birth experience too many interruptions. After care was worse. The midwives were real bullies there and had no idea of breastfeeding. There was only one midwife who was caring and knew what they were doing, this star is for her.

Julia was so kind and considerate and gave me a blanket as i was freezing (down fr the NT). We waited ages, (kinda good as it meant we weren’t as bad as others, i guess!) Thanks Julia! And Dawn the ward clerk was fabulous too, beautifully spoken and efficient.

I would like to thank Sandringham hospital for the excellent care and service they provided me and my wife during the hardest time of our lives. The midwives Katie Taylor and Georgia were amazing, they were always there for us, giving us comfort, guidance, and encouragement. They made us feel safe and respected, and they helped us deliver our beautiful baby. They are truly angels in disguise. I would give this hospital 10 out of 5 stars if I can. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs maternity care. Thank you so much, Sandringham hospital! 🙏

Absolutely awful birth experience at Sandringham. I was induced unnecessarily and lied to about blood results. The doctors were awful and intervened during the birth without proper consent. One midwife was nice but the night midwife was horrible and made me feel like a burden for asking for help she was also really rough with my baby. I would never ever recommend anyone birth at Sandringham hospital. The care there is horrendous

Hello I stayed over night and received surgery a few days ago. I wanted to say thank you so much to every doctor and nurse. I felt very supported and comforted. I have autism and depression and was very frightened before the surgery and staff helped me a lot. They made sure to bring me food that I was not allergic to and I would recommend Sandringham to anybody , they made me feel very safe.

The staff members were so impatient, rude and rough!!!! The nurses don’t have any common sense, constantly talking, laughing and getting carried away. Couldn’t rest properly because they were so NOISY! They also forgot to pick me up after I had my ultrasound. I waited in the hallway with no shoes for 20 minutes… SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL.

Had an unexpected 8 hour visit to the hospital yesterday. Went in expecting the worst and thought I would have to wait hours before I was seen. But I only waited about an hour and next thing I know I’m having bloods taken and a CT scan due to swollen lymph nodes in my neck. They pumped me full of steroids and put me in a room where they fed me and checked on me regularly. It was a long day and kind of scary because I was all by myself, but the hospital staff were amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, all things considered. Hats off to our public health care system and to staff at Sandringham Hospital for looking after me so well.

I delivered my first baby at Sandringham hosp in Dec 21. It was a wonderful experience, I truly cannot thank the amazing midwives/doctors enough. They were professional and I felt extremely safe/well looked after the whole time. The after care was equally as great. Home visits with beautiful, friendly midwives. I also accidentally left my fav pillow from home behind that I used during labour.. thought they had probably binned it so I never bothered to get in touch.. a couple weeks later a midwife passing by randomly dropped it at our door!

Do not go they forget you. My husband was triaged and Wounds rebandged to soak up blood and then waited 2 hours with multiple deep gashes to his arm from an accident. Then he asked when he was going to be seen and the hospital triage staff said his name wasn’t in the system and shrugged their shoulders. Ended up going to GP who was horrified as it should have had hospital attention. Hopefully he doesn’t get infection or more serious things happen because of the negligence of hospital Admin and triage emergency staff. There was 5 people in the emergency office and 3 people in the waiting room. However when I fractured my foot the orthopaedic clinic was really professional.

Worst 'pretend' hospital ever. The lovely garden at the front promises so much, but ultimately delivers so little. My elderly mother who is 92 years old waited in the ED with my brother for over 7x hours on Saturday afterrnoon.& was eventually admitted for 4x days, so obviously it wasn't some two bit nothing footy injury, all of which seemed to take priority at the time. In endeavouring to contact her, I was mucked around from ward to ward, until they finally located her - not that hard one would imagine, but alas no. And, whilst granted most of the doctors & nurses were very helpful & caring, one particularly passive aggressive nurse seemed to find great comfort in informing me that having waited 3x hours since the hospital had informed me that she was ready to be discharged, that they had obviously 'jumped the gun' because apparently Mum was waiting to see the specialised 'nurse at home' service & gleefully explained that it could take hours. As it transpires, this interaction had actually taken place earlier that morning & the other nurse subsequently informed me that we were indeed waiting on pharmacy & a Doctor's signature which took another half an hour. The pharmacist subsequently provided a convoluted & extremely confusing narrative in terms of the probably unnecessary changes that they had made to Mum's medication, given that she is already being monitored by a reputable cardiologist at another 'real' hospital of some note. I mean some sort of effective communication wouldn't go astray & it would have been heartening to know that at least at some point the staff might have possibly been on the same page. Given that, I would never ever recommend this hospital to anyone, let alone a vulnerable elderly woman & be assured that both my brother & I will be escalating this matter further. So, do with that what you will.

Went in with a sprained ankle. My ankle was not mobilised. I was offered no relief, and when i asked what to do if it is still sore in a few days as it had already been 3 days of anti inflammatory meds, i was advised to go to a physio and handed some crutches. Not told to rest, not told to ice. Not told to do anything. Whilst the people were lovely the care was not.

I had my baby in October at Sandy and couldn’t have been happier with my experience! Felt so supported as a first time mum. The prenatal appointments were great. I really felt like we were in the best hands possible the whole time. All midwives were wonderful, the delivery team were amazing. Ended up having my own room which was wonderful. Food was better than I expected and catering staff so friendly. Each specialist that came and saw me and bubs were amazing! At home follow up was also so amazing including the lactation support from the lactation specialist. Thanks so much!

Women's health gynaecology outpatient clinic has the nicest staff throughout the whole centre. From reception, to paperwork, to students to the actual gynaecologist & nurse. Never felt judged, my weight never came into the equation once, felt comfortable and welcomed by all staff around me. What a lovely clinic to actually be treated like a human being. Such a wonderful experience. Thank you ladies xx.

The lack of care given to my mother after she was transferred to a ward borders on negligence. Emergency was ok, when transferred to the ward, my 82 yo father was tasked with getting her off the emergency bed into the ward bed, she was misdiagnosed with a fracture to her coccyx when it was a fracture to her pelvis, a physio tried to make her stand up despite her screaming in pain and then asked my dad how he lifted her at home (so she had no idea). Any time I asked a question, I was met with an attitude that I was a problem. They left an external door open in her room overnight, thus making the room very cold, they would not feed her or give her drinks, but didn't ask family to come in and do that either. She was writhing in pain and hallucinating. Family were tasked with administering medicine. She was petrified being there. On day 3 we asked for a formal review. Only then they got a geriatrician to attend and she has now been transferred to another hospital on our request and is doing much better. Whilst we were there another patient had a nasty fall right in front of the nurses station and further injured himself. It was a sh*tshow. If you have an elderly person with memory or mobility issues, please consider elsewhere.

Had my second baby here at the hospital and was a bit apprehensive at first given I had my first at Cabrini Malvern. I had a multiple complications during pregnancy and despite having different OB each time at the clinic it was reassuring to me that their advice was consistent. The delivery was extremely smooth and I would rate 10/5 staff were amazing. Had I known this was going to be the experience as a public patient at Sandy, I would have had my first baby here too.

I was admitted to the emergency department with undiagnosable dizzyness after a fall in the late afternoon. The wait time was very long but i was waiting behind those who needed more urgent care. The medications did not help AND I WAS NOT TOLD OF THE SIDE EFFECTS. I was told stroke.... brain injury.... tumour ..... The only one who knew what was wrong with me was the physiotherapist Jason. He showed me it was my ear crystals BPPV that were wrong and helped me to put them back into place by moving in bed. He fixed me after a few hours and made sure i had aftercare. I would recommend for family but make sure THEY TELL YOU WHAT MEDICATIONS THEY ARE GIVING AND WHAT TO EXPECT. I felt more dizzy after the medications.

My older mother was having chest pains recently and due to her age was recommended to go to the hospital. We went to Sandringham hospital . At every level from parking to admission, to emergency , many tests ,assessments and a short stay we had incredible service and respect . The communication, professionalism and kindness shown to us was excellent. They were busy but kept us in the loop in the process . My mother received the best care and fortunately it was nothing serious . I looked into this hospital and learnt it had been under risk of closure . We are so glad that didn’t happen , this place is such as asset to the community.

I was recently admitted overnight in critical care for a serious infection. Although the ER was busy i was seen by a doctor within around 40mins of arriving and admitted shortly after to a ward for treatment. 5 stars to the nurses and doctors i encountered. They were very caring, understanding and thorough with their treatment towards me. They made sure i was safe and checked up on me as they knew i was incredibly anxious due to the environment. I’ve removed 1 star as i found it was impossible to “rest” due to the ward layout. Doors slamming, screaming patients from General Med, lights going on and off.. i didn’t get any sleep due to how much noise there was. I understand it’s a hospital and it’s noisey but it felt really over the top.

We had our first baby at Sandy. The team here is amazing from the reception staff, to midwives and doctors. Everyone is super kind and thoughtful even though it’s much harder to be empathetic with all the covid restrictions the midwives at sandy go above and beyond. Special mention to Charlotte, Ingrid and Elly for support both pre and post delivery

I wish I could give 10 stars. I had the best birthing experience at Sandringham. Every single midwife, doctor and all staff were amazing. Special shoutout to Estelle and Georgia for the safe delivery of our beautiful daughter. Estelle didn’t even take her break and worked past her knock off time to ensure she was present for the entire labour. Georgia was very patient gentle and calm in my aftercare. I also can’t thank Catherine enough, who looked after me and my baby on the ward. She was so supportive and helpful. Her wonderful positive attitude is so uplifting. She even took my baby and got her settled so I could sleep. (Exactly what I needed) On my discharge day, I actually cried leaving the hospital when saying goodbye to the staff as they were so lovely, and made my experience so special. Thank you, thank you, thank you

I don’t denied Sandringham hospital emergency and surgery team were excellent as they have provided the excellent care and attention to me during an emergency. Unfortunately the outpatient ward services after surgery was extremely and the poor services from the outpatient clinic. With my elbow dislocation injury and post surgery, I was supposed to have a Physio therapist introduced to me before my surgery but never had any Physio therapist. iMai wore an elbow brace for 7 to 8 weeks and had my third visit at the outpatient clinic to see an orthopedic doctor. He advised and recommended me for Physio treatment as he did. Unfortunately the hospital has a long waiting list for another 8 weeks which was not ideal for my case as I needed one immediately. The Physio clinic referred me to see a private external Physio which of cause I have to pay out of pocket with my private health. I have checked in as private health patient for my surgery and I have lost my private health excess for few hundred dollars of dollars for the year plus Medicare benefit paid for my surgery and I did not get a better service from Sandringham hospital. Also the junior doctors attended at the outpatient clinic kept making errors in my condition when requesting for my xray with the radiology department. I am shocked to see doctors were so careless and not attention to details when they see patient’s records. The outpatient ward and the outpatient clinic services need a lot of work to improve the services. For sure I will never check in a public hospital using my private health cover as it was not worth to help in the funding for public system as I was not treated any different but worst than I expected.

By far one of the best public hospitals for emergency. I've been to countless private hospitals for the emergency department and had to wait hours before getting in, but sandy is always considerate of the people who need to go in right away and get treated. Sandy also has minimal elderly patients waiting to get checked (which clog up the waiting times in private hospitals)

I had my first baby in this hospital. The experience before delivery was good. I was provided with everything I needed. But, after I delivered my baby, I felt neglected and my needs weren’t met. I was left covered with blood on neck, arms and face after having skin to skin with baby. My family was waiting outside to meet the baby but they had to wait as I wasn’t provided with anyone who could help me clean. The midwife thought of doing the documentation before helping me. Later, I requested for pain killer which I was given around at midnight. I stayed there overnight alone with baby and I was disappointed because my partner couldn’t stay with me. Overall, it wasn’t a good experience as I expected and won’t be going there again.

31/08 Emergency department. So impressed Dr Daniel, Nurse Sophie (forgot both surnames!), reception and those connected to tests. I so rarely have been to hospital (let alone emergency), so felt scared and upset. I received incredible, holistic, attentive care plus outstanding beside manner & warmth. I thought about this incredible team for days afterwards and their efficient, caring work and just felt incredibly fortunate. All this while wearing masks for the entire shift and juggling priorities. They set such an absolute benchmark. Thank you to the team.

This hospital is a shambles and really drags down Alfred Health's good name.A close relative went to emergency and they handled her fine, like any under the pump emergency department can. No issues with emergency. The issues occurred when she was admitted into the hospital itself. They basically did nothing for her apart from give her a bed and an ultrasound. They forgot her when she was admitted, so didn't see a doctor for more than 8 hours. She was also fasting to until she saw a doctor, so wasn't fed for over 15 hours. She wasn't given any pain medication, even though her pain was extreme. And after the fast they gave her food that was not appropriate for her condition, so her pain went through the roof again. Unfortunately, they had discharged her at this point with no advice on what to do next. Absolute mess.

Travelled all the way down to get my first Pfizer jab. Waited so long. Got to front of queue and asked the nurse for toilet only to be told I had to go out and turn right and there will be ladies toilet. Followed the instructions only to find no toilet. Stood near front door of one of the buildings only to be told by another nurse that I couldn't use their toilet and that I should go back as there should be toilets in the vaccination building. So walked back to the queue and continued lining up. Two unhelpful nurses. Disappointed. Thankfully no accidents.

My name is Andrew Larkin. I recently entered Sandy hospital as a transfer from The Alfred casualty dept with serious & extremely painful back problems. The staff were caring attentive professional & understanding. I’d like to give a special shout out to Adriana who went out of her way to ensure my stay was as comfortable as it could be. In a shared room I witnessed her amazing level of care with an elderly patient & many others, always with a smile. Well done Adriana. Only reason review lost a star is because in my area (can’t speak for other wards) in an older hospital, there was some maintenance work required, nothing serious, & clearly a lack of funding problem. Great old hospital in beautiful Sandringham with top level staff. 👍😎

We arrived at Sandringham hospital approximately 7:00pm , and are still waiting at 8:30pm. My partner can barely breathe, firstly they are not offering him oxygen or showing any urgency, secondly stitches and coughs are going before him. I would have thought not being able to breathe would be triaged pretty highly… disgraceful triage process and disappointing lack of care and urgency.

I have had such terrible experiences with this hospital I now refuse to go back and would be frightened if ever taken to this hospital . Ingrid who works in radiology could not have been more inefficient, rude and unprofessional towards my 1 year old child getting a hip X-ray. She should be banned from being around children and or vulnerable people. Disgraceful human being. She deliberately made my child afraid of her. This hospital also made me wait hours in the public waiting room, heavily bleeding whilst 27 weeks pregnant. My issues are not isolated - many people I know in the Bayside area are reacting to poor medical care received from this hospital.

Had to take 91 yr old mum there for X-rays after a fall. The nurses and doctors were so helpful and fussed over her. We should be so proud of the work our nurses and doctors, especially with our experience at Sandringham

ED nurses do not appear to have a basic understanding of paediatrics. They offered my 8 month old a bottle of cows milk, then laughed and agreed when I said that he probably too young. A very rude ED doctor then suggested that I had googled my sons symptoms.

Visited Sandy Hospital today (Christmas eve) and was triaged, diagnosed, and treated within 60 minutes and it didn't cost me a cent. Could not be happier. Thanks, guys.

I watched an elderly man in a wheelchair burst into tears because he had been waiting over 3 hours and no one had seen him or checked in on him. I understand hospitals are busy places but it was almost cruel to witness this

After a normal 2 hour wait I was assessed, had X-rays done, and was quickly operated on by the fabulous Dr. Rob, and lovely nurse Maddie gave me my tetanus shot. Friendly helpful staff. Less waiting times in the morning than evenings.

I always have the best experience when I need to visit Sandy hospital (Alfred now). BUT To the rude young blonde nurse that was in ER on night of Oct 30, 23 adopt some manners!!! All I did was politely question what you are administering or have been asked to do and on top of this I displayed empathy towards you thinking you must have had a long shift. No you didn’t have a long shift, you’re just full of attitude, which I calmly pointed out. Your aggression was completely unnecessary. Not only that, utterly unprofessional as the kind Doctor on duty came across to explain and action what you failed to do!! Your job!!!!

Emergency Department. Waited for almost 5 hours just to be screened again to say that my name would be called. I had asked at the 2 hour mark and told there were 4 people ahead of me. 2 hours later i checked again to be told they are very busy and my name has just been put on the screen. An hour later.... I had somehow been lost in the system.... Looks like the "system" needs a lot of help. Very disappointing.

My dad was admitted to Sandy Hospital last week with extremely severe vertigo. Hospital staff Attended to him promptly and helped ease his condition but it was Jason Pereira who performed An amazing manoeuvre to finally help his condition. We are extremely thankful to him and the staff & Highly Recommend Jason to anyone else with the same condition.

Just had my first child here. Every midwife and doctor was absolutely amazing. Big Shout out to midwife Sarah, obstetrician mark and anaesthetist James, who made me feel cared for when things didn’t quite go right.

Worst hospital in Melbourne. No step up to take infants. No urgency and super slow incompetent staff. I came to this hospital with an 11 month old who had a head trauma and large cut to her head that wouldn’t stop bleeding. Was triaged behind adults with sprains and non urgent issues for 3hrs until I lodged a complaint. Will be going to Monash Clayton instead and never returning to this hospital. Parents with young kids should be aware

I attended Sandringham Hopital this very day, feeling very weak. Notwithstanding I have not been to an emergency for decades, I have been greeted with personel here who have delivered to me obvious care, professionalism and the human touch, second to none. Dr. John, and the nurses Chanel, Mary and Dan are outstanding. I am still here waiting for some further results after a very comprehension examination. And time is not an issue when you are given the confidence they have imparted. My late Grandfather was an Alfred Medico and Honorary who loved "his hospital". He would be so proud of your organisation today. I trust your Board are well aware and proud of their staff. Robert

The most gentle Nurse ever. Trudy you are a diamond. Such a non-hospital experience. Wonderful.

😠 80+-year-old mum Margaret goes to hospital, the so-called Mercy Hospital at Werribee, to the Emergency Department, after a home visit by a doctor that recommended and wrote a referral for a suspected blood clot in her leg. 😠 Possibly the worst care I have ever received. Small regional hospitals are capable of better service. The nurse I had was lovely, it’s a shame the rest of the department is a let down.
